     kwan it's the name he goes by at work, originally he just went by his full name but later found that foreign clients found it hard to pronounce so now he just uses kwan.
  zuzu a nickname that soobi gave him because he calls her zoomzoom and she wanted their names to match.
  joobear a nickname that bisoo gave him since they were little because he always gave her a tight bear hug whenever he missed her, basically when he didn't see her for more than a day. only she ever called him that and if anyone else did he'll most likely freak out.

LANGUAGES. korean 100% + he was born in korea, he's good at masking his jeju accent but when he gets comfortable or he feels a lot of emotion it comes out from time to time. soobi understands jeju dialect fully and can speak it too, she only ever talks to jookwan in it though or when she goes there.  
     english 80% + after getting the job for vogue he met a lot of people from different countries and english was the language they usually spoke so he borrowed a textbook from the library (that he never returned) and learned english from that. he has a korean accent when speaking it but is quite fluent either way. 
     french 50% +  one of the places that he's gone to the most besides america and london where they mainly speak english is paris. he learned french after working there for months and constantly visiting. he isn't as fluent as english but he can hold a conversation. 
OCCUPATION. freelance art director and photographer he doesn’t only take pictures, he creates concepts and helps the clients visions come to life while adding his own twist and aesthetic. he’s gotten many job offers from agencies like the black label and sm entertainment but prefers not to be tied down to one agency, instead getting jobs from all over that let him travel the world and try new concepts. due to this he’s actually in quite high demand and has constant work coming in. he’s worked with big name brands like chanel and vogue as well as entertainment companies. at the end of the year he usually holds an exhibit showing off his photography that he took on his spare time while traveling the world and during his day to day life finding the little beautiful moments. usually clients, friends, fans, and random people who reserve tickets online attend to purchase his photography or just enjoy the pics. 

PREVIOUS WORKS. jookwan has worked with numerous magazines and clothing brands. getting discovered by gdragon opened many doors for him and gave him the opportunity to work with other artists as well. gdragon in particular fell in love with his dark concepts on instagram which is his prefered style. he finds it strange that dark is associated with negative things so he likes using darker edits to show that it can be beautiful too to change peoples perception that dark always means fear or sadness. he was only supposed to work on the photoshoot but gdragon wanted him to do the video too which started his career as an art director. instead of just a photoshoot with random outfits he makes sure it all ties together to create an overall message, all the way down to the background. when he's not working with artists he mostly does commercial and editorial shoots for brands and magazines.

UALITY. jookwan is panual, he discovered his uality after bisoo passed away. before he only had eyes for bisoo so he never questioned his uality or even thought about it. maybe it was loneliness but he just needed to lay next to someone and didn't care about the gender after she was gone.

STYLE. you know how when you watch runway shows and you sit there wondering how those pieces go together but it still somehow looks nice? thats how jookwan dresses. he loves colors, patterns, and subtle pops. he doesn't do this to stand out, instead he just wears what he wants without much care for what others have to say or think. men's clothes isn't as limiting as people think, its just people often don't go out of their comfort zone to find items that aren't the basics. his closet is full of designer items that he gets gifted or buys himself, most likely not mainstream designers like louis vuitton or chanel either. which he does have, just not many, he thinks lesser known designers are more unique. jookwan's closet.

generally jookwan is a gentle and calm man. his aura is very mellow, almost calming to be around in a way which clashes his loud outfits. he gives off the impression that you can say anything to him without being judged or given a side eye and its true. his immense traveling has helped open his eyes to all types of people. besides, he thinks he's the last person to judge as someone who was found in a box as a kid. even his facial expressions are gentle, the advice that he gives is never demanding. he has a strong belief in doing what makes you happy, even if it goes against social norms. he tries to give back as much as he can, contributing to little bits of kindness everywhere he goes whether its helping someone along the road or donating to a charity.

