Most of them uses like photoshopcs5 or photoshopcs6 maybe 7 lol. But I can't download it, because it's so hard so I just use this editor that is literally all in Chinese and I use paint.net lol

honestly if you wanted photoshop just to make posters I would say get photoshop elements like. 7. cause really you only need pscs6 if making graphics is what you do for a living. it's super advanced and over double the price of pse

I know also if you buy a wacom tablet it often comes with pse which is awesome cause these types of tablets are amazing for editing.

and the cheapest is under $100 last time I checked

but like the other said. gimp is free just figure out how to use it and your good to go

Most graphic designers use photoshopCS6. It's the latest version. (it's not free, very heavy software and could possible make your computer crash. But the reason why it's popular is cuz it's AMAAAAAAAAAAZING.)
I used to have it until it stopped working. (there's a thing called "portable version of Photoshop CS6. Downloadable. Free, i think.)

Now I use GIMP ^^ GIMP is like photoshop, except not that advanced. it's a lot more easier to understand and use than photoshop though. and it's free. bla bla bla.

i started making posters really recently (and most of them --) but i'm learning :D
i could give you some threads on AFF which teach you how to make posters on PS and GIMP ^^
