Homouality and the Trend of Gender-bender Story

Homouality and the Trend of Gender-bender Story

This is purely an opinion, my opinion. You can disagree but do provide a logical reason to back it up. If you can’t, then we can just agree to disagree. It will include some personal stuffs but it shall not reflect the whole image of LGBT society. I’m just one gay girl being in love with Hwang Tiffany. The main idea of this blog is to help certain people-- As my friend kotenshi called as ‘confused Isabellas’-- to understand why others hate on gender-bender stories (in this case, female-to-male ones). But before you proceed further into the topic, please make sure you thoroughly comprehend these points below:

# Homouality (same- relationship) does and can exist in any part of the world, on people with any type of belief. This fact should not bother you if you want to continue reading, because there is no use for me to make a homophobic understand and I won’t waste my breath on it.

# Fanfiction realm does not pertain real people. No matter how a fanfiction writer would claim his/her story is written in fictional content or put a disclaimer or try to be smartass by giving you the meaning of the word ‘fanfiction’ from 945485684216567894622460 dictionaries, it still not allowed no matter what. None of these fanfiction writers ever formally asked permission from the person he/she writes about and have legal papers to back it up. If the person or the management company ever find out and feel any loss (public image, fame, etc) because of it, the fanfiction writer can get sued for libelous act. We. Can. Get. SUED.

# That brought me into the next point, nobody have any rights here. You, me, we, none of us have any rights to write about our unnir and oppar. NONE. It is just the lazy way dumb people validate their opinion and plot. When you hear someone says “LOL ~ It’s my right to write whatever s I want, deal with it!”, don’t bother to try and argue with these kind of people, they have the brain but half of it is dead.

Did you pass it? Then congratulation! Now let’s move to the real part of this blog.

I don’t understand the appeal of changing one’s gender in fanfictions (in SNSD, it’s usually TaeYulSooYoonHyo). Some said it is for the sake of the story, which will work out better if one of the couple is male. Which part?

Personality? Like 99% of the writers here are girls, I am one. Most of the time, girls write in a ‘girly’ way. Like -GIRLsGENERATION once said to me, we can actually know whether the writer is a girl or a boy just from the feeling we get while reading a story. Girls prioritize emotions; it’s just the basic of being female, while boys are more on the logical side. It is perfect when girls write about female character, but when it’s male character they unconsciously make him girlier than he should be. I can see why a guy like ShinyAvarice is so against gender-bender, the writer failed to make the girl-changed-to-boy as manly as ‘he’ should be and it’s annoying for male readers who know for sure how a male character should have acted. So on the writing point of view, changing the character’s gender is actually ruining the story itself.

Characterization? If I describe my character as “tall, tan, lanky girl with a massive appetite and witty personality, coming from the rich Choi family”, who will you imagine? SooYoung. If it is “pink-obsessed eye-smile princess from LA with kind heart but really bossy and scary when you messed up with her”, will you think of SeoHyun? No, it’s Tiffany. There are traits of this character that we immediately recognize and connect to the real person, that’s the disadvantage of making fanfiction of real people. So, who the is “Jessica’s boyfriend is the tall, tan boy with y abs and massive , all thanks to his regular exercising time” in a story tagged as YulSic? As far as I know, Kwon Yuri is a girl. I haven’t seen any bulge of a certain organ on her crotch, in any of her pictures or videos. It is not even YulSic, it’s Jessica with OC that shared most of Yuri’s traits (except the !) and sometimes name too, but still it’s not really Yuri. Then why did it get tagged as YulSic? Of course to get readers, ride along in the ship’s fame, and fool the kids.

