ryuyeon is pretty and she's always been told that since she was little. she has a naturally chubby face that gives her the baby face look. her face is slimmer now but without makeup she still has a slight baby face despite being 30. she hasn't had any permanent plastic surgery but she has had botox as many idols have. she has a natural aegyo sal and double eyelid. any other differences seen from her face during debut to now is just natural aging, weight loss, and bloating.

she does have a dematologist though that recommends products specifically for her to maintain her clear skin and she does her skincare routine religiously. her skin was never the best, pimples were unavoidable for her, especially on her cheeks. when she became an idol it became worse though because of the thick makeup, lack of sleep, and eating greasy foods between schedules. she thought makeup hid it well enough though until she saw this photo which caused her to start taking skincare seriously and doing it every night no matter what. before she would sleep with makeup if she was too tired or half wash her face but never again. ever. she makes sure to go through all 10 steps.

being an idol, she had no choice but to experiment with different looks. she hasn't been as experimental with hairstyles as some idols, mostly just sticking between orange-ish to brown. brown is definitely her comfort color, when her hair needed a break she'll go back to black but dye it brown again later. she has tried blonde but didn't like it at all, stating "i guess i just wasn't meant to have more fun." a play on the phrase blondes have more fun. currently her hair is brown and up to her mid back. she's experimented with lengths and isn't picky about it. she cut her hair to a bob on an impulse after the accident as a means of starting over, so now she's just letting it grow out.

bangs are a different story, she prefers not to have bangs unless they're whispy. its not that she thinks she looks bad in them but she finds having to constantly fix it and make sure its curled so its not scratching her cornia annoying. so she prefers not to have it. the most tragic moment in her career was her micro bangs and short hair that she wishes to eliminate from the internet. compared to before her appearance just looks more mature. everything remains similar and she's very recognizable to anyone that knew her before.

FASHION

ryuyeon's fashion has been experimental since she was a kid. she loved mismatching patterns, colors, and textures. depending on who you ask, her style can either be considered tragic, unique, or a work of art. she gets her inspiration from the 90s and early 2000s. netizens had a lot to say about her fashion back in the days but they had to admit that it was ✨expensive✨. she doesn't exactly know what style it is because it honestly changes everyday since she likes trying different aesthetics. netizens would judge how she dressed yet when they added up the prices it was more than their salary so their opinions went from judgy to impressed. they never got enough of it either.

ELABORATION

ryuyeon's face doesn't match her personality. how can someone so gentle looking be so.. opposite? from a young age ryuyeon has seen the many perspectives of life, the good and the bad. due to this she has become an open minded person, a nonjudgmental girl that doesn't care about how much money others have or if they have the latest items. to her its all about their character that really matters. she's an open minded person willing to talk to anyone and learn from their life experiences. she likes listening to others experiences, she finds it fascinating. she's a chill person thats down to do anything, her carefree nature is what makes her so fun and accepting.

she dislikes too much structure and being restricted. she struggles with following deadlines because she prefers to work in random bursts of energy. she has no idea how she does it but she somehow reaches all her deadlines for yeony, a lot of it is last minute doodles and all nighters. if she does have to follow a schedule like during training she has to at least have time to do what she wants or a day off. her implusive nature makes her seem defiant, if theres rules that she doesn't agree with then she'll question them because her parents taught her the importance of standing up for what you believe in.

she's always been a picky person when it comes to certain things. she just doesn't think she should be living poorly or do things she doesn't like. its not that she likes confrontation but if she doesn't want to do something then she won't do it. when she wants something she goes after it because its her life and she should accomplish what she wants.

BACKGROUND

ryuyeon grew up in an upper class family in seoul, south korea. her mother is a model and her father is a gallerist and painter, owning one of the most famous contemporary art galleries in korea. it was passed from her great grandfather who founded it in the early 1900s. from a young age she was exposed to the beauty of artwork and went to numerous fashion shows growing up. her parents were huge activist, growing up they took numerous trips to places like africa and haiti to volunteer. though she was priviledged and in an upper class family she was humbled by her travels. she knew the value of money and didn't take it for granted like most rich kids.

