Hangeng

What if I also commit suicide like the other Korean artists?” Until now, Sun Le, Han Geng’s manager could still remember how shocked he was when Han Geng said that to him. “I have known Han Geng for 16 years (2010) now. He is a quiet, reserved person who doesn’t express and doesn’t know how to express himself. But he was never a pessimist. As a friend, I was in great shock, and then felt heartache after hearing that from him.

Having to live with suicidal thoughts is absolutely horrible. Han Geng was to me, and others, a huge inspiration as he proved that you could make it through darker times. So please, rethink before saying something along the lines of “I want him back in SJ" or “He was selfish for leaving", because you’re basically saying you want him to go back to, and that it was wrong of him to leave, an environment that made him want to kill himself.

This man left his hometown at the age of 12 in order to pursue his dreams despite his family’s opposition to dance as an appropriate area of study for males. He lived off less than $2 USD a day, often having to get by with nothing but instant noodles for months, to the point that he broke his leg because his bones were weak from malnutrition. After graduating, he didn’t even have money to buy sheets. It was the only time he asked his mother for any money after finishing school, and it was only so that he could buy a sheet to sleep with on the floor. He went from having some hope and stability to having absolutely nothing multiple times because he would be told by SM that they were ready for him in Korea (and so he should quit whatever odd job he had and prepare to leave), only to receive another call after quitting his jobs saying that he could not come yet. This man would not have even made it past his teenage years if he was a pessimist. He was beat down by life relentlessly, but still always managed to get back up. If something was bothering him to the point of making him not find any joy or hope in life anymore, then it was serious. Please think twice before calling him selfish or weak for leaving SJ. Real strength often comes from knowing when and what to quit.

Hangeng was one of my favorite members. It hurt me to know this and I'm glad he is still with us today and doing much better.

I'm sad that he left and if course would want him to perform on stage with the others but knowing what he went through and now this makes me glad that he decided to leave

I glad he left S&M if it was making him feel like that. At least now his acting career is doing great
