AVA CAN BE A RATHER SILLY AND AIRHEADED CREATURE. SHE ALWAYS MEANS WELL AND TO BE BETTER, BUT INEVITABLY SHE'S THE ONE WHO IS GOING TO ACTUALLY END UP FORGETTING THE LYRICS OF THEIR OWN SONG. She would literally lose her head if it weren't attached. But with that is an airy lofTiness to the way Ava thinks. Life is great, lets go on an adventure, don't take things too personally, be kind, be open. Ava lives for the moment and is always happy to try new things and take the first step if needed. Ava is happy to be here and is happy if you're here with her too. She has no issues chatting with others or being the first to start a conversation. Ava is an open book and is honest to a fault since she doesn't find, or realize, the point in holding back.

BACKGROUND

SO SHE JUST STARES AT ME AFTER I TELL HER I WANT TO BE A TRAINEE IN KOREA FOR KPOP. LIKE, LITERALLY JUST STARES AT ME FOR A FULL MINUTE, AND JUST SAYS 'AVA MY LOVE, I BIRTHED YOU FROM MY LOINS, AND I CAN'T EVEN UNDERSTAND YOUR KOREAN.' WHAT DOES THAT MEAN? WHAT DOES THAT EVEN MEAN???"
Avery Kim's grandparents came to the U.S. when they were young, married, and had their children who in turn had Avery. Growing up, Avery was usually the token asian in their group of friends by appearance only as her parents did not act like the stereotyped Korean parents one might think from the dramas and shows. As long as Ava, as they called her, was happy and healthy, they were happy for her to be herself. While Ava speaks decent Korean, reading and writing it has never been her strength, nor did her parents enforce the language fluency on her. Aside from her actual ethnicity, her being Korean was mostly a side note to her.
If anything, Ava was far more into Japanese than Korean. Anime, Manga, Videogames, hoo boy. Her bedroom was plastered with posters and walls of merchandise. She speaks and reads Japanese better than Korean through sheer force of will and desire. This love though also paved the way towards music however, much to her mothers delight. Ava has always been singing, but it's only when she wanted to sing anime and game OSTs that she really wanted to get good at it. Thanks to a musically inclined and trained mother, Ava had lots of resources growing up even when small to pursue and hone this craft...along with her weebness.
But this all culminated in Ava going to Korea and becoming an Idol when she started uploading kpop covers at the request of a friend who was far more into Kpop than Ava was. Ava became enamoured with the beautiful people she saw there.Her parents listened to western music and some classical, so Ava's exposure to kpop was limited. She'd only been the the kpop rabbit hole for a year when her Aunt, who lived in korea, asked her to come visit.
The visit was for Ava to audition for Cygnus. Her aunt was dating an employee of Cygnus at the time and apparently had shown them a few of Ava's videos from her cover music channel on YouTube. Seeing as they needed to debut a girl group and fast with no trainees available, Ava was essentially scouted on the spot.
Stars in her eyes and visions of beautiful stage outfits, colorful MVs, and gorgeous people, Ava was more than happy to accept.

Kim Minji | Aunt | 29 | FC: Bae Woohee | Minji, or Aunt Minnie as Ava knows her, She works as an English teacher and has been in Korea for over ten years now. She acts as Ava's family while in Korea, although they have more of a big and little sister vibe. She's her dad's baby sister. Everyone points out that Minji and Ava act quite a bit alike and share a similr personality, with Minji having time and such to temper herself and become more mature and responsible. Ava was able to go to Korea to be a trainee/idol due to Minji promising to be there for her in the event things did not go as planned.She's dating an employee at Cygnus and it was through her that they found Ava's YT channel.

Ava looooves Jiho. Like, seriously. Jiho is the little sister she always wanted and Once Ava is taught about the whole "older person takes care of the younger" she is absoutely all In. Granted...it's usually Ava grabbing Jiho and dragging her along to some misadventure. Granted, Jiho tries to be her voice of reason and keep her in line...but damn, if Ava isn't just too good at overriding those sentiments and bringing her Jiho along for the ride. Poor Inree for the day that Ava coined that nickname of Inreejuma. She ment no harm by it, and Ava says it with the utmost affection for Inree. While at times Inree finds herself being the reponsible adult to Ava, Avajust appreaciates the care Inree shows her. What can Ava say? She likes attention. Inree often, unlike with Yikyung, even when she tells Ava a plan or action is bad, goe along with itnot to participate, but to referee. Ava is careless and sometimes thoughtless: Inree is there to keep her from getting into serious trouble. While intially Ava found this a little inhibiting, as she grows into herself more, Ava learns to appreciate and love the work Inree does to ensure her well being. Ava will fight for her Inreejuma. Just watch her if you think she won't.

