hangil's life was normal until it wasn't. the only son of choi jihan and yeo yedam, he was a hyperactive kid. the couple was young but happy and made ends meet the best they could. but jihan wasn't stupid, she watched him come home later than usual, how he turned his phone screen down all the time, seemed more distant. it didn't take long for her to catch them in the act, watched from across the street in the pouring rain as he kissed her goodnight in front of her apartment complex. any normal person would just leave, maybe even stay. but jihan wasn't normal. if she couldn't have yedam no one could and she made sure of it.

hangil had no idea what his parents were going through until jihan confronted him and they had a big fight. in his room hangil was covering his ears to block the arguing until he heard a loud thump followed by silence. when he went to the living room, five year old hangil saw his mom stand over his dad, he lay in a pool of blood, knife in his mothers hand.

"is appa ok?" hangil hiccuped from the crying he was doing in the room.

he'd never forget the look in his mothers eyes, she was shaking with rage. a look that he'd never seen before but would see more often from now on.

"oh yohan, don't cry, he tried to hurt me. he tried to hurt mommy. he was going to leave us for another woman. you'd never leave me right?"

jihan crouched down to eye level, bloody hands cupping hangil's cheeks and wiping his tears away as he shook his head. 

"promise?"

they pinky swore and kissed the other side of their hands to seal the deal. 

"good, now hold this while mommy cleans up."

jihan placed the blood soaked knife in hangil's hand. Complaining about the mess yedam made as she vigorously cleaned the blood. hangil slowly stepped closer, holding in his sobs as he looked down at his deceased dad. 103 stab wounds riddled his body unrecognizable. that was the first time hangil saw a dead body, and the last time he would cry over it.

throughout the next 8 years of his life, jihan would kill 26 men. she lured married  men, those who didn't bite the bait were safe, but those who did didn't deserve a place on earth. for all of them hangil was there, helping her carryout her plan. sometimes she'd instruct him to stab them himself. she wanted him to know how it felt to take life away from someone, from bad people.

when he turned 13, she got caught. the cops raided their apartment in the middle of the night. hangil didn't understand why they arrested her, she was helping people, ridding the world of lies and cheats. he was kicking and screaming, cursing at the police as they took her away. thanks to the juvenile act, hangil was exempt from criminal punishment, instead sent to a juvenile reformatory where he reaped hell. as for his mother, all the dead bodies were found in their backyard garden, including hangil's dad. she showed no remorse during trial and got sentenced the death penalty. since korea has not carried out an execution since December 30, 1997, she reamains as on of the 59 prisoners on death row.

the story was famous in korea, some even praised her efforts, she was known as a real life gwisin. though many people were unaware of hangil's part in the story. the media kept the 13 year old out of headlines as much as they could. but rikyeong knew, it didn't take long for him to find out what detention center he was staying at either.

"are you sure you want this one? he a hot head, only been here three months and got written up more than anyone else."

"he's perfect."

with the help of a crooked inside man, hangil was in the hands of rikyeong soon after. name changed to ran kyungsik and trained to put all that anger into becoming the perfect hitman. in the hell hounds he found his new family, a new purpose. and he'd rather die than lose that again.

 

 

Crimes committed: hangil has been committing crimes since he was 6 years old. he skipped the little things like petty theft and went straight to murder; stabbing, strangulation, torture, he's dabbled in all the subsections.
