At Midnight

The night was cold, and the wind was brisk as Yeongwon’s maknae made her way across the desolate roof top. The roof top was her safe haven, it was one of the few places she could go to escape the blaring music of the after party. The SM family has just completed their SM TOWN concert in Seoul, and they decided to celebrate, but sadly the young maknae of the SM family didn’t feel the same way.

Her schedule today was anything but pleasant.  She was rushed to various places without any given warning. Not to mention the traffic accident that caused her driver to take another route, and get lost. That made her extremely late to her next schedule, which in turn she got scolded for. And to top it all off a concert / after party! She was not happy at all.

As she reached the balcony she released an exasperated sigh.  Hyunjae rubbed her two hands together and blew a warm breath as a futile attempt to keep her hands from freezing.  Her warm breath was clearly visible, and her face was obviously upset. As she was about to shiver, a pair of strong arms encircled her delicate frame. As those arms released her, she noticed a warm, shiny (SHINee ;O) leather jacket on top of her shoulders.

“You DO know it is freezing up here right?” Hyunjae quickly turned her head, and came face to face with the one and only Kim Jongin.

“I know, but I didn’t have a jacket.” Hyunjae looked at her hoobae curiously. “Why are you up here Jongin oppa?”

 “Am I not allowed to be here?” Jongin shook his head and made a disapproving ‘tsk tsk’. “Your unnies are going to be upset once they find out their little ‘Jaestar’ got sick because she forgot her jacket.”

Hyunjae smiled once he mentioned her unnies. (Cause you LOVE us so <3), but her smile didn’t last for long. She former frown quickly took the place of her smile.  Jongin of course, took notice immediately. He tilted his head in curiosity.

“What’s wrong?” he inquired earnestly.

“Nothing Jongin Oppa.” Hyunjae then directed her attention towards the cityscape she was looking at before EXO’s dancing machine appeared.

“You sure?” Jongin specially made sure he was blocking her view for added effect.

“Yeah, I just had a bad day.” Replied Hyunjae wearily as she mentally recalled her unpleasant day. The day just didn’t go very well for her. Nothing went according to plan. It was a miracle that the SM TOWN concert managed to go on without a hitch.

Jongin sensing how she didn’t want to talk about it didn’t inquire further. He did however; still want to make her feel better. He wanted to see her brilliant smile that her unnies smothered her for. (with LOVE)  That smile that made her famous, at least to him anyways, and as far as he is concerned that was all that mattered at the moment.

“Hyunjae-ah, do you know what happens when the clock strikes twelve?”

Hyunjae raises her eyebrow in curiosity. “What happens?”

Jongin smirked confidently as he answered. “Everything becomes normal again, and a new day starts.”

Hyunjae blinked three times. Her lips slowly curled up into a smile, and she started to laugh uncontrollably. “Jongin oppa, you do know that in Cinderella that is a bad thing right?”

Jongin’s eyes grew wide with disbelief. It was almost comparable to his Kyungsoo hyung. “Really?!”

Yeongwon’s maknae who was still laughing nodded.

“Aish… you have got to be kidding me.” He scratched his head, wondering how he was going to get out of this embarrassing situation. “Well you know what I mean…a new day and yeah…things getting better…”his sentence trailed as he covered his face with his hands to prevent further awkwardness.

“Nice try though.”

“Don’t talk about it.” After a long pause.

“Jongin oppa.”

“Yeah?”

“Komawo.” Once those words were spoken, Jongin completely forgot about his previous Disney fumble. The effect she had on him was enormous, but there was no way he was going to let her know. Well not anytime soon anyways. He checked his watch.

12:09

“Can’t tell her yet.” He mumbled to himself.

“What did you say oppa?”

“At least you know today started out great.”

“Why is that?”

“The first thing you see is my gorgeous face, what else?” joked Jongin playfully.

“Yah! Kkamjong!”

“Hey! What happened to Jongin oppa?!”

And that is how her day ended and began…
