Personality. 

Jihun has a special outlook on life. He sees life as one big complex puzzle where everything is connected. He sees life through a prism of emotions and is always looking for a deeper meaning. Really all he wants in life is to maintain his happiness and freedom and to avoid missing out on exciting opportunities.
He´s the definition of a free-spirit and a lot of people would describe him as the life of the party. However where a lot of other people are most interested in the excitement and pleasure of the moment they are in, Jihun is more interested in enjoying the social and emotional connections he makes with others. He´s constantly seeking new and exciting experiences and is very impulsive. He does things without really thinking about the consequences they might have. 
Jihun is extremely curious. Instead of sitting around and brooding he would much rather go out and experience new things. He isn´t afraid to step outside of his comfort zone, especially not if it means learning something new. He approaches life much like a kid in a candy store and isn´t afraid to ask if there´s something he wants to know. 
He´s also imaginative and he comes up with many ideas. His mind moves quickly from one idea to the next and he is therefore very good at brainstorming. This also means he´s very spontaneous and has a lot trouble focusing on one thing, but more on that later. Tying into being curious, Jihun is also very observant. He believes there are no irrelevant actions and everything is part of something bigger. In order to sate his curiosity Jihun tries to notice everything that goes on around him. As Jihun observes what goes on around him and forms new ideas, he is not the type to keep quiet about it. He gets excited about these ideas and feels that he has to share them with anyone willing to listen. This also means that he sometimes blurts out the most random stuff, which has absolutely nothing to do with what´s going on around him. This perpetual enthusiasm brings with it two good things. It´s a way for Jihun to make more social connections as well as a way to gain even more information, as his random outbursts often lead to discussions and in that way new opinions that he can then work into his existing ideas. Jihun is a good communicator and has strong people skills. This is quite a good thing because if he wasn´t he would never tell anyone about his ideas, and they´d stay nothing but ideas. Because while Jihun is good at coming up with ideas and starting projects, his ability to keep up with and follow through with these struggle. Without some more hands on people to push forward the day to day things, Jihun´s ideas would remain nothing but ideas. 
He enjoys both small talk as well as deeper more intellectual and meaningful conversations. To Jihun they´re two sides of the same coin and this adaptability leads him to being very approachable. He gets along with almost everyone. Jihun approaches life with a constant optimism. He´s upbeat and fun to be around. He has a desire to fully participate in life and he doesn´t take himself or anyone else too seriously. He´s joyful and happy 99% of the time, much to the dismay of some other people. Because being around someone who´s as upbeat and cheerful as Jihun can get tiring in the long run. But to others his natural enthusiasm and happiness is a gift and remind them of the pure pleasure of existence. Because Jihun can find something good in every situation and he always tries to keep others happy and cheerful as well. 
Jihun is also childish. As mentioned he approaches life much like a kid in a candy store ande looks at the world with fascination and anticipation. However this is not why Jihun is childish. Jihun is the biggest scaredy-cat you will ever find. He gets scared of basically everything and when he´s scared he whines. He also likes getting his way and whines if he doesn´t. He pouts a lot and because Jihun is naturally adorable with his eye smile and dimples, this often leads people to take pity on him and go with whatever he wants to do, if anything just so he´ll stop whining. He has a lot of aegyo (Ugh I hate that word) and has no qualms about using it to get what he wants. 
Jihun is energetic and has trouble sitting still. He always has to be doing something, much to the annoyance of everyone around him. When he´s forced to sit down for extended periods of time he often bounces his legs or taps his fingers or fiddles with something. This also ties into him being easily excitable, because when he´s excited about something he gets even more energetic and talks about it or immediately starts it, if it´s a project. This also ties in to him spontaneous. He can´t stay in the same place for very long, whether that´s the same city or just the same spot in a house. He has to move around and Jihun adores exploring and adventuring. Jihun does things without thinking about the consequences and if he gets an idea he sets it into motion, no matter what he might have been doing beforehand. He´s impulsive and doing things excites him. He takes pleasure in being spontaneous. He does things unplanned. If he suddenly got the urge to move to Australia he would. Or start an education in art. Or literature. Or anything. He has a lot of options open to him at all times because of his ideas and he often works by a trial and error method. He wants to try everything to find out what´s best. If for example he is unable to decide whether he wants chocolate, vanilla or strawberry ice cream Jihun choses all three so he doesn´t miss out on the right one. Jihun wants to experience as much in his lifetime as possible and this requires sometimes making rash and unplanned decisions. 
Because of his spontaneity and how many ideas he comes up with, Jihun often times has trouble focusing on one singular task. He has trouble maintaining interest if something becomes a routine. He´s a natural explorer and this backfires big time when the thing in front of him that needs to be done is paperwork, anything related administrative matters or stray away from broader concepts. 
Jihun is prone to stress. Especially because of how friendly and open he is. This leads people to come to him for guidance and help and he gets over overwhelmed by this very easily when he cannot say yes to every request. But also because he always has a lot of balls in the air that he has to juggle around. This comes from his overactive imagination and idea-making and his tendency to start projects. Especially all the projects he has abandoned bother Jihun as he feels he should go back and finish at least some of them, but knows he´s unable to as he´s lost interest. 
Jihun is clumsy. There´s no other way to put it. He could fall over nothing. This is because he´s often consumed by thought and is too busy observing other people and wondering about them to watch where he steps or what he´s doing. This leads to him falling on his face or walking into people or things very often. In fact he walked straight into a lamp-post once because he was busy watching another person on the other side of the road. He´s also walked into multiple glass-doors. He also drops stuff often. Do not let this boy in the kitchen because he will either cut or burn himself or someone else. Or just the food if you´re really lucky. 
All in all Jihun is kind of a mess. He has a lot of projects that he has never finished and he´s so clumsy that he´s a danger to himself and the people around him. He might physically be a 24 year old man, but really he´s more like a 15 year old boy. Everything around him is always a mess. He leaves clothes strewn on the floor and forgets to clean it, he can´t cook… He has no control over his own limbs and breaks more things than what is humanly possible. One day he will definitely end up in the hospital because he hurt himself in some weird way. He´s scared of literally everything except heights and screams and whines and pouts when he gets scared. Do not let this kid watch a horror movie. He will cry from how scared he is. In fact he often cries when he gets scared.

