every group has that one member thats really loud and dramatic and all over the place. some might call him the 4d member and some might call him annoying but either way thats dongbin! he's outgoing and messy and sometimes does very questionable things but that's whats makes him so lovable.

what you see is what you get with him. he's a straightforward person, if he doesn't like you, he'll tell you. if you're boring af, he'll tell you. he doesn't shy away from confrontation and is always up for a good debate will stand his ground when he has to. he can be a stubborn person and when he makes his mind up about something he can't easily be swayed. he likes to be right and prove people wrong. before people's opinion's used to affect him but now he only looks at if he's satisfied and if the people he cares about are okay. so he's quite confident in himself and doesn't take hate comments seriously. he's actually the type to call out antis and comments during live streams, for s too. 

his whole life he's been a good kid and done exactly what his dad said, even getting told what to do everyday at boarding school, but now he's over it and wants to live his life the way he wants and just have fun. so he really doesn't have a care in the world about what other people say. since going to boarding school he's very dilligent, especially when it comes to something he's passionate about. people would never guess that he's so hardworking since he can be childish and plays around a lot during practice. thats just because he doesn't believe everything should be all work and no play. it might seem like he doesn't take anything seriously but when it comes to his work he's very serious and precised about it. although he's definitely that one member to be rolling on the floor during dance practice.

idols usually act like their perfect and don't have any flaws but not him. he would smoke while skateboaridng on his way to a schedule and curse during a live stream, he really doesn't care. like at all. he doesn't believe in having to be perfect all the time and likes to show the imperfect side of s, especially the more beautiful ones. so his instagram consists of ugly pictures of s and embarrassing moments. he persuades the maknae to bring up funny moments and eggs him on. he's really active and doesn't like sitting around and doing nothing. he often gets bored easily and goes from one thing to another which makes him unpredictable because no one can guess what kind of crazy idea he'll come up with. p.s. 80% of them are either stupid or risky. he got scolded by the staff at mcountdown more than once for trying to skateboard down the railing of the stairs or casually stealing the snack table.

he wants to do what he wants when he wants to and will probably be the first one to do something stupid without thinking about the consequences. but thats just how he is. he's unapologetically himself and many people don't understand that. not everyone likes this side of him though, especially conservative people. he can be argumentative since he values his freedom and doesn't like being told what to do. he isn't afraid to fight for what he believes in and say his opinion no matter the circumstances. it's like he's missing the filter than people have in their brain to stop them from saying stupid things. but thats just him, take it or leave it.

even though he's a daredevil and willing to try basically anything once. he gets startled easily and lets out a high pitch scream at scary movies. take him to a haunted house and he's clinging to the person next to him. his default mood is usually happy or excited. but he's moody and can go from 0 to 100 really quickly. he has a temper and is ready to fight at any second. when someone disrespects him or s or anyone he cares about he will throw hands so someone hold him back!!1!

he's the only child but always wanted siblings and thats how he sees eclipse. once he cares he's really caring and will scream at you for losing one pound because how dare you get skinny on his watch! he's clingy and cuddly to them and likes to kiss their cheeks. he would be there for any of his friends in a heartbeat and expects the same. he gets deeply offended when they reject his skinship and remembers it later on. he can be sarcastic and sassy and will point out something you did 5 years ago because he's petty like that. he's just a mess. love him or hate him he doesn't care because either way he's gonna have fun and speak his truth.

dongbin was born into a musical family. he's the first child of the famous taiwanese singer chou haoran. his mom isn't a singer but she has a beautiful voice too. dongbin was born a year after haoran debuted. his mom is his high school sweetheart both young only 22 years old at the time and dongbin was the result of a night full of too much fun. that same year his dad rose to fame and he saw him less and less. his parents relationship was kept a secret from the public and so was dongbin since his career was just starting. dongbin lived his life as a regular kid and no one knew his father was a famous singer.

