Appearance Crystal is a tall girl and although her weight of 51kg is heavier than most idols, it is still healthy for her height and SM Entertainment's nutritionists and fitness trainers plan her diets and fitness routines to keep her at a healthy weight for idols. She is currently 166 cm tall, which is already very tall for a girl, especially at her age, and she will be 174cm when she is fully grown. As of debut, she has hair which is dyed hot pink, and light ash purple at the ends.

Style Crystal dresses like any other teenager. She usually pairs t-shirts or crop tops with shorts, skirts or jeans, and her white 10000 won sneakers. Though her outfits lean towards the plain side, she is lately getting into cute prints and anime / japanese subculture inspired designs. Possible outfits here

Personality

(+) cheerful, zealous, friendly, confident
(0) talkative, naive
(-) irritable, unserious, blunt, impulsive

Cheerful : Crystal usually has a smile on her face and a polite demeanor. She likes to share her life and what she is doing with others, and believes that if she has a positive attitude, it will garner their interest.

Friendly and talkative : Crystal loves getting to know others and she believes the best way to do so is by talking to them, about anything under the sun. However, Crystal has a tendency to talk too much at times, sometimes when it is unwelcomed, and say the wrong things at the wrong time.

Zealous : Crystal has a lot of passions, and she puts heart into them. She will practise until she gets every move of a choreography right and hits all the notes, or spend many hours on a cosplay. She believes that if you truly have passion for something, you will put as much effort as you can into it.

Confident : Crystal knows she's young and cute, and has a good amount of natural talent, which is what the K-pop industry loves. She's a big show off, and loves to draw attention to herself.

Irritable and blunt : Crystal is a teenage girl, and teenage girls usually get annoyed easily. Crystal is known to fly into a rage over small provocations. Crystal is also not the most tactful in expressing herself, as she has not properly learned how to be diplomatic yet. Crystal speaks her mind, and unintentionally offends people. Her straightforwardness is loved by some people who wish idols would be more honest, but some also wish she would keep her not-so-nice opinions to herself.

Impulsive and unserious : Crystal is not someone to think before she acts. She's eager to prove herself, but when she charges into things head-on, she often causes trouble for herself and others. She's a young girl, and she does tend to be reckless, doing things as she gets the motivation and dropping them just as quickly when she runs out of steam for them. Being an idol is exactly that, and although Crystal has not yet lost her passion for performing, she has times when she just doesn't feel like practising, and will sit in a corner using her phone, or skip practise and stay in the dorm gaming or doing cosplay tests.

Naive : Growing up, Crystal did not suffer many setbacks, and her training at SM Entertainment was relatively pleasant. Crystal is ignorant of the bad things that happen in the K-pop industry, and believes that it can't be that bad if so many people are idols and they stay in the industry for so long.

Background Crystal was born in 2006 to a newly married couple in their 20s. Her parents had strong technical skills and passions for the arts, her mother being an English and literature teacher in a secondary school, and her father being a former guitarist of an independent band who later became a calefare actor, and then got a more practical office job. Having been failed by Singapore's meritocratic system, Mr and Mrs Wong decided that if their little girl excelled in and had the passion for the arts and technical skills rather than academics, they would let her to pursue it.

Their wishes seemed to come true, as little Crystal enjoyed singing and dancing to the songs she heard on tv as a toddler and young child. Even if she didn't know the proper lyrics or choreographies, she would try her best to imitate. The K-wave was also strong in Singapore when Crystal was in primary school, and her parents started watching several South Korean dramas on TV. Crystal's schoolmates also introduced her to several K-pop groups, and they would listen to the songs, learn the dances and chase the idols together. Crystal also became a fan of Love Live in 2017 through her schoolmates, and she and her friends started cosplaying the characters together as well as learning dances from the series.

Crystal continued cosplaying and learning dances after she moved on to secondary school. During April 2020 when Singapore was struck hard by the COVID-19 pandemic, a two-month "circuit breaker" period was implemented and all schools including Crystal's switched to home-based learning, which left her with more free time when she was done with her lessons for the day since social gatherings or meeting people from outside your household was not even allowed, and all shops were closed except for food and beverage establishments, and people were only allowed to takeaway. At first, it was rather boring, but Crystal grew to enjoy having more time to devote to cosplaying, gaming and learning dances that she wanted to do rather than dances for group performances. It was also during this time when auditions for SM's new competition, The Jarang Project, were announced. Crystal saw the post on SM Entertainment's official instagram account, and she decided to film an audition tape. Crystal ended up winning the competition, and in 2021 she debuted as a member of SM's new girl group, Girls Zone.

