How do ficfests work?

So I've been intrigued by many things as of late. Firstly, apply fics but I have a long way to go before learning about that. Secondly, ficfests. I'm an EXO fan but I'm super inactive on Twitter and only get news from Reddit or my sister. She's the one who's been encouraging me to join ficfests but thing is, I can't seem to understand how it works. It's so confusing and with this confusion, it's also a tad restraining. There's so much I don't understand about how that works. Can anyone explain to me how it works? I'd ask my sister but she'll just tell me to "go on Twitter and read a bout them". Is there any ficfests that's not based on Twitter? Do I really need a Twitter account?

Fic fests are events (not necessarily contests with winners) where people gather together to write different stories of a band. They’re usually set up so that fans can write in prompts in a given amount of time (sometimes weeks), then writers choose whichever prompts they want to write and tell the host (one writer per prompt) and then there’s a deadline for when the story has to be finished.
As the deadline nears, the hosts gather all the stories and post them on a platform for all to read.

Sometimes it’s done anonymously and the last part consists of “revealing” the authors. I think this is done to avoid popularity-contests. If you find a summary you like, read it and enjoy the story. The prompts are usually extremely creative - I sometimes enjoy just looking through the prompt archive. ^_^

They do exist on AFF, though my own personal experience is that AFF hosts a lot more contests with certain rules and with winners. Ficfests are usually a lot less restrictive and is usually only limited to a band.

I use tumblr when I look for ficfests but most big fests are hosted on multiple platforms so the message is spread out to as many fans as possible.

I noticed you tagged EXO as well. chenpionships is one of my personal favorite EXO ficfests and looking at past fests might help with what they’re all about.

I found this link as well; https://yeahexofics.tumblr.com/festsandexchanges

It could be helpful? ^_^

Hello! 'wave hand'

There are ficfest here in AFF. You can start one or join one.

Depending on the author or the one who leads it, what preferences, rules, prompts, conditions set, time limit (example, submit until Dec. 31), given max or min words etc. Winner gets gifts (could be karma, etc. ). Possible different genre, (depending on the preferences of the author). Even if it's specific person or band or all kpop artists and bands are allowed. You can have guests judges, too.

I don't know if I explained it clearly lol