ryuyeon always knew she wanted to be like her parents when she grew up. no need to say, her interest in fashion and art started very young. she got her art abilities from her father and proved gifted all the way in elementary school. as for fashion, she was helping her mom pick out her outfits from the day she could point. she got to live the best of both worlds as the best dressed kid at her private school while also painting on her walls with her dad and getting down and dirty with everything from mud to icing on a cake as long as it didn't stain her dolce and gabanna dress. academic wise she wasn't bad, she got As and Bs, it was enough for her parents to be satisfied.

her interest in singing started because of her family friend seunghyun. he was older than her but their parents were close so he had no choice but to hang out with her and drag her along to hang with his friends. at the time he was really in hiphop and him and his friends would rap and dance together. ryuyeon wanted to participate too so she tried to rap as well and tried to copy their dance moves. they laughed at her didn't take her seriously since she was nine and they were in middle school at the time. so she started listening to rap music and learned the lyrics so she could impress them, she even wrote her own rap lyrics about her barbies. and yes, that definitely earned another hearty laugh from him and his friends but they found her cute like a little sister.

ryuyeon's interest in rap is what kickstarted her interest in idols and singing. it was just a hobby though, she never thought of becoming an idol. she just found learning the dances and songs fun. she was dressing up in her moms clothes with the heels and lipstick and performing in front of her parents in the livingroom like it was her stage. seunghyun and her even made up a song together and performed it for their parents at ryuyeon family's beach house.

in 2006 seunghyun got signed to yg. during his vacation that same year at a dinner with both their families, seunghyun mentioned that yg was trying to put together a girl group together and were still looking for female trainees. apparently yang hyunsuk reached out to the boys for recommendations and ryuyeon was seunghyuns. her parents were hesitant because becoming an idol was hard. but ryuyeon was interested and they always supported anything she wanted to do, her dad might have also threatened seunghyun to look after her. and with that, she became a yg trainee, following in her big brothers footsteps. little did they know that seunghyun would end up being the t.o.p from bigbang and ryuyeon would be the ryuyeon from heaven.

DESCRIPTION jennie and ryuyeon were destined to become friends, jennie joined yg right after ryuyeon left, they're both heavily into fashion and have seen each other at many fashion shows, ryuyeon made a bunch of outfits for blackpink before and she also saw her a few times when hanging out with jiyong. so it was only a matter of time before they would get close. jennie and ryuyeon actually spend a lot of time together, especially overseas since they both travel like crazy. the fact that she's jiyong's boo only made them closer since they're all friends. whenever jennie complains about jiyong, ryuyeon is quick to yell at him for her. jennie and jiyong go on double dates with ryuyeon and seunghyun which ryuyeon refuses to call double date because she's definitely not dating seunghyun. but jennie ships them for whatever reason and made a bet with jiyong that they'll date which ryuyeon has no idea about.

DESCRIPTION ryuyeon met hyorin back in 2013 because of her relationship with taeyang. they saw each other many many times before actually becoming friends in 2019. she invited hyorin and taeyang to yeony's debut show and hyorin told ryuyeon to be careful of her then boyfriend jaehyuk. she didn't understand at the time but a month later was when she found out the truth. she ended up at taeyang's door with a bottle of soju in her hand and mascara and eyeliner running down her cheeks and the only thing that taeyang said was "... i'll get hyorin."

EXPLANATION yang hyunsuk wanted something catchy to match the other 2ne1 members names. he thought ryuyeon was too korean and not hip enough. originally she was just going to go by ryu but a staff member suggested riyu and thats how her stage name was created. when she went to maximum she was going to use her real name instead but their ceo liked riyu better too.

TRAINEE HISTORY

ryuyeon’s life as a trainee was easier than most. when she joined yg she still lived with her parents and they refused to let her compromise school so she still attended the same private school all throughout training. unlike the other trainees she didnt have to deal with living in a filthy dorm full of roaches, ghosts and rats until she debuted. but thats a whole other story. as for the training itself, the hardest part for her was dancing. she was naturally a good singer and thankfully didn’t have two left feet but the amount of pain she felt after was ridiculous and took a lot of getting used to. to cope she often got massages on the weekends and sometimes weekday with her mom. her grades did slip from the long nights and having no energy to even do homework but she still tried her best to manage. she started getting a few Cs but still passed all her classes which was all her parents cared about.

