Onstage personality:

Jen appears very self-confident on stage, almost to the point of being cocky. She knows what she can do and isn’t afraid to show it, drawing people’s attention to herself. She is very straightforward and blunt in both interviews and when meeting people. These traits have led to people calling her a diva and she plays up that reputation. However, her diva-like behavior is mostly for show and her true personality shows through when she gets to talk about dancing or food. Years of modeling have made her confident with her looks and taught her how to appear y in more subtle ways. She puts these skills to use when on stage and teases the audiences (and fellow group members) with looks and poses that can be interpreted as suggestive. She has no problems with fan service of any kind and she likes skinship. When they’re performing Jen and Jinwoo can put on quite a show when they feel like it (to the point of Andy having a talk with them about what’s okay and what should stay in the practice room).
Off stage personality:

Off stage Jennifer is more relaxed and humble and appears easier to approach than her on stage persona. This comes as a surprise to many people who meet her off stage for the first time but those who have known her for a longer time are aware of the difference. She still feels confident about her skills but she doesn’t flaunt them like she does on stage. If she gets complimented because of something she did she is thankful but she doesn’t seek others attention or approval.

Jennifer’s determination and hard-working nature also come through more clearly off-stage. Those around her can see how much work she puts into something she really wants. She also appreciates the efforts others put into their work. Unfortunately at times her determination turns into stubbornness and it can be hard to make her change her mind even if she knows the others might be right. Sometimes she just has to do things her way and fail before giving in and accepting the alternative.

One thing that doesn’t change in Jennifer’s personality is her straightforwardness. She is just as blunt on and off stage which leads to some people consider her rude and that impression isn’t helped by her occasional blunders in Korean. At times she may offend someone but when that happens she isn’t beyond apologizing for her words or actions especially when she knows she was the one being wrong.

Background:

Jennifer has been interested in music and dance since childhood. Her musicality comes from her mother’s side of family. One of her uncle’s is a session musician and her mother used to sing in the choir when she was young. She has always liked performing but the thought of making it a career only occurred to her after the family moved to Korea where she was exposed to various idol groups. When she was fifteen she went to various auditions and got accepted at JYP. She stayed in the company for 18 months but when it seemed like she wasn’t getting any closer to a debut she decided to quit. After quitting Jennifer took a break and focused on her studies and got back to modeling but after about six months she came to the conclusion that the call of stage was too strong to resist. This time she decided to audition for a smaller company and got accepted by DSP a few months after she had turned seventeen.

Father | Cho Sungmin | 53 | IT-consultant | died of heart attack in 2010 | Sungmin was a hard-working man who took his work and duties seriously. He always encouraged his children to work hard for their dreams but also thought that getting a proper education was important. When he wasn’t working he tried to spend time with his children and be involved in their lives to the best of his abilities. Sometimes he spoiled his children to make up for not being there. | Jennifer got along with his father well and she always liked to show off her skills for him when he had the time to watch. She appreciates the support and advice she got from him when she was making decisions about her career. Seeing how hard her father worked was always an inspiration for Jennifer although when she was younger she sometimes was upset about how much he worked.

She has always encouraged her children to try different things and has tried to teach them to be open-minded and tolerant. Although she is usually quite lenient with her children she can be strict when she has to and when the children were young she made sure they didn’t get completely spoiled by their father. | Jennifer and Mary used to be close but they started to drift apart after Jennifer decided to go through a second round of auditions. She had seen the effects of training and going to school on her daughter and she didn’t think it was good for her. She is someone who will keep her word and will be there for her friends when they need her. | Aerin is the person Jennifer goes to whenever she needs someone to talk to and she’s Jennifer’s closest female friend in Korea. Although Aerin is thoughtful and considerate she’s also the person who knocks Jennifer back to the ground if it seems the fame is getting to her and Jennifer appreciates it. He’s the one to make the atmosphere lighter with his words or antics. Although he can be very silly at times he takes his work seriously and his professionalism shows when he’s working. | Having been on the same agency for a long time Hyunjoong and Jennifer have grown close and Hyunjoong signing with KeyEast didn’t change anything. Hyunjoong brings out the silly side in Jennifer and they can act quite strange when together. Because of their age difference and Hyunjoong’s longer career Jennifer looks up to him and if she has some idol-life related problems she knows she can go and ask Hyunjoong for advice. They’re almost like siblings considering how they act around each other.

Friend | Jang Geun Suk | 25 | Actor | Geun Suk is very outspoken about his opinions and he doesn’t really care what other people think about it. He likes to have a good time and isn’t afraid to show his confidence and at times he may come off as cocky. You could say he’s bit of a bad boy instead of a sweet guy-next-door. | Geun Suk and Jennifer got introduced by Taehyun. They’re more like party buddies but partying isn’t the only thing they do together. Because they both are outspoken they end up arguing about things at times but it's never anything too serious. Considering their personalities (and liking for parties) it’s a miracle they haven’t end up causing any major scandal yet.