he considers himself an ambivert, being extroverted comes optional for him. he doesn't let his introverted nature hold him back but being overly social for too long can prove to be tiring for him and he needs his independent time. starting up a conversation with another individual comes easy to him though, making friends along his journey of travel never proved to be a problem. being a loner for much of his life and after being invited to many exclusive parties and dinners interacting with people from all walks of life, he's learned the art of reading people. as soon as you walk into the room he can pick up your vibe. he can tell the subtle changes in their behavior and can truly identify how someone feels about another by their body language. when talking to him its almost as if he can read your mind before you say it. his intuition is on a whole other level and he uses his sensitive with his photography, capturing subtle moments that yet mean so much. a single photo can tell a whole story.

jookwan has always been a curious person, he enjoys learning new things and isn't afraid to ask questions. he finds joy in new experiences and is always down for an adventure. the type to get tickets for something you said you wanted to do without you even having to ask. 

however, there are dark sides to his personality. generally jookwan has a lot of patience, but his need for perfection makes it frustrating for him at times. he wasn't always a perfectionist, he found beauty in raw imagery, but after the passing of his wife he's been so caught up in making her proud and succeeding as much as he can that sometimes he loses himself in getting the perfect shot. once he's upset it takes him a long time to cool down and it all goes back to bisoo. if she was here he wouldn't be so upset because she always knew how to calm him down and motivate him. he's stubborn when it comes to this, if others tell him it's good he doesn't care because they're not bisoo so its not the same. his stubbornness is something that shows throughout all parts of his personality. he lives the way he wants and doesn't let others tell him what to do. even with all the criticism he still raises soobi how he wants to and dresses the way he wants.

when he has a bad shoot he takes a minute to go outside and smoke to calm himself down. but once he comes back inside his mood isn't the same, he can explode at any little thing. his version of exploding is usual passive aggressive talking, for professional reasons he doesn't let out his emotions on clients. it's usually taeri or someone that works for him. they all already know thats how he is at times anyways, unless they're new but they do get a warning. he might give good advice but he takes out his emotions in unhealthy ways, sometimes he'd go to the roof and just scream, other times he'll go to his office and just start tossing everything on the floor, go to the bar and drink his feelings away, take one too many sleeping pills or he might text an old fling to help him let out his frustrations ually. last time in his fit of anger he broke his camera.

either way he never talks about it, bisoo is something he doesn't like talking to anyone about getting easily offended if anyone just mentions her or tells him to move on. after these intense fits of anger he'll probably visit bisoo's grave and just cry telling her how much he misses her. if he can't go to her grave then he'll meditate in hopes of trying to connect with her spiritually. to anyone he offended he'll give them something as an apology. this fits of anger are rare though, they only happen when related to bisoo, even if its underlying. especially when people bring her up in a conversation he loses his .

this is where he's misunderstood, it's hard to pinpoint him since his personality can be very contradicting. for example he's introverted yet easily extroverted. he's independent yet still dependent on his deceased wife to get him through the day. he has these rare intense fits of anger yet also hides his anger at times. when it's someone else just being a pain and constantly making him upset then he doesn't have a problem cutting them off. he actually enjoys seeing the other person get infuriated by his sarcastic responses. he can be empathetic yet is somehow stoic. he understands others emotions easily and can talk about others emotions in a healthy way but as soon as someone tries to dig up his past wounds and feelings he shuts down and acts cold. this is particularly prevalent with his flings when they try to have pillow talk and know him on a deeper level. instead of trying to understand him people label him as crazy.

BACKGROUND.
before.

jookwan was born to young parents, both fifteen at the time of his birth. his father left his mother after finding out the news of her pregnancy and she couldn't take the pressure from her parents anymore so she put him in a box on the side of the road with a note explaining her circumstances. eight hours later he was found by a middle aged man crying and sun burnt from the brutal summers of jeju. the old man, ong taekhyeong, who was lonely from his wife's recent passing brought him home to his small self built house in the countryside and decided to raise him himself.

jookwan grew up in a small town, his dad was the owner of a ramen shop. everyone knew each other and because of that they talked about him. he was known as the weird orphan kid in school and got bullied for not having real parents. but taekhyeong made him strong minded so as he got older the bullying didn't bother him as much. he never wanted to fit in anyways, always an eccentric kid wearing funky mismatched clothes. 