other trainees were jealous at the special treatment she got while training. she never had a bad attitude towards anyone or had enemies but even her friends couldnt help but be jealous at times. its not that she was better than everyone else because she wasn’t but being old friends with seunghyun and jiyong definitely gave her an advantage. she was able to sit in on their recording sessions with teddy and attempt to rap which cracked up everyone in the room. the fact that she was wealthy made the treatment even better too, when your parents invest in the company that you’re training at of course you’ll receive special treatment. its all business at the end of the day anyways, to add onto that her father and yang hyunsuk actually ended up being good friends. yang hyunsuk showed favoritism towards her during the monthly evaluations because even though she wasn’t the best singer or dance, she never lacked stage presence. not one ounce of ryuyeon is shy, she’s very much used to being the center of attention and since she was already comfortable the moment she stepped in the company because of her connections it made the whole process easier for her. she wasn’t completely free from yang hyunsuk’s criticisms but she’d see him as her house sometimes on weekends so it wasn’t as threatening as for other trainees.

from the beginning ryuyeon was added as a possible member of 2ne1. besides her moments of high maintenanceness, she got along with the other 2ne1 members easily. at first it started as seven of them then went down to five after two got eliminated. ryuyeon was certain she would debut with them, she was already dubbed as the pretty one and often got compliments from staff for adding a cute and refreshing feel to the group. her image didnt quite fit the hiphop style that yg was going for but they already had the idea for her to be the cf queen and gentle girly one of the group. when all the other girls were styled in jeans we would always be seen in a denim skirt or dress instead. it seemed like it was going to workout because they went to fittings together and had photoshoots. but that all came crashing down when they started recording fire, which would end up being 2ne1’s debut single. ryuyeon always wanted to be hiphop, she liked listening to it and tried but she was never able to pull it off since she was little and the same happened during recording. ryuyeon was the only one that sounded out of place and couldn’t get the feel of the song. they even considered changing the debut song to something softer to fit her but everyone agreed that they wanted that to be the title track.

when ryuyeon was told that she would be dropped from 2ne1’s lineup her heart sank. she got along with all the girls so well and was looking forward to it, especially since they already learned the dance to lollipop with bigbang and she was excited to officially perform with seunghyun. she talked about it so much to her parents that even they were looking forward to it. yang hyunsuk and other yg staff weren’t sure what to do with ryuyeon after removing her from 2ne1. he didn’t want to terminate her contract and even thought of debuting her solo but that would be another probably two years of waiting since they would mostly be focusing on bigbang and 2ne1 for a while. since ryuyeon was turning 18 that year, she didnt have another 2 years to waste. for a few months ryuyeon focused on school instead. it was her final year and she thought she might as well focus on applying to a good university since her idol dream was basically ruined. she didn’t leave yg but she wasn’t actively training either, it was just up in the air at that time. but that quickly came to an end 2 months later when hyunsuk gave her father a call saying he as a spot for her at another company. of course he was hesitant at first and so was ryuyeon because the last thing she wanted to do was train at a whole different company that she didn’t know for who knows how long. but he assured her that they would be debuting a group and he would secure a spot for ryuyeon.

from there ryuyeon terminated her contract with yg and signed one with maximum instead. the training system was basically the same as yg but instead she was put at a higher standard. being the last minute new girl in an already established group lineup on top of being an ex yg trainee, it was a lot of pressure. the few months that she trained at maximum was harder than anything she ever experienced at yg. but ryuyeon definitely didn’t disappoint and proved that she deserved to be in maximum. gaining the respect from her groupmates and the staff who underestimated her as just a privileged rich girl with connections. training at maximum caused her competitive side to come out. at yg she thought debut was certain but now she realized it isn’t, no matter what uncle hyunsuk said. ryuyeon refused to back down from a challenge and pushed herself past her limits to prove that she deserved to be in heaven. she didn’t care if she needed four massages a week instead of two. she didn’t care if she had to pull an all nighter to get the dance right. she did whatever she could to show her determination and make yg, her parents, seunghyun, and herself proud.

