　Haengbok is your annoying little sister that you probably didn't ask for and want to choke lowkey but love anyways. her constant energy can be tiring but you better get used to it because its not going anywhere. the only time she'll shut up is when she's really tired or really sad. her default emotion is happy but she feels other emotions very strongly for a short amount of time. if she's upset for a long time then it must've really got to her. she’s very passive since she doesn’t like commotion. also because she’s painfully slow witted.

she’s a creative and clumsy person and that combo never ends well. she has great ideas but doesn’t know how to execute them well so it usually ends up blowing up in her face. but it’s ok! that doesn’t mean she’d give up, her optimism won’t allow her to!

Haengbok sees the good side to everything and everyone, she encourages all her friends and is known for her motivational speeches that are along the lines of wtf is she saying and aww thats sweet. she has a bad habit of trusting everyone too easily since the people of her town are so nice she expects everyone else to be the same. she often rambles on and on when she talks and accidentally saying her own secrets or somebody elses like an idiot. then she'll catch herself and try to convince the person that she didn't say what she just said. she's also blunt and will tell you the honest truth but will somehow sugarcoat it at the end so it doesn't sound as bad. for example, if you ask her how you look today knowing you don't look as good as usual, she'll probably say "well your face is bloated and you kind of look ugly, but its ok! beauty is in the eye of the beeholder!" sometimes her honesty can hurt but its better than lying.

even though she's a dumbo she's really loyal and will stand by her beliefs even if its proved wrong because she's stubborn like that. it'll take a lot for her to change her mind about something, even her nonsense beliefs that are obviously not true but her superstition remains. her friend can say the sky is red and it's obviously blue but she'll still say its red because her friend said it and her friend wouldn't lie to her. the same goes for her determination, when she wants something she goes for it no matter what.

surprisingly despite seeming like the biggest airhead in the palace she's actually really good at math and can calculate how far something is just by looking at it and do math equations in her head with ease since she often has to calculate in her head at work. her way of thinking is outside the box and creative, she can actually be effortlessly strategic when you least expect it. some of her plans are pure gold and you just question how such a mess of a girl could come up with something so elbaroate out of the blue. which makes you think that maybe she's not an idiot, maybe she's actually a genius.

Haengbok was born at home in Jeju, but for some reason while Haengbok came out perfectly healthy, her mom wasn't so lucky and passed away soon after naming her. So Haengbok was left to be raised with her dad. 

As a fisherman, he spent most of his day at sea or at least on the docks. Since his wife was no longer around he had to adjust and he didn't trust anyone to take care of Haengbok while he was at work. He already lost his wife so he refused to lose his daughter too. Instead of getting a babysitter he used a cloth sling to keep her on his back while he went to work or had a little cushion for her to lay on if his back was hurting too much. By the end of the day both of them went home smelling like fish.

As Haengbok grew, she got used to the fish smell, she barely noticed it was there after a while but it was a source of bullying by other kids. Fish girl is what they called her, since the stench usually followed her around. Despite it being a fishing town and almost everyone having a parent that worked in the fishing industry, kids will be kids.

By the time she was 2 she was helping at the docks in any way she can and at 3 she already knew how to cast a fishing rod correctly and caught her first fish. By 5 she was a seasoned worker at the docks and everyone knew guppy that wanted to help everyone. 

She didn't have many friends growing up, it didn't help that her dad was very protective and wanted her by his side constantly. But Jeju was known for their women haenyeo that started training at 11. Usually moms trained their daughters and Haengbok was excited to start training and finally have a mother figure in her life. But instead of accepting her with open arms they didn't want to teach her because they saw her as a strange outcast. They had to teach their own daughters, they didn't want to teach her too.

Haengbok was hurt but at the docks the next day she realized that all the dock workers that accepted her as their own since she was little were like her family and she didn't need friends her age or a mother figure. 

Her whole life Haengbok spent working with her dad as a fisherwoman. Everyday was the same and she loved every second of it. She was the best daughter her dad could ask for. She never rebelled, whenever he was sick he was there to help and she cooked yummy meals for the dock workers sometimes.

As she got older she got noticed by the men at the docks, some that wanted to ask for her hand in marriage. Her dad refused to let them even get near her romantically. He was yet to find someone worth someone like his daughter, he also was far from ready to let her go. Taekyun had to convince him to let her enter the competition.

　— since she has to lift heavy things sometimes she is abnormally strong. don't let her tiny body fool you, sometimes she doesn't know her own strength.
     — she’s a hard sleeper and sleeps all over the place
    — she’s had two boyfriends before, one when she was 5 that was a local boy but he only dated her as a prank. and then she dated a fish when she was 7 because she decided that fish were better than people so she declared that fish as her boyfriend because everytime she was out on the boat it came to see her. but sadly the fish died and it was delicious.
    — she can’t be trusted with money, she spends it on useless things that are cute
     — she loves making friendship bracelets out of shells
    — she talks to inanimate objects a little too often when she’s upset
　— she asks way too many questions and is always in everyone's business because girl is nosy as hell
     — she’s a very good swimmer
    — she is afraid of sleeping alone since she sleeps in the same bed as her dad since she was little
     — she gets up with sunrise
   — she’s a huge skinship lover and has a hard time noticing boundaries
　— she's never seen snow before 

WHEN YOU FIRST FOUND OUT THAT YOU'D BEEN ENTERED IN THE BEAUTY CONTEST, HOW DID YOU FEEL? 
　— I was like, me? A beauty contest? I thought all the beautiful girls were in the capital, I never thought someone like me could even qualify. Whenever the guys here tell me that I'm pretty I think they're just trying to make me smitten so I can give them extra fish to sell or cook them a meal. But I truly was flattered! Appa said I was red like a tomato.' 

HOW DO YOU THINK YOU RATED IN THE INTELLIGENCE CONTEST? 
　— 'Hm, the contest was a little hard. I'd be surprised if I did well at all. I didn't know so many people could read, especially women, I thought that was a man thing. Well, a men-outside-of-Jeju thing. Most the folk I know can't read neither. But I'm excited to learn! Maybe if I learn I can teach everyone at home too! Wouldn't that be cool if we can talk to fish someday? Well, I guess it would actually be heartbreaking to hear them pleading to be spared... sorry, what was the question again?"

NOW THAT IT'S BEEN ANNOUNCED THAT YOU'RE ONE OF THE LADIES CHOSEN, HOW ARE YOU FEELING? 
　— 'I'm over the moon! I thought the intelligence contest got me for sure. I was ready to pack my bag and go back to the fish! But seriously, thank you for choosing me. I promise I won't let you down and I'll make Jeju proud!"

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE YOU'D LIKE THE SUBJECTS OF THIS EMPIRE TO KNOW ABOUT YOU? 
　— "Well, I know Jeju might seem so out of touch with everyone else but we sure do have our charm! I can cook good and fish like a pro! I can also clean pretty good, especially clothes. Trust me, scrubbing out fish guts is no easy job but these hands work wonders! So if you have some seriously dirty laundry or a back that needs some serious scrubbing, I'm your girl! I don't have any of those fancy combat skills but I do think I'd be good at archery, it's basically like spear fishing right?

　— hiya hiya hiyaaaa! Here is my baby girl Haengbok! I hope she's good enough. I can't resist a historical story, there aren't many so thank you for coming up with this idea!

　— Haengbok sees a girl with makeup and asks how she gets her lips so red. Once she learns about makeup she tries to do her own and looks like a hot mess.
