The shipman slowed down his boat drastically as he perceived something odd in the horizon, something his instruments will not read. As he did, he gave the order to be allert to all employees under his command, they were all fishmen, but honorable ones.

Without hesitation, he grabbed her (as he checked it was a girl) and placed her inside his shirt where she'll be in skin contact and possibility of hypothermya will decrease.