he found his first camera on the beach at the age of 8 and that jumpstarted his interest in photography. taekhyeong taught him that life is short but the brain's capacity to remember things is even shorter, there's so many beautiful moments that we as humans forget that can be so powerful and uplifting in the future, even the bad times can be taken as a lesson a few years from now. that inspired him to capture as many moments as he can with his little film camera. he shamelessly even took a picture of his bullies while they were chasing him to beat him up, its blurry but funny to look at now.  

kim bisoo.

jookwan had a crush on bisoo since kindergarten, she was the prettiest girl he's ever seen. he gave her a gift every year for white day and her friends always laughed at him but she secretly found it sweet. when he got his camera he started secretly taking pictures of her during school and his bullies about it. one day she stood up for him and kicked sand in the boy's eye and that was the start to their friendship. she was his only friend and the only person that understood him, he got bullied less once they became friends because the bullies were always scared of her. 

they never officially dated, they just both knew that they were each others. it was an unspoken thing around the whole town. they promised to marry each other with ring pops at the age of 12 and it actually came true once they turned 18. they had a wedding at the one church their town had and everyone showed up. they made the big move to seoul after their wedding to a really tiny apartment but they were just happy to be there. they attended sungkyunkwan university as a visual communication design major and bisoo a fine arts major. for money jookwan worked as a wedding photographer and bisoo worked as an assistant art teacher for a pre school. it was hard to make ends meet but they were satisfied and always got through it as long as they had each other. they just had the same deam to become best photography and artist duo that korea had ever seen.

when bisoo got pregnant it was amazing news, they weren't trying but they also weren't protecting against it either. they both wanted a big family and couldn't wait to see what kind of little weirdos they would have, if they would be artsy like their mother or have an eye for photography like their father. they found out a year after they graduated in 2016, bisoo got a fulltime position as an art teacher at the preschool and jookwan was still a wedding photographer but also did some freelance for people that found him on instagram. 

while she was pregnant jookwan's photography got discovered by gdragon who reached out to him to do the photographer for his kwon jiyong album. it boosted his career and helped him have the opportunity to work with all kinds of companies from shooting concept photos for idol groups to being front row at fashion week capturing the outfits as they walk down the runway. but before bisoo got to see his dreams come true and just how big of a photographer he would be, she passed away while giving birth to soobi due to high blood pressure. he got the daughter he always wanted but the love of his life was gone and it hit him hard.

jookwan's life is going great, he has his dream job, a wonderful daughter, a big house, but he's still missing bisoo. its been four years since bisoo passed away and soobi was born, and jookwan never dated anyone else since. he still has her abstract paintings in his house that he's very keen on nobody touching or he'll flip out. he still has every photograph they've ever took from when they were kids, even the little doodles she used to make on napkins when they went out to eat. she has her own closet in his new house filled with all her clothes like nothing happened and even refers to her when speaking to soobi sometimes, if you go there without knowing much about him you'd think that he's still married. he's hooked up with other people before but its never gone further than that. closing that chapter in his life just isn't something he's ready to do yet.

soobi is now four years old, she's artsy like her parents dabbling in both art and photography. a little weirdo indeed. jookwan takes her everywhere even when he has to travel she's always right next to him or not too far away with his assisstant. for the first time in his life he's met more people than ever but he still feels lonely. he found out about the single parents club from hyunwoo's facebook post and joined just to see what its about. 

BEING A SINGLE FATHER.

Jookwan is a really lenient parent, some might even call him lazy or crazy. He might be crazy but he’s definitely not lazy. Many associate his type of parenting with permissive parenting but he disagrees. Kids with permissive parents tend to be more wild and unmotivated, not able to make decisions on their own because of lack of guidance and prone to deliquency since their parents are seen more as friends. But soobi isn't like that, she can be considered strange but not a deliquent, she can just stand her own ground and is more creative than the average kid. She's highly motivated, in school she won't shy away from raising her hand if she has a question or knows the answer and knows that homework comes before play. It might seem unstructured in their house but him and Soobi have a mutual understanding of the few rules that care in place.