Like night and day, you could look at their early lives on paper and might assume they surely would have come up the same. Despite spawing from similar beginnings in some ways, these two couldn't be more polar opposites. Ava is chaos, freedom, throw yourself out into the world and see what happens. Yikyung is law, order, routine, consider your steps before you jump out there. It was so awkward between the two initially since it seemed like they couldn't find common ground. Yikyung counters Ava so easily, so Ava stops asking Yikyung. Who would have ever thought these two would end up bonding over these differences? While at first it's about what the other stops them from doing, it grows into seeing what the other actually enables. Ava needs someone to keep her grounded so her ideas and plans can actually pan out to their conclusion effectively. Yikyung can't control everything, and having that person to drag you out into an adventure is good for the soul. They are night and day, but just like that they are neccessary. Who knew bonding over classical music could lead to a beautiful friendship and dynamic?

TRAINING TIME Avery Kim arrived in Korea with close to a lifetime of musical experience. Her mother, a classically trained pianist and violinist, teaches high school music and choir, while her father, who once played the cello in a String quartet for many years, now manages a music hall. Her training time prior to arriving at Cygnus comprised of years of piano and guitar, followed by school and church choir, and private vocal lessons.
And then Ava flies off to Korea and then all of a sudden she is being contacted by a rep from Cygnus and then two weeks after officially joining she is getting geared up for an actual debut. I mean, bless, what the actual heck?
Technically and officially, Ava has been a trainee for about a month or so.
TRAINEE LIFE Wait, there was a trainee life? Ava moved into the dorm and then is was all about getting this girl remotely idol ready. It as very fast paced and if Ava didn't ride the high of being an actual idol the entire time.
But she was so unpolished. Her dancing was amateur at best and if her inability to sometimes comprehend the more complex things wasn't just infuriating to the trainers and company reps. There was many a time that they came close to deciding Ava wasn't a good choice for Idyll.
But damn. If the girl couldn't hold a stable note, and damn if she wasn't at least earnest in her stupidity and eager to please.
In her very short trainee time, Ava was known for being just happy to be there half the time. She was always the first to gish and awe at other groups and debuts, eager to share and get others just as excited as she was.
It was this energy and her ability to sing that kept her in the lineup. Her dancing definitely needed to be cleaned up, and while she can follow choreo reasonably well once she is taken through it carefully and slowly, she is still at best an idol dancer.
She actually can "idol rap" a little too, though it's not a skill they note in her official profile. You can see it best during covers.

✮Idyll AVa too familiar with male idols? Ava once let it slip that she'd absolutely love to be part of the beautiful 97 liners crew. However, it was her poor command of the Korean language that ended with her actually saying, "I know that group and I get messages from them." The knetx have a field day with this, though international fans are quick to defend her.
✮Idyll's Ava not allowed to speak? There's a time during their early career that Ava is basically told not to speak in public. Cygnus didn't trust her mastery of the Korean language, and her Boston accent is fairly thick so her english isn't considered to be very prety per se. A year into their debut, she casually mentions this and it blows up.
LOVE INTEREST Han Byungtae

Does "Byuntae" count? ie: Avery can never seem to say his name right and always calls him Byuntae (meaning: ert) and it drives him insane.
Edward Han - His English name and what he used while studying abroad. He only uses this these days for Ava as a means of avoiding the Byuntae nonsense...it works maybe 20 percent of the time.
Flower Manager - While not really their manager, fans have gotten used to seeing him around and interacting with the girls. It's a term they use when referring to him in pictures until they figure out who he really is. And the fandom just sort of keeps it.

