Beautiful Soul

Personality:

JangMi is your typical tomboy with a tough exterior and has been that way ever since she was a little kid. Instead of hanging out with the girls and their dolls in 3rd grade, she was playing Yu-Gi-Oh or baseball with the guys. She doesn't talk much but when she does, expect something completely blunt or sarcastic. She doesn't express herself with her words very well but she does with her body language. You can tell is she doesn't like something when she starts rolling her eyes or scoffing. If she gets really mad, expect a string of English curses flow out of like a waterfall. Despite her tough exterior, she can be very sweet when she chooses to, but only on the down low. The only other time she talks is when she gets fired up when she watches sports. If she notices one of her members hurting, expect to find an ice pack or medicine on their bed without any note or anything. She doesn't want to admit that she actually cares. She cares but she just doesn't show it. The people around her mean the world to her and she would do anything to protect them. She the kind of girl that acts very disinterested and separated but you just have to understand that she needs her space. It takes her a while to open up and she is very defensive at first but you just need to get her to feel comfortable around you.

Music is her real passion. She loves being able to sit and just play on her guitar all day. She is completely self-taught and takes pride from being so. When she gets in her zone, she just sits there playing with her eyes closed and mouth in a small smile. She has a definite hate for mainstream sounds, however, and her goal is to take the K-pop world by storm and introduce her indie flare. It's going to be hard but she has a "never-give-up" attitude that keeps her going. Once she has her mind set on things, nothing can stop her. We're talking sleepless nights, endless practices, and 100% effort until she reaches her goal. She hates disappointing others and she hates failing. At the same time, her perseverance is also her downfall. At times, it can be interpreted into stubbornness. Since she puts everything into meeting her goals and dreams, she often has to sacrifices her relationships with others and often her health. Endless nights at the studio mean days without seeing her friends and family. Sleepless nights often convert to exhaustion and it doesn't help that she won't eat unless you remind her to.

Like every girl, she has insecurities. Her biggest insecurity is her outside appearance. This only really started, however, when she moved to Korea to be a trainee. One issue was her weight. After years of playing Little League baseball, she had grown a significant amount of muscle in her arms and legs. The muscle makes her weigh more than she looks so when the trainer would weigh her, she could never lose the weight he wanted her too. It makes her feel fat, but in fact she is totally healthy. Another issue was her image. Even when she was a kid, she was made fun of, by the girls, for hanging out with the guys and even looking like one. When she moved to Korea, things became even more severe. She doesn't want to change her image though. That's who she is. She is not going to suddenly start prancing around like some princess. She feels she has to it up and let the world take it's course. She hurting, but she would rather choose to ignore it.

Background:

JangMi grew up in New York City - Queens if you want to be more specific. If you want to go even deeper, she lived in Flushing, where most of the Asians in Queens lived. Living in NYC, JangMi was exposed to so many different cultures, personalities, and people. She thinks that's what shaped her to be so open with who she is now despite being so different. With her father as a surgeon, she get a lot of freedom since he would work the whole day and not come back until late and night. Her mother, although over-protective, was the typical housewife who busied herself with the chores until her husband came home. This gave JangMi time to explore the city by herself. While her mother thought she was in her room studying, JangMi would sneak out of her bedroom window and scale down the fire escape from her family's 7th floor apartment like some lunatic. When her father did have the night off, however, she cherished it. Of course she missed her father. Their nights together were spent watching the New York Mets baseball game at the stadium. The two were fanatics and JangMi promised herself that one day she would sing the national anthem and/or throw the opening pitch for her father. She got into "boy games" like Yu-Gi-Oh because her parents were big believers that TV would turn your brain into mush so her father never paid for cable. Instead, she would only get to watch cartoons on Saturday which coincidentally only consisted of Yu-Gi-Oh, Poke'mon, and other "boy" animes.

Music became a big thing for her because of her secret escapades in the city. Hanging out in the subway, she took notice of all the street performers who didn't care that they made only a few extra buck playing in a dirty subway junction. They played because they loved to play.At first, it all confused JangMi. How could they love to do something so much when it brought no benefit to them? So, one day, she tried it out. She stayed out later than she was supposed to, one night. It was probably around midnight and she was still on her way home. The performers were just packing up to go as well and her curiosity got the better of her. She approached one of them who had a guitar and asked them if they could teach her a little bit. She fell in love instantly. After that night, she convinced her father to buy a guitar for her. The late night adventures stopped and instead she locked herself in her room, teaching herself how to play with books she borrowed from the library.