IDOL LIFE

being an idol was tiring but if she had to redo her life all over again she'd still want to become an idol. she wasn't the most popular but she was probably in the top three based on popularity. it was a childhood dream of hers and she's forever happy that she got to live that life. she bounced between living at home and living at the dorm, it depended on her schedule and if she could tolerate her members. but you have to admit that ryuyeon did make the girls lives easier at times due to her own pickiness. at one point their dorm had a roach problem, especially in the beginning and ryuyeon refused to stay in an infested place and the company was taking forever to fix it so she hired an exterminator herself. when all the girls were exhausted and in pain from all the practice she would get her masseuse to give them the massage of their lives. and don't forget all the food delivers she secretly got despite being on a diet and it being 2am.

she wasn't the type to practice unless she had to unless she was seriously struggling to learn something or the group was behind. to say that she went to the dance practice room on her own and practiced, not since she was a trainee. she didn't have the dancing position anyways so she never put that pressure on herself. her spare time was mostly spent at home, painting, shopping, traveling, spending time with friends, family, and partying. she was seen at a bunch of clubs and after parties in korea and overseas with her friends and western celebrities.

onstage she was cute, she matched heaven's concepts well because of her gentle beauty. during interviews and variety shows she was different than people expected. they thought she'd be shy and cute but ended up more witty and carefree. she interacted with fans a good amount. if was known for giving them random things like her bracelet or her hat and a lot of the time they were name brand items. it all depends how her mood was, when she was in a good mood she'd stop and talk to fans at the airport and sign things for them. but if she was in a bad mood she'd just keep her head down like she didn't see them. the thing she haded most was when fans pushed like crazy at the airport, this is when she gave the most glares at fans who stepped on her foot or grabbed her.

when ryuyeon first joined them as a trainee their relationship was a rocky, a lot of the girls saw her as stuck up because of the little comments she'd make. they also didn't like that she came out of nowhere when there were girls that trained for years at maximum and got eliminated. during that time as a trainee ryuyeon also just lived at home instead so they weren't close at all. she showed up to practice and left.

but once they debuted and lived together they started to undestand her more. she wouldn't say that she was close to every member, they all had their fair share of childish fights and arguments. but if they ever needed her she'd be there no matter how upset or mad she was. she was bad at acting fake for the camera so whenever she was arguing with another member it was obvious because of the way she looked at them and the little comments she made.

for christmas she still bought everyone a christmas gift and same for birthdays, but obviously the members she was closer to got better gifts. the members she was close to she'd take them on vacation and hang out at her house and with friends. she wanted to live a life without any worries or burdens so she didn't like having to see someone she disliked everyday. she made sure to make up quickly whenever she fought with her members. she'd ignore them for a few days then invite them for a meal and talk it out and that usually squashed any beef. but just because it was squashed doesn't mean they liked each other any more than before.

on camera there were certain members she would play around with and cling to more. she purposely sat next to them so she could be comfortable and happy. now looking back she realizes that she was selfish and didn't care for others feelings much since she showed obvious favoritism. she feels bad for any member that she made feel left out so she reaches out often.

Q: THANK YOU FOR SITTING DOWN WITH US TODAY. RECENTLY, HOW HAVE YOU BEEN?

"thank you for having me. besides the fact that i got three hours of sleep last night from jet lag after my flight from new york and there was a hair in my salad this morning, i'm good!" she smiles widely but in complete sarcasm.

Q: WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT BEING IN HEAVEN?

"performing in front of so many people. when i was younger i always put on shows for my parents and dressed up in my moms clothes," she laughs a bit at the memory before continuing. "so when i debuted the rush i got from performing was crazy, i loved hearing the fans cheer for us and sing along to our songs. i just loved being on stage, except for that one time i cried but thats a different story for another time. if you pay me enough i might reveal what really happened," she giggles sneakily.

Q: SINCE HEAVEN, WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN UP TO?

"waaah you didn't watch me on i live alone right? i have a youtube channel are you even subscribed?" she whines teasing the interviewer playfully before letting out a soft chuckle. "i'm kidding, i've mostly been working on my clothing line yeony that debuted in 2019. thats really where all my energy has gone for the last six years. if you want to know more subscribe to my youtube channel!" she laughs biting her tongue gently as a habit.

Q: HAVE YOU KEPT IN TOUCH WITH THE OTHER MEMBERS?

"yes i do keep in touch with them, some more than others now though. i actually saw sohyun recently! we got coffee and talked about old times together, she's so cute," she smiles at the thought. "it would be nice to have a reunion all together again. i'm sure they're all really busy though, i know i am," she nods looking off in a nostalgic manner, wondering about what the other members are doing with their lives.

