Okay, so I am shamelessly posting this here because my business is important to me.

As some of you may know, my real life occupation is a Chef. And I co-own a Coffee Shop and Bakery Cafe with my mother, and our friend Alicia. This started last year, which is particularly why the updates on my stories are limited to every few months now. Because I'm literally working 75+ hours every week being the Head Chef and Operations Manager of Motor City Java & Tea House. My mother and I came into ownership with our friend, whose previous business was closing, and she asked us if we would be interested in helping her keep the doors to the shop open in return for a percentage of partnership. Since her business was going to close its doors by Nov. 1st 2013, my mother and I both said "we can't let that happen", and so we switched into gear and started doing everything we could to restructure the company, start a new LLC and start making that shop successful. Thus, all three of us are 33.33% owners. 

It's kind of a big deal for me, since last summer, I turned 21 and had this vision of what I was going to do with my life and I partied almost every night that summer and I would travel and do what I wanted to do and I had a car...And then suddenly, a business was dropped into my 21 year old lap. And responsibilities took place. And I woke up at 5am every day and worked until well after dark. And things changed a whole lot quicker than I expected them to. And now there's no going back to being a child. I am Maegan. I am a woman. An adult, and a business owner, and some people actually look up to me now and if I don't do my job right, then other people are affected by it.

Yeah. It's a big deal with a lot of pressure.

Which is where YOU guys come in. MCJ&T has been nominated to win a "peoples' choice" grant from NEIdeas, which gives $10,000 to 30 different small businesses within the Detroit Metropolitan Area every year. So yeah, I just need to get as many people as I can to vote for the business because we could really use the money to fix a lot of the things in the shop (i.e. equipment, leaking ceilings, plumbing) and it would help out immensely if I could get the equipment I need to unveil the new menu I've been working on for the last nine months and start making this profitless business make some money because I am honestly quite sick of working seven days a week with no paycheck.

And may I please show my respect to anyone reading this who works in customer service, especially the food industry? Because I hadn't realized it before, but human beings are freaking NASTY towards the people waiting their tables, and making their coffees, and lunch orders. So yeah, you all have my love and respect. And if you're reading this and you DON'T work in the food industry...Take this as just a little reminder to be kind to people who are handling your food. We go through a lot of to get your order right.