Background.

Im Jihun was born on the 12th of March 1995 in Anseong City, Gyeonggi province of South Korea to Im Chaewon and Im Seojun. They were only in Anseong on a small visit as Jihun´s father worked at the Korean embassy in Fiji. At the time of his birth, Jihun was an only child, but that changed when Jihun was just 11 months because at this point his little sister Im Jieun was born. Jihun grew up with music. His mother played both the piano and acoustic guitar and his father both drums and bass. This lead Jihun to grow up very interested in music and at 6 he started both piano and violin lessons. He loved both and continued these lessons. At 10 he also took up drumming lessons, having started learning from his father back when he was 8.

When he was 13 the family relocated back to Anseong City and Jihun enrolled in Anseong Middle School. Throughout middle and high school Jihun was always the odd one. He was a very hyper and energetic kid which meant he was often a little much for the other kids to handle. Luckily he always had his sister right next to him and they spent most of their time together when they were younger. In middle school they spent most of their time in the music room, playing the different instruments. His sister had taken up guitar after their mother as well as playing the flute so they had a lot of fun. In 2008 at the age of 15 Jihun graduated from Anseong middle school and during his summer break, Jihun watched a lot of movies. And he was entranced and fascinated by the way sound was used in some of these movies and how different sounds or the lack of any sound could completely change the atmosphere of a certain scene. So when Jihun enrolled in Anseong high school after his break, he immediately chose audio production as one of his electives. Here he met a lot of young people who had the same interest in audio and film as him and he was no longer as much of an outsider. Of course he maintained a close relationship with his sister and would often drag her with him to stay in the rooms they used when they had their audio production classes. Here he would spend his breaks with the other students who had chosen audio production and his sister and Jihun learnt a lot through these classes. He knew that audio production was what he wanted to do, and researched liberally what jobs you could get in the field of audio work. Here he discovered sound design/sound editing and immediately Jihun knew this was what he wanted to do. However Jihun also wanted to use his skills at music to something and halfway through high school Jihun started playing around with music production as well as sound design. He graduated from Anseong high school in 2013 at the age of 18 and immediately enrolled in Dong-ah Institute of Media and Arts (DIMA), majoring in audio production. 3 years after, in 2016 Jihun was graduated and ready to start his life as a sound designer. However this proved to be a very hard business to break through in. Luckily Jihun had some practiced with sound design as well as music production by playing around while he was in high school and from his schooling at DIMA, where they took classes on sound editing, audio design and trained in studio recording and the like. This made it a little easier for Jihun, but as he worked freelance it still wasn´t easy. In fact he lived in the tiest apartment and ate basically nothing but convenient store ramen for almost a year, taking whatever small ty sound design and music production jobs he could get. But Jihun wasn´t happy. He wanted to work with music and so he decided to take a leap of faith. He wasn´t going to quit his job but he was going to start working with music as well. And his way of doing this was to start training to maybe become an idol. He decided on doing the training stuff individually as he figured he was probably a little old for a company to want to take him in. He had a past in music working with beats and due to this past in music, Jihun was a fairly quick study. However this also meant his life got even more hectic. Because he still had bills and still needed to do his work. In general Jihun lives a chaotic life because he works freelance. This means that he can never be sure when he´ll be hired and when he gets hired he works crazy hours, often working for 12 hours straight if not more. In fact he usually ends up falling asleep while working. When he has work Jihun has no time to do anything but work which means he barely gets any sleep, doesn´t work out and barely has time to eat. His meals usually consist of delivery as he absolutely can´t cook and even if he could, he wouldn´t have time. Despite this hectic life that his job forces him to live, Jihun wouldn´t trade it for anything. He loves his job. When Jihun doesn´t have work, he lives a pretty quiet life, spending most of his time playing around with… you guessed it. Sound design as well as music production and composing. He also plays both the piano, the violin and the drums whenever he can find the time. This kid lives and breathes audio, sound and music. Literally it´s both his hobby and his job.
And then he heard about International Idol from a friend and that they were holding audition. And he figured why not give it a shot?

