Appearance Kayla is 168cm tall and she is slightly heavier than most idols at 53kg, but SM's nutritionists and fitness trainers plan her diet and exercise routines to keep her in shape. As of debut her hair was dyed red but after that it remained medium brown for other comebacks. She has monolids and slightly tanned skin.
Style Kayla usually wears simple tops paired with jeans, shorts or a skirt. On days when she feels fancy, she will wear a simple dress or a blouse with jeans or a skirt. Kind and generous : Kayla is a person who likes to give. She wants others to be happy and will never intentionally hurt them.
Supportive : Kayla is always there for her loved ones when they need her, whether they have something important to do or are going through a tough time. Even if she cannot be with them physically, she will still send them some words of encouragement.
Zealous : Kayla puts a lot of effort into her passions and the things she cares about. Not only does she practise hard to hit every note or perfect her choreographies, but she looks out for her loved ones and is always there for them, and she never hesitates to speak out on things that are important to her.
Humorous and dirty-minded : Kayla likes to make people laugh, usually by making jokes and bad puns. Blunt and sarcastic : It's not that Kayla is a sugarcoater, she'll just say what she means but word it politely. She's someone whose not afraid to call people out when she feels they are wrong, and she loves roasting people and teasingly making fun of them.

Background Kayla was born to a Korean family living in Canada in 2002. Her childhood was marked by large gatherings with her extended family during birthday celebrations and festive occasions. In particular, she spent a lot of time with her cousin Andrea, who was 13 years older than her during this time. As Kayla had no other siblings, Andrea was like an elder sister to her. Kayla often sought comfort from Andrea when the latter was bullied during her schooling days. In the early 2010s, the K-wave was becoming popular, and Kayla was one of the few Asians in her school and some of her schoolmates were Koreaboos. During these years, Kayla often got a lot of hate not only for being Korean, but also not looking like what most idols looked like - double eyelids, sharp nose bridges, plump lips and fair skin. Other than the bullying, Kayla's school life was rather uneventful, until she was a high school senior in 2020. That was the year the Covid-19 pandemic struck, forcing closure of schools and students to do their lessons online, including Kayla.
Due to being at home so often, Kayla often overheard and even saw advertistments when her mother was watching KBS on cable. This was how she discovered SM Entertainment's Jarang Project. Around this time, Andrea's most successful work, Kim's Convenience, was cancelled after being on air for five years, and not only was Andrea's mental health due to the series' abrupt cancellation, even though she was able to find work, her fanbase was insufficient to rally support for her and help her get recognition. Thus, Kayla decided to audition for the Jarang Project and hoped to use it as an opportunity to promote Andrea and help her cousin get recognised. Kayla ended up winning the competition and later debuting as a member of SM's new girl group, Girls Zone.

Andrea Bang, 31, actress, cousinΒ Andrea and Kayla have been close since young, and they often keep in touch via messaging and social media, with Andrea often sending Kayla words of encouragement every morning and good luck wishes if Kayla has an important event on the day.

Trainee Years And Life Kayla trained at SM Entertainment from October 2020 to July 2021. She flew to South Korea right after graduating from high school.
Training was different from Kayla's sheltered life in Canada. As the only child in her family, she was waited on hand and foot and always had people to look out for her and remind her to do stuff, or wake her up on time for schedules. This was hard for her to adjust as at first, the other trainees didn't really care about her (but this was later corrected by their managers and Pinwheel). Because of this, Kayla often arrived late for schedules and got scolded by the managers and trainers. She also often forgot to bring things out and ended up becoming inconvenienced. Because of this, Kayla had to learn to be responsible for herself. She also started to take care of the younger trainees in the same way as she hoped the same thing would not happen to them.
Even though she was proficient in the Korean language, Kayla struggled a lot to polish her skills in the short time as she did not have background in singing and dancing, and she just re-recorded her audition until she thought she sounded good enough. The only reason why she managed to win was because Andrea shared her audition video that she posted on Facebook, and many fans of Kim's Convenience voted for her hoping for Andrea to notice them. It's one of the reason why the other trainees didn't really like her at first, because to them it seemed that Kayla got in because of her famous cousin and not because of her skills and passion. Nevertheless, Kayla worked hard and put all her energy into perfecting choreographies and vocal trainings, to prove she had what it takes to be an idol and doesn't only need famous relatives to go far.

Please Introduce Yourself Hi everyone, I'm Girls Zone's main dancer and lead vocalist, Kayla Bang, going by the stage name Aly and I'm currently 19 years old.
What Made You Want To Audition For Girls Zone During the time when auditions for the Jarang Project were announced, my cousin Andrea was suffering from anxiety due to her show being cancelled and the uncertainty of her future. So I thought becoming an idol would be a good way to promote her so she can get more lead roles in films. And also I was kinda bored because I was at home most of the time due to covid.
What Was Your Reaction When You Were Announced As A Winner I was kinda happy but I felt that I only won because Andrea's fans voted for me.
Is There Anything You Would Like To Accomplish With Girls Zone And By Yourself I hope for Girls Zone to become a successful idol group known worldwide like our senior girl groups and for Andrea to become a successful actress known all around the world too.

The Love Story I will elaborate if needed but basically, Canada legalised same- marriage in the early 2000s when Kayla was really young, she was raised not to treat anyone differently regardless of their uality among other things and in fact Andrea was an advocate for LGBTQIA+ rights but Kayla didn't realise it wasn't the same way in other places, especially South Korea, until she moved over. And when she developed a crush on her groupmate / labelmate she was afraid to come out for fear she'd get rejected due to homophobia.