PERSONALITY Tempermental, Jaded, Compassionate, Diligent, ISTJ, Tries to be lawful but is probably closer to Neutral but Ava brings out the chaotic in him. That grumpy cat or dog on the floor who acts like he wants nothing to do with you but will still follow you out the room because how DARE you leave him alone.
Byungtae is steadfast. A fantastic time keeper and time and task manager. His reLiability and loyalty are some of the things his friends and family speak highly of him for. Simply put, Byungtae is a reliable guy.
Though...he can be tempermental and gets easily annoyed or peturbed by things. While he's fantastic at keeping his cool in a professional capacity and in stressful situations, get Byungtae talking about his personal feelings on things and he's a bit at a loss. He wouldn't say he's emotionally constipated, but more like he's terrible at expressing emotions and his inner thoughts successfully.
And this an make him a bit grumpy and disgruntled. Byungtae has been let down a few times in his life despite trying his best, and it's left him a little jaded. He's quite honestly a realist and has little use for lofty daydreams.
Despite himself, Byungtae is genuinely kind, and it's really not that hard to play on his sympathies really. The people around him find that 9/10, he will do what's asked of him for others because he does care even if he protests. He's a softie who's bark is far worse than his bite honestly. And certain people can fully take advantage of this *ahemavayoubrat*.
LOVE STORY Byungtae starts off working for Cygnus an intern despite the company being new and small. Honestly, it was because Byungtae was trying to hurry and get into the workforce after having completed his military service and nearing the end of his university career. As a teenager, he had tried to become a idol trainee himself, but was rejected time and time again, and therefore decided he would work in the industry either as management or something similar.
Timetables and schedules are is bread and butter, and Byungtae's level headedness and preparednessmade him a good fit for the role. He came to Cygnus because he wanted to work with Beomsu and thought a smaller company would be a good idea. Bt, it can be frustating working at a smaller company though. With this smaller company means less likelihood of being hired on fulltime after university. Not to mention Byungtae is still a little bitter he never seemed to be good enough to be an idol even with good looks and a reasonable voice.
One day, disgruntled and tired Byungtae meets one Avery Kim.
What happens when the darkest stormy cloud meets the sun? Rainbows damnit. That's what Ava will tell you about their first meeting. Byungtae will tell you he somehow ended up with the most persistent and empty headed parasite ever.
Byungtae is in his last term of university and is dreading what his future might bring. He then runs into this very confused girl at the office trying her damnest to read some directions. He recognizes her american english and offers to help her since he's fluent in English from studying abroad. FRom then on, this Trainee he meets, Avery or Ava as she prefers, always comes to find him in the company when she needs help with something.
To his credit, Byungtae at first is nothing but nice to her. But she is frustrating. How can anyone be this...dumb and stupidly optimistic and happy??? He's very stubborn in not denying to himself he's actually attracted to her. Despite his protests, Ava can ask him for nearly anything and he will usually agree.
Ava at first thinks he's a nice guy, and honestly its nice to have someone to talk to sometimes not in their group. He's also so cute when he gets flustered. Ava honestly just really, and truly, appreciates him being around, and respects his work and reliability. He's a good guy. Did she mention she thinks he's hot too? Because she does. Nice and eye candy. Great combo. It's a little juvenile, but she pesters him the most because it gets his attention and he doesn't seem to mind it too much.
Eventually, Byungtae is hired on full time with Cygnus and he works very closely with Idyll in some capacity (not sure if as a rjunior staff member, assistant manage, etc, I leave this to you to pick so he fits in the best). He develops a good relationship with all the girls as he helps manage them and assist them with just about everything. He's a constant in their professional lives.
And through all that Ava is there and their dance of Ava teasing and pestering him and Byungtae letting her get away with it continues. More than once he's helped sneak food to the girls at Ava's begging.
If asked why she does it, Ava will say its fun. In a moment of realistic clarity, she says she knows he's just being nice..and part of her is worried he will leave her if she stops getting his attention. It's a little childish, she knows. But Ava really likes him.
To be fair, Byungtae has always been really bad at articulting his actual feelings, and really he was drawn to the bright personality of Ava. She drives him nuts at times honestly and pushes his patience, but if he isn't just a little bit more enamoured with her than he likes to let on. He likes her candor and energy because it's real and unpretencious. He's actually really worried that being an idol will kill her spirit one day...ugh, why is he so worried about her all the time? This brat...
Eventually, frustrated on his feelings on the matter and confused by them and Ava' presense, he one day just lashes out at her verbally and asks her why the hell does she just hang on him so much for everything?
"Oh...because you were the first person here who was genuinely nice to me. I'm sorry..."
It's awkard after that with Ava making sure to leave him alone from then on. She doesn't ask him for things, doesn't go to him if she's bothered, she just...leaves him alone. But I leave their final ending to you! I always want a happy ending, but that doesn't always hav to mean happily together if it doesn't work with the story. Either way, I'd be happy if they just grew from this into better people at the very least.