Relationships. 

Sister / Im Jieun / 24 / Music therapist /  Supportive, laid-back, grounded / Jihun and his sister share most of their interests. As they both grew up with music the two share a deep love for music and its´something they bond over and talk about a lot. They tell eachother everything, but they also fight and bicker like siblings normally do. Jieun is more laid back than Jihun and as such she´s good at keeping him grounded and pulling his head out of the clouds when he gets a little too caught up in his ideas.

Fellow contestant / Baek Daehyeon / 24 / Trainee / See app (I´m lazy) / Dee isn´t the biggest fan of Jihun. Her constant cheerfulness bugs her as does his natural cuteness and aegyo. Jihun on the other hand finds Dee to be a stubborn and intolerant that he´d rather be without. And so the two of them generally just don´t talk. They aren´t enemies but they´re also not friends.

Trainee Life.
Training hasn´t been easy for Jihun. He´s an independent trainee but he´s also an adult man with a job and bills to pay. So he´s had to balance his training with his job which has been extraordinarily hard for him. The past year he´s been focusing more on training and less on his sound design job. He´s primarily been focused on his singing, however he´s also an okay rapper and an okay dancer as well. Not great but also not bad. 

Hello! Could you please introduce yourself? 

Hi! I´m Jihun! I´m 23, a freelance sound designer and an independent trainee!

Why did you decide to audition for International Idol? 

I´ve always very much liked music. I have a degree in audio production and through my work as a freelance sound designer I discovered that music was really what I wanted to do. But I was too old to start as a trainee so I started training independently and when I found out International Idol would be doing a second season I figured it was my way in.

What was your audition song? 

I chose to audition with a cover of Lie Lie Lie originally by Lee Juck!

What do you believe sets you apart from the other contestants? 

I have a career outside of this whole thing. I have a degree in audio production and that definitely gives me an egde over most of the other contestants. I know the theory behind music production, studio recording, mixing, mastering and vocal production.

What skill or skills are you most confident in?

Vocal. Also generally my skills within audio production.

If given the chance, what skill would you like to show off and if that skill wasn't available for whatever reason, what other skill would you pick? 

My music production skills would be a dream to get to show off!

What concepts do you prefer and what ones don't you like?  

I wouldn´t do well with darker concepts I don´t think. Either something more melancholic that suits my darker vocal tone or... I mean my looks are definitely more fitted towards a cuter concept but I really don´t think my voice would fit that well?

If you were in a group with a concept you didn't like and were given the chance to switch to one with a concept that suits you better, would you switch or stay with your group? 

I´d definitely switch!

What amount of members do you think the winning group should have?

And I feel like that´s really fitting for Jihun. He brings joy and happiness and his personality is just... Jihun is one of my favorite characters I´ve ever created though so I really hope you like him as well.
