THIS WOULDN'T DO any longer, she needed a change. SHE COULDN'T AFFORD TO MANAGE THIS length anymore SO WITH A PAIR OF CRAFTING SCISSORS that a classmate allowed her to borrow for an anatomy project, THE waist-length RINGLETS was EXCHANGED FOR a shorter length and bangs even. SATISFIED WITH HER "EXPERIMENT", INREE DECIDED TO AMP UP HER NEW LOOK WITH an EYELINER THAT had only been collecting dust in her bathroom's drawer.
this was a style she would have never been able to wear comfortably in her parents' presence. they would have cursed her, made her feel like some cheap broad and then remind her that she had "an image to uphold". their vexation with her younger brother and his stage make-up, made matters ten times worst for her but the more inree gazed at herself, the more she loved how the eyeliner accentuated her eyeshape. she wondered if she could pull off colored contacts too or blonde hair? "ah, perhaps today is that day," she thought to herself.
le STYLE neat and tidy had always been the motto for inree's style. from kitten heels, skirts paired with crisp blazers and stockings galore, inree was the defintion of prim and proper until she was forced to attend university at her own expense. cropped tops, BASIC or band T-SHIRTS, HOODIES, tennis shoes AND SKINNY JEANS or skirts (you can think rv's bad boy era) BECAME "THE NORM" AND SHE NEVER FELT MORE LIKE a relaxed version of HERSELF but she'd be a liar if she didn't miss the more put-together image.

leaning over the medical terminology book, inree finds herself sitting idle for far too long, burning holes into the text below with the utmost persistence (끈기) without really absorbing the terms. ranking in the top 10% (지능) of the nursing major (Read: uber smartass), lee inree doesn't deserve (오만) to have any of this to blow up in her face when she's spent so many countless hours, cramming in the midst of serving disgruntled customers at her part time job or in the stalls of the campus bathrooms right before an important test. "you'll make such a GREAT nurse, it was never meant for you to become some rag-tag singer like your brother" her parents would always remind her but in the crevices of her heart, it was never what inree truly wanted to pursue. she chose medical to appease her folks, in fear of furthering damaging their already deteriorating relationship (분석적).
"miss," one of the customers gruffly calls out in her direction and hastily, she's at his beck and call just as her boss instructed her to be. "could you make another one of those bloody marys, pretty lady?"
internally (조심성 있는), she wants to flinch at the underlining tones of the seemingly innocent request as his lewd gaze drops to her s but externally, she plasters on a sweet smile and responds with a yes sir, sure thing (공손한) before whipping up the requested beverage. after a long, grueling shift, inree returns home to a letter from the university. with excitement, she quickly rips it open, skims the contents knowing just how pivotal this letter would mean for her career in medicine only to be met with rejection instead. she found herself colliding with the very emotion of betrayal and all hope is shattered, once again. the university "suggested" she take a few courses more before reconsidering her application but she was hardly making end's meet now without the assistance of an additional income.
SO, just HOW WAS SHE GOING TO BREAK IT TO HER PARENTS THAT SHE WOULDN'T BE A NURSE ANY TIME SOON? inree knew that this result would place a huuuge damper on the relationship she was desperately trying to repair (분석적). she remembers injae's words so vividly the day their parents unclaimed him, "even if it's not the path that was forcibly bestowed onto you, you are the one that decides and you have to live with that decision."
at the ripe age of twenty-four, wasn't it time for inree to consider pursuing her own dream? isn't it time for her live before it's too late and she turn out bitter like her folks? she tried it twice now, isn't the third time the charm?

2011 despite the strict set of rules, inree obliged as an obedient daughter would, making her parents proud in any way she could. when teenage years came about, injae began to show hidden signs of resentment which was met with harsh criticism and mindless threats. around the same time-frame when inree became wildly interested in k-pop, an escape route from her studious lifestyle. while the house was in an uproar over injae's disobendience, inree's interest was growing and then one day, she decided she'd tag along with injae for an audition after weeks of helping him practice unbeknowest to the adults' knowledge.
2012 injae had admitted years ago that he greatly admired tvxq's max and would love to grow up to be just like him—in a group—performing for others on stages all across the continent of asia. and after researching shim changmin and watching music videos of tvxq then dbsk then jyj, inree could understand her brother's ambition even if it was not the path that their parents would have preferred.
the sm building was buzzing with so much choatic, anxious energy and rambunctions activity with many talented people auditioning. and injae being a big-time prankster at the time, tricked inree into auditioning as well and so with barely any practice, she did. and sm seemed to like it, sensing something that not either sibling could comprehend. and unexpectantly, they were both accepted as trainees but would inree's parents be pleased that she was taking direction of her own life?

