family background:

Born in Korea, raised in Japan, Soah knows Japan like the back of her hand but can't say the same for Korea. Soah comes from a wealthy family consisting of only two members, her father and her. She doesn't have a mother and is an only child. Because of this fact she was pampered from a young age and never denied anything. Maybe that's one of the reason why Soah can never take 'NO' for an answer. Despite having led such luxurious lifestyle, Soah is not some spoiled brat. Part of it has to do from the proper ideals her father instilled in her since young age and part of it is because she is just the way she is. Though she didn't have a mother, her father never made her feel that she was lacking one. He played both roles to the best of his limits and Soah loves him for that. She lived in Japan till the age of 7, then transferred to the States where she spent the next 8 years of her life before finally returning back to Korea for permanent settlement.

Her mother died while giving birth to Soah, so she has only known about her through photos and what she heard from her father and her relatives. Her mother was a very famous violinist and in order to get closer to her late mother, she took up violin. She tried to follow in her footsteps taking music and even getting admitted to a prestigious school just to feel closer to her mother. She was happy with the violin but there would be times where she felt that something was missing. When her father told her that her decision was selfish, that she was only thinking about herself, forcing herself to follow in her late mother's footsteps just to get to know her a bit more; he told her that her mother would have been sad about the fact that she made Soah miss her that badly, it was only then that Soah realized what was wrong with her. That's when Soah decided to give up on being so obsessed with the violin, but then another problem arose, what was she to do now?

One of a kind ~ Eye smiles shaped like crescent moons, laughter that comes out more as snorts, her bright smile that creates a dimple right at the corner of her lips, Yong Soah can be defined as the autumn breeze, warm yet chilling. It's hard to put a finger on her character. There are so many sides of her, it's difficult to keep track of it all. Friendly but definitely not a people person. Shy and reserved but a chatterbox when she starts talking. Caring of other's feelings yet apathetic. Forgets but never forgiving. She's never what she seems to be. She's that one person who's always doodling on her note all by herself while the others are huddled in a group talking about the latest gossip. That one who likes to breathe in the smell of mud the moment it starts to rain while others complain about getting wet on their way home. The one whom her classmates know as Yong Soah and nothing more. All in all, she's bold, loud, reckless, uncaring, a bit difficult at times but also a total introvert, modest, passive, frank, mood-killer and a bit wacky around the edges.

I don't care ~ Soah doesn't like bothering with things of any kind. Say she sees a person dropping a $10 note unknowingly, she won't tell that person but she won't take it either. She'll just think "Ah! That person dropped it." and be on her merry way. Blunt and straight forward, Soah is very pessimistic in nature. She has a hard time looking at the brighter side. She doesn't candy coat her words. She doesn't put lipstick on a pig. She'll just tell the truth as it is and expect the person to handle it, completely uncaring of the fact that she's just shaken their whole world apart. She won't tell her friend that the guy was an idiot to dump her and that she'll find an even better person. She'll just tell them to stop weeping and moping like a damned damsel in distress and move on. But she'll also be that same person to punch the living daylights out of that guy for making her friend cry. Surprisingly despite her indifferent attitude, she has a heavy conscience. If she feels that she's wronged or been unjust with her actions to someone, she won't be able to rest at all. She'll only feel at peace once that burden is off her chest. Soah hates discrimination, be it on race, gender, status or any basis. She treats everyone equally from a child to an elder and expects the same treatment from others. Her blood boils when someone tells her that she can't do it because 'She's a girl.' So like a stubborn bull, even if it kills her, she'll prove them wrong.

Poker Face ~ Soah has a hard time expressing her emotions. Maybe that's why she has a blank face almost all the time. The problem is, she feels that if she were to open up her heart, everyone would know what she's thinking, what she's feeling and this exactly is what scares her. She feels vulnerable; and raw to the very core and this is exactly why she doesn't associate much with other people. It's not about creating an air of mystery. She doesn't give a damn about her image. She just finds solace in her own company, and that's all there is to it. This works as a double-edged sword, while it leaves her safe from others, it also renders her completely devoid of any social skills at all. If there's any way to make a conversation even awkward-er, just add Soah to the mix. You can actually hear the crickets chirp. Despite her passive nature, her words are absolute. Once she says something, it has to be done or else be prepared to face the consequences. Not many have had to face the latter part because more than half of them have been her maids and the other reason is she can work quite an intimidating stare. For a fragile body like hers, she sure can carry thrice her weight.

trainee history:

It was her stupid friend's even stupid-er idea. They were in a mall where Soah and her friend had visited the electronic store to buy a new cell for herself. Suddenly one of Soah's favorite song appeared on the TV on display. Her friend urged her to sing it. Soah was too conscious of the crowd and the strangers who'd look at her, so she refused But her friends kept on insisting, so before she could become deaf at the tender age of 16, she sang. The moment she held the mike, she completely forgot everything else and confidently sang it to her heart's content. Unbeknownst to her, a small crowd had gathered among which one was an SM scout. When he approached her, she politely refused his offer. She had no interest in running in high heels on stage just to entertain a crowd of hyperventilating people. But somehow he found her place and kept on visiting her every day trying to convince her to join. She told him that she'd file a restraining order against him if he did not stop bothering her. He asked her to just try being a trainee for a month, she wouldn't even have to join, just to get to know what it would feel like and then he wouldn't bother her ever again. Seeing no harm in it, she accepted that offer.

