Hyunjoo is that one kid in elementary school that gets her hand glued to her face. That basically describes her whole personality. She's a fun loving girl who just wants to have a good time and for everyone to be happy. It's like she has a never ending timer full of energy. Even when she's exhausted from practicing or performing she still has a smile on her face at the end. She is a strong believer of doing what you love and finds the joy in every little thing. She is probably the least judgemental person you could ever meet. You can literally pick your nose in front of her and she wouldn't even mind, because who doesn't do a little digging for gold once in a while.

Being the extrovert that she is, she loves making new friends and being around people. She can start a conversation with absolutely anyone, even the homeless person near the subway. Sometimes she talks a little too much that it becomes rambling, and you might even tune out but she'll probably keep talking anyways. She loves learning new things and will ask an endless amount of questions to the point where its almost annoying. Many people might find her annoying at first but once they get to know her they'll learn that she's actually just a child at heart and honestly kind of clueless. She doesn't mean to be annoying, she's just hella nosy and doesn't even realize that she's annoying people. Which can make her seem inconsiderate at times. Even if you tell her a lie that's obviously a lie, she'll probably take your word for it and believe you anyways, that's how much she trusts people. If you're her friend, which she considers anyone that she said hi to at least 3 times a friend, then she'll care for you no matter what and defend you if you need it. She's extra caring to her close friends to the point where she'll even baby them sometimes and check up on them like a mom. You might think of her nicely feeding her friend but no, I mean like her chasing you with food because you didn't eat and screaming at you to take care of yourself. 

With all this childlike energy, she can actually be kind of wild too. Like they say, curiosity killed the cat, and she's felt the backfire of her curious nature more than once. She would randomly disappear and talk to new people or touch things she's not supposed to. She's always down for a random adventure and will gladly drag her friends with her. Instead of paying attention she'll be spinning on her chair having the time of her life all by herself or bother her friends instead by squishing their . But when theres a challenege or an activity taking place, she's the first to jump in and participate even if she knows she'll fail because yolo. Her loud, dramatic and over the top ways are both a good and bad thing during broadcast, its interesting to watch her dynamics with the hosts and contestants but some people might find her annoying.

But such a bubbly and innocent personality also has its bad side. Hyunjoo is an open book and she thinks that naturally other people are too, but this obviously isnt the case. She has nothing to hide and will answer you truthfully no matter what the question is. But her constant blabbing actually leads her to reveal others secrets as well and she'll usually quickly cover with her hand once she realizes what she did. She's also blunt and will tell you the honest truth but will somehow sugarcoat it at the end so it doesn't sound as bad. For example, if you ask her how you look today knowing you don't look as good as usual, she'll probably say "well your face is bloated and you kind of look ugly, but its ok! beauty is in the eye of the beeholder!" Sometimes her honesty can hurt but its better than lying... right? The only thing she's currently hiding is her uality and she honestly hates talking about that because she gets so awkward so instead she rather change the subject or casually skip away when it comes up in a conversation.

Being an estp, Hyunjoo isn't the best when it comes to dealing with emotions. She would always be there for her friends and family when they're sad, but usually her advice is straightforward instead of empathetic. She actually isn't in tune with her own feelings either, she prefers to ignore them and be happy. But one feeling she can't ignore is anger, she can be quite explosive, especially when people mess with her friends. She's quick to stand up in front of someone and defend her close ones, usually speaking loudly with her country accent or letting out a high pitched "YAAA!!" She isn't very passive and will speak up if she disagrees with something but won't be rude about it. You'll probably never see her cry, instead she'd be comforting others. And she usually doesn't hold a gudge so she gets over anger quickly and is quick to forgive others.

Overall, Hyunjoo is a bright girl who honestly just trying her best to spread happiness and rainbows in this cruel world.

Background

One day, high school sweethearts Hyeongseok and Jooyeon were taking a midnight drive to the beach to watch the sunset. Next thing you know, one thing led to another, and Hyunjoo was born nine months later, and three minutes later, Joohyun was born. Even though the two were an accident, their parents couldn't be any more happy about the two girls. Jooyeon was only 19 when she gave birth to the twins, and Hyeongseok was 20. Her parents didn't approve of the situation, or her clumsy boyfriend so they kicked her out and the family of four ended up living with Hyeongseok's mother. Both parents missed out on the opportunity of college and Hyeongseok had to work multiple jobs. The family wasn't well off but they were happy in their situation even if it wasn't the most comfortable.