2013 so, the siblings chose to train under sm in secrecy. and one may ask, "how was that possible?" well, with the constant pressure of having to prepare for college and university admission exams, both lee siblings did manage to attend a few of those sessions during the week but often left early or in the midst of in order to make it to training. the administrators never questioned it nor did either of the siblings have to explain their early dismissal; it wasn't entirely unusual for teenagers to leave a session early especially when injae and inree had always maintained stellar grades.
but after a few months under the rigorous training program and balancing school on top of it all, they knew that they could not put in the same commitment as others. it was obvious in evaluations or whenver they held up the class to go over a note or choreography but soon, it would all blow up in their faces when they're both called to the head manager's office to meet their disappointed parents' faces head-on.
from that day forth, injae decided to pursue his own dream and audition for another small company, whereas inree was stuck, insecure and conflicted. did she really want to disobey her parents further than she already had?
perhaps being an idol was never meant for her, anyway. an idol career seemed so selfish, or at least that's how her parents viewed it.
what does being an idol, prancing around and singing, contribute to the world?
the people who provided for her...neither of them trusted her anymore and injae's communication with her lessened after he moved to the dorms provided by dm entertainment and honestly, inree felt her world crumble. she didn't have the voice or ambition like her brother, so what else would spineless lee inree do?
"take the exam for university or get the hell out of this house," her father growled as he leveled a penetrating glare in her direction. "remember that injae is the disgrace, it was never you."
and so, she chose the latter. she passed the exam into an all women's university and started her first semester with a catch. inree would have to move into the dorms and pay for expenses on her own such as books, supplies and other essentials. she could not ask for money or apply for an additonal loan to fund her education. everything else would be controlled by her parents' accummulated wealth over the years and if she didn't make it into the nursing program in the next few years, she would have to continue her education without financial assistance in regards to the tuition payments.
2017 the bad news had yet to transpire from her conscience when inree finds herself openly gaping at the strange but oddly familiar man in front of her. he had convinced her to keep him company at a reserved table within the expensive restaurant since she was waiting out the dreadful thunderstorm. despite desperately wanting to decline, inree joined anyhow.
"your singing is rather sweet." his rich voice boomed within the confines of the secluded area. shifting uncomfortably (섬세한), inree figured she would respond to the man's compliment instead of awkwardly ignoring it.
"barely," she'd quipped in return rather bluntly, surprising even herself (섬세한) and the response made him chuckle as well. luckily, he did not voice his displeasure with her comment and sent her a comforting smile instead.
"what do you mean?" she barely manages to ask, her eyes penetrating his with suspicion. just who was this guy? and what right did he have to ask her if she missed singing? it wasn't common knowledge to anyone that inree used to be a trainee, unless...
"Your parents may have not seen the value you could have added to a group's dynamic but i remember you quite well, miss lee." the man chuckles, "the lee siblings who was dragged out of the program by their control-freak parents because they wanted to choose what to do with their own lives. it's really nice to see injae thriving in axiz, but what about you?"

injae is one of the main vocalists of a boy group under dm entertainment called axiz that debuted in january of 2016. they're pretty popular but not on the same level as nct, ikon or even bts for that matter. regardless, injae mentions his sister quite often in interviews
when asked about family members he's close to or is inspired by. injae often comes to inree for his girl problems as his girlfriend happens to be a soloist under the same company as he and often expresses his woes because if he can't confide in inree, who else would be there for him? kwon shinyoung is the light in inree's seemingly spinster life or she tries to be when the latter isn't annoyed by shinyoung's constant "uplifting, inspirational" speeches. in such a cut-throat industry as this, it's amazing that inree has someone to call on whenever she's feeling down and it just happens to be 
shinyoung. despite inree's departure, shinyoung remained behind at sm entertainment under the acting roster instead of idol training. they often meet up for café-hopping, gossping and mall trips whenever shinyoung called to an audition and requires a new outfit.faceclaim 이선미.

go ahra (aya) is eerily similar to inree in terms of growing up only to displease their parents in the decision 
they choose to make with their own life. but it tends to be the only thing that the two women can relate to in terms of compatibility. ahra and inree's personalties are like night and day, where inree tends to be on the "stricter" side of matters, ahra throws caution to the wind. in retrospect, inree wishes she had turned out a bit more like ahra but other times, inree's the one that has to calm down ahra's dramatics like the time ahra stubbed her toe in practice and nearly combusted on the spot. ahra is the type of person that inree would have kept at a distance but often times finds herself looking forward to hanging out with. especially when aya tends to seek her out for a noraebang session and states, "unnie, you have got to let loose so why not do it at karaoke?"faceclaim twice's 사나.

