The leader of my affections (yes, Sunggyu!)
You know, it’s not easy being the leader. Okay, that is such a truism, but I just had to throw that out there, being the leaderholic that I am.
Oh, I’m not saying being the maknae is any picnic (I will never forget Woohyun telling Sungjong, laughing maniacally the whole while, You’ll be the maknae forever. We’re going to pick on you forever! Like, dude, seriously. Kinda creepy).
Yet, I think people forget that being at the front may give you more exposure—but that makes you a more visible target as well. The leader is responsible for discipline, and if someone gets out of line, he/she has to take the blame for it. True, some groups don’t even have leaders, but in groups that do, dollars to doughnuts, if there’s a foul-up, he/she is the one getting the metaphorical (or literal) dressing-down.
Different leaders tackle this dilemma in different ways, of course.
Like, apparently, Onew is a pretty chillaxed leader (Shawols, correct me if I’m wrong).
B1A4’s Jinyoung seems to have a pretty good relationship with his team, almost democratic, but not really.
MBLAQ’s Seungho is well-known for being the tough hyung, keeping the kids in line with some good old-fashioned threats of beatdowns (though we all know he wouldn’t do it, he’s such a softie, when you get down to it, but the possibility is there).
And then, of course, there is my favorite leader.
Kim Sunggyu.
At first blush, people might ask, “How on Earth is that kid the leader?”
He’s a well-known scaredy-cat (e.g. scared of dogs, water, heights). Spends a lot of time either sitting and/or lying down. Looks confused half the time. Constantly bullied on-camera by the other Infinite members.
Yet, in the end, he’s got those children falling in line.
Observe.
Myungsoo is the one to suggest singing a cappella…yet, who starts it? And look how they all naturally lean into Sunggyu.
And it’s not just those guys, all the members do it.
Notice how slowly, but surely, every single member’s eyes move towards Gyu at some point.
And finally, what is real power? Real power is when they all turn towards you, and you’re not even on camera!
Clearly, the fangirl who captured this was not a GyuGirl, but ha! The power of the Gyu is strong!
P.S. Was this post an excuse to post some Infinite a cappella? I’ll never tell! Hahahaha.