About a few years later, Jonghyeong was born. They didn't know that feeding three mouths isntead of two would be such a financial burden, so as soon as they were all old enough to go to school, Jooyeon found work. At the age of 7, Hyunjoo was already a little adult, walking with her sister hand in hand to school and picking up her brother from kingergarten afterschool so they can all walk together. The three kids were known around the small neighborhood and beloved by the elders for how independent they were. Since it was a tight knit community and many knew the family from church, the adults in the town would look after the three. Especially with Hyunjoo's curious and talkative nature, she would talk to anyone who appraoched her, but since they were well known, thankfully someone was always there to shoo away the shady old men.

Even when they got home, Hyunjoo would pester her siblings to do their homework before their parents and grandma got home. Honestly, her parents feel bad for giving so much responsibilty to such a young child, but they always made sure to have family when they got home no matter how tired they were. Which made the situation seem not as bad.

By the age of 10, Hyunjoo was helping her dad with the fishing, her grandma at the fishmarket, and even her mom at the restaurant. The family started to make a little more money because of Jooyeon's restuarant business and amazing cooking. But that didn't stop Hyunjoo from having a lot of responsibilities. Her dream was actually to become a fisherman like her father up until she turned 12.

One Saturday afternoon, Hyunjoo was watching TV with her dad, and next thing you know, the most beautiful man she's ever seen popped up on TV. It turned out his name was Byun Baekhyun and he was in a group called Exo. She barely listened to music then, but as soon as she saw Growl on TV she became obsessed. She learned the song, the dance, and even got their album for her birthday. One time, she wanted to show off her new moves to her friend and did the Growl dance for them, next thing you know she was surrounded by a crowd and people were clapping for her. At that point she realized she wanted to be an idol. She loved the excitement of performing in front of so many people and the praise she got afterwards made it even better. From then on, she joined the church choir, and was singing everywhere she went.

Even her classmates knew her as the future idol because she would sing so often. They even enouraged her to auditioned. But even though she loved the idea of being an idol, her family needed her and she couldn't just suddenly move miles away to Seoul. Her parents and grandma even supported her but they knew she was holding back for them. So when Hyunjoo was 16, her family took a trip to Seoul where she was soon scouted by SuperX Entertainment. Hyunjoo was both surprised and happy but her goal was SM Entertainment. After auditioning for SM, Hyunjoo soon got accepted. But for some reason she thought about SuperX Entertainment, and how they noticed her out of everyone in the crowded streets of Seoul and took it as a message from god. After a few days of deliberation, Hyunjoo decided to accept SuperX's offer and became a trainee in early 2018.

Hyunjoo tells her grandma everything and she’s one of the most precious people in the world to Hyunjoo. She actually gets her cheerful nature from her but don't mess with her, she can be ruthless when she wants to. She was Paradox's biggest supporter, she even went to their performances a few times to cheer Hyunjoo on. Everytime she came she wore a penguin hat and Hyunjoo's fans would call her Pengjumma. She always supports all her grandchildren but Hyunjoo is lowkey her favorite. When Paradox debuted, Grandma song was the first to complain about her lack of screentime but she still tried to encourage Hyunjoo either way. She even confronted SuperX's CEO about it and demanded her talented granddaughter get more screentime but sadly it didn't do much. After Hyunjoo got fired, she found out about Produce Angel and encouraged Hyunjoo to go on it so she can shine like the star she knows she is. If they do her wrong too best believe she'll show up to set. The only thing she hasn't told her is her uality or the other reason she got kicked out of Paradox in fear of disappointing her.

For some reason, Hyeongseok lowkey knew all the dances and isn't ashamed to do them with Hyunjoo fans that spot him in the street. Jooyeon's restaurant is full of Paradox and Spade pictures, penguin plushies and is quite popular with the fans of the groups despite being in Tongyeong. She's looking forward to putting up pictures from Produce Angel too and would be happy to treat the contestants and staff to free food.

When he tries to act cool in front of the ladies Hyunjoo always comes and ruins it by treating him like a little kid. They actually bicker more than Joohyun and Hyunjoo but it never lasts long. Jonghyeong got into dancing because of Hyunjoo and became a trainee for a year before debuting in a boy group called Spade in late 2021. Her fans support him a lot,  he actually really looks up to Hyunjoo so she wants to be a good role model.

Hyunjoo doesn't talk to anyone in Paradox anymore. Either way Hyunjoo considered all of them friends and was there for them when they were going through something. After Hyunjoo left, no one was there for her when she was going through it though.

