VIXX, Exo's miracle of december, SNSD's love and peace
So today's rant will consist of a few topics.
The first topic would be Eat Your Kimchi's review of Vixx's Voodoo Doll. I almost never look at Eatyourkimchi because I don't feel that it's a legit website. I came across the article on twitter so...
When I read the review, I was like mehh. Here's an extract of the review:
It’s not a bad song! It’s a really interesting video! But the mumblecrusting at the beginning of the song, and other Vixx songs as well, make us either cringe or howl. Guise: it’s so bad. So bad! The rest of the song would be totally fine without it. COMPLETELY. I don’t feel like it adds any value to the song at all. Quite the opposite: it makes the song worse. WHAT THE HELL IS HE SAYING? I can’t even find subtitles to it online. I googled the lyrics to Voodoo Doll and couldn’t find anyone who translated it in, like, the first seven posts that showed up. It’s like they all shook their heads and pretended it didn’t exist. And his normal speaking voice is totally comprehensible. It’s just this rap persona he takes on that make him sound like someone reading a tongue-twister with a sock stuffed in their mouth. All I could think of is Eddie Murphy talking about James Brown
Well. Urm. Does this look like a legit review to you guys? To be honest, I find Ravi's english fine. Although it took me a few repeats to catch what he was saying, I still managed to catch it in the end. Something like 'you shot right through my heart. I'll fight for you', something like that.
Sure, Ravi's english might actually sound weird/funny/whatever word to describe his rap, but the rest of the song is actually quite good. In fact, I think Ravi's english is way better than most Korean idols. It's probably the way he sounds. His voice is quite thick and deep and low and just very gahhh. I don't even know anymore.
This review just make Vixx's song seem stupid when it's actually quite nice.
Another extract from the same article from EYK:
But it’s not something that’s really groundbreaking or all too unique sounding or anything that gives Vixx a clearly distinct sound over other Kpop groups (apart from Ravi’s intros)
Hmm. Wow. This is kind of degrading Vixx. And because this review totally throws me off, I shall do a mini review of the song right now.
Review:
To be honest, for those who hate dubstep, this song isn't for you. But then again, k-pop has a lot of dubstep in the first place.
So starting from Ravi's rap. The english wasn't clear, I agree. But Ravi's intro was not all that bad. I think the transition from intro to verse 1 was good. The verse consists of a lot of dubstep. The beat is very consistent. The dubstep in the background is actually on repitition. So overall, it doesn't sound very messy. The pre-hook is actually my favourite. They did away with the noisy dubstep and the beat, replacing it with something lighter. And as the pre-hook progresses, you can tell that the music is reaching the . Then the beat returns in the chorus. The chorus' structure is surprisingly neat. Their voices suit the background very well and this makes things much more pleasant. And the 'should i go, should i stay, nobody knows' was not necessary, but a welcome addition to the chorus. The bridge is awesome. It sounds similar to the pre-hook in terms of structure. The disappointing thing was probably the lack of ad libs for me. There was but a small amount.
Overall, the song was very coherent, unlike snsd's I got a boy (but that song's nice and a totally different thing altogether.) I feel this song pretty much confirms Vixx music style. Very dubstep-ish, electronic and all. This song gives off the same vibe as Hyde tbh. It's noisy, but isn't messy. It's catchy, but not the best song in the album. I think b.o.d.y was more catchy, with the chorus. And only u has this unique sound and a more mature vibe than voodoo doll. They should have promoted only u, but ufortunately, the k-pop community wouldn't receive very well, I think. Also, the sepia mv for only u was far better than the gory voodoo doll.
Voodoo Doll would make great dancing material, occasional listens on your playlist. But if you're looking for a soulful listening experience, this shouldn't go in your playlist (songs by k.will should do the trick for you.)
I'd rate this a 7/10 because I'm seeking a mature sound, not dancing material. But my friend who embraces dubstep would probably give this an 8 or 8.5.

And look! Exo has a new album again! (No, I'm not excited. Can't you tell its sarcasm?)
SM is probably trying to money from Exo. As much as possible. In fact, SM's miracle of december is probably increased album sales from exo. And guess what. SM has a new pre-debut team, called SMRookies!
Baksu~
What if, the profit from exo ends up being spent on SMRookies? Then I'd say exo's been used. If this is true, I'm glad f(x) isn't being used like that. But, if you've seen twitter, you'd know that for the sm artists greetings, it consists of a calendar, a notebook or something, and a dvd. And of course, f(x) misses out on the dvd. It's always like that. Sometimes, I wonder what f(x) did to deserve such treatment from SM.
My timeline on twitter consists of f(x) stans raging because of SM's horrible treatment. Ugh.
I'm so done with SM.

And also, crayon pop's being accused of plaigirizing some japanese anime. It ain't the first time, but that's none of my concern.

My friend and I might be starting up a k-pop review thing on livejournal. Because of EYK's review of Vixx. She is absolutely impulsive. But whatever.

And I'm looking forward to snsd's love and peace. I've heard the previews. Gossip Girls isn't what I'm looking out for because it sounds horribly noisy. Lips and Everyday Love are what I'm looking forward to. These two songs are great. And hopefully, SM will release the full mv of beep beep soon because it's been way too long.

Cheers.
