from '"fans" on EXO's instagram / idol's life

Warning: Written with a load of satire and hyperbole. Can't stand it? Feel free to leave. If not, feel free to read this.

Okay, this is pretty much an add on from my blog post last Wednesday. The title is pretty much self-explanatory so yeah. I'll be discussing some issues with exo's instagram and idol's life .Firstly, let's define some key terms first.

Idols.

People who sing, dance, rap , play the instrument to entertain the general public at the expense of their privacy and freedom.

EXO

A 12 member boy band made up of normal humans who are either extremely talented , extremely hardworking or both.

Internet etiquette - Netiquette

Proper behaviour on the Internet that is socially acceptable, not causing its stakeholders; third-party harm .

Instagram.

A social networking site used by all.

So recently, when I logged onto tumblr & instagram ( Hey, I've another paper tomorrow but nah, I'm done with it, just going to sleep earlier tonight. ), I saw a whole lot of going on with this fandom - EXO.

When I mean , I mean doing stupid, ridiculous and preposterous things that actually insults the intelligence of the human race. ( Okay I'm exaggerating, just affecting our fandom in general).

I'm a loyal kiss me, that's my main fandom, an inspirit, a Cassiopeia , a beauty , a 4nia, a boice and an EXO fan. EXO's fandom was the latest one that I joined and for the first time in my entire non-existence fangirling life, I'm starting to fear my own fandom- it scares me with what other fans can do; the other fandoms that I've been in since I got into Kpop  can be described  in a word or two: it's freaking peaceful. There are rarely any fan wars, sasaeng incidents or bashing in the fandom but yet when I joined the EXO fandom, I started to develop a sense of fear towards it.

My own fandom scares me.

No, I'm not stereotyping the Korean fans, I don't judge people with what I see through the net as I know that there's always an exception or two in everything.

It's the Sasaeng / stalker fans that I'm talking about.

EXO is growing popular by the day; they're omnipresent, ubiquitous , in short, they're everywhere. Many have said they're growing overrated- too overrated is that true? I'll leave you with whatever opinion you have to float your own boat .

As their popularity rises, people grow more aware of them and as a matter of fact, their fan base increases but sadly, their sasaeng fans also increases.

I've mentioned previously that there's a fine line between love and hate but an even finer line between love and obsession.

Sasaeng fans , I've nothing much to say ( I can't find an apt word to describe their actions and I just can't fathom their reason for doing this.) If you love your idol, you'll want them to be happy and you'll respect them. So why the freaking hell are you disturbing them?

Invading further into their near extinct privacy?

Bashing on their innocent friends and family?

Leaving hateful comments on their photos so they can remember you?

Seriously, do you need a tight slap across your face to wake you up from this madness?

Wake. The..Up.

If you don't want people to call you names or insult your pride, why are you doing it to them then?

They created instagram to communicate with the fans ,to make us happy. The least we can do is to let them enjoy social media like we do. Why make everyone unhappy when you leave that stupid comment of yours insulting them?

I saw this on LuHan's instagram last night.

" You , you're so ugly. Why are you even an idol?"

To the commenter, sincerely from the bottom of my heart, I would like to say:

You're pathetic , I'm not going to say you because that would just be degrading myself; and yes, if you're going to insult LuHan, make sure you're a hundred times better looking then him if not, you're just insulting yourself. Once again, you're pathetic. Thank you.

I was taught internet etiquette as a child, when I was first exposed to the net, when I went to primary school and till now, I'm still learning about it. Your behaviour is just unacceptable, did you not pay heed to any of these lessons taught in school or are you blatantly ignoring them?

I seriously don't know.

Exo is just like any of us, they are humans and all of us are entitled to basic human rights that includes personal space,  respect and equality.

Their nature of their job requires them to give up on their privacy already, let's be honest; how many of us can actually admit that we know that BaekHyun has an elder brother by the name of BaekBeom ( or something along those lines, I can;t remember.), Kai having 2 noonas that are older than him and D.O smoking?

I'm pretty sure all of us know a bit or two about their private life.

Don't deny it.

