what kind of person is hangang? you won't be able to see it immediately because of her timid front, and her want to hide from all eyes. at her core, she is good in her will and nature. although she is still awkwardly placed when it comes to people interactions, she genuinely cares about everyone and (after mustering up the courage for an hour or so) will want to help people around her. at least she wants them to at least feel comfortable or happy. she tries her best to see the good in people and in life. despite her initial reaction, she doesn't put people at face value and quick to forgive. she is pure at heart and in her actions, only wanting the best for all and harmony for the world. people are always in awe whenever they see her work because they don't expect such a shy person to be so graceful. she seems like someone else when she's focused and her hands are busy doing deeds without any significant errors. she is skilled and nimble in her craft, showing the coordination, clarity and focus that seems to lack in her actual personality. along came this is the professional ethics that her mother has grilled inside her. she does her work thoroughly and responsibly, always striving for the best in it. she's clear on what she wants and always does her role accordingly. at times she will get intimidated on the task or get overtly nervous at group projects, but she once she put herself in that responsibility then she doesn't back away from it
hangang is generally a clean person, working in the cafe since she was young and her mother always wanting everything to be clean has imprinted itself in her ways. you never see her leave her room or the kitchen messy, and she never procrastinates when it comes to cleaning. it is quite the common knowledge that she's not great with conversations, but she is miles better at listening to people. she's always interested in people's stories and knows how to give great reactions for them to continue talking. she's willing to listen to people talk about their favorite things all-day and grateful when they don't mind talking for them both. it doesn't take much to make her happy, especially when she's able to listen to you talk so passionately. compliments and praises for her craft, of course, goes a long way. but nothing makes her more giddy than making meaningful emotional associations with people either through friendship or her specialty
her cowardice has always been the most apparent flaw that causes her to be timid and anxious around people. she always gives herself pep talks and tries to muster up the courage to do the simplest task involving other people. before taking up a task, she's always in a constant state of fear of whether she's up for it and would be even more petrified when other people are involved. despite this weakness, she wants to change her ways, yet she has a long way to go. she tends to trust people immediately once they can befriend her and go past through her scared exterior. never really thinking twice about their behavior, she just believes in everything they say and easily tricked. her innocence makes her impossible to second guess people's intentions with her and just believes that they are good people despite obvious red flags. she will be in danger if there are manipulative people that can make her feel comfortable and relax with their presence. the nature of her work had made wary of her own emotions. after the incident, she was afraid of hurting people because of her feelings and settle with just repressing them deep inside her. she feels that she's not allowed to feel anything that is too explosive in any manner, and she has gotten better in controlling it. despite that, hangang has a very sensitive heart. her desire to connect with everything emotionally drives her to repress her emotions more. inside of her is a snowball that is constantly rolling and soon, it might hit its limit