Q: IF YOU COULD PICK A SOUNDTRACK FOR YOUR LIFE, WHAT SONGS WOULD BE ON IT?

"that's kind of hard. i can't even remember what i ate yesterday and you expect me to remember song titles?" she laughs and looks up as thinks letting out a long uhh before speaking again. "ah i know! i have two!" she shows two fingers excitedly like then says, "hello by joy. that song is so cute it's like my anthem. everyday is a new day so i try not to let the troubles of yesterday affect how i feel today. everytime i hear that song i get instantly happy, her voice is so infectious." she nods then casually starts singing some of the chorus and bursts out laughing when her voice crack. "i don't practice singing everyday anymore, don't judge me," she galres playfully before continuing with the question. "the second song i'd say is someone's someone by monsta x. actually i really love that album, all about luv. but when i heard that song i felt like it described my feelings well. i'm 30 now and i'm still not married and not even planning on having kids yet. i honestly thought i'd be married by now, so sometimes i can't help but wonder if there's someone out thats my perfect match," she nods slowly as if still thinking deeply then looks at the interviewer. "did i get too serious?"

Q: OF COURSE WE HAVE TO TALK ABOUT THE ACCIDENT. ASIDE FROM THE DISBANDMENT, HOW HAS IT AFFECT YOU? HOW HAVE YOU COPED?

"ah i knew this was coming. they ask me this in every interview and my answer is always the same," she says in a nagging kind of way with slight annoyance but continues to answer anyways. "it was hard for all of us, designing and art really helped me cope. i let out all my frustration on a canvas and created some of my best artwork during that time," she pauses for a second looking down at her hand then back up at the interviewer. "honestly, that was the hardest time of my life. harder than being a trainee and the scandal i went through. like yeah we all had our ups and downs with each other but you never expect someone to just be gone the next day. it made me mature and treasure the people around me a lot more. even if i don't talk to my members everyday i always text them happy birthday and try to see how they're doing no matter how busy i am or if they answer," she says with a slight smile at the end after giving a genuine answer of how she felt on the matter.

Q: IF A FAN WAS IN A SIMILAR SITUATION -- OR JUST GOING THROUGH A HARD TIME IN THEIR LIVES, WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE THEM?

"i'd advise them to use it as fuel to find their passion. sitting around and just being sad doesn't help with anything, at least try to be productive and let our your sadness in a healthy way. i can't say i'm totally innocent because i drank but if i didn't have the drive to go to london and get my masters degree it could've spun into something more serious. just remember that after the lows there are always highs," she smiles gently as if showing reassurance in her words.

LIFE POST-ACCIDENT

ryuyeon coped with the accident by keeping herself busy. instead of taking her sadness and frustration out in unhealthy ways, she painted and drew more than ever before. although, she did drink her feelings away on numerous occasions and made some rather dark artwork. she didn't go out much, she mostly stayed in her room at her parents house with headphones in turned all the way up to block out any distractions. her parents and friends were worried about her since they've never seen her like that before but thought it was better to let her grief the way that she wanted as long as she was safe. after a while she decided that she no longer wanted to be engulfed in sadness and applied to london college of fashion to get her MA in fashion design technology.

CURRENT LIFESTYLE

ryuyeon is no longer an idol, she's the owner of yeony, her own ready-to-wear luxury fashion brand that launched in 2019. she is currently living in a 4 bedroom and 2.5 bathroom apartment in hannam-dong seoul with a market value of ₩2.7 billion krw. after graduation her parents gifted her with a 10 story building in cheongdam-dong which has a cafe on the first floor and numerous other businesses in between. the top floor is all dedicated to yeony including ryuyeon's office. she thought about having an office at home but decided that she wanted her home to be a place where she relaxes, not work even though technically she still sketches design at hom.

ryuyeon studied in london for 15 months getting her masters degree in fashion design technology. during that time she was also an intern at for a year burberry. she spent those two years creating amazing designs, making new friends, traveling all throughout europe, and going to way too many fashion shows to even count.

