There Is No Balance!

 

Hey everyone, it's me again, MissBoss.

 

Tonight, I'm up for a serious talk about... what happened to good stories and good authors on AFF?

This is just my opinion but you are welcome to share yours at the comment section. I am only going to share my experience.

 

 

First of all, I do not claim that I am a great author who needs to get their sent to a publisher ASAP.

I'm just a person who happened to enjoy writing too much and wanted to share my stories with the rest of the kpoppers, like most of the authors out there. I've had so many ideas for fictions and I enjoyed writing them and getting the thrill any author gets after getting a few comments on their work.

That is all fine and nice, but what happens when you don't get comments, subscribes or views at all, even though your work is quite fabulous. It could be sold in stores and gets you more money than it could get you comments.

And I'm not excluding myself, I am an exo biased author as well. But I used to be Bigbang-author since the ancient days of this website. Find out what happened in the following response:

 

This is my response to the question: why are good authors overshadowed on AFF?

 

You know it's not about getting featured or popularity. I'm actually an author who gets praised a lot but never got featured or anything! I don't even want to, it's too much pressure anyway. Just write what you write, true readers who seek the joy of reading will find your stories and will leave you heart-warming comments too, trust me. But if you keep trying to write something that would fit the standards of the readers and not your standards, that's where you fall.

I know some people who write for trends for example. So if it's a trend to write for a certain character, group, or genre, they do it. Just to get lights, but that exactly is what gets them overshadowed. Instead, look for something that only you can do. Something unique.

For me. At first I started writing for BigBang. I thought there was just not enough stories about them, but then some hurricane hit and the whole website was Bigbang biased!! I was startled and stopped writing for them anymore (which was my mistake by the way) and started writing for Exo. they were nameless at the time, and I only knew three to four author who wrote about them and B.A.P continuously. I was encouraged and wrote for them too, but you see now, this website became the zombieland of exo fictions! too much exo fictions out there. I didn't repeat my mistake this time, but I might start rewriting for the other bands for the sake of balance, you know.

I hope you get my point.

And actually this rant was good, I'll post it up on my blog lol :)

 

This website needs some serious balances.

There are way too many great ideas that gets washed down the drain because they are exo-centered. I love exo (obviously), but I also love Super Junior. Big Bang. TVXQ. 2PM. BAP. SNSD. 2ne1. MBLAQ. BEAST and even Winner. I can abandon exo and just start writing for any of these great people and even the others who I didn't mention, but that won't solve it. It'll just tare at me because I also enjoy writing for exo, but that's beside the point; it actually won't change anything because I will be doing it alone.

 

But if every one on this site started writing a story of their non-exo shipped pair, alongside the stories that they are running!! The world will certainly be a better place, right?!

 

And readers who have trouble reading only exo stuff will thank you for eternity because they have MISSED their original otps from other bands or groups, and it breaks my heart when I see them begging of an author to write for their pairs too. (That is why I always accept requests, seriously, that's my only reason) 

 

So yeah... that's all I have to say for that post.

P.S. I seriously am going to start writing for Eunhae, Banghim and Gtop again... especially Gtop.

I'll try to keep my Taoris feels at bay for a while, but first, I have to complete the fictions I've started so that I'm fair.

And I perfectly understand that that'll never get me featured because only exo-fictions gets featured lol... but ya'll know I don't care about fame

I had a Gtop story But i deleted it cause it
I wanted to rewrite it and put it up again cause it should be perfect! ITS GTOP WE ARE TALKING ABOUT! THE FIRST COUPLE WHO DRAGGED ME IN WORLD DAMN IT! LOL
its a good rant and i can kinda see that Cause I read Every single OTP like everyone! not only Exo and i really dun mind the Exo hurricane around here
well its just what people like cant change that and before i thought about it and some of the reasons i came up with is that their faces are perfect for a story specially the fantasy ones thats why many authors go for Exo~
IM a Huge fan of SUJU, TVXQ, BIGBANG,SHINEE, 2ne1 and also Exo But i think the fact that some stories dun get enough Subs or comments is true
As i said i read a LOT! and i have noticed many amazing stories not getting enough attention~
Its sad but when i read something awesome I always make a blog about it wanting to share with everyone~
I honestly think its not only about Exo its what characters the readers are asking for~
i wish there was a system where a story of Each group would get featured on the first page!

I believe that this is what The Library was trying to do, make it easy for people to find good stories about any band. They are always accepting recommendations... and need more people to MAKE those recommendations, too!