At first she found it really troublesome. 2 hours of training meant 2 hours less for sleeping, eating, watching telly and everything else she could think of. Slowly she found that it was not that bad but she wasn't motivated to join either. It happened when she over-heard one of the trainees talking about her, gossiping among themselves that the newbie could never make it. That was the deciding factor. When she told her father about her decision to become an idol, he did everything he could think of to deter her from that profession; the very fact that it was a spur-on-the-moment didn't help either. No matter what he said, her decision was firm so sadly he had to support her when she became an official trainee.

Life as a trainee was very hard. She thought it had to be even harsher than being an idol. The competition was always fierce, everyone so tight-sprung, countless of them all hoping to achieve that same goal. Friendship was a rare bond, there were only alliances; one would stay out of the other's way if he did the same too. It was hard to tell whom you could trust to not tattle away. Soah survived through all this by staying alone, never confiding in anyone else besides herself. She kept to herself and gave it her all. Often times she found herself wondering how the SM idols managed to act cute and bubbly on-screen all the time after having gone through this. She'd always keep on telling herself 'Just a bit more.' Eventually she improved, her vocal range started expanding, her body didn't look stiff while dancing, she started getting noticed, the trainers would make sure to give her a hint or two after the practice. She started to get chosen for competitions, the teachers would pay her extra attention and before she knew it, she was already being considered up next for debut.

how they met:

SHINee once held a fan-signing event in a mall where a lot of crowd had gathered. The event was on the ground floor but Soah had come to the 3rd floor so there were fewer people here than below. Just when she turned around the corner, she bumped into someone which caused him to drop his things. Apologizing Soah helped him to it pick up but when she looked at his face, she was a bit weirded out. It was the middle of summer yet that guy was wearing a black hoodie, black mask, black sunglasses. He was draped in all black. She was about to run away when he abruptly held her hand and asked her the direction for a particular store. Soah recognized it as the same one she was on her way to and told him he could come join her if he wanted to. Just then the guy was about to say something, when a girl screamed "OMO JONGHYUN OPPA!" Soah was confused, what was he doing here when his fans were down there? And before she could blink her eyes, what people were there, mostly the girls, had immediately whipped out their camera and clicking like crazy. Before she could even register what had happened, he'd took off like a rocket dragging her away with him with the all the while with the crowd behind their back. When they'd finally manage to lose them by occupying a small cramped closet, she'd whacked him on his head, asking him what he was thinking dragging her away like that.

Jonghyun had thought she'd spazz upon seeing who she just had been so privileged enough to hold hands with but that didn't seem to be the case. Part amused, part drained, he had unknowingly unleashed his jerk behavior, forgetting for a moment that it should not be known by the public. When he looked at her after realizing his mistake, he was even more surprised when she gave him another whack on the head and told him "That's not what you say to someone after you've ruined their evening." and went on her merry way. It was then that Jonghyun realized she didn't know him at all.

how they act around each other:

They didn't get off on a good start, that's for sure. She was surprised by his two-faced attitude, one moment, he would be all sweet and respectful and the next he'd be cold and callous with his words. Unfortunately Soah's always been on the receiving end of the latter. Whenever they meet, no matter how much Soah tries to avoid it, they end up bickering like kids, only in private. He has this uncanny knack of being able to bring out the worst in her, he just knows the right buttons to push to get out the desired reaction. And maybe it's because he always pays such close attention to her, he can easily detect the slight changes in her moods, her behavior; as for her, at times when he behaves extra rude or extra harsh, she easily knows that something went wrong and despite never wanting to admit it out loud that both of them care, she sits next to him and says, 'Tell me. I'll listen.' And that's all it takes for him to fall all over again, though he keeps telling himself he's just intrigued! The only way he knows how to call her, 'Oi, Soah!'

how they met:

Kai always noticed that lone light in the 5th floor of the training rooms. He always noticed that one lone figure practicing their dance day by day. Once he was on his way back to the dorms when he realized that he'd forgotten his iPod back in the training hall. He'd rushed back to the room only to find Soah whimpering in pain while trying to accomplish a split. Unable to control himself, he had burst out laughing which alarmed Soah to his presence. He apologized about his behavior and to make it up to her, he told her he'd help her with the split. Part miffed, part embarrassed and part annoyed, she'd said 'No' but he kept on standing there so she had to accept his help if she wanted him gone. Surprisingly Soah found out that he was a very good teacher and she was able to do the split within the next 5 minutes.

how they act around each other:

Kai acts arrogant, like the whole world belongs to him and they know it. And this attitude is what makes Soah keep on raising her eyebrows at him. But then, he also knows the right thing to say to make her laugh or tickle her funny bone. With him she feels raw, like he can see straight through her and yet she isn't afraid because somehow she knows that he won't harm her. Kai's always grateful to her that she sees him for who he is, not what others expect him to be. Soah's never been one who cared much for what the society thought. So she finds in perfectly normal when he backhugs her or she pats her shoulder and asks him to rest his head there, though these come out of the blue.

question/comments: Could you adjust Jonghyun's age? I don't know make it around 20-ish. And if I happen to have the smallest age in the whole group, can I be considered for the maknae position without having to alter my age? Other than that, I don't think I have any questions. I like the concept of the story you're using. Not like every SM fics that's debuting a new girlgroup but instead introducing them as a family member. So far I like where it's going. scene requests: Soah and Jonghyun once again get into an argument and this time Jonghyun thinks about pranking her, so her starts screaming 'Frogs!' pointing in a random direction behind her. He wanted Soah screaming and jumping but what he didn't expect was for her to jump into his arms and hug him to death asking him to save her. The incident leaves him baffled and his wits definitely scrambled
