height & weight 164cm & 49kg
APPEARANCE jiho's been over this. she goes over it whenever she catches sight of her reflection unprepared. her features are fine (individually). she has a pretty smile, she's average height, she's thin, her skin gets compliments every once in a while, her eyes might still look like monolids after the surgery but they're not bad. her nose is really the only thing that looks out of place, that and her round face.
when you put everything together with her weird bone structure, that's when it all goes to . that's why she doesn't have a predebut instagram full of pictures. but it's whatever, she could be uglier. she has nice features, individually.
STYLE the comment sections of the most popular studios jiho's taken classes in are full of foreigners complimenting their outfits. of course, there are exceptions, but based on the dancers she knows, dancers dress pretty well and jiho is no exception. she doesn't have a particularly distinct style, but she pulls together some really cute street-style inspired looks.
tl;dr: blunt and ironic hardworking icon with a heart of gold meets self-hating robot. moody teenager.
the girl who's been dancing since she was six but lends a hand to beginners at dance class every time, that's jiho. always carefully, though. she waits for her best chance to say something, the right moment, as to not make the other person uncomfortable. not because she's shy, necessarily, she just likes to be prepared (until she blurts something out and throws all the preparation out the window with her dry humor).
that's jiho, prepared. structured and methodical, she has a strong sense of responsibility: no matter how dreadful a task might be, no matter the mental breakdowns she has along the way, no matter how disatisfied she is with the result, she gets the job done. she wants to do it. because finishing a rap verse or teaching someone a choreography is so fulfilling to jiho that she doesn't care if her rhyme structure is basic or a couple eight counts look (in her eyes) wonky.
A HELPLESS PESSIMIST AND A STUBBORN PERFECTIONIST, jiho TEARs HERSELF DOWN over minor things that other people don't notice. the funny thing is she's internalized it to a degree where it doesn't stop her. around people she trusts, jiho makes fun of her inner saboteur in the same candid and straightforward way she usually speaks (not necessarily hurtful. less "your dancing ", more "if we don't manage our time we're gonna crash and burn"). if things are truly bad, she gets more withdrawn and faces her meltdowns and crippling self doubt within the confines of her mind (not her room 'cause practice tends to drag on).
jiho is, she has realized, the anti-idol. she's hyperaware of the downsides of trainee lfie and constantly doubting whether she should be here, but that's a relatively minor concern. you see, the stage is her empire, where she excels, the studio is her second home, but fanservice is excruciating. variety shows are overkill. she's a private person with no greed for the cameras and she can't pretend to be someone she's not. jiho just wants to dance and be creative and write lyrics and say "" backstage, she doesn't want the cfs and the solo stans. in the most literal sense, she's here for the spotlight —and, as bizarre as it sounds, she's here to share it too.
BACKGROUND born and raised in seoul, ever since jiho joins her first dance studio at age six, her parents joke that she wants what she can't have. when she's doing jazz dance, she says she wants to do hip hop. she insists on getting bangs for months but she leaves the hair salon crying after the haircut. having taken hip hop for years, she regrets not learning contemporary.
but she's excellent, their dear jiho. she does well at school and she's even better at dance. from a young age, she's so responsible and dedicated. your token "gifted" kid, the overachiever, that's jiho. she's a perfectionist, her standards for her own work exceptionally high. many times throughout her life she reaps the benefits: high class rankings, dance competition trophies, her self-taught rapping skills. but many times she suffers from it, from being worse than she'd like to be, uglier than she'd like to be, lazier than she'd like to be.
for that, idol singers are one of her biggest fascinations. secretly, she dances or writes lyrics in her room with a big stage and a crowd in mind. secretly, because from a young age, jiho knows idols don't look like her. from a not so young age, jiho knows the pressure put on idols to be perfect and she knows that she already puts more than enough pressure on herself. she knows some former trainees from her dance classes and they have horror stories to tell, something like broken promises, stolen youths and debt (so much debt).
the idea is always there, just not seriously. the same way hundreds of teenagers say they'll drop out of school and be strippers, jiho says she'll be an idol. until one day she makes the mistake of telling a scared ex-trainee friend from dance class who still dreams of debut to go for it. if that's what'll make her feel brave enough to try again, jiho will audition so she can be in the room with her.
when jiho sings and raps in front of jung beomsu, he thinks she's good. her rap is more than good, but rappers are expendable (especially when they look like her). then jiho dances. jiho dances and she makes the mistake of signing that trainee contract. foolishly, she thinks, she reaches out to get what she can't have.
TRIVIA
— jiho Learnt how to rap essentially because she thought it was cool and she liked rap music (also because she was complimented on her rapping like once and it's stuck with her for life).
— writing lyrics takes her forever but she likes doing it. she can't deny that her favorite part is finishing though, going through the finished verses makes her feel like she can do anything.