a lone baby was found in a cradle beside the hangang river, with a note attached “i’m sorry, she deserves a better life than what i can give”. the couple who found her whilst strolling along the river immediately reported it to the police and the baby was placed in an orphanage. however she didn’t end up too long in it as the same couple, jeon woonki and haebyeol, visited the orphanage to adopt the child. they couldn’t conceive a child as haebyeol received ovarian cancer surgery, and the baby being there didn’t feel like a coincidence to them. they named her after the place she was found in, jeon hangang
for awhile, growing up was magical for her. her home was filled with a hearty meal by her funny father and she gets to see all the beautiful nature nurtured by the hands of her charismatic mother. despite being shy and more reserved in nature, she was loved by all the staffs by her curiosity and her want to learn things. she was living a good life, but it was all changed when her parents adopted another child. hangang was initially slightly excited and giddy to have a sister, someone that she can share her life with and have a special bond with. unfortunately, it didn’t turn out that way.
gahyeong came from a unhealthy family background and is a problem child within the orphanage, but her parents seemingly want to give her a second chance at having a loving family after seeing how lonely she seemed. it was a challenge for them, but it was what moulded hangang’s current personality. gahyeong constantly bullied her and instils fear in her heart, seemingly fighting her for their parent’s attention. her older sister likes to mock her want for a sisterly bond and blatantly told her that she doesn’t want a sister like hangang, constantly calling her useless for not being able to do anything
being the child that hangang was, this resulted in her going to her parents more and asking for their doting love, in which they reciprocated as they wanted to keep their child happy. gahyeong seemed to grow even more angry at that fact and becomes more devious, guilt tripping her for giving their parents a hard time and mocking her for being a crybaby. but it was eventually found out by their parents, gahyeong reprimanded for it. her father decided to help her in a healthy way, by monitoring her whilst helping around the cafe. resentful gahyeong however manages to slip in every now and then telling her that repression is better. naive and afraid of being a burden, she started to do as gahyeong said. they eventually grew apart, as gahyeong was forced to spend more time working at the garden with their mother and hangang is with her father at the cafe, only meeting each other after closing time
the exposure to the staff and the customers was rough at first, but definitely helped in shaping more of her positive side. she gained better control of her emotions little by little and even made friends, eventually venturing out in making things that she likes to be shown to the world. but she has a long way to go to be a better person as she sets her foot outside of her home when she got accepted into a culinary school in hoyang. as a way to get her used to her life outside, her dad decided to help her by contacting an old friend of his who owns a well-known cafe in said place. after finishing her busy freshman year and finally able to make some time for a part-time job, with an anxious breath and shaking hands, she steps into the dkml cafe for her job interview
likes :
• cooking; not only does she like cooking in general, she has a lot of satisfaction when she's making it for people that she holds dear to her
• making home cafe videos; at first she did it out of the encouragement of her best friend and she eventually came to like it, never intended to gain a following from it
• rabbits and bugs; she loves animals in general and is more comfortable around them, but her those two are her favourite. she particularly like seeing all the animals that are in the garden
• serenity cafe; she feels at home whenever she's there
• elderly; hangang seems to be less rigid and anxious around the elderly, she's far more comfortable being in their company and have no problem helping them. but she still gets flustered and becomes more shy if they came unto her too strongly
• hoody; her favourite artist, you would hear her voice in the cafe when she's allowed to put her own playlist
• honey buns with custard filling; her father made her those to reward her whenever she does her best in being the waitress/cashier for the day, it is her comfort food
• outgoing & talkative people; hangang is not the most outspoken person out there, so she's always attracted to people who are very friendly and can talk for them & her. whether it's some sort of envy or admiration, she's always happy whenever she has people like that around her
dislikes :
• talking to strangers; her worst nightmare, she doesn't know how to approach people so she's extremely grateful when someone goes to her first instead
• being cashier/waitress; stems from the previous dislike, she prefers to be the one behind the scene making the drinks or foods. she's okay with calling out the customer's name to collect their items, but becomes a bumbling mess once they ask her about something. but she's trying her best in her people skills
• failed recipe; mistakes happens all the time, but hangang can't help but sulk whenever her recipe fails
• pressure; she does not work well under pressure and would become a time bomb if she continues to be pressured
• loud & sudden noises; it always makes her feel anxious and afraid, like something bad is going to happen. one of the reason why she doesn't go to concerts
• thunderstorm; stems from her fear of loud noises, she also doesn't like it when the sky darkens
• conflict; hangang would be the first one to flee out of the room whenever someone is fighting with each other or the tension can be felt in the air. thus she also doesn't like confrontation and would immediately be scared and cry whenever someone does that to her

• she has two instagram; @rivertokki where she posts all her home cafe and baking posts, she has gained quite the following from there. the other one is @j.hangang which she kept private and never revealed to any of her followers in her other account, only people who knows her personally get to follow her

• she's currently taking baking and pastry arts in hoyang culinary school
• she's the third of the top three in her class when it comes to her grades
• at holidays, she works full time at serenity cafe
• serenity cafe & garden prides themselves for beng a joint business of the jeon couple. the eco-friendly cafe has an outdoor garden ambience and even indoors it is b with plants & flowers with varying menu items. the cafe itself has the view of serenity garden. a flower shop alongside an organic vegetable farm that is trusted by the locals. the garden provides ingredients for the cafe and the staff of the cafe provides the food for them in exchange. serenity garden also offers gardening and flower arrangement courses
• despite not working at the garden often, she has sufficient knowledge in gardening and helps there when she has the time
• hangang receives her barista certification at 17 years old
• she feeds the stray animals around the cafe. she encounters cats a lot so she always has cat treats with her

• she's not only good at making pastries or cafe food, but she also regularly cooks. but she's not planning on taking the professional route for that and stick to home cooking. she excels in making traditional korean food
• although initially was really scared about it, hangang bakes a lot for her roommates to give feedback about it. she's always nervous because she wants to be better at baking and even if she's literally shaking in her boots, she needs other people's opinion and what better way than to ask them

• 카페 공주 cafe princess / a lot of staffs and regulars of serenity cafe get to see the young lady grow up and many have called her the resident's princess, which causes her to be really embarrassed / serenity cafe's staffs and regulars
• 토끼 bunny / her home cafe instagram has gained a lot of following and she never revealed her real name, so they resort to calling her tokki-nim or bunny-nim. hangang decided to just go with it, some of her friends calls her that just to / instagram followers & few friends
rarely wears any makeup because she feels it's inconvenient to wear it in the kitchen (plus she never learned how to do makeup) but she'll wear lip balm or lip tint to keep her lips from cracking
