Personality. 

Hyuntae enjoys taking on challenges. He´s charismatic and has the physical and psychological capacities to persuade others to follow him into all kinds of endeavors—from starting a company, to rebuilding a city, to running a household, to waging war, to making peace. He has enormous willpower and vitality, and he feels most alive when he´s exercising these capacities in the world. He uses his abundant energy to effect changes in his environment—to “leave his mark" on it—but also to keep the environment, and especially other people, from hurting him and those he cares about. Hyuntae doesn´t want to be controlled or to allow others to have power over him, whether the power is psychological, ual, social, or financial. Much of his behavior is involved with making sure that he retains and increases whatever power they have for as long as possible. Being “in charge” and leaving his imprint on his sphere is a characteristic of Hyuntae. He would rather lead and be in control, than be led and controlled. He´s the master of his own fate, and will not take anything sitting down. He instinctively takes charge of situations, and controls his environment. His preference is to make an impact rather than take on a passive role. The result is that he gets things done. He denies his weaknesses and maintains his self-image of being a strong person who’s in command of his life. He´s honorable and authoritative— a natural leader who has a solid, commanding presence. When he´s decided that you can be trusted, he will include you in his inner circle, and you can expect a steady and loyal friend and partner. He´s generous to those under his care, and you can count on him to defend you when needed. His groundedness gives him abundant “common sense” as well as the ability to be decisive. He´s willing to “take the heat,” knowing that any decision cannot please everyone. But as much as possible, he wants to look after the interests of people without playing favorites.
Hyuntae´s extraordinarily tough and can absorb a great deal of physical punishment without complaint—a double-edged blessing since he often takes his health and stamina for granted and overlooks the health and well-being of others as well. Yet he´s desperately afraid of being hurt emotionally and uses his physical strength to protect his feelings and keep others at a safe emotional distance. Beneath the tough façade is vulnerability, although it has been covered over by a layer of emotional armor. Beneath his imposing exterior, Hyuntae often feels hurt and rejected, although this is something he seldom talks about because he has trouble admitting his vulnerability to himself, let alone to anyone else. Because he fears that he will be rejected he attempts to defend himself by rejecting others first. The result is that Hyuntae has become blocked in his ability to connect with people or to love since love gives the other power over him. This attitude makes it difficult for him to open up in relationships where lowering defenses is required in order to be intimate. Thus, Hyuntae is extremely industrious, but at the price of losing emotional contact with many of the people in his life. Those close to him may become increasingly dissatisfied with this state of affairs, which confounds Hyuntae. Hyuntae has powerful protective instincts and a quick temper. He can easily be provoked into a rage. He can be brutal and dangerous. So be careful what you say to him.
Hyuntae is a true rugged individualist. He stands alone. He wants to be independent, and resists being indebted to anyone. He refuses to “give in” to social convention, and he can defy fear, shame, and concern about the consequences of his actions. Although he is aware of what people think of him, he does not let the opinions of others sway him. He goes about his business with a steely determination that can be awe-inspiring to some and intimidating to others.

Background.

Beom Hyuntae (Born Hayden) was born on  February 14th 1997 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada to a French-Canadian father and a Korean mother. He grew up trilingual with his father speaking both French and English with him and his mother speaking Korean with him.
Growing up Hyuntae quickly discovered that he had a way with languages and that he actually very much enjoyed learning them. He also took both piano, guitar, bass and vocal classes throughout his childhood and teen years. His childhood was quite average. He did decently in school, excelling in his language classes as well as his musical extracurriculars.
In the summer break of 2013 his parents took the then 16 year old to South Korea for the first time. They felt it was time he got to know the country and the culture. Here he was exposed to a lot of Korean pop music and he imediately fell in love with the videos, the songs and the general vibe of Korea. Until then he had always thought he´d end up becoming an interpretor or something. But this was when he made up his mind. He wanted to do music. Specifically in Korea. He talked to his parents about it upon their return to Canada and started auditioning to the big companies. JYP, SM, YG... But it would take him two years to be accepted as a trainee. When he finally was accepted it was at Brand New Music. And so he became a trainee at Brand New Music in 2015 where he was immediately placed into a training group with 3 other people. 3 women. Baek Daehyeon, Gae Hyun-Mi and Kyung Jisuk. They were to become a project group known as D:fy as they defied the norms of what your average kpop idol was supposed to look like. They were strong, they were independent and they didn´t take from anyone. However, when Produce 101 Season 2 happened and Brand New Music decided to send four male trainees and then to debut their duo MXM in 2017 and there was no news of D:fy going anywhere Hyuntae and Daehyeon made a decision. If they wanted to debut they had to take their future in their own hands and so the two of them left Brand New Music, leaving behind Hyunmi and Jisuk. The two decided that they would train of their own and wait for their chance. And then International Idol Season 2 happened and the two decided that this was their chance.

