with a hard candy
MomentsCandy number one.
Green apple.
Jungkook stares at the hard candy in his hand.
“Thank you sunbae,” he had said to Jieun when she handed them out to each of her underclassmen in choir. At that time, he stashed it away and told himself that he would eat it later.
Now, Jungkook decides that it’s too precious—a candy from Jieun should be preserved. He knows he’s not special and everyone else got one, but it is the one thing connecting him to her; to the one he admires so much; to the one who melted his heart and made a meadow bloom in his stomach.
So he leaves it on his work desk, in front of a stuffed bear.
Candy number two.
Strawberry.
Jieun had given her choir underclassmen more candy. Jungkook’s heart flutters at the sight of the pink candy and its familiar transparent wrapper. He places it next to the first.
Candy number three.
Lychee.
Jungkook still can’t bring himself to eat any of the candy.
Candy number four.
Peach.
Jieun asks Jungkook why he never eats the candy like the other kids, and Jungkook says he is saving the treat for later. She smiles and says, “That says a lot about you!”
The words send his heart soaring and his cheeks turn pink like the candy in his hands. Jungkook decides that he doesn’t need to eat any candy anyways. Jieun is already sweet enough.