dongbin's parents were never married but in his mind they were one happy family even with his dad going away so often. but kids only see whats on the surface and he didn't actually know that his dad was cheating on his mom left and right with other celebrities while she waited for him to come back from touring. though his dad was constantly traveling and barely home he still made sure to spend time with dongbin when he could. he was a mamas boy but he just adored his dad too, he couldn't do anything wrong in his eyes. his dad let fame get to his head and forgot about his family back in taipei. but to dongbin, he was his hero and wanted to be just like him.

dongbin was singing since the moment he can talk. even before that he would babble along to songs. from a young age he knew he wanted to be a singer just like his dad and looked up to him. he satisfied his creative streak by taking dance lessons on the weekends and he was a theater kid at school. he was popular among the other theater kids for his outgoing personality and beautiful voice. they were all sure that he'd be famous someday and encouraged him to audition for a company and he was determined to as well but first he had to ask the man whose opinion mattered the most to him, his father.

dongbin grew aware of his uality when he was 14. he was a heartthrob among the other theater girls but some questioned if he was straight. he had many girls falling for him and dated some of them but he never kissed them. dongbin just thought he was uninterested until a new kid joined his class and it was love as first sight for him. it was the first time he felt his heart palpitated for another human being and it was a boy. it was a really confusing time since he felt like no one would understand him. he told his mom who accepted him and said she loves him no matter what and he planeed on telling his dad too when he came back home for a week.

that week haoran helped dongbin pick a song for his audition for an entertainment company and helped him practice too. he thought dongbin had an amazing voice and if he wanted to be a singer then he would support him. but later that day at dinner, dongbin came out to his father and the mood completely shifted. he only worried about himself, saying it would look bad if the public found out his son was gay and that dongbin was selfish for not thinking about how it would affect his career. he said an openly gay singer would never be accepted. even going as far as calling him disgusting.

dongbin was devestated and needless to say he didn't audition that week. he didn't hear from his dad for a while after that and was left thinking that something was wrong with him and he was the problem. a few months later his dad took him on vacation to america. the last day they went on a school tour and after that dongbin was stuck in america for the next 4 years. well not literally but basically.

his dad somehow got him accepted into a strict catholic boarding school without his knowledge, he thought that it would make him more manly. his mom didn't even know about it. it was then that dongbin started to hate his father. he's actually glad that he went to boarding school because he finally saw his dads true colors. he realized that he wasn't the problem, his dad is just a selfish prick, not the great man that he once thought he was. he even found out about the multiple flings he had while still dating his mom online.

boarding school was tiring and out of his element but it helped him become the person he is today and made him more determined than ever to do everything his dad told him not to. and the first step was becoming a singer.

dongbin joined sm after graduating highschool in june 2019, he auditioned during the spring time and got in that summer. right after graduation he flew to korea to join them instead of going to college. his timing wasn't the best because wayv just debuted that same year, he would've fit perfectly but they weren't thinking of adding new members anytime soon. he actually didn't know kpop companies were so picky and strict, so he got in trouble often for the dumbest things like leaving the dorms to get food or not showing up to practice on time. it's not like he didn't know his stuff anyways. he's surprised he lasted a year at sm, even more surprised that they didn't kick him out earlier. he was talented though, his theatre past helped him a lot when it came to performing and he was good actor too. just a pain in the offstage. dongbin was a close contender to be the newest members of nct along with sungchan and shotaro but they didn't choose him for whatever reason. he didn't want to wait any longer so he left not in the summer of 2020 and dal media scooped him right up instead. their plans on debuting a group soon was enough to get him on board.

dongbin's parents had no idea that he was an idol this whole time. that was until dal media decided to promote dongbin in china. the first show he was in his dad was there as a special guest and to say he was stunned is an understatement. after filming they argued backstage and a staff member filmed it and put it on social media with muted audio though. so no one knew what they were talking about but it was obviously arguing. since the video went viral in china they have to explain what that was. but i'll leave the rest up to you.