Jookwan just believes that kids should be kids, they should be able to express themselves however they want to with no boundaries while they’re young before the stress of life actually hits them. Thats why he lets soobi pick her own outfits and his too, it might not match but who cares. Who was the person that decided which colors match anyways? He’s been called an irresponsible parent, a freak, every bad name in the book by all those snotty daycare moms and its become hard for bisoo to make friends because other parents dont want her around their kid. She got made fun of because one annoying boy said she had cooties. But instead of crying about it you know what she did? Kissed him so he got cooties too. 

Jookwan has always taught her that its ok to be an individual and if people don’t like you then em. Literally. He allows her to curse but only when she feels a strong emotion, not just casually. She'll end up cursing anyways when she's older so he doesn't see the big deal. He applauds mistakes and fails as long as she tries whole heartedly and lets her do whatever her heart desires. It fosters creativity instead of being one of those boring office workers who secretly hate their lives. Whenever he travels he never leaves her behind so she can explore the world while she’s young and they can make memories together. he beleives that the school system is limiting, soobi traveling and seeing the real world is the best way to learn. he tries to teach her life lessons along the way of their travels making soobi a wise kid.  

Due to his lenient ways his house is full of toys and art work she’s made, he even allows her to draw on the walls. He lets her eat what she wants as long as its reasonable and not a big bag of candy, she does have a cavity from too much candy though. Instead of telling her what she should do he believes in letting her choose so she can be decisive and not easily influenced by others. He’s just a really chill parent with a creative and energetic daughter. 

Soobi is aware that her mom passed away and how. They go and visit her on special days like their birthdays or mothers day and have a picnic with her at her grave. Sometimes they just visit when they feel like it too. They both tell her about their day and bring gifts for her and everything. Depending on who you ask it can be considered unhealthy but jookwan thinks its important that she knows her mother, and jookwan believes that even though she isn’t there physically doesn’t mean she isn't there spiritually. He is actually convinced that bisoo is still around. He doesn't allow the random people he meets at bars to go to his place because soobi is there and because he doesn't want someone who isn't bisoo in his bed, even Taeri. He can't help but feel like after hooking up with someone because he still feels like he's betraying bisoo but sometimes lust and loneliness just gets the best of him. Moving on in a healthy way is something he has to do but he has a hard time letting go, even after four years.

1. hello! please introduce yourself and say a few fun facts about yourself. "hi i'm photographer ong jookwan." he gives a two finger salute. "a fun fact about me is that i was found in a box on the side of the road when i was a few weeks old," he pauses for a minute realizing the darkness in the statement he just made and lets out a chuckle. "after saying it out loud it doesn't sound as fun as i thought it would."

2. how many children do you have? what are their names? is there anything you want to say about them? "i have a daughter, her name is soobi but i call her zoomzoom since she pronounces her name as zoomi, its really cute actually. oh and she picked my outfit today." he stands up to show off his hotpink faux fur jacket with leather shorts up to his knees and his blue triple s balenciaga sneakers paired with highlight yellow socks. to top it off he has a cowboy hat and green pearlescent acetate sunglasses by gucci. "kind of loud but i think she did a great job. definitely better than the flared jeans and cowboy boots i was wearing last week." 

3. how old were you when you became a single parent? he smiles at the question but the pain behind his eyes is obvious "i was 23, my wife passed away the day soobi was born from high blood pressure."

4. at what point did you really realize you would have to take all the sole responsibilty of your child/children from now on? "the moment i took her home from the hospital, she was so tiny, and when she cried i panicked because i didn't know what to do," he looks over at soobi playing with the other kids and a feeling of nostalgia comes over him, a faint smile creeping on his face. "but after four years i finally got the hang of it... i hope."

5. personally, what do you think is the hardest thing about being a single parent? "its not as hard as i thought it would be, soobi's a good kid and we're really close. i have to give a lot of credit to my assistant as well, it wouldn't be fair if i claimed to do everything. i'm just nervous for when she becomes a teenager and hates my guts for absolutely no reason. now that sounds terrifying."

6. what is one thing you want to tell people who have single parents or are a single parent themselves? "let your kids live, i've seen so many parents who are controlling and stuck up. as you get old your inner child naturally dies, so why kill it prematurely? let them have fun while they're young."