Relationships. 

Friend and fellow contestant / Baek Daehyeon / 24 / Trainee / See app (I´m lazy) / Hyun and Dee met when they were both trainees at Brand New Music. Here they were placed into a group with two others (OC´s - Kyung Jisuk and Gae Hyun-Mi) and the four of them formed a training group that would go on to be known as D:fy as the four of them were drastically different from your normal idols. Daehyeon and Hyun left Brand New Music and decided to train on their own helping eachother and since the two have developed a very, very close relationship. Dee is basically Hyuntae´s mother at this point and he tells her everything. She´s his rock. However their relationship also has their downs. Dee is just as outspoken and dominant as Hyuntae is and this often causes arguments between the two when they can´t agree on how to do things. He also never uses honorifics with her and she just about beats him every time.

Former trainee group member / Gae Hyun-mi / 24 / Trainee at Brand New Music / Determined, blunt, mature, sarcasic, outspoken, insensitive, at times a little violent / Hyunmi and Hyuntae were the not very close during their time as D:fy. Their personalities clash quite a bit and because of this the two never really got close. 

Former trainee group member / Kyung Jisuk / 22 / Trainee at Brand New Music / Distrustful, loner, stubborn / Jisuk and Hyuntae were actually fairly close despite Jisuk´s distrustful personality. Perhaps this is because the two are almost the same age and so Jisuk felt secure around Hyuntae. The two still talk to this day but they don´t see eachother much and Jisuk feels like Hyuntae has abandoned her at Brand New Music.

Fellow contestant / Akihito Kobayashi / 26 / Trainee / See app / Hyuntae and Akihito can form a powerful and highly effective affiliation. Both are assertive and go after what they want in life. They are both larger-than-life figures who are outstanding in some way. They both have a marked degree of self-confidence (at least outwardly), they can be persuasive, and they can cut their losses and change goals when things are not working for them. They cannot help but notice each other and come to terms with each other. Either an alliance will form that will enhance both of them or a competition develops that will keep them apart (That´s up to you).

Fellow contestant / Im Jihun / 23 / Trainee / See app / Both Jihun and Hyuntae are highly self-assertive, independent, and strong willed. They also resist being controlled or limited by authorities or even by internal, psychological mechanisms. Once someone (or even some inner voice) says do not, they both respond with defiance and a desire to push the limits, whatever they may be. Both are practical, this world-oriented, not necessarily worldly or materialistic, but concerned with concrete affairs and finding happiness and fulfillment in the here and now. Trainee Life.

Hello! Could you please introduce yourself? 

I´m Hayden or Hyuntae. I´m 21, an individual trainee and also a former member of Brand New Msuic´s project group D:fy.

Why did you decide to audition for International Idol? 

Dee and myself decided that this was going to be our chance at debut. When we were part of D:fy we were basically promised a debut but then Produce 101 Season 2 happened and MXM happened and we were left in the dust like... Like fools. So now we´re here.

What was your audition song? 

An acoustic version of Way Back Home.

What do you believe sets you apart from the other contestants? 

I defy the norms of what your average kpop idol is supposed to look like. I´m strong, I´m independent and I don´t take sh*t from anyone.

What skill or skills are you most confident in?

My vocals

If given the chance, what skill would you like to show off and if that skill wasn't available for whatever reason, what other skill would you pick? 

My language skills. I speak 3 languages fluently, know ASL and LSQ and I´m advanced in Japanese and conversational in Greek.

What concepts do you prefer and what ones don't you like?  

Pretty boys do bad things. Or I guess I should say pretty people do bad things.

If you were in a group with a concept you didn't like and were given the chance to switch to one with a concept that suits you better, would you switch or stay with your group?
