character history

Aleydis is half Dutch from her father's side, Izaak, and Chinese from her mother's side, Tineke (birthname: Wei Yuyan). She doesn't know any Chinese because her mother wanted to assimilate into the Dutch culture better and so thought it would be better for Aleydis to be that way. Of course her mother still taught her some of the ways of Chinese culture even if she doesn't speak the language. Anyways, she comes from somewhat of a noble background due to her father, and to her because of her mother, she doesn't see herself as such. It is due to the fact that her father's  mother, Klazina, didn't accept her mother as part of the family, but treated Aleydis with love and care.

Her father actually had two wives at the time when Aleydis was growing up. Her mother, and another lady, Marike, that his mother had him engaged to. Because he felt no love for Marike, the two never slept with one another, and so this resorted in her father in falling in love with her mother. They married, but her mother is consider as a 'lower wife' compare to Marike despite Tineke giving birth to his only child at the time, her, Aleydis.

Anyways, despite her father's protest, her grandmother still belittled her mother no matter even if he was present or not and wasn't ashame to show her disgust and disapproval either. The grandfather, Jeroen, just let his wife did whatever because she was hardheaded, but he himself didn't have much strength to do anything and is why her father was busy majority of the time. As for Marike, she always joined in with Klazina in putting down Tineke at every chance they got. In the end though, Tineke endured it because of her love for Izaak and because of Aleydis.

By the time Aleydis grew older to the age of fourteen, she cast away her happy, joyous life and personality so that she could protect her mother from Klazina and Marike. She came to dislike her grandmother and Marike more and more, and always defended her mother from their attacks despite Tineke telling Aleydis to just let it go. Klazina then started belitting Aleydis and treating her like a piece of dirt as well. Marike did the same, but only when Klazina was there as Marike fear that Aleydis may do something since she wasn't like Tineke. Around this time her grandfather's health bedridden him and either she or her mother were the ones that usually tended to him. When her grandfather finally passed away, a will was left and it named Tineke and Aleydis with part of the fortune. It was more than what Marike and even Klazina had a part of that too.

This caused an even bigger rift between Klazina, Marike, and her mother and her. Klazina and Marike started abusing them physically when Izaak wasn't around. Although he was just too tired and busy to notice anything since now he had fully taken over his father's business. It went on for two years when Aleydis turned sixteen and then her grandmother had a . Despite all that she put them through, Tineke and Aleydis tended to her while Marike went about her life doing whatever she pleased. At first her grandmother rejected the idea but in the end her mother and herself still took care of her even if she was a stubborn old lady.

Eventually, Klazina became well and began to see them in a whole new light and finally learned to accept them and became nicer. Marike was confuse and started to bicker, but Klazina would hush her up instead and began to criticize her instead. Eventually this led Marike to darker thoughts and to do something even more cruel to do. One day Marike and Klazina were arguing one day and Marike got so fed up, she ended up stabbing Klazina. Tineke at this time came to check what the argument was about and saw the incident with Marike holding the knife and Klazina on the floor bleeding. As Tineke came over to check the situation, Marike put the knife in Tineke's hands and backed away. This was when her father appeared and herself and they were both shock. Marike then began to sprout lies that Tineke was the one that did it and she just came to check what was going on. Tineke didn't say anything and stayed silent. This changed everything for Aleydis in her father's eyes.

Her mother was taken away by authorities and her father despised her mother and even began treating his own daughter differently since then. Because all he could see in her was her mother. He couldn't forgive her mother for what she did. Marike continued on with that lie and began to live freely once more, but she let it slipped to Aleydis. After that Aleydis been trying to tell her father that her mother was innocent and that it was Marike all along, but Marike denied and would tell Izaak how could she do it when her and Klazina always got along and that Klazina always hated Tineke. Izaak just believed her and dismissed his daughter. From then on, she was forgotten and was reminded as the "murderer's daughter' by Marike for three years.

Within those three years, Aleydis went from being the daughter into being treated like that of a servant. Her father and Marike even began to get along and live like an actual married couple and they greeted into the world her half-brother, Willem. Within those three years, Aleydis just gave up in believing that her father would ever believed her or her mother again. That Marike will always get away with murder, and that her half-brother Willem would grow up in such a family without ever knowing the real truth. It didn't help when she found out that her mother died while in prison due to some health reason and was unable to even do a proper burial for her. Aleydis honestly figured she really had nothing else to live for. She lost faith in living and that good things will not come to those with good hearts and intention since all she saw was her loved one dies and the evil still going on.

One day while in the market area with Marike, Willem, and another servant by the name of Karin, an incident occurred when the pirates from Freedom hit their port and caused chaos. It piqued Aleydis' interest as she's never came across pirates and despite their different way of life, she was interested. They seemed carefree without restriction and looked happier than where she was. Anyways, just so typical of Marike, she had to open her big mouth and catch one of the pirates' attention. The pirate noticed the shining jewellery that she was wearing and became interested in taking it. Aleydis wouldn't have mind, if only that Marike didn't involve poor little Willem in the stupid situation.