when she graduated in late 2017 she came back to korea and started working on her brand. since yang hyunsuk and her father were literally best friends by then he was happy to let her design and style for yg artists. she worked with yg's stylists to make custom pieces for blackpink, lee hi, and somi with blackpink being her most frequent client. yg was so supportive that he tried to incorporate at least one of her pieces in every comeback and performance.

in 2019 she debuted yeony at seoul fashion week. she invited her members, friends and other celebrities to her big day and the website launched the same day. the website crashed the day it went up and by the next day 90% of the collection was sold out. still today yeony is doing great in sales, she still actively works with blackpink but also expanded to other celebrities. besides appearing at fashion week and other award shows if she's invited, ryuyeon mostly stays out of the limelight. when yeony first debuted she did have a few television interviews and went on a few variety shows for promotion.

from her building to yeony, ryuyeon is making way more than she did as an idol. her building alone is giving her ₩35 million krw a month. but one thing she's unlucky in is love. she's apart of an elite matchmaking service that's definitely not cheap. in return she's been on many dates with numerous self centered jerks with a few nice ones that have remained her friend. she'd say her life right now is a good balance of work and relaxation since she loves what she does, but she's still searching for the one.

RELATIONSHIP WITH HEAVEN

after they disbanded, ryuyeon's relationship with her members improved a lot. she tries to stay in touch with all her members. the accident affected her like that, since it was her first loss she tries hard to keep up with all her friends now at least once in a whole. some of them she hangs out with and get lunch together, but for others their relationship is just a text now and then to make sure they're okay. ryuyeon would still be there for her members if they needed, as long as she isn't overseas of course. but even then she'll videochat if anything. even though she's busy she still reaches out often but she'd like to hang out all together again to see how everyones doing.

yonghwa and ryuyeon met on we got married in early 2010 where they played a fake married couple. at first they were really awkward but warmed up towards each other during the show and had great chemistry. they started dating during the show and saw each other often for filming which allowed them more time together than other idol couples. yonghwa saw ryuyeon as his muse and based many of the love songs he wrote on her.

but once the show ended they couldn't see each other as often due to schedule conflicts. ryuyeon was fine with it but yonghwa became increasingly clingy because he missed her and couldn't write music. he blew up her phone and would show up to maximum or heaven's dorm randomly to see her which was just... weird. sometimes it was like 4am and he'd be knocking on their door like a cop or something. she loved him of course but it was way too much to handle since she likes her space. she broke up with him a few months after we got married ended in 2011.

ryuyeon met minho numerous times backstage and during different schedules like lets go dream team and idol championships. but they gained attention during running man in 2012 for their cute bickering. they're both really competitive and that definitely showed during that episode. minho previously knew her because she did particularly well during the idol championships and found her athleticism attractive. they exchanged numbers after that episode of running man and minho would hit her up whenever he had no one else to play soccer with. thats mainly how they got close and started dating.

their relationship was short though because their constant competing would lead to actual arguments, especially when minho lost. ryuyeon has to admit that the was great but they bickered over the smallest things. she wanted a boyfriend that she could go out to dinner with without it turning into an eating contest to see who can eat faster.

after that they hung out together a lot more and eventually developed feelings. they weren't officially dating but all their friends knew they were an item. in mid 2014 jonghyun joined we got married with yura of girls day which was perfectly fine to ryuyeon because 99% of the couples are just acting anyways. but jonghyun actually caught feelings for her too while also still seeing ryuyeon on the side. he was basically hooking up with them at the same time. she found out about their relationship after seeing them kiss backstage at the mbc entertainment awards. a week later she bumped into yura backstage and turns out she didn't know they had a thing. so she stopped seeing him and she's been good friends with yura since then.

changwook is one of the many men that ryuyeon matched and went on dates with from her elite matchmaking service. they had a brief relationship that was mostly like friends with benefits back in 2017. he was interested in being in a relationship with her but she really couldn't see herself with someone like him. he was really full of himself and mostly talked about work. she wants her relationship to be fun and relieve her from stress, not remind her that she has a deadline that she's not even close to meeting tomorrow. the only reason she stayed was because he was hot and hooking up with him was a good time. but as soon as that was over he'd talk about work and exercise and she just couldn't. now they're just friends, she keeps up with him because he's a popular actor and having him even talk about yeony could boost her sales.

