Prompt #67

“What is that?” Minseok asks, upper lip curling into a disgusted sneer.

Luhan could just barely make out the expression through the dimmed light of his computer screen. “It’s a cat,” he says excitedly, picking it up and setting it on his lap. The cat leans closer to the computer and sniffs around before settling into a comfortable ball on Luhan’s thighs.

“I know it’s a cat,” Minseok says, “But, why’d you get it?”

Luhan mindlessly pets between the kitty’s ears and sighs softly, “I’ve just been feeling a little lonely, what with us being so far apart and all. I thought a cat would keep me company.” He smiles down at his pet, readjusting into a better position, “And it, has a name.”

“Yeah, what’s it’s name?”

Luhan smiles proudly, “Baozi!”

Minseok pouts. “You don’t like it?” Luhan asks.

“That- that’s my name,” Minseok mumbles cutely, not looking at his screen.

“Aw,” Luhan giggles, “Is my Minseokkie jealous of a kitty cat?”

Minseok shrugs, “It’s not that… I just miss you.” He looks up now, into Luhan’s eyes on the screen, “Do you know the next time you’ll get to come to Korea?”

Luhan’s hand rests still on Baozi’s head and his shoulders slump, “I don’t know… not for a while probably.”

Minseok nods sadly and lets out a slow breath.

“I miss you too, a lot.”

Minseok hears a knock at the door and watches Luhan turn, telling whoever was there that he’d be out in a minute.

“I have to go,” Luhan says, turning back toward his computer, “Same time tomorrow?”

Minseok nods and attempts his best smile.

“I love you.”

“I love you too,” Minseok says.

Theres a pause, the same thing that happens every time, neither wanting to hang up just yet. 

“You know you’ll always be my Baozi, right?” 

Minseok nods and blinks quickly, trying to keep the welling tears from falling. “Have a good night, talk to you tomorrow.”

Luhan nods and smiles and the call ends.