Letitia Tok, 14, student, best friend (fc : girls planet 999 hsu nien tzu)Β
Letitia and Crystal got to know each other after both were in the same class in their first year of secondary school and became friends as they both had an interest in Japanese subculture, particularly anime and games. They were in the same cosplay dance group and also did cosplays together. Nowadays, they are usually chatting via social media. Letitia also streams Girls Zone's MVs and buys their albums as a way to support her best friend. She's just waiting for a Girls Zone fanmeet in Singapore.

Stage Name Seoljung (μ„€μ •) SM was afraid she would ge confused with f(x) Krystal if they used her English name as her stage name, so instead they translated her Chinese name into Korean.

Persona Cyber Girl (Crystal is known for being social-media savvy as well as being a gamer and her love of cyber inspired asethetics.)

Trainee Years And Life Crystal trained at SM Entertainment from December 2020 to July 2021.

Crystal posted her audition on Instagram. She did not have any expectations, since she considered her skills average and had not performed at any auditioned events in Singapore before. However, SM decided to give her a chance because of her outgoing and humorous personality and her passion for performing, which showed in the video where she danced passionately and energetically. She was announced as one of the winners of the Jarang Project, and after finishing her first year of secondary school and working out a plan with her parents and SM so that training and promotions would not affect her studies, she flew to South Korea to start her training.

Crystal's training was rather basic - Korean language lessons as well as vocal, dance and rap trainings. The performance trainings were nothing like what she went through for cosplay dance performances. The trainers were harsh and often made Crystal cry, scolding her even when she made small mistakes. The k-pop industry is known for its high standards and not accepting less than perfection, and it's why Crystal had it especially tough. She was a fish out of water and only had several months to perfect her skills as well as assimilate before debut. Despite the tough life, her parents kept her going when they gave her words of encouragement during her weekly phone calls with them. The older members of Girls Zone also took care of her, and that made things more bearable.

Studies were also a problem for Crystal, who had just finished her first year of secondary school when she started training. However, she, her parents and SM managed to come to an agreement that she would take a leave of absense from school and do her lessons via e-learning, which she had already gotten used to doing during the circiut breaker period in Singapore. Her lectures were done in a crash course style, which added to Crystal's stress on top of the intense training. However, Crystal was determined to become an idol, and she worked hard in her studies as well as training. Her parents and SM also agreed that after she finished her third year of secondary school, she would go to an arts high school with a programme for idols to make things easier for her.

Scandals I don't want her to get involved in big scandals but she will definitely make headlines every now and then for saying the wrong thing at the wrong time.

Please Introduce Yourself Hi everyone! My name is Crystal Wong and I'm currently 14 years old and studying in Secondary 2. I'm a big fan of k-pop and anime and I also love dancing.

What Made You Want To Audition For Girls Zone I love performing, and I was really bored during the circuit breaker period. I was almost going crazy trapped at home and felt that I was wasting my time being stuck at home and thought that since I'm only young once, why not use this chance to try doing something I love? So that's why I auditioned for Girls Zone.

What Was Your Reaction When You Were Announced As A Winner I was really shocked because I'm in no way at a professional level in terms of my dance skills! Plus there were so many auditionees. Nevertheless I was very happy and excited that SM is willing to give me a chance. My parents were also very happy for me because they've been artistic people since young and they never believed in advancing in a corporate career, they've always wanted success on their own terms and since young they always encouraged me to follow my dreams even if it's not the typical Singaporean dream of owning a house and a car and they've always supported me as a performer, never failing to turn up when I had a performance at a con or share my performance videos around so people would recognise me.

Is There Anything You Would Like To Accomplish With Girls Zone And By Yourself I hope to do my best during these 5 years and show everyone that Singaporeans can be successful K-pop idols as I am aware that there are several Singaporean K-pop idols that were not successful in their idol career. I also hope that Girls Zone will become a successful idol group known worldwide like other SM Entertainment groups.

What Are Your Plans After Your Contract Is Over And What Do You Plan To Do, Do You Think You Will Miss Idol Life I hope to do something related to cosplay or gaming. Maybe I can become a patreon cosplayer and model or gaming streamer? I definitly will miss the idol life but I'll be happy to perform at cosplay conventions in Singapore again.

Thank You For Your Time, Is There Anything You Would Like To Add Thanks for the interview, I'm Crystal Wong, Singapore's number one idol! Please support me and Girls Zone!

Comments I do not intend for Crystal to have a love interest. Her backup plotline will be Diamond and her talent twins for the plotline will be Oh My Girl Jiho for vocal and Izone Nako for dance. Her backup variety twin is CLC Sorn. How she gets along with other SM people is up to you.
