Yi Ryeong is motherly and has a strong sense of justice. She acts like a big sister for everyone, dependable and wise, she is always there for them when they have problems and gives out advice. She chooses her wordings carefully because she absolutely hates it when the other party feels hurt or offended by her words. She cannot tolerate seeing her friends being bullied or seeing anything bad happen to them. She will stand up for them even if it means getting herself in trouble. Due to her motherly instincts, it has made her sort of secretive with her true feelings about something. She barely mentions her feelings especially the negative ones for she fear it would be used against her in the future. Also, by stating her feelings, it might make others worry about her which is something she doesn't like, she covers up her problems with a smile and tries to solve it by herself.

She might be a bit quick to upset when she has practiced over and over, but still couldn't get it right. She never tells anyone she's upset, she'll just be very quiet all of a sudden and make the other person wonder.

Background: 

Yi Ryeong was born in Korea. Her childhood wasn't the best, with her mum leaving the family after she was born, her's dad's business failing, so many problems popped up when she was born. She never had a complete and loving family, however she grew up into a normal kid. At the age of 8, a wealthy French lady came to Korea and invested a lot of money into her father's business. Unexpectedly, the two fell in love and got married. After they got married, everything seemed to fall back into place, with her dad's business flourishing.

The step mom was a loving woman and wasn't like the one in Cinderella. She loved Yi Ryeong like her own and even sent her to California for better education. There she got into Toll Middle School where she met Nicole Jung from Kara before she was even a trainee. After middle school, Yi Ryeong decided to go back to Korea because she missed her family terribly.

At the age of 16, she was scouted by SM Entertainment when she was having lunch with her dad. Her dad being the protective dad he is, almost punched the manager thinking he was a kidnapper. Once they got to know his real identity, he gave Yi Ryeong the choice instead of deciding on his own. In the end, Yi Ryeong accepted the offer and became a trainee for SM Entertainment.

How you guys met: Met in the training room where she wa practicing. He thought no one was there and entered, she felt so upset that her face was red (she doesn't like others seeing her practice). He took an instant disliking to her because she was tall, almost his height.(You know how short he is haha). 

How you act around each other: Jonghyun teases her a lot about her shyness and quiet personality. It sometimes gets to her and she finds herself bickering (playfully) with him. They love to play video games together, with Jonghyun often challenging her. Jonghyun says if she wins (90% of the time), Jonghyun treats her out to dinner, if she loses Jonghyun playfully asks her to kiss him on the cheek(she doesn't do it of course, a whack on the arm or a pinch in the cheek, saying he's a ert). It's actually Yi Ryeong who starts initiating the skinship at first, like play biting, holding hands... Then Jonghyun slowly takes the lead after a few more times after feeling more comfortable.

They separate ways and he doesn't find her back home. Someone close to her and him like Onew, tells him that she is scared of thunder. He goes to look for her apologizes.

How was the trainee life?:It was hard. On the first year, SM trained her to become a model/ actress. However, when Jong Suk dropped out of trainee life, there was a vacancy for trainees and she was put up for it. 

The following years, she was trained like a normal trainee. SM actually put up with her stiff dancing because of her stable vocals. They put a lot attention in her vocals, seeing her as a potential main vocal and she is to be left to side when it came to dancing. Eventually, her dancing skills were a bit better. At least, now she could do a whole flexible wave, it was less stiff, but she was still awkward when it came to learning new dances.