Her passion for music grew and she convinced herself that she wanted to be a performer. She convinced her parents to let her go to Korea, though it was hard since her father had his mind set that he wanted her to be a doctor as well. She stayed at a small apartment at the cusp of Seoul just because living in Seoul was much more expensive. She spent her time working at coffee shops in Hongdae and playing her guitar. When she got tired of playing the same songs over and over again, she started to write her own. She wanted to write songs that were different from the mainstream songs released. The mainstream songs were so predictable and similar. She wanted songs that would surprise her, songs that were different and fresh. Now, working at coffee shops didn't make anough to support her and she knew if she didn't find another source of income, she would have to move back to NYC so she started selling songs to different companies as a freelance composer. Woolim picked her up after she sold a bunch of songs already.

We Are Family

tumblr_mksmr8Iefl1qafk6uo1_1280.jpg (500×755)

Family:

Dad - Cho YuChan - 50 - surgeon - workaholic, caring

Mom - Cho JinJu - 46 - housewife - protective, control-freak

Friends:

Chance - 24 - Leader and main composer of One Way/ co-composer of composing group Duble Sidekick - JangMi met up with him out of pure luck when she was walking around in HongDae. As another aspiring composer, the two immediately became friends. She felt more comfortable around him since he is from LA and could speak English to him. He has that "Western swag" that all her friends at home have. As he went on to debut with One Way, she was his support.

Tablo - 33 - Leader and rapper of Epik High - Before JangMi was a trainee, she was a composer under the alias "Black Rose". Tablo was assigned as her mentor to help enhance her skills. The two worked as a pair every once in a while.

Best Friend:

Peter - 23 - Main vocal of One Way - Chance introduced JangMi to Peter and they became instantly close. They were so close that they became closer than Chance was to JangMi. The three have an on-going joke that JangMi "stole" Chance's best friend, though, it's kind of true. Peter and JangMi went out for a year but mutually decided to break up because they felt like they were better as friends. The two are now like brother and sister.

Be Mine

Love Interest: Lee SungJong of Infinite

Personality: Contrary to the general consensus, SungJong is not actually a diva and his TV personality is completely different from his off-screen self. All the fame has gone to his head and now he's just so full of himself and arrogant. He thinks he's sitting on top of the world and that he has complete control of everything and everyone since he's just that popular. He wants to live his life out to the fullest so nothing can hold him back. He has no regrets.

How You Met: They were trainees together. JangMi would see SungJong in the dance studios practicing. At that time, he was such a hard worker and so down to earth. Despite his young face, he was matured beyond his years and she could look to him like an oppa even though she was older. However, after he debuted and Infinite skyrocketed to fame, he began to think that he was the best. His ego became huge and made him think he had authority over others. He used his sunbae title to his advantage over his hoobaes and his maknae title to get all the noonas. He knows just how to manipulate others. JangMi hates that so after he debuted, the two drifted apart and she tried to avoid him as much as possible. She wants nothing to do with her, but what she doesn't know is that she is his next target and when he's done with her, he can throw her out like every other noona he met.

[Back-up love interest goes there]

Back-up Love Interest: Jang DongWoo of Infinite

Personality: DongWoo's smile is the first thing that ever broke JangMi's tough facade when she became a trainee at Woolim. Even though she was resistant to his cheerful nature at first, one can't help but smile when one sees DongWoo's toothy grin so eventually JangMi cracked, too. DongWoo can get anyone to smile and/or laugh with his infectious personality. He's cheerful all the time but underneath it, he hides secrets that he can't let anyone else know. His insecurities rob him from being completely genuine but he's faked it enough times to make it look real. He lives to make others smile, even if it means that his smiles are fake.

How You Met: The two were trainees together and often met up at the dance studio by chance. JangMi was there because, as a composer but nature, dance is her weakest point and she felt she needed extra practice. DongWoo was there because, besides rapping, dancing his true love. Since the two practiced together, they got close. DongWoo would often give JangMi a few pointers to get better. Now, she has shaped herself to be an amazing dancer and is pretty good dancing freestyle as well. However, when DongWoo debuted with Infinite, she hardly got to see him anymore since he became too busy.

Status: Friends

Special Scenes?:

Love Rival: Peter of One Way

Personality: He's from Australia so he has an Aussie accent but he isn't afraid to make fun of it every once in a while. He doesn't care if people like he looks dumb. He has a strong sense of self-confidence that emanates from the "Western swag" attitude he got from Chance. Like JangMi, he has that tough exterior but he is still a little on the fluffy side, slightly more than JangMi. Imagine that JangMi is a bunny wearing an alligator costume and Peter is a fuzzy, cute teddy bear with a plastic knife. Both look kind of scary, but Peter is just more of a softy. Unlike JangMi, he's more expressive with his feelings. He blatantly shows that he cares for JangMi, that is, in a completely platonic, brotherly way. He smiles a lot but he still acts like he's cool. He won't admit that he's a softy. He'll just keep saying that he has swag and swag is not cute.

Special Scenes with Rival?: I guess SungJong can see Peter as a threat initially because they're so close. He's not jealous or anything but he just thinks that Peter will mess up all his plans to mess around with JangMi.