Plot? What plot? “TaeYeon knocked Tiffany up after a random one night stand so they have to get married and deal with the baby”? You know, if the writer is really as imaginative he/she claimed to be or spare a bit time to make use of his/her brain, it should not be a big deal. Retain the originality of the character (her gender!) but make a believable situation in exchange. “It’s the world where girls can impregnate each other, one of their ovum will travel to the other’s uterus during ion (scissoring style!) and it merges then grows into fetus”, mpreg does exist so why not this fpreg? Other type of plot is usually easier to deal with. Too lazy writing about the whole “YoonHyun fight for their love because society is against homouality”? Then don’t. Make the ideal world where homouality is normal and everyone is okay with it. A cool character doesn’t have to be boy, girl can be cool too and a girl can look like a boy without having to change her gender. Take Amber as example, even I regularly mistake her as a boy due to her boyish look and style, but she is still a girl with s-- although it’s small in size-- and . The only real difference of male and female character is the ... So, it all comes down to ? Go google ‘’ or ‘strap-on’. “It’s fake! You can’t feel anything through a phallic object attached to your crotch!” If that’s so then why don’t write about a real guy idol with the girl idol? Because they are not the beloved ship? News flash! Gender-bender is not the real ship either! When it comes to , don’t call yourself a shipper of girlXgirl pair when you can’t stomach the idea of writing/reading girl on girl action. Or just don’t write/read ! But wait, if it’s not for the then what other reason left for making gender-bender? NOTHING.

Nobody have the rights to write stories about their favorite idols, let alone deliberately changing the gender, and not to mention it is disgusting to ever imagine the cute pretty squishy little TaeTae with a hanging on her crotch. No, just NO. Do one even allowed to call him/herself as fan of Girls’ Generation, GIRLS’ Generation, or any of its member, when he/she deliberately changes their gender in his/her fanfiction story? Their gender is the basic thing of their existence, the key of how their lives will play out, and the reason they are able to get in the group in the first place. If Tiffany was born as a boy named Stephan, he will never ever be in Girls’ Generation, period.

Now let me help you walk through my thinking process to see why I hate gender-bender.

I’m gay, not transgender or biual. It has taken years for me to fully make peace with myself. That I wouldn’t grow a no matter how hard I wished to have it back then. That I don’t need one to make a girl happy. That I can just be a girl loving another girl. It took me more than ten years since I first dated a girl and eighteen years since I first felt the attraction to women. So, yes, I am ing pissed when thoughtless people easily bend one of the SNSD pair gender in their stories. Do you know what gender-bender stories scream to me?

“HOMOUALITY DOESN’T EXIST!”

“HOMOUALITY CAN’T EXIST, IT’S UNACCEPTABLE!”

“ROMANTIC RELATIONSHIP IS ONLY BETWEEN A GUY AND A GIRL!”

“ONLY STRAIGHT RELATIONSHIP IS ACCEPTABLE!”

You, thoughtless writers claiming doing it as part of your freedom of imagination, are actually sending the big bold message of rejection to the confused gay and biual kids out there who thought they might find any similarity to their ‘abnormal’ condition through your supposed-to-be inspirational story.

Me? I don’t need more rejection and hate for being gay, especially from people I don’t even know. I’ll just say “guess what , I have gone through enough s for being gay. I don’t need a noob like you to come and smack whatever s you pulled out of your little and rub it on my face” then click the block button on the gender-bender writer’s profile. I’m not saying “let’s make a petition against gender-bender stories!”, it’s useless. Do not waste your energy by keep ranting about how wrong gender-bender is to the writers, they are either homophobic or haven’t grown over playing the “Barbie must marry Ken” game yet.

The best things you can do are IGNORE the stories and if you really hate it, BLOCK the writers.

Why ignore the stories? Like the saying, ignorance is bliss, it’s true. When you check the tag of your favorite girlXgirl pair and see gender-bender stories on the list? Don’t open it, not even to see how ty it is or to leave comment about how you hate it. If you opened it, you’ll add the view number and if you leave criticism, it’ll add the amount of comments. Criticism barely exists and does not treat well in AFF community. Even when you leave constructive criticism about how wrong gender-bender is, the writer will just brush it off with another “LOL it’s my rights”. Because like I said before, half of their brain is dead. But if you ignored thoroughly, they’ll slowly die on their own because not many readers care about their stories. I think the majority of readers already do this because the last time I checked on newly updated TaeNy stories, normal girlXgirl stories still get more attention than gender-bender ones, although who the writer is still play a big role in that.