Aleydis just saw red when poor little Willem was into the pirate's hands along with her jewellery and Marike ran away like a coward as Karin just cower in fear. The pirate just stared at the baby without interest and became more interested with the jewels. Aleydis snatched the baby away from the pirate and instead kicked them a few feet away. All those years of fighting with Cheney actually paid off. Anyways, the pirate took notice of her and charged at her, and well, the two got into a hand-to-hand combat as somehow Aleydis managed to fight the pirate off while still protecting Willem in her hold. She didn't know what was overcoming her but all she knew was that she wanted to protect Willem. Somehow in the end, she defeated the pirate and one of the other pirates took notice of it.

At first Aleydis was on her guard but eventually backed down when the captain (or whoever) stepped forward and she became less defensive. Anyways, she didn't expect these words to come out of their mouth to join them since she defeated one of their best fighter, but she didn't want to return back to her old life. She silently agreed. Of course though, they wouldn't allow toddler WIllem with them, and so Aleydis then entrusted Willem to Karin and told Karin to tell her father the truth of what Marike did and that he no longer had to worry about his long forgotten daughter. She would take care of her own self from now on.

So once she became a part of the Freedom crew, she only told them her name was 'Alice', and that's about it. From then on, she learned to make a new her and her own reputation. She relied on them, but still she only relied on herself in the end. She did obey, but sometimes she did things on her own accord, but not much. Bit by bit she did reveal a little of her past, but couldn't bring herself to ever talk about. Until she meets Cheney again and things just become undone and her crewmates end up learning more about her in several moments than they did when she was with them for so long.

HISTORY WITH CHENEY:

Aleydis and Cheney met when they were about five years of age where his parents and grandparents were invited by her grandparents as they were long time friends at a gathering party for her Grandfather's birthday. His father and her father were quite close too. She was just enjoying a piece of her own cake when he came out of no where and scared her. She freaked out and spilled her cake all over herself. She ended up crying because of it and Cheney laughed at her. She threw a piece of cake at him and called him a meanie and he still laughed at her because she was still crying. The only reason he did this to her was because at this time she was the only girl child and he was bored since he never met or seen her before and didn't want to play with the other little boys. He nicknamed her "crybaby" since then and whenever they met again that's what he would always call her.

Then again, it didn't help since they had the same sort of tutors and usually had tutoring classes together because the kids could study while the adults mingled with one another and make future plans and the likes. He never really knew of her family's life situation as he didn't really care about it and she never really talked about. But because of his nonstop picking on her, she usually took out her frustration on him, although in the end he would dodge her lame attacks and counter tease back. Aleydis just couldn't win with him at all.

It wasn't until around when Aleydis was sixteen that news of her mother being a murderer floated around and others began to treat her differently every time she did go out or when company came over to the house, but Cheney was still the only one that treated her the same. She didn't know why, but she assumed he would just leave her alone like the rest of them, but he proved to do otherwise. To her, he was the only thing that remained the same in her life, even if she hated it, but it at least made her somewhat sane in some sense. Her educational lessons stopped around this time as well because her father believed that a child of a murderer didn't deserve to be educated if she has her mother's blood within her. So she never had lessons with him again and only saw him whenever he came around with his parents or grandparents, but then again that was rare since she was told to not interact with others and just act like a servant and do the chores and mind her own business and such. Then their connection ceased when she became nineteen and joined the Freedom crew and she never saw or heard from him again until years later.

Other than that, Cheney always scared Aleydis with snakes, lizards, and all those types of reptiles when they were younger and had lessons with one another. He always had a surprise for her even when she thought she already got him figured out. Anyways, because of that she has always become afraid and more or less in great dislike of them because of him. If given the chance, she would rather avoid killing them and just putting them somewhere else where they won't bother her.

CHENEY's LIFE AFTER ALEYDIS LEFT:

Cheney was then fully forced to focus on his father's business, Lion's Parts, because of the death of his older brother, Rhydian, who was several years older than him. As Rhydian had been quite sick for a year or so when Cheney was seventeen years old and Rhydian was twenty-six years of age. Cheney didn't want to be a businessman, but his father forcehim, despite Cheney wanting to do other things. He thought messing around would set him free, but it made his father, Nikolass, even more strict on him to take over the business. His father's business dealt with scrap metals and building materials for building ships, houses, and other things. Because he had to spend his time at Lion's Parts, he didn't have time to think about anything else because he had to learn about how to run things and making international trade.

So he spent the next seven years becoming a businessman in cargo ships and merchant vessels all the while pleasing his father hoping that he would lax on him and so he could do other things. One thing he did enjoy was that he did a bit of traveling when his father allowed him to and he always took the opportunity to do so and saw many places and assocated with other people and the likes because he was free to do things from out of his father's watchful eye and supervising. Of course he still lives with his parents, but he's working on moving out to live on his own and being a bit more independent. It's still in the works. For now though, he matured a bit, but still the same him, he's just glad his father isn't always so strict with him as he was like before.

