SM Merger with Woolim

[Pann] What's going on with the SM C&C and Woolim merge?

First off, I think everyone should remember it's Pann, so of course the post would be biased and not 100% accurate or factual.

To copy and paste from NB's FAQ:

- Are the controversies and rumors that come up in Pann or Telzone important?

Yes and no. K-Pop fandoms have a love/hate relationship with Pann because if your group ends up on there for something positive, the amount of exposure can potentially rival any expensive PR campaign.

To put things into perspective, each section of Pann has their own ranking so that users can easily look at the most viewed/commented/voted threads of the day/week/month.

There is also an overall ranking displayed at the side (static, users will see it no matter what page they're on) that ranks the most voted or discussed threads from the entire Pann community as a whole.

So imagine what happens when an uninformed netizen writes a malicious thread filled with rumors or lies. You can only hope and pray that it doesn't catch on and end up in the overall ranking because after that, you can pretty much kiss any chance of saving the group's image goodbye, especially with the witch hunt mentality that comes with it.

So going back to the part where I mentioned that journalists source from netizen run community boards? This is exactly what I mean. Once an issue becomes big enough on Pann or Telzone, journalists take it directly to the media, whether or not it's true. This is EXACTLY what happened with every single one of Block B's scandals.

If a group isn't under a company powerful enough to prevent it from happening, journalists will run the story because any drama is better than no drama, and hey, netizens are saying it's important so it must be important!

Think back to every scandal any idol has ever been in. Where did they start?

I don't know what to believe to be honest. Yes, SM do have competition from Woollim. There is only so much room for groups known for their choreography. The main groups that spring to mind when I think of "dance group" are Infinite, SHINee and Teen Top. Out of those three, Infinite are probably doing the best all things considering. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe SHINee or Teen Top have had a world tour yet. Teen Top had a European tour, but that was all.

However, why would SM spend so much money to buy out Woollim if they just want to sabotage their artists? JYJ are enough proof to show that they can do it without owning an artist. SM are known for being power and money hungry, so why buy out Woolim and not promote their artists properly?

Yet, it's true what the OP said. Tasty and Infinite are still being distributed by Loen. If the merger was true, wouldn't Infinite have more screentime instead of less? Surely SM would want Infinite out there as much as possible?

But then, SM does not rely solely on Infinite for profit. Woollim have an acting department and though it may not be huge, Infinite is not the only thing to be gained from Woollim. Kwak Jong Wook will probably be a very successful actor in the future. He was on a "actors to watch"  list a while back. There's not doubt he's a great actor. I would not be surprised if he doesn't hit it big. People think he has the visuals (he successfully pulls off cute and badass) and the acting skills.

How reliable are those "staff" conversations? It's common that people lower on the business ladder would have no idea what is happening with the merge.

It wouldn't surprise me if SM jumped the gun on things. They probably are pressuring Woollim into decisions, but SM like to have pressure on everyone.

SM didn't help out a lot with Infinite's scandals. Woollim and SM have extremely different PR approaches and nothing about their scandals screamed "SM", it was all Woollim. The scandal times lined up.. But again, we never know what os going on behind closed doors. SM may have been trying to do damage control.

But then, I keep saying SM here and so does everyone else. Yet it's not SM, is it? It's SM C&C. That doesn't stop the affiliation with SM though.

K-Shawols aren't happy about the new Key and Woohyun sub unit, so I think that people are trying to stir the pot.

Both sides have excellent points. I'm hoping there'll be more interest in this issue now and that some netizen will uncover something that will shed light on the whole situation, because honestly the post has holes in it.

Honestly I like the idea of a Key and Woohyun sub unit. It gives me more hope that this duo will somehow do a song together even for an album song or something:

I like GyuWook. Their friendship is cute and funny. And they're only two years apart. (Sunggyu looks like the hyung though. Ryeowook is the eternal maknae, after all.)

I've probably forgotten to mention something important, but I'm very tired rn.

Meh the merger...I don't get business stuff. But I think SM bought out Woolim not tear them down, but to take advantage of their assets.
