EXPANDED hanjae is a fun loving boy who just wants to have a good time and for everyone to be happy. it's like he has a never ending timer full of energy. even when he's exhausted from work he still has a smile on his face at the end. he tries to findthe joy in every little thing he does even if it's hard. he is probably the least judgemental person you could ever meet. you can literally pick your nose in front of his and he wouldn't even mind, because who doesn't do a little digging for gold once in a while.
being the extrovert that he is, he loves making new friends and being around people. he can start a conversation with anyone, even the homeless person near the subway. he loves learning new things and will ask an endless amount of questions out if curiosity. His conversations tend to jump to many topics, that's also why people think he likes them because he can talk to anyone. They telll him all their business since he seems so trustworthy, that's how he knows all the office tea.
if he trusts someone then he would believe them blindly. if you're his friend, which he considers anyone that he said hi to at least 3 times a friend, then he'll care for you no matter what and defend you if you need it. He can be a doormat in that way, could never say no and constantly wanting to be on people's good side. He's all about making others comfortable, having fun and keeping the peace.
with all this childlike energy, he can actually be kind of wild too. like they say, curiosity killed the cat, and he's felt the backfire of his curious nature more than once. when theres a challenege or an activity taking place, he's the first to jump in and participate even if he knows he'll fail because yolo. he's always down for a random adventure and gets distracted easily because of his short attention span.
since he wants to do well he works extra hard and pays attention to detail. He might even stay later doing others work. Such a people pleaser that he rather be unhappy and be hurt than see others that way. He puts a lot of emphasis on keeping face and making his family proud that he's hiding the biggest part of himself.
he's also a big crybaby. he cries hella fast like when he sees others crying but then gets over it quickly once he gets distracted by soemthing. like cake! he loves strawberry short cake! he would always be there for his friends and family when they're sad, and cries along with them too.
he can be explosive, especially when people mess with his friends. he's quick to stand up in front of someone and defend his close ones, usually speaking loudly with his country accent or letting out a high pitched "yaaa!!" he usually doesn't hold a gudge so he gets over anger quickly and is quick to forgive others.
he has a sassy side that comes out when he gets upset or jokingly with woohyun, he would make a sassy and passive aggressive remark. overall, hanjae is a bright boy who honestly just trying his best to spread happiness and rainbows in this cruel world.
BACKGROUND hanjae is the younger son of hwan jaebeom and Kim haram, a one time affair after the divorce of her first love and ex husband. He has an older half brother of 3 years that is the beloved son that couldn't do any wrong. he was the little trouble maker of the family. his brother was well behaved but hanjae was loud and a prankster. he stirred a lot of trouble for his mom that was just trying to make ends meet on her own.
he always made his friends laugh during class, teachers constantly complained that he kept disrupting the class. in middle school his teacher recommended sending him to an international school because he didn't concentrate well in a traditional korean school environment. he didn't do well with studying so much and staying such long hours. since his grades were bad his mom transferred him but international school wasn't free so his mom had to work two jobs to pay for it. after a while she couldn't keep up with the expenses so she had to reach out to jaebeom to pay for it, which she only hated ever more. their relationship after hanjae's birth was nonexistent other than dropping off hanjae to spend time with this father on holidays.
at least he did do better at international school though because they were more lenient. he saw an improvement in his grades and even joined the school soccer team. but while hanjae lived nonchalantly, his mom expected his brother hyunseong to get a good job and support her. he was at the top of his class so his future was looking bright. basically he was the picture perfect son with an idiot brother like hanjae. but that all changed in hanjae's last year of middle school. his brother passed away in a car crash on his way from his college entrance exam. he was so excited to run home and tell their mom how well it went he didn't see the uncoming car. he could've been saved if the driver helped him but they lived in a semi secluded area and it was a hit and run so he laid there for almost an hour before being discovered.
it was a tragic death for the family, right when hyunseong's life was going to start it was over. hanjae saw the dispair in his mom, even his optimism and upbeat attitude couldn't help. it only got worse for him because all she did was nag at him and complain, he knew she felt that it should've been hanjae instead. his brother worked and gave all the money to his parents, it was just a part time job but it still helped give them more pocket money. hanjae spent all his on hanging out with friends after school. though with his brother gone they didn't have the extra money anymore hanjae saw her struggle to pay for rent. he knew that she didn't have as much hope in him as she did in hyunseong but he wanted to prove to them that he too could give them a happier future and finally repay all the burden he gave her.
hanjae didn't change much but he put a lot more effort than before once he entered highschool. still the happy class clown that everyone knew and loved but he actually took time to study and get good grades. he wanted to get a good grades so he can get into a good college, and get a good job so his mom can be proud of him. he succeeded too, he ended up in the top 5 every year of highschool and got into sungkyunkwan university for business.
college was so much harder than highschool, his grades slipped but he told his parents otherwise. after highschool he struggled to get a job because of his bad grades. he worked a bunch of part time jobs to contribute to the rent but his mom kept comparing him to his brother. they knew if hyunseong was still alive they would be living nicely by now. no matter how hard hyunjae tried they didn't see it, they just saw that they were stuck with the worse option for a son.
after college he got an apartment with his college friend. he also got him a job at his gaming company as a marketing associate. after 2 years he became an assistant marketing manager because of how well he got along with everyone and his work ethic. while working he even got his masters degree to climb up the corporate ladder. in 2021 instead of getting a bonus he got offered the position of manager of marketing, the job he has now. he gladly accepted and his mom is finally kind of proud of him for making a decent amount of money, the last thing he wants to do is disappoint her.