By posting those nasty comments on their photos, you're going to put us normal fans into the bad light, lumping us with you delusional fans- fan wars in our own fandom would erupt. Love can turn into hate very easily; keep pushing the idols and it'll just be a matter of time before they start hating and fearing their own fans. Trust me.

Even the nicest people have their limits, don't push it.

You can have your own ships but don't please don't harass them with it. My friend in China was telling me how she witness Lu Han pulling XiuMin away angrily ,in the hotel, after a fan started throwing ual remarks at them; asking if LuHan treats him well or how big he is. ( No she wasn't stalking them, she was coincidentally there for dinner with her family when she witness the incident)

. Yes, indeed it's the new liberal 21st century but some things still stay the same after all these years.

Society is homophobic.

You can have your ships but let's admit it, Korea is a very archaic society in their ways of thinking. . Premarital pregnancy. Abortion. These are taboos there. Do you think, such a country, would be open to the idea of their idols, who are influencing their people, to be homoual?

The answer is a big fat no.

Asia has been criticised for their tradition and their obsession with perfection. Even if society is slowly opening to the thought of homouality, do you think they'll respect the idols if they find out their uality?

Really, do you want to scare off your idols?

Think about it.

On to my next point. What exactly do we know about idols?

Another flaw in our society is it being to materialistic and visual.

Idols on stage, they have flawless dance moves, perfect synchronisation , a perfect boyfriend image; but what about off stage?

Do they smoke? Do they drink? Do they give into their carnal desire?

This was a topic that I recently thought about after witnessing something at CN Blue Can't stop concert last night.

Before the concert, I was with my mother in the car; the car was parked , coincidentally, right outside the back stage exit. We didn;t want to squeeze with people to enter the venue so we waited in the car.

During the wait, I spotted 2 members of CN blue then.

YongHwa & JungShin.

YongHwa, he has the perfect boyfriend image. He can sing, he can rap, he can compose, he's sweet , he's kind- he's everything a girl wants in a guy.

But what if I tell you, I saw him smoking outside the venue?

I saw him personally , with my mom ( that makes 4 eyes ) , smoking with his manager.

You might be thinking of 2 possibilities now.

1) Outright condemning me- She's lying.

2) Question what I said- Is she telling the truth?

I'm not going to force you to believe, I'm just stating a fan account. No hard feelings.

Then I saw JungShin, instead of the cool guy image he had on stage, he was playful and kind. He fooled around with the security guard and was nice enough to take a selfie and autograph it for him. He fooled around with the camera and staff; attracting a small crowd.

I think to idols, when they visit other countries, it's a walk in the park to them. The fans aren't so rowdy and crazy. If you tell them no pictures, they'll apologise halfheartedly but keep their cameras.

I'm going to end here because I don't want to touch too much on this topic as it is really a double-edged persuasive topic. I still want to live and write my stories so I'm not going to continue. I'll leave with an image I found on Tumblr.

( My utmost repect to Lu Han for doing that. It was freaking ingenius. A round of applause for him. How many calls do they recieve a day to be so nonchalant about it? Sigh. Lord please bless their souls. )

Think about what I said and leave your thoughts, you can also gain a karma in return :)

this isn't directly relevant to exo - i'm just someone else passing by a bit of curiosity about what's happening with the whole kris thing. i just wanted to say. as for the smoking thing - i can be sure that i mean at least half the korean idols, and a majority of the male population, smoke. i don't see how the fans have any right to object (aside from concern for their health, i mean) to that since it's just privacy.

d.o. smokes, though? that's new- for me. haha.

Thank you ! You just said exactly how I feel ! Sasaengs have always pissed me off but now this situation with EXO makes me so ing frustrated .. If I'd ever witness sasaengs harrasing EXO or any other idol, it would be so hard to stop myself from slapping them .. I mean seriously they need some kind of wake up call .. -.-

I'm so embarrassed because of sasaengs that sometimes I don't want to admit that I'm fan of EXO .. And this IG harrasment *sighs* I don't even want to talk about that .. Like you said sasaengs need to wake the up ..

