During my absence from AFF and live journal, pencil pushing stories and failed attempts at making brownies, I decided to compile a list of overly used phrases and lines in SHINee fanfiction. My list has not been lengthy since I forget to write down these noted observations, but there is one phrase that I am sure ranks number one:

“…like a cat lapping at a bowl of milk.”

I am sure you have a strong guess as to who this phrase is in reference to: none other than Kim Kibum from SHINee.

I understand why the reference to the feline species is strongly used towards Kibum (“feline eyes,” “saunters like a cat searching for prey” <- these lines make me giggle every time I see it); he indeed does have the feline qualities of a cat (his eyes more specifically). However, the phrase and cat metaphors/similes are EVERYWHERE. It’s hard not to notice, and sometimes, written word for word.

I challenge all those who are guilty of using these phrases/references to knock it off >=D. This is fanfiction, have fun with it! Sometimes it pays to be impractical to become practical.   

I point this out not because I’m annoyed about it, but I just find it hilarious every time I catch it. In my experience as a reader, I am less likely to pay attention to what the story is trying to tell me after I discover the cat references in there somewhere, because for me, my mind says “ok, we get it, tell me something I don’t know” lol. That is unfair, I know it is, but I smack my brain afterwards to pay attention to the story again. This only applies to me, everyone is different, and some people may not even be bothered by it.
