Questions

Just some questions I was wondering about:

  • Is the title “traumatic bonding” okay? With the lower case. I wanted to enter it in a writing comp., but I'm not sure about the title and whether it's impacting enough. And I don't want to be deducted marks for the lower case. If you were browsing  the latest updated fanfics, would you pass over it because it was lower case?

  • Are abuse fanfics supposed to be rated M? (Even if it focuses mainly on emotional abuse?)

  • Is the name “my beloved” too creepy? (When you are referring to someone.)

  • When you refer to someone whose gender you don't know, can you say “they”? (Singular.)

I really appreciate it if you could answer these questions or any of them at all :)

1. Well it all depends on the story, but I'd recommend capitalizing it.

2. To be safe I mark my abuse stories rated M to warn readers that it may contain graphic content be it physical or emotional but this is just me

3. Ummmm...I have no idea O.O

4. I think it should be fine

1. I think you should capitalize the title
2. I've read some stories with abuse in it and they aren't rated, but I think it depends on what happens and how much of it is there. Since it's emotional and not physical then I don't really think that it should be rated. idk just my opinion.
3. "My beloved" uhhh idk. it depends on what the plot is like other people have said.
4. Using 'they' to refer to an unknown gender i think is alright. i mean that's what i use when i don't know. again just my opinion, but i don't think readers would mind if you use it.

1. Capitalize it.
2. Rate it.
3. Depends on the plot/time.
4. Instead of pronouns, use names.

1. The title seems a bit bland to me, but its interesting enough to garner interest. If I saw it I would probably click on it, but it feels very summary-ish of a title. Lowercase titles are fine for me, but you may have those grammar Nazis that get pissed when authors use lowercase as a stylistic choice.
2. I don't think there is a rule about abuse five having to be rated m unless many scenes are rated. However, since you are focusing on emotional abuse than physical, I would not rate it and put trigger warnings in the foreword instead, at least that is what I would do.
3. It depends on the context and how the person uses it.
4. Yes, you can use 'they.'

1. Hm, I do like the title but to be honest I feel I might browse over it if I were looking for a story. The title would catch my eye though.

2. You might have to rate it M only because you have to question that. I think it depends just how bad the emotional abuse could get.

3. Not at all, I think it's really sweet and cute!

4.Yeah, I think that's perfectly fine. Better than saying "it", haha.

I hope I was of some help somehow!