ROUTINE hanjae wakes up at 7:30am to make it to work by 9am. He isn't a morning person but sometimes he'd wake up earlier to jog with woohyun, something he does everyday because he's insane. He drives to work with woohyun and works until 6pm. Most of the time he stays longer when there's a lot to be done or deadlines are approaching. Those days the company provides dinner but during the regular work hours him and woohyun go home together and woohyun makes dinner. Unless changhyuk asks him to hang out after work. On Wednesday at 8pm is soccer practice day. Hanjae is the captain so he has to be there, even if he has to go back to work after. On fridays the whole company goes out for dinner and drinks then karaoke sometimes. Hanjae is known as the party boy so he basically had to go everytime to keep his image. Usually the bosses want him there anyways. He goes home drunk with woohyun picking him up most of the time and the next morning he makes hangover soup for him.
On weekends hanjae likes to relax and spend time with Woohyun but once again Changhyuk invades his life a little too often. They do like to plan dates on the weekends though outside of Seoul so they can be themselves for once.
CURRENT LIVING SITUATION He lives in a condo in Seoul with woohyun. They have a three bedroom two bathroom just to make it seem like they sleep in their own rooms but they actually share a room. They have a nice balcony with a couch and table with a view of Han river. They two small dogs, a maltipoo named Zzar and a black poodle named Toben.
SECRET His roommate that everyone knows and loves is actually his boyfriend, even worse, he wants to propose.

He tried to convince her to move to Seoul but she is a stubborn woman.

He made hanjae feel comfortable with his uality, comfortable enough to hook up with each other. They were friends with benefits for a few months and talked once in a while but they never dated. They actually stopped talking around his senior year until they bumped into each other in the street after hanjae graduated. He told him his struggles and that he was living in a goshiwon, woohyun lived in a large apartment with two bedrooms so he let hanjae live there and helped him get a job at zenivity.
it was supposed to be a temporary thing but instead living everyday together and working together, they ended up falling back into their old fwb habits and eventually fell in love. But they're dating in secret, everyone knows them as best friends and roommates. Woohyun is protective over hanjae, always watching over him trying not to have hearts in his eyes. He's more quiet and the manly type. He thinks everything he does is cute, especially when other girls try to flirt with him because he knows he'll be in his bed later. He doesn't get how others don't know he's a .
Woohyun has no problem with his uality, his parents knew and they loved him anyways. Which is why he never understood why hanjae couldn't tell his parents about them. He knows it's against company policy to date a fellow employee but woohyun is willing to lose his job for hanjae. But hanjae has more to lose. He isn't an in demand software engineer like woohyun that makes way more money than he ever would. he went through so much to finally get his moms approval, the last thing he wants to do is ruin that again. But woohyun is just tired of hiding.

He does think woohyun is a buzz kill though and doesn't get why hanjae doesn't just live alone already.

Everyone in the family gets a chuseok postcard from him woohyun and the doggos dressed up in traditional wear. Every year it's a different outfit and backdrop.
HALLOWEEN the company usually has a Halloween party and contest and so far hanjae has won three years in a row. He takes Halloween very seriously and decorates the whole office with fake spider webs and Halloween deco. All the fam gets a Halloween postcard!
CHRISTMAS basically the same as Halloween he is seriously about decorations. Not just in the office but at home too. They do secret Santa and everyone always hopes they get hanjae as theirs because he goes all out. He spends his Christmas holiday with family again, makes sure to give everyone their gifts before new years. Don't forget the Christmas postcard from the fam to the fam!
NEW YEAR'S he might party or he might light up fireworks with woohyun but either way he finds a way to celebrate the new year. No post card for this one folks.