— has taken dance classes at many studios throughout her life and did a handful of battles, so she knows a lot of people in the dance scene. her main genre is hip hop/urban
— the kind of person who gets awkward/flustered when you compliment her but she's so sincerely thankful. even if she doesn't believe it or if she believes it's "generally true but..." she tries not to deny compliments
— tends to use "should" and "have to" instead of "want to/would like to/feel pressured to" when she speaks. it's "i have to stay for extra practice", not "i want to". she says "i shouldn't hog the camera for so long" instead of "i feel uncomfortable being on camera so long".
— uses cuss words so so frequently when she speaks. will probably be the first idyll member to get bleeped out on broadcast.
— her favorite kpop group as a kid was 2ne1. she listens to their music for the nostalgia factor every once in a while
turns out eunsol is great. she's great at everything. she dances, she sings, she raps, she charms your socks off, she can do tarot and she draws. and jiho, who desperately needs a break from the pressure of being great, loves that.
so she's always there to hype her up. she helped her sharpen her rapping skills, she drives her crazy with her self-deprecating jokes and she tells eunsol she should be thankful she hates herself, "otherwise i'd eat up all the screentime, beauty standards be damned". she's much more thankful for her friendship than she imagined she'd be.
but it's not with envy that jiho looks at the older girl, not at all. it's more like the specific sort of fascination that comes with unfamiliarity. WHERE DOES SHE GET ALL OF THAT AMBITION FROM? how amazing is it that, having an average skillset, she can perform so confidently? why does she eat up every room she's in? jiho may never fully understand or relate to ok miso, but she sure as hell doesn't mind letting her shine.

TRAINING TIME 8 months at cygnus entertainment
TRAINEE LIFE skill-wise, jiho didn't have much trouble adjusting, but the uncertainty and high pressure of training meant she had her work cut out for her.
honestly speaking, she wasn't her most carefree and socially well disposed self while training, but jiho believes she got the hang of it by the end. and for all the times she wanted to pull her hair out, there were just as many accomplishments and tiny little good moments. it's a balance, she tells herself. balance. thank god she doesn't have to do it again though because it .

OTHER NAMES
hami the idol stage name she never had. it's in her ig username and, when she's not touring, the posts promoting her dance classes read hami under her picture (ham minji to the left or below in parenthesis).
FACECLAIM yeoreum from wjsn
BIRTHDATE april 15, 1999
PERSONALITY exhubertant, open-minded, humorous, conflicted, emotional, impulsive, regretful.
minji's a lot like your run-of-the-mill youthful and lively girl. she's got energy, witty comebacks, jokes so weird they're good and a "down for everything" attitude. she became jiho's friend, more or less, because she got her jokes.
but minji is also emotional and impulsive, a terrible combination that causes her regularly scheduled identity crises. where jiho has feelings, feelings about her feelings and feelings about those feelings, minji goes into things no thoughts heady empty. it doesn't matter (OR WORSE, IT SEEMS LIKE IT'LL BE OKAY) in the heat of the moment, but when she has to face repercussions she feels so very terrible and takes it to heart. because that's how she is too, she tends to take things to heart and just feel. and those feelings pile up, they don't leave easily.
LOVE STORY long story short: minji was the friend who was meant to get into cygnus when jiho auditioned. they reconnect and it turns out different from what either of them could have imagined.
now here's the long story.
it's kind of funny, actually. money does make the world go 'round. ham minji became a woollim trainee so many years ago on a whim, a young girl with no clue what she was doing. she wanted to make the same mistake again and rack up more debt, but that honor ended up going to jiho. with hasty high school qualifications and debt (it was just three years, jesus), her chosen path as a backup dancer leads her to a waiting room at a music show. cramped amongst the other rookies is, you guessed it, jeon jiho.
it's great to have a friend to rely on backstage. they have stupid conversations together while the other members are getting their makeup and hair done and it lets jiho forget about... all of this, whatever this is. it makes her feel like nothing's changed.
when idyll get phones and a sliver of free time, she calls minji when she's touring with a group. they text frequently and, once in a while, when they can afford such luxury, they actually hang out together. jiho tells minji not to cut her bangs by herself and then tells her they look great (because she ended up cutting them anyways), minji sends her songs and viral videos after a long day of schedules. they've always had this sort of connection, but it grows stronger. maybe even in ways they can't understand.
ENDING
ALL JIHO SEES, THOUGH, IS HER BEST FRIEND PULLING AWAY FROM HER. SLIPPING THROUGH HER FINGERS.
"i think you fit in great as an idol," she tells jiho. "you have talent and charisma and people can turn to you during a hard time. 'cause you're not a wreck. but you don't think that. that's why you think you don't belong."
they drift apart, many things left unsaid. minji returns to her hometown, jiho learns the ways of the fansign venues and variety sets. maybe they'll meet again.
