Personality. 

Cheerful and optimistic : Rachel is someone who seemingly does not let anything get her down and is always laughing and smiling. When interacting with others, she'll try her best to remain enthusiastic. She always tries to look for the silver lining in any cloud and if she can't find it, she'll keep trying. She tries to keep a positive outlook on life because she believes there are so many ways things could go right, or things that don't go well can end up being in her favour. And even if things don't go the way she planned, she believes it would be better if she didn't get what she wanted.

Friendly and talkative : Rachel loves getting to know others and she believes the best way to do so is by talking to them, about anything under the sun. However, Rachel has a tendency to talk too much at times, sometimes when it is unwelcomed. Sometimes, she also says the wrong things, and usually at the wrong times.

Creative : Rachel can seemingly come up with any poems or drawings on the spot, and she loves making them up.

Zealous : Rachel believes that if you truly love something, you should put as much effort as you can into it, and going with this, she puts all her effort into performing, making sure she gets everything perfect and has memorised it by heart before she goes for evaluations.

Sensitive : Rachel is easily hurt by harsh words or others' suffering. She doesn't understand why people would want to hurt others, whether intentionally or unintentionally, and feels that even if you wish to criticise someone in order to correct them, you should tell them so patiently rather than lashing out and using harsh words.

Validation-seeking : If people don't praise Rachel, she feels that she had not done well or is unloved. She often says things like "oh dear, I didn't do so well this time" hoping others will assure her she did her best. She tries her best to help others or stay on their good side, because she wants people to like her.

Naive : Rachel tends to believe she can do anything if she believes in herself and works hard. She knows that wanting something alone doesn't necessarily mean you will get it, and hard work is not a sure way to success, but she still believes she can do anything if only she tries.

Cowardly : Rachel knows that because she is a celebrity's sister, one mistake can ruin her sister's reputation, so she often keeps her true opinions and feelings to herself. If she accidentally expressed an opinion others do not agree with, she will just agree to disagree for fear of ruining her relationship with the person / people. She generally avoids doing things she deems reckless.

Easygoing, sometimes to the extent of being indecisive : Going along with Rachel not wanting to cause conflicts, so for the sake of preventing them, she just goes along with what everyone agrees with. However, because of this, she sometimes has trouble making decisions on important things.

Playful : Rachel is always up to have a good time no matter what your idea of a good time is (as long as no wild partying), and she believes in having as much fun as you can whenever you can, because you only live once.

Protective : Rachel greatly cherishes those she loves. If someone tries to badmouth someone she's close to, she will defend them with her life and attack them mercilessly.

Kind and selfless : Rachel tries to avoid hurting others, instead uplifting them wherever possible. She never fails to give her loved ones or people she finds cool words of encouragement when needed, even if she can't say much. She tries her best to show genuine love to everyone around her, even sacrificing herself to make them happy.

Background.

Rachel was born in 1990 to an upper class family, and she was the youngest of three children. During her childhood and teenage years, Rachel went to the same school as her elder sister, Rebecca, and they became very close. Rachel, wanting to be like her elder sister, ended up going into the hobbies Rebecca took up, especially playing the piano and working out. When Rachel was 15 years old, Rebecca became the fourth runner up in the Miss Singapore Universe pageant, which further spurred Rachel to work towards a career in the entertainment industry.

When Rachel was in university, many of her schoolmates were into anime, and she started watching several anime series herself and going to cosplay conventions with her friends. She later started performing at cosplay conventions and other Japanese subculture street festivals when she was 21. After graduating from university, Rachel went on a graduation trip to Korea and was scouted by Unite Media, and was chosen to participate on their second season of International Idol in 2018.

Friend / Tanaka Mina / 19 / U/Idol Member / cheerful, sweet, most of it is in her app tbh I'm lazy / Rachel and Mina became friends when they were trainees. They train seperately now, but hang out during practise breaks and keep in touch via text messaging. They're very close and Rachel loves Mina because the younger girl reminds her so much of Rebecca.

Trainee Life.
Becoming a trainee was a big change from Rachel's sheltered life in Singapore. Back then, she would sleep as late as she wanted if she had nothing to do and do whatever she wanted, but as a trainee she had strict schedules to follow. Also, the language barrier between her and the other trainees meant that she did not have many trainee friends for a while. However, there was one thing that kept her going, which was Rebecca. Her elder sister made it a point to send her a good morning text no matter how busy she was, and some words of encouragement, as well as catch up with her when she was free. This spurred Rachel to work hard to fulfil her dream. Although Rachel was not chosen to participate in the first season of International Idol, she decided to work harder, and was chosen to participate on Season 2.

Hello! Could you please introduce yourself? 

Hello everyone! My name is Rachel Lim and I have been a Unite Media trainee for 5 years.

Why did you decide to audition for International Idol? 

Since I was young, I had been inspired by my sister Rebecca to be a star and follow my dreams.

What was your audition song? 

I auditioned with a cover of Lemon by Kenshi Yonezu. (ignore the guy)

What do you believe sets you apart from the other contestants? 

I think I'm the same as them. I don't think myself to be more special than them. Just because I'm Rebecca Lim's sister doesn't mean I'm any different from other trainees. We all worked hard to get here.

What skill or skills are you most confident in?

Dancing and singing!

If given the chance, what skill would you like to show off and if that skill wasn't available for whatever reason, what other skill would you pick? 

I would like to show off my singing, but if I couldn't, then dancing.

What concepts do you prefer and what ones don't you like?  

I'm good with all concepts! Most people think I suit y concepts but I really like doing cute concepts too.

If you were in a group with a concept you didn't like and were given the chance to switch to one with a concept that suits you better, would you switch or stay with your group? 

I would stay. I’m a pretty adaptable person.

What amount of members do you think the winning group should have?

Ten to twelve would be good. I feel that's a good number to form units with different concepts without being too large and confusing to manage.

If you won, how do you think you would react?

Of course I would be very happy!

And on the other side of that, if you lost, how do you think you would react?

I would be upset, but it just means I have the chance to work harder next time.

Lastly, is there anything you would like to say to your mentors, other contestants or the audience?