Personality:

Soohyun is talkative and energetic and at times others may find his energy to be a little too much. he can get a little too excited about things and he’s probably the one in the group who likes fanservice the most. He tries to keep the others from doing anything too silly but eventually he ends up getting involved in it. That maybe isn’t so surprising considering the fact he used to be the class clown in school. He likes to poke fun at the others but does it in a nice way.

Even if Soohyun comes off little silly at times he takes his role as the leader of U-KISS seriously. When there is some trouble he gets everyone together to solve the issues. He has a lot of determination and he is well organized although it may not always seem like it because of his silly side. Soohyun is protective of his loved ones and when it comes to dating he’s quite a gentleman.

How they act with you:

In the beginning Soohyun acts more polite and tries to keep from getting over excited about things. That is mostly due to the fact that Soohyun and Jennifer don’t really know each other. Prior to the show their contact has been limited to a few meetings and short conversations backstage during promotions and show recordings. As the show goes on Soohyun and Jennifer get more comfortable around each other and start to show some skinship. Eventually Soohyun even starts to a little.

How you behave around them:

At first Jennifer is quite awkward with Soohyun which is very out of character for her. That’s mostly due to the general awkwardness she has in situations where someone younger than her is actually her senior in the industry. The situation probably isn’t helped by the fact that Jennifer does find Soohyun attractive (and possible boyfriend material but she won’t be admitting it to anyone else anytime soon). Ryeowook is a gentle, sweet and caring guy; he likes to cook for his group mates for example. He’s also sensitive and cries easily but when the other members , he kind of brushes it off. In varieties and other public appearances he’s actually quite lively and talkative. Once you get to know he’s more talkative and outgoing kind of person with some little quirky habits to boot.

How they act with you:

Ryeowook is a little wary of Jennifer and some of that wariness remains even as they get to know each other better. Actually Ryoewook might be little intimidated by her personality and behaviour which probably is a little different from what's expected of a Korean girl. The one place where he seems to be completely at ease with Jennifer is when they're cooking together in the kitchen. Because of his caring and sweet nature Ryeowook does his best to treat Jennifer well even if she sometimes makes him feel uncomfortable. He does let her know when thatt happens and hopes she listens and respects his wishes and boundaries.

How you behave around them:

Jennifer acts like her usual self around Ryeowook right from the start. If she notices that something she does bothers Ryeowook she tries to refrain from doing it again because she doesn't want to make the situation anymore awkward than it already is. However, she might ask him why whatever she did made him fell awkward or uncomfortable. To be honest Jennifer finds Ryeowook very interesting and would like to get to know him better and to get closer to him. She's not going to be stopped or discouraged by his wariness or anything else.

Lee Taehyun | 27 | Actor, Model | Taehyun can be a little hotheaded at times but he’s not one to hold grudges for a long time. He’s very dedicated when it comes to work and achieving his goals and he admittedly does have a competitive streak. He’s also a private person who doesn’t like to talk about his private life public. | They’re still on friendly terms with each other which is a good thing considering they occasionally get picked to do photo shoots or commercials together. Sometimes they meet outside of work too through mutual friends and they keep an eye on how the other one is doing in their career. | The main reason for their break-up was the lack of time. They had trouble to find time for meetings even before Taehyun’s career took off in a big way and after that the scheduling issues just grew worse. Breaking up was a mutual decision they made after talking things through. | 15 months

Kang Younghwa (Andy) | 26 | Leader and main rapper of Starlight | Friendly and caring guy who doesn’t worry too much about things out of his control. Although he’s quite laid-back he takes his job seriously and can keep everyone in line. | They were a little awkward after the break-up but now they’re back to bickering and teasing each other (like a married couple according to the other members). But it’s all in good humor, nothing serious. They try to avoid too much skinship because it still sparks the speculations about the nature of their relationship. | After the photo of them together in a café was released they were followed by the paparazzi even more than usual. Jennifer: Jennifer doesn't mind Hana's clingyness because of her liking for skinship. It actually makes her happy that Hana likes to be close to her but at times she wonders if it's maybe too much and tries to get the girl to do things on her own. When Hana throws a tantrum she's at a loss about what to do because she doesn't really have much experience about being around children. She is a little inconsistent with discipline but she tries her best. Jennifer finds it quite hard to say no to Hana because of her aegyo and that at times leads to Hana asking her if she can do or get something. Hana likes spending time with Jennifer and often tries to get the older one to payattention to her.

Soohyun: Soohyn probably has more experience about children because he has two sisters. Hana takes an almost instant liking to the silly guy who can act like a kid and he is her favorite parent. This, although Soohyun is the person who tries to set some limits to her and isn't quite so easy to fool with aegyo. She just likes the way he makes her laugh and Soohyun can get her to calm down quickly. Soohyun and Hana have a good relationship and he might just be her favorite oppa of all time.

Ryeowook: Hana had Ryeowook from the moment he saw her smile for the first time. You could almost say she has both of her parents wrapped around her little finger and she doesn't really have a favorite between Ryeowook and Jennifer. Ryeowook adores the girl and always tries to make sure everything's fine with her. He's also the one who can get her to calm down easier when she's upset. One of Hana's favorite things is to sit on Ryeowook's lap and listen to him sing or read to her. That is why she tries to please Ryeowook.
