negative; Slow witted, impulsive, dismissive
Gonsik didn’t change much from when he was younger. He’s still the vivacious clown that doesn’t mind making a fool out of himself for laughs. He’s someone that’s all over the place, both physically and mentally. Physically he hates staying indoors and loves thrill seeking things. He likes his job because he thinks he’s doing something good and it’s exciting. He wants to have a cause that’ll help the greater good and doesn’t mind putting his blood sweat and tears into something he believes in. But mentally he doesn’t come up with the best ideas, he does things on an impulse that aren’t the smartest. His loyalty makes him blindly follow people and jump to conclusions or immediately believe what they say without questioning it.
From young to now everyone knows Gonsik, a people person. Even the people that owe him money, he says “sorry I have to do this but you’re one too many payments overdue” before trashing the place. Beating someone up is a last resort, he rather mess up their things than the person. Even after doing that he’d feed a stray cat or buy from a local business. Some think with a job like that he doesn’t have a conscience but he does. He knows what’s right and wrong but he’s just easily swayed.
He’s a very playful person that cracks a lot of jokes. He doesn’t like the mood being low, even with a bloody nose he’d make a joke out of the situation and still laugh about it. He doesn’t want to talk about serious things, life is too serious let’s just enjoy the good parts. But this side of him also causes him to make jokes out of more serious manners. He holds in any hardships he’s going through and his true feelings. There’s very few that he opens up to. Any anger he feels he’d take it out physically, whether it’s through work or by working out, maybe even on himself.
His loyalty actually stems from abandonment issues. Everyone he cared about left him so when he finds someone that’s there for him he pledges his loyalty to them no matter what. Yet it stops him from being vulnerable because he doesn’t want to get to that point and they leave. Nothing hurts more than that.
- He still visits his parents grave once every few month
- The idea of having a family scares him because he doesn’t know if he’d be a good father
- Sekyung really wants to have a baby soon though because she’s not getting any younger
- He has a big sweet tooth
- He never went to college
- He’s a big fan of Sana and knows all the twice songs. His ringtone is cheer up
- He actually enjoys cooking and is a little chef out here

He was a happy kid, the outgoing class clown that made everyone smile and had a bunch of friends. Even for his mom that found it hard to smile, Gonsik always found a way to make her happy. A bright kid born into the wrong family. Since Gonsik was so likable he was never a victim of the bullying that happened between Eden and haesol students even though he was a haesol kid himself. He’d actually stop some bullying from happening sometimes when he could. He became friends with Hwabyeol in middle school, they were in the same class and she honestly found him annoying with his antics that would interrupt class. Though one of her bullies liked him so whenever he was around she left her alone. Whenever he saw her getting teased he’d try to casually go over there and stop it. Sometimes he’d walk her home too and if he saw her sitting alone during lunch or in between classes he’d go over and talk to her. Though she found him annoying most of the time. Oddly enough Gonsik was intrigued by the only person that didn’t care much for him, she stood out to him because of that. That’s why he wanted to protect her and be there for her.
In highschool Gonsik started fighting back to his dad, never trying to hurt him but just defending himself or his mom from his rage. His smoking habit started when he was 16 and sometimes after a long night he’d smoke a cigarette in front of his building or go for a walk at night. He ran into Hwabyeol who snatched the cigarette out of his hand and made sure to tell him it was a disgusting habit to have. As soon as he saw her he smiled which contrasted his appearance with his busted lip. Hwabyeol didn’t need to ask what happened, she could already tell. Instead of going home he followed Hwabyeol to a party she got called to by her bullies, the same girls from middle school. When they arrived together she gave Hwabyeol a dirty look but he made sure to say that he saw her on the street and decided to follow her himself.
They saw each other more often those nights, Hwabyeol realized that he tend to have a bruise in a different place. She saw him differently after a while, the happy attitude he put on was a façade. She was the only one he opened up to about his situation and vice versa, she also became his voice of reason and scolded him whenever he did dumb things. But he liked seeing her get all riled up and caring for him. It became sometimes they both looked forward to, they would talk about everything and anything and sometimes go to game cafes or karaoke. But it was just between them, in school they went back to their acquaintances status like they didn’t have a 3-hour deep talk session the night before. Their relationship bloomed to being more than friends after a while, they both developed crushes on each other and they were each other’s first kiss. But hwabyeol couldn’t date her bully’s crush, they would torture her so she never allowed herself to fully fall for him. After the kiss it was kind of awkward actually, hwabyeol didn’t meet him outside anymore and he was worried that he went too far.
The next thing Gonsik hated the most after his dads drunken rage was seeing Hwabyeol get pushed around by those bullies. When she told him about the things they’d make her do he would grind his teeth. That’s why sometimes he’d go with her because he knew her bully would act different since she liked him. Since hwabyeol wasn’t talking to him he at least thought he could help her with that. To hwabyeol it looked like they started dating out of nowhere, she came to school the next day and suddenly they were holding hands and being romantic. Of course when he saw Hwabyeol he felt bad but it was for her own good. It looked like Gonsik got into the wrong crowd, he started partying and drinking with the Eden kids. Sekyung acted completely different when he was around and when he wasn’t. Hwabyeol felt betrayed though when he was around they weren’t as cruel to her. Hwabyeol never gave him a chance to explain that it was all for her he did this, he loved her not Sekyung but everytime he tried she walked away or avoided him. The person he could confide in was gone, he didn’t want to tell Sekyung about it so instead he used alcohol, drugs and partying to distract him from it.
His relationship with Sekyung lasted longer than he ever thought. Gonsik didn’t do well in the college entrance exam and didn’t know what he wanted to study anyways so he went straight to the military after highschool. While he was in the military he got the news of his parents passing. After a short investigation, they ruled it as a suicide and homicide saying that his father killed his mother in a drunken rage then killed himself. Neighbors said they heard screaming and ruckus late at night, it wasn’t uncommon coming from that apartment. But knowing the cops they wouldn’t look into it much further for some Haesol villagers. Gonsik felt guilty, the one time he wasn’t there to protect his mom that happened. For a long time he blamed himself.
When he got out of the military Sekyung got him a job working for her mother who owned a well known bank that many people used in Haesol. Her mom, Huina, welcomed him with open arms. Gave him a job and brought him an apartment fully paid off. Gonsik was thankful for her kindness, but Sekyung had no idea what her mom really did. On the outside she owned a bank, but in reality all the bank did was make the poor poorer and the rich richer. They gave struggling businesses and families loans with high interest rates that they could never pay back, and she assigned Gonsik as one of her loan sharks. Gonsik started off small more as an assistant that caused havoc on small businesses but throughout the years he raised in the ranks and can now go on runs by himself. When workers in Haesol see him they fear him due to his reputation of threatening, beating up and destroying the property of those that owe the bank money. But Huina and Sekyung have been more of a family to him than anyone, his loyalty is on the good side…right?

kim taeyeon | 34 | old friend | Gonsik hasn’t seen Hwabyeol since highschool graduation. He was his voice of reason, a good friend he could count on but They didn’t end on good terms. he still thinks about her, thinks about how she’s doing… if she’s dating anyone. He wants to explain himself to her someday, it’s been over 10 years but he still has feelings for her. Is that even possible? He’s still whipped for her, if she asked him to do something he’d jump to it. He’d want to see her as much as he can, not show her that violent side of him that he has to show for his job. But he doesn’t know how it’ll go, seeing her again. Especially now that she’s the village representative and he’s a village menace.