Why block the writers? Blocking makes the blocked people unable to see anything of yours and they will not receive any notification for being blocked either. Maybe you are just a reader with no story or blog for others to check, or maybe you are a newbie writer with not-so-famous story others might not check yet, or maybe you are a famous one and everybody wants to be your friends. No matter which one you are, whether it is useless to block the gender-bender writers or not, blocking them have more impact to you than to them. By blocking them, you are saying “unlike you, I am mature enough to accept homouality” and you can be proud of it.

The gender-bender lovers said we are throwing blind hate at their creative creation. Well, they should pull their heads out of their asses first and realize that it is their so-called ‘creative’ creation that is laden with undertone hatred for homouality in the first place. LGBT people don’t judge straight people for being, well... Straight. So these gender-bender lovers don’t have any privileges either to tell us to deal with their hidden hatred for homouality in their stories and to not hate them for it. At least, we have reasonable grounds for hating it, unlike them and their close-minded mentality.

All Hail TaeNy~

I LOVE YOU SO MUCH!! I too am gay and I proudly announce I have my wifey~, my girlfriend, with the same as Tiffany of Girls' Generation. I also hate gender-bender stories but I have no idea why until this came up! I was once reading a story but then Tae is a man so I immediately stopped reading as I can literally feel my energy leaving me after I read the first sentence where I saw the name Taeyeon and 'he' connected together. I also hate gender-bender because why bend there gender when there own gender is already a big key point for your story and I think that it's more difficult writing a gender-bender one because you have to imagine what would your character do if it's gender is the opposite? What kind of thinking? and seriously pisses me off. I also cannot stand seeing Girls' Generation being photoshopped into a guy, I mean aren't they beautiful enough to be used as a character? or to play the role as the 'man' in relationships? For me, whenever I read a girlxgirl stories, I find it more amazing, deep, funny and just down right perfect. Because they can always joke that "okay whose the man of the relationship here?" or the writer could write, With that decided on, the 'man' in the relationships has decided to take there girlfriends to the amusement park to enjoy there free days. Doesn't that sound more appealing and really amusing to the readers? I also cannot imagine my wifey having something dangling from her crotch, NO just plain NO! Thank you for posting this :) It really helped me a lot ^-^

One word. Whoa. You seem to harbor a lot of dislike towards genderbender.

I get where you're coming from and I totally understand. People are in denial to accept the fact that the 'man' in their ship can never grow a, as you have put it, massive d!ck. Some shippers are, perhaps, too straight to understand that if they ship two girls or two guys together in a romantic highlight, that is naturally and is automatically perceived as homouality. I have nothing on gay people but respect, I admire their bravery because it takes a lot to become open and peaceful with oneself to admit his preference.

Anyway, back to the GB fanfics. Yeah. Disappointment is inevitable when I come across stories like these. As much as I personally would want Taeyeon's imaginary testes to secrete testosterone, I know it's never gonna happen. Not in a million years. The least writers can do is respect the ship AND the OTP's reproductive organs.

Btw, sorry for the late post. I just came across your blog post after weeks of not checking my friends' blogs. lol. This is a pretty long comment, yes? Like I said before, I'm a silent reader but when I post a comment, I post A LOT. lol. I hope you, somehow, enjoyed reading this comment. XD

I couldn't agree more. I haven't been reading or writing long and so I realize I don't have as much say as others, but Gender Benders are just wrong and very offensive to gay ppl like myself!

Very well expressed. I love the way you think and it's good that you managed to get your opinion out there.
I acknowledge your opinion and agree with it. Thanks for speaking up for the many others who I assume would feel the same way :)

Okay after reading your rant twice I can see why you're upset. I guess I would be a little hurt to but you know what...I'd get over it and just read normal TaeNy fics that aren't gender bender. Yes, yes I'm well aware there's a lot of them now a days but what can you do? Nothing. I don't like gender bender's to be honest just not my thing.

I joined the kpop fandom not too long ago because of my friends. snsd caught my attention and since then I've been trying to find more things about them. That's how I found this site and I've been reading taeny fiction when I have time. I never read genderbender, maybe because I find it hard to picture Taeyeon as a man. I do agree that she is handsome and boyish at times but changing her gender is just too wrong for me. And it somehow gives me the feeling that taeny can only be a couple if either of them is a man. And it's sad to see how there's tons of genderbender nowadays.