OHMYGAWSH! I just saw this now but... I agree with you in so many ways!!! like... I don't even read fanfictions here anymore. There is no balance! I'm not an Exo fan but I don't hate them... still... I haven't and probably won't read the fanfics though because... I feel like good AFF writers are not even writing anymore! I mean, they probably are but... I haven't been seeing it (T.T) So yea, i'm glad somebody understands! ^^

But still, I have around 10 subscriptions on each fanfiction and 2 or three comments in each story. I even lost some priority and motivation to write (and I know it's somewhat wrong but I can't help it), because in one story I updated like three times and no one has commented, and the comments I was yearning for were to simply say if they were liking the story, if it was doing good, things like that. And in these moments, I tend to think that if I had written those stories EXO-related, maybe it would have gotten a better response. Still, the two stories are pretty new so I won't feel let down by the small amount of readers I have, I won't complain, I will try harder to make better chapters instead. But this is an issue that I know is happening on this page, and that is affecting people who are good (not talking about myself, I'm talking about some authors I have seen that are very good but get zero recognision). Sorry for the long a*s rant!

I once considered starting a fanfic, I already had the story sorted out and all, and I noticed that the EXO fanfics were the ones that were the most popular, that had the most extense feedback you may say, I know that's a bad way of thinking about your story, because it's like chasing after popularity and not doing it for the sake of writing and because it is what you truly like to do, and I understood that later but that's something I'll explain in a minute. Anyway, even though the main objective of this page is to write and read and share the things that we like, which are Asian/Kpop related, everyone must admit that some recognision is not so bad, because it motivates you to keep going. That is why I was tempted to do an EXO-related fanfiction (I'm a fan of EXO, it wasn't entirely for the popularity however). But then I stopped to think about it, and realised that I was thinking the wrong way, that a fanfic would get recognision if it's good, no matter what characters are involved or from what fandom or group. So I decided to make two fanfictions (not all at once, first one and them like a month later I started another, but you get my point), and the characters involved in the first fanfic were IU and Suzy, and actor Kim Soo Hyun, the Hyunzy pairing, because I ship that pairing and there are barely fanfics with these people! And the second one was with Skytempo and TopBom.

yes. I swear to god, every featured ff here nowadays is an eco fic. it's annoying, honestly. I love exo. they're great, talented, but oh my god, some of their fans are way too much. and the thing is, when i say stuff like that, people are like, week, what about Anterograde Tomorrow? huh? Arbitrage? You wouldn't have those ffs if it weren't for us.

but the thing is, we would. the thing most of us are complaining about aren't exo fics in general, but rather the excessiveness of it all. some of you guys are seriously just writing fics because its exo. that's it. you have no interest in writing, the aff community, you just want exo fics to have the most recognition on aff. it's beyond stupid.

I agree D: I love exo but there's too much exo fics here, I actually like the type of stories that have like.....someone from exo, someone from bap, someone from Suju, someone from SNSD haha that type of fics that have everyone in there :D

- According to poptart, I am one and I'm still here.
I'm writing exo fanfics, and yes, believe it or not, not all exo writers get comments or hundreds of views. My stories are not what the market demands - what the majority of the users here in aff likes. And just because I write exo, doesn't mean I cannot be overshadowed. The main issue here is that... it's not just about writers not writing non-exo fics but readers not reading non-exo fics. Because if one is dedicated to their fandom, finding fics about their group won't be that hard. And with the excluded tags option, we can now search fics that do not have the exo-tag. http://www.asianfanfics.com/blog/view/752162

Also, in general, writers won't abandon their fics easily if readers actually show up and tell them that they like it. Otherwise, when that writer's block hits, add to that all his/her insecurities for being neglected by his/her own readers, the writer can easily pack up and leave. Why continue sharing stories when no one seems to enjoy it but him/her?

If you want to get your non-exo fic featured, all readers had to do is to upvote them. I seriously wonder if these users who gripe about the featured fics actually did something to give the fic a chance to get featured.

Oh Gosh, someone finally said it! It started to get irritating seeing so many exo fics on the site. I can't find any new nice stories about the groups i like 'cause most authors are now writing exo fics. I seriously miss those beautiful Super Junior fanfics.

I can't find good non-exo fanfics and it makes me so annoyed that i started abandoning some ongoing nice non-exo fics i liked to read very much just because they added some exo members to it out of nowhere.

I am exo biased but the only reason i write stories about them is because of my ships and ships only, like when i first joined aff was when i was suju biased but i only wrote eunhae... it is true there are WAY too many exo fics but only because they are the big news at the moment... until a new and very popular group comes along it will most likely stay this way, exo is the trend ._."

but ive noticed that most of the exo fics have a somewhat similar plot, especially the you fics.. it's either "the guys that like me have deep dark secrets" or "omg wolf schoolboys"

of course i'm no better with my typical highschool fics especially my current one with the overdone popular and unpopular.. i wouldn't mind someone's featured fic about another group, anything for me to stop seeing you fics about either Luhan or Jongin... it's a real eyesore... but if i saw a you fic of chanyeol being featured i'd flip my laptop