EXO members are just humans like any of us .. They are just freaking talented and they have worked so ing hard to achive their dreams .. They overwork themselves and this is how "fans" thank them; saying/commeting rude and inappropriate things, making them feel uncomfortable etc. Everytime when I hear that they have hurted (by saying something or actually doing something) the poor members, it kind of breaks my heart ...

I would like to thank you with this one hell of an amazing blog that shares the exact same thoughts of every EXO stan that has not lost their damn mind. I would also like to admire the idols, for their tolerance & putting up with their dumb actions for their passion in performing. I'd loose my if I was in their place.

I feel like saesangs are deranged anti s who disguise themselves as saesangs in order to harass these poor idols, with an actual reason just to do what they want to do. And for those who just like to be and write hate comments & think it will do something, their comment will be gone right when they click that refresh button. Like seriously, why do you even try .. ? Your existence will be gone, just as your pride & dignity as a human being will be too.

My poor babies. <|3 aw .

Thank you for this wonderful blog. Honestly, I hope that this will help many fans to be more open minded and start to question their attitude towards their idols. There are only few of us who truly understands everything. As a fan, it is okay to research about our idols but invading their personal space is too much already. They've given up so much for the fame that they have now and we should at least respect them for it.

I have my same ships too but I don't think I would go as far as to ask 'Does he treat you well in bed?' That's taking it to the extremes. South Korea is infact a very conservative country, while some artists are okay with shipping be it same couples or vice versa there are others who are uncomfortable when fans bring it up so we should respect their wishes if they don't want it talked about on their social medias. Some fans in my fandom also worry me a bit, I'm not afraid of them, but I am concerned deeply about their mental health and such how obsessive they can be it's sad seeing how far fans can go.

And I like that you didn't blame all Korean fans: It's just the sasaengs that's all, not every Korean fan is a sasaeng.

But anywho. Fans please, start showing a little respect to your artists. Would you like it if someone came up on your social networking platform and asked you personal questions or insulted you? Probably not. So please just respect their hardwork and all the effort they put out.

May i know how old are you? Because if your 20 or 19 below, wow, you really have wide mind. You REALLY understand what going on because some of the ages ranging 20below (i'm not saying ALL of them who's ages are 20below or not) don't think like you do. Hmm, about Yongwha smoking. Its okay for him to smoke like you said we are all humans. Me? I'm a VIP and its a peaceful fandom too. TOP is smoking too. We've seen pictures. And GD too. But we don't care, that's their life, we're only just mere fans who enjoys their music, showing their real life to us via social networking sites is just a BONUS to us FANS. FANS. not mother. Not girlfriend. Not wife. You're right STOP BEING DELUSIONAL. Same as you, i'm a new to this fandom and it scares me too. You know? You want to flaunt that you're an EXO FAN too to your other fandom's friends but you can't? It scares you that they might say that 'hey! She is one of the worst fandom!" I feel sorry for the 12 members. For having fans that can't control their obsession. That's why they don't open any messages send to them on their Instagram. I admit i enjoyed knowing family facts or whatever facts about them. I admit i'm leaving message to them on Instagram but not to extent that i'm leaving annoying messages to them every minute. I know my lines. I know my limits. I respect them. So lets just pay their hardworks and respects for us.

props to luhan for doing that. If only all idols united to show what sasaengs are truly doing then maybe they would feel embarrassed and stop. I agree with what your saying and i seriously want to know what goes on in a sasaengs mind? like seriously who in their right mind thinks that invading ones privacy will leave a good impression? ugh such idiots. I just hope SM or any company takes legal action against them, or take them into rehab or something. Clearly they're not thinking properly and it makes me feel so bad for all idols whose privacy is invaded by them. ugh I'm going to stop now otherwise this will turn into a 1000 word essay haha.

Your right, i really don't get it on why the sasaeng fans act like that... EXO are also humans....
Lets just put it like this: what if you are on their foot? Being stalked every minute of your life and don't feel secured? Do you think it's just fine?
....and if they are not famous, yes they are attractive, but will they ever notice them?... So it's all about popularity ? (For some) logic...
And, the fudge! The comments on their instagram, wow....and just one week...BOOM! A million of followers!
.
.
.
And I feel my comment has no sense...i don't know....i just can't express welll in terms of this issue,
