Not A Disappointment
Plot TwistBoth Dara and Seunghyun sat at their table quietly waiting for their coffee to be served. They were both avoiding eye contact as they made sure to look everywhere but the person sitting across from them. After a while the waitress brought them their order and Dara noticed how the girl took more time to set down the coffee in front of Seunghyun compared to her. She also angled herself to face him when asking if they needed anything else. This gave Dara the assurance that she wasn’t alone in her embarrassing behaviors toward him.
“No, thank you.” Those three words were enough to cover the waitress in a deep blush, but Seunghyun was unaware as he simply picked up his mug. It should be impossible for him to not know the effect he had on people, but he didn’t.
“I think we should tell each other about ourselves since we’ll be um… seeing each other a lot now.” The statement was directed towards Dara, who just realized the waitress had left, in a slightly unstable manner, and now was left staring at him.
“Huh?” Seunghyun was beginning to wonder if Dara was deaf or just not interested in what he had to say at all.
“I said we should tell each other about ourselves…”
“Oh, yes you’re right. I’m sorry I’m just a little… distracted.”
“It’s fine. I can start.” Dara replied with a small nod.
“I’m Choi Seunghyun, I’m 30 years old and I work for an architecture firm in Gangnam.” At his last statement she raised her eyebrows in surprise.
“You work for an architecture firm?”
“Yes, why?” Seunghyun wondered if she didn’t believe him.
“Samchun told me you’re the CEO and co-founder.”
“Oh. Well technically I am but I like to think I work for it just like all the other employees.” Dara instantly liked Seunghyun a little bit more; he was humble and seemed genuine.
“You’re right. Well, I’m Sandara Park, but like I said earlier you can call me Dara. I’m 27 and I’m the head photographer of Vogue Magazine.” She smiled at the last part because of how proud she felt that her hard work paid off.
“That’s impressive.”
“Thank you, but it’s not as impressive as being the youngest CEO in the country.”
“You know about our company?” Seunghyun was a little surprised she knew that.
“Not really sorry. I was just asking Samchun about you before you came in.”
“What else did he tell you about me?” Seunghyun seemed a little more comfortable now since he sat back into his chair and didn’t seem as rigid.
“Not much, just about your job and that you’re pretty private about your personal life. Your partner is more of the face while you handle the business.” Dara also felt a little more at ease now that the conversation was flowing.
“Oh well I guess he’s right.”
“You don’t like having people know you? I would expect you to want the recognition for your hard work.”
“I mean recognition doesn’t always have to be through pictures on the news, I see it through satisfied clients. But I guess it’s because I’m not a celebrity or anything so it wouldn’t make sense for people to need to know my face.”
“Well they wouldn’t be disappointed in seeing you.” Dara froze as the last word left . She just implied he was cute to his face. And she thought she was doing so well without embarrassing herself. Seunghyun on the other hand, for the first time since they met had a small smile on his face.
“Well, thank you.” Dara quickly picked up her coffee and took a sip. There was another moment of awkward silence until Seunghyun picked up the conversation.
“Well how about you? Being the head photographer at 27 doesn’t sound like it was easy.” She was thankful for the change of topic. As Dara cleared to answer, Seunghyun took note of the light pink blush on her cheeks. He couldn’t help but find it cute.
“It wasn’t. I started as an intern in my first year of college and ever since I’ve been working. I was actually just promoted this year.”
“How is it?”
“So much work, but so much fun as well.” Seunghyun couldn’t help but notice how her eyes lit up when talking about work.
“Are the models easy to work with? The ones I’ve met weren’t very pleasant.”
“Uh, I guess they’d range from being really fun and easy going to stuck up and crazy. How did you meet models?”
“I have to meet some of the models that advertise our company and I’ll just say it’s not my favorite part of the job.” Dara laughed at his comment. She’s had her fair share of annoying models too.
“Well I guess it’s better now since not many models want to mess with the head photographer.” Dara gave Seunghyun a cheeky smile, to which Seunghyun responded with a soft smile.
“That’s true.” The conversation faltered once again but this time it wasn’t as uncomfortable.
“Oh, you said you wanted to talk about our living situation…” That phrase itself sounded funny to Dara since neither of them could straight out say that they were “married.”
“Yes, I was thinking that you could stay at my place since I live alone and I have an extra room.” Seunghyun was sure to mention that he had an extra room because he didn’t want her to think that he was a creep.
“I guess that would be a good idea since I live with my family. Are you sure you’re okay with me staying at your place though, I don’t want to invade or anything.”
“No, it’s okay I don’t mind. When do you think you could move in?”
“I think, this Saturday would be fine. Unless, that’s too quick for you?”
“No, Saturday is fine.”
“Alright, then.”
“Well, then I guess since that’s set I should go. I have some work left to do.” Seunghyun began to stand up, and Dara followed.
“Sure, me too. Thank you for the coffee.” Seunghyun didn’t let her pay.
“No problem.” Seunghyun was about to walk away when he turned around again.
“If you have any questions or anything you can just call me.” Dara nodded in response and gave him a small bow as he turned around to leave.