ryuyeon and seunghyun's parents are friends so she's seen him around ever since she could remember. he was like an older brother to her, they often went on vacation together as kids and seunghyun has been protective over her for all of time. their first official meeting was when ryuyeon was 2 months old, seunghyun’s family went over to see newborn ryuyeon and 4 year old seunghyun gently petted her head at the instruction of his mother. ryuyeon doesn’t remember this but seunghyun somehow does, it was his first memory of her. little seunghyun was a tad too rough with his actions and ryuyeon started crying. see the baby burst out in tears made seunghyun cry too which earned a laugh from their parents. he remembers his mom saying, “babies are gentle, you have to treat them with care. ryuyeon is your little sister now so you have to protect her so no one ever makes her cry like that, okay?” all kiddo seunghyun did was nod in response but even now he’s tried to keep his word.

LOVE STORY

seunghyun is like the other brother ryuyeon never asked for but doesn’t want to live without. growing up together seunghyun is the longest friend she’s ever had. the only love they had for each other was like sibling love, unconditionally caring about each other. as they got older seunghyun went from a sweet older brother to an obnoxious older brother. he found joy in teasing ryuyeon playfully, never enough to actually hurt her feelings. even when he did go too far sometimes he always made it up to her by buying her something, usually sweets at the convenience store. anytime they fought it was never serious or lasted long. their relationship was like a playful sibling rivalry, always competing and arguing but love each other like crazy and would fight anyone for them. people thought they were actual siblings with how they acted in public.

when ryuyeon got her first boyfriend at school seunghyun became the overbearing and protective kind of older brother. he threatened the guy and acted all intimidating. it worked though because he broke up with her only after 2 months. she wasn’t head over heels but didn’t like him being so overbearing. seunghyun just didn’t want to see her hurt and even though she was mad at him, he was the one she went to as a shoulder to cry on. everytime ryuyeon dated someone protective seunghyun took over. but that died down when she turned 18, well kind of. on the surface it died down, all he did was make fun of her and trash every guy she dated like no one was good enough for her. but behind her back he’d use his connections to find out more about the guy and keep an eye on them. ryuyeon never caught on but he’d know certain things before she even informed him about it, before he could get caught he’d play it off as a good guess. this happened with everyone she dated, no matter his relationship status which was usually single.

after the accident ryuyeon was in a really bad place. seunghyun was there for her as much as he could while on tour but there was only so much he could do through videochat. he was the person she depended on for those things, with her crutch got it was really hard. so when he came back it was like he finally came back from war. seunghyun never saw ryuyeon cey like that before, it honestly reminded him of baby ryuyeon crying from his slightly too aggressive head patting. the last time he saw her cry so much was when she caught jonghyun cheating. seunghyun almost beat his backstage, thankfully security stopped anything before it happened. but even with that ryuyeon got over it relatively fast.

when seunghyun came back to korea it was only a few days before ryuyeon was going to go to london. she honestly looked terrible with huge undereye bags for the last few months. she struggled to sleep due to night terrors, even prescription sleeping pills didn’t help all the time. but as soon as seunghyun cuddled her the first night of staying there she knocked out and had the best sleep in ages, both of them did since he was exhausted from the tour too. she spent her last few days with him, catching up and just enjoying each others company. it was the best time she had in a while. on her last night they were drinking wine and reminiscing on the past together, it might’ve been the drinks but ryuyeon hadn’t laughed that hard in a long time. the moment seemed right so seunghyun went in for a kiss, it was the first time seunghyun ever tried to make a move on her and to his surprise ryuyeon didn’t pull away. something about seunghyun was different, being with him was effortless and they just got each other. they both loved each other but it was like sibling love and neither of then ever thought of crossing that line. but passion took over and next thing you know they made love together that night. even though she woke up with nothing but his big shirt on next to a shirtless seunghyun, she didn’t even bother thinking about it because she checked her phone and only had an hour to make it to the airport.