Of course in those seven years, he did break a few hearts here and there, but he never stayed committed for long. He wasn't sure why, but figure it was because none of them had a hold of his heart. Maybe he thought it was because of growing up with how his parents treated him, but he didn't ponder for long on it that much. He was definitely a casanova with a high-end background to continue his handsome reputation despite the girls knowing he was a complete bad boy in some sense. [LOL]

character personality

Aleydis prefers to keep to herself and not say much. When she does have something to say, it's more of a neutral response or something in a different perspective that the others may not think of in the first place. When people ask personal questions or try to get to know her, Aleydis prefers not to answer and just give them a blank look before turning away so that they would get the hint she doesn't want to talk about it. Although she hardly talks, others seem to find her silent presence comforting in a different sort of matter. It's because she just listens to whatever they have to say and since she doesn't say anything she's not judging them. And those that have gain Aleydis' loyalty and trust, knows that she's a good person and would always be there for them. They don't judge her and she's content with that because she doesn't have to live to some sort of criteria.

Others find her silence an annoyance at times because she doesn't talk and so sometimes they don't know what is really going through her mind. This also makes them feel like after so long in being around one another she doesn't even trust them. Aleydis wants to be selfish and so believes she needs to be cold and distant so that others wouldn't have to worry about her. Aleydis is also not one for forgetting a misdeed even if she doesn't remember well. Even if she can't remember, she'll never forget. When she sees someone or a child being mistreated it's usually one of the few triggers that gets her riled up and she'll act with brute force. Because it reminds her of Willem and Marike. Then it leads to her thinking of her father, her past, and that gets her blood boiling.

All in all, she's pretty neutral and she's always grateful to those that have a conscience for the good even if it doesn't seem like so. It's because behind every intention there is always another meaning in doing so. She's not perfect, she knows that, but being boring and less active and blending in to the background makes everything easier for her to not remember her past.

She still has a grudge and hatred against Marike and even her father. She wonders what would happen if she ever saw them again. She knows that whatever happens, happened and wouldn't know if she could hold herself back. The only thing she really anticipates is seeing how little Willem turned out to be. Also she hasn't completely grieved over the death of her mother, and so that lies heavily deep inside her subconscious without her knowledge as she believed she did enough crying in her lifetime already.

PERSONALITY. Cheney is an eccentric and quirky kind of guy. He's weird at times, and does things in his own way despite it looking confusing to others. Despite his handsome features that he knows all the ladies fall for, he's quite playful and mischievous. Most of the time, Cheney's words and actions also have another meaning to them and he never really reveals what he truly means behind them either. He leaves it up to the other to figure it out on their own accord and interpret it however they like. Anyways, because of that, no one really takes him seriously at times and no one knows when he's being serious or not. Cheney is also a sociable person and a sweet talker, but it doesn't mean that someone gets to know the real him either. Everyone assumes he's just a rich socialite without a care to the world and can do whatever he wants because of his high status background. But, like everyone else in the world, he has his own demons too.

One of his demons is trying to be successful and stepping into the role that his older brother, Rhydian, left behind when he died. He didn't want to take on that responsibility and pressure. So he would rather bull instead of trying to succeed, because failing is not an option in his family. All the while he did appear successful in his father's eyes, Cheney has had other people help him behind his father's back to do his bidding for him, but paid his helpers a hefty amount to keep silent about it.

Another one of his demon is the onset and offset of the influence by his parentals' love, care, and affection towards him. While his father was somewhat of a brute, his mother was much gentler. She babied him while his father always told him to be a man and not act like a sissy. Whenever he was hurt, his mama always coddle him, but his father would make him go out and do things despite his wounds and injuries. His father was trying to teach him to be a manly man, while his mother just catered to his every whim, because at around this time Rhydian was an independant man and didn't need the care and attention from his mother. So the mom, Ariane, cater to Cheney because she didn't have anyone else to tend to.

When his father is around, he shows a proper and manly appearance with control and intimidation. When his father isn't around, he's aloof and goes about things in a childish manner. Although he plays around a lot and seems quite lazy, he does take in the information and uses it, but it's not in the way that's conventional and rational in doing it. He would rather do it in a fun way, instead of a long lecturing of ordering people around to do it here and there. He would rather be hands on, than behind a desk as it bores him and actually doing it doesn't.

MEETING. Aleydis and Cheney were first acquainted when they were just toddlers during one of their many family gatherings. He always bullied her, and she always cried because he was just a meanie. He dubbed her 'Crybaby' since that day. Every time he would greet her, he would just call her 'Crybaby' and Aleydis always tried to ignore him and show him that it didn't affect her. It always did in the end and eventually Aleydis would lose her cool and make a fool of herself because of him. Cheney enjoyed teasing Aleydis and always treated her differently compare to others. The both of them didn't know why, but she gave up in trying to figure it out and he just didn't bother in thinking about it.

Anyways, when she was around the age of nineteen, they never saw each other again because of her family situation. It wasn't until about seven years later that they would meet again. Aleydis has nearly forgotten about him, but as for Cheney, he hasn't. He'll always recognize and remember his favorite 'crybaby'. Because of him, Aleydis' past starts surfacing and all she wants to do is to just forget about them. And Cheney is totally not helping with that. He hasn't changed one bit, or so what Aleydis still thinks. Or he, himself, for that matter.
