And so they did.

Jiyong took Chaerin's hand in his and sprinted as if the devil was upon him. He and Chaerin desperately clawed to get over the ornate gate. They succeeded but not without wasting valuable time. By the time they hit the wide open pasture Jiyong's men were either climbing or at the top of the gate ready to jump down. They were hungry for revenge and saw Jiyong as a traitor.

Without thinking Jiyong allowed his feet to guide him. He continued to hold onto Chaerin as he jumped off the cliff and slid down to the crevice which served as the opening of the cave. Once inside he tried to regain his breath as the sounds of men running towards him pounded in his head.

"What are we going to do?" Chaerin cried pacing around the cave

"We can't run, we can't hide now that they've seen us and we can't escape. We're trapped." she said hopelessly.

Trapped. Trapped. The word rang in Jiyong's head until it sparked an idea. Without uttering his thoughts out loud Jiyong began throwing himself upon the walls of the cave. He thrashed and used all his strength to attack the foundations around him. Chaerin looked at him in wide eyed horror

"Stop! What are you doing!? You'll kill yourself!"

Jiyong continued to pick apart the cave. He reached for the stones that held the shabby place together and watched as the foundations started to shake. He heard the steps of his men approaching. It was as if they were getting louder and louder and as if they were already there.

In desperation Jiyong began kicking at the walls while using his hands to claw away the stones that supported the cave.

Finally.

After one particular movement the cave began to shake and rattle. It shook as if the world were ending. And then it began to fall. Slowly then all together the cave began to collapse on itself.

Jiyong reached out for Chaerin, wrapped her in his embrace, shut his eyes, and whispered a silent prayer as they sat under the crumbling mass.

Minutes later Jiyong could hear the muffled shouts and ravings of  his men  from the outside, but he realized they couldn't get in. The cave had fallen upon itself subsequently closing the crevice that served as the opening. But more importantly it had buried those who lay within alive. Chaerin had slowly realized this.

"Jiyong.." She started to cry "What are we going to do? We're trapped" she whispered in the darkness. The remnants of the cave left no room for light and she and Jiyong were under the weight of some of the fallen stones.

"We're going to die here. No one is going to hear us or see us or ever find us again." She looked up from his embrace and noted that he was smiling.

"Chaerin don't you see? We're free. Nobody can reach us here. We may not have long but here we can be together." Jiyong whispered. His eyes took on that hazy appearance as he continued to speak

"I can kiss you all I want down here. We can talk all we want. Nobody will hurt us." He continued while slowly leaving kisses over Chaerin's face. His hands reached to stoke her back and console her in the dark.

"I see." Chaerin said slowly, finally seeing Jiyong's side. "It was the only way oppa..." Tears spilled from her eyes as she returned Jiyong's kisses

"We're finally together again."

As the last bits of oxygen dissipated from the cave and eluded the two, Chaerin and Jiyong used their last breaths to whisper their final love yous in the midst of the darkness in the cold, shattered cave.