you would expect that they would talk about that night but it never got brought up. both of them remembered what happened but acted like they didn’t, ryuyeon just saw it as a drunk mistake that definitely won’t happen again. seunghyun too at first, but the thought kept lingering in his head and the same for ryuyeon. but how can they think of each other like that when they’re like siblings? since neither of them knew how to act on their thoughts or put it into words, they just didn’t. they never told anyone either. their relationship remained what it originally was. seunghyun was the first visitor to her london apartment during college and he visited every few months to go to fashion shows together or just hang out. ryuyeon had a few british and one french boyfriend during her two years in london. it was harder for seunghyun to find out any information on them so he pulled back a little but still never stopped with the prying on her relationships that she’s grown used to. even though seunghyun was a bachelor himself and had many girlfriends as well, he still thought back to ryuyeon and felt jealous when she dated other people. but dismissed these feelings as just being protective and caring over her.

its been years since that incident but the feelings haven’t changed. they both have struggling love lives and can’t seem to find their soulmates. after any bad date they usually end up at each others house to feel better. they’re both obviously made for each other but are constantly in denial. instead of facing their feelings and lingering thoughts they brush it under the rug. but love is like a blurred line and they both have no idea how to tell how deep their loves goes, especially after crossing that line already.

as I’ve said way too many times, ryuyeon and seunghyun are like siblings and they act like it. their comfort with each other goes beyond anyone else, which can be especially said for someone like seunghyun. the good part is that they’re always there for each other. they can show each other their true selves without being judged, except for the minor teasing they do here and there. ryuyeon accepts seunghyun’s weird and seunghyun accepts ryuyeon’s messiness.

depending on how observant the person is, one can tell that seunghyun’s admiration for ryuyeon goes beyond sibling boundaries. though he would always say otherwise. his attentiveness towards her is way more than the other way around. the way he looks at her with pure fondness no matter what she’s doing. the fire in his eyes when he sees her heartbroken or hurt. the way he sparks up when her name is even mentioned. she’s the only person that he lets do so much skinship with him even though he has a true hatred for it, but not with her. he can still be that annoying sibling though, for someone that usually doesn’t bother to know the affairs of others lives unless they tell him first his attentiveness to ryuyeon is almost unheard of. he gets skeptical of any guy that comes into her life and puts on that intimidating big brother act that she hates. when she finds him doing it she’ll gladly kick his and push him away. sometimes his protectiveness can be overbearing but seeing ryuyeon whine in annoyance just makes him want to do it more. he will gladly make fun of any guy that she dates and dig up any fishy past information about them because no one is ever good enough for his ryuyeon.

ryuyeon’s love for seunghyun is similar but she’s better at hiding it. she treats him like any girl best friend would treat a guy best friend, like one of the girls. when her friends are too busy she drags him to the spa to get massages and pedicures which he hates because his feet are extremely ticklish. she would gladly sleepover his house, eat his food, drink his wine, watch netflix, and do skincare with him. she can just walk in and pick out any clothes from his closet if she wanted to. she tells him basically everything, even if she doesn’t say it right away she’ll tell him eventually anyways. sometimes their conversations get way too intimate and he really wishes she’d tell chaerin or jennie instead but that’s what comes with being a guy best friend.

aspects of them are already like a real couple. when seunghyun is really angry, ryuyeon is the only one that can calm him down. all she has to do is hug him and tell him to calm down and he will. they have playful banter all the time that makes them seem like they’re married already. nothing either of them do is free of playful teasing. the amount of skinship they do is basically beyond friendship level, anyone could tell that they’ve known each other for a very long time. seunghyun is as attentive to her as any good boyfriend should be and his lap is always open for a seat, even at unexpected times. ryuyeon knows that with seunghyun she’ll never be judged even if she’s looking like a hot mess with bed hair and haven’t showered for three days straight. he’ll just playfully call her stinky then set up a nice bath for her with scented candles, her tooth brush, a bunch of bubbles and her favorite netflix show. just how she likes it, and if she wants him to stay then he will. its things like this that make their friends ship them and other people refuse to believe that they aren’t dating.

but whenever the topic of their feelings come up, thats when it gets complicated. its kind of a sensitive topic that they both get embarrassed from. probably because they hooked up and no one else knows about it. they quickly laugh it off and dismiss having any feeling for each other, just a sibling relationship. even with her friends if someone says seunghyun seems like he likes you she’ll quickly say “seunghyun?! ew no i’d never date that ugly ahjussi”. she’s a professional at changing the topic to deflect from any questions. even with each other, when they feel like its a kissable moment they quickly change the topic. its like comedy or teasing each other is their way to avoid the main issue. that they both have feelings that they’re ignoring and they both know it.