Hyunjoo and Chaesun were the closest in Paradox. They were the top ship in the group, Chaejoo, and were attached to the hip. Hyunjoo started liking her but was afraid the feelings wouldn't be reciprocated so she kept it to herself for a while until she just decided to go for it and kiss her and she actually didn't pull away. A year into debut they started dating secretly, they would sneak away from the group to steal a kiss backstage and did a lot of skinship on camera. But to fans it was normal because they always did that so no one had a clue. They got discovered by her uncle kissing in the practice room when they were practicing together one night. He was so pissed that he dragged her away and when she got back to the dorm room she didn't say anything to Hyunjoo. Hyunjoo doesn't know what was said but since that moment Chaesun became really distant and barely talked to her. Not even a week later Hyunjoo's contract was terminated and SuperX released a statement that she has health issues. Chaesun wasn't even in the dorm when she packed her stuff to leave, and when she checked KakaoTalk she was blocked.

When Hyunjoo meets Sooan she gets blown away by her dancing skills and thinks she's really cool. Throughout the show they become good friends, their outgoing personalities makes them a hot mess when they come together. They were the two in the background of a scene doing weird things and bursting out laughing or playing pranks on the staff and other contestants. As the show goes on and Sooan starts going through a hard time, Hyunjoo is always there for her making sure to drag her away from the practice when she practices too much or fall asleep in the practice room while she practices at night. If Sooan calls or is going through a hard time Hyunjoo will literally run to her like her life depends on it and speak out to those who say bad things about her. Everytime Sooan calls herself ugly or cries over hate comments Hyunjoo gets mad and screams telling her how amazing and beautiful she is gdi. She develops feelings and wants to confess but part of her still fears it'll be another Chaesun situation. 

Connection to the kpop industry

Hyunjoo trained at SuperX entertainment for two years before debuting in 2020. Hyunjoo was quite popular as a trainee. Not only among the other trainees but also staff. The staff loved the bright girl, she would always greet everyone with a bright smile at 6am and was always there to help if anyone needed it. It was easy to teach her because she’s a fast learner, the only thing she struggled with was keeping the Seoul dialect. But even when she slipped up, they found her country accent cute.

Hyunjoo was known for her high notes and constantly sang Ariana Grande, IU, and Taeyeon songs. Some trainees were envious of her but after getting to know her they soon became her friend as well. Everyone thought she would be one of the popular members, but it didn’t go as she expected since the company started giving her less lines despite her having a good voice.

Her company favored another member as main vocalist because she had money and the lead vocalist was the CEO's niece so Hyunjoo got pushed aside and given less screentime often. But she honestly didn’t mind, she was just happy to be a singer. Her group, Paradox, did okay for a nugu company, there was clear favoritisim going on and Hyunjoo wasn't one of the favored members. But her bright personality and vocals helped her gain a small cult like following, her fanbase is known for being extremely devoted.

But a year and a half after debut, fans were shocked when it was announced that Hyunjoo would leave the group for health reasons. There were a bunch of theories flying around as to why she left since she never mentioned health issues. In reality Hyunjoo was fired for two reasons, she was becoming more popular than the intended members and because she fell in love with her bandmate Chaesun aka the CEO's niece. Even Hyunjoo's family don't know about her uality, she was always scared to tell them because of her religious background. They only know the first reason of her being kicked out and blamed it on favoritism. It was her grandma who pushed her to audition for Produce Angel because she thought she deserved a second chance after being in such a terrible company. Hyunjoo is excited to perform for fans again, she wants to open up about the real reasons why she "left" Paradox though she's afraid her Penguins and family will leave her like Chaesun did.

At group events her fans were spotted all dressed up in penguin onesies. Usually idols are known for their crazy sasaengs, but Hyunjoo's fans in particular are delisional to a limit. Leaving fans confused because she seemed in perfect health during promotions. Hyunjoo's penguins showed their anger and support for her by spamming Paradox's instagram photos with penguins and showing up to SuperX dressed in their penguin onesies demanding answers but the company is yet to respond.

WHY DO YOU WANT TO BE A KPOP IDOL?“I discovered EXO’s growl and fell in love with performing because of them. I just want to make people happy and forget about all their problems with my performance. I think that’s the job of an idol, to make music that makes people feel a certain way. If I could just change one persons day to make them happy then I think I did a good job either way.”