TRAINEE LIFE
2012 - 2013, inree was in her final year of high school and was busy prepping for the college exams when she lucked up on a chance to audition all thanks to her scheming brother, injae. she hadn't expected to make it into an entertainment company, especially one of the most popular ones but yet, they saw something in her that would more than likely fit the idea of a cutesy concept if they wanted to make another girls' generation, despite not being nearly as talented as others... and boy, did those girls remind her any chance they could grab.
"if you didn't miss practice as often, maybe you'd improve." one of them had mocked loudly when inree entered the practice room late.
"but, she has," shinyoung spoke up next as she sent the irritable girl a scathing glare. "she still sings better than you, gayoung."
"she sure as hell can't dance better," another snorted as the rest joined in laughter. shinyoung only rolled her eyes as inree made her way to an empty spot at the back of the studio, the instructor displeased with the late arrival, once again.
"school is obliviously important to you," the instructor began in a low voice as she approached the teenager while the others continued to cackle like wild hyenas in the background, "but if it's coming between your ability to be here to effectively learn, perhaps being an idol just isn't for you."
to say that inree was a little taken aback by the commentary, would be an understatement and shinyoung worried glances throughout the duration of the remaining practice, told inree she wasn't hiding it all that well. and perhaps, this was the mark that started inree's downward spiral of bad luck. the harder she tried, the more trainers forced pressure and then, the more time she missed, the more she was reprimended.
interesting enough, when the contract was terminated at sm entertainment, inree felt a smidgen of relief that she wouldn't have to face this type of torture anymore but...even then, inree remained conflicted because she actually enjoyed the process of becoming an idol minus the bullying aspects.
2016, INREE almost AUDITIONS as an individual trainee (what the? inree auditioned for pd101 behind her parents' back again? yes, she wanted to, tried to) ON A WHIM WITH THE SUPPORT OF shinyoung. AND THEN, AS IF god is punishing HER, SHE CATCHES A SEVERELY, TERRIBLE COLD AND HAS TO give up the notion. "GODDAMMIT, MAYBE THE IDOL LIFE ISN'T FOR ME," INREE POUTS BEFORE SHE BREAKS OUT INTO A FIT OF COUGHING.
"INREE, PLEASE SHUT UP AND TAKE YOUR MEDICINE so you can stop choking," shinyoung SCOLDS AS SHE SHOVES THE MEDICATION TOWARDS HER.
till this day, she never really mentions this and shinyoung doesn't bring it up either.
2017, at cygnus, it was a completely different story. being the eldest in the bunch, inree felt a little out of place and god forbid the american girl, avery for nick-naming her inreejumma. the others kind of treated her like a fragile senior citizen instead of just another wanting to achieve a dream. sure, inree wasn't a dancer and A DECENT lead vocalist (MAYBE?) but cygnus considered her stable and having a sweet voice really helped her case with the image they wanted to obtain with the future girl group project.
and then of course, the girls SEEMED TO dote on her because she happened to be one of the smallest (if not the smallest) to top it all off. trainee life at cygnus was much more bearable, worth-WHILE AND SEEMINGLY OBTAINABLE. PERHAPS BECAUSE THIS TIME, THE CHOICE IS HERS TO MAKE.

LOVE STORY
여자, since leaving it all behind and having to focus all of her energy into training under cygnus, the last thing on inree's mind was romance. if she wanted to improve within a decent amount of time, training would be her priority. so, she does just that for an entire year. she works diligently until beomsu considers her ready and then, she's shoved into the spotlight of the stage, her heart rate consistently pumping with adrenaline as the other girls fall into position.
and the debut goes by in a whirlwind but as inree is descending the stage, her eyes catches the image of a familiar figure running by with other staff. his dark tresses, his lean stature reminds inree of the hardworking guy she used to work with over a year ago. he had been a student like she, but he was a senior compared to the many years she had left to become a nurse.
handsome and reliable, at first inree tried to ignore him on many ocassions but then the manager instructed that she train him instead. and being the obedient employee she was, she did as she was told. but as the weeks went on, seongi started to protect her in a sense especially whenever she tried to slip in work for university or catch a slight nap in the midst of breaks.
she often thanked him quietly in passing while carrying trays or with a sleepy simper across the room; the two had never really exchanged a lot of words, just a few pleasantries here and there because words were never really needed, their main focus being income. but then, beomsu came in that day to "dine" and presented a proposition at a time in her life where everything seemed to be going wrong for her. and she didn't even get a chance to tell everyone goodbye because the very next day, she had packed up all of her belongings and was in a company van on her way to another district.
there were times at night that inree would drift off to sleep just as seongi's kind but worried eyes would come into view. there were moments in the morning when inree would fetch a cup of coffee from cygnus's canteen that seongi would come to mind with his little knowing smirk.
january 2018, but as the employee continues on down the hallway and she walks in the opposite direction following her group members, inree can't help but wonder what ki seongi is up to these days.
남자, he remembers Inree from the few times they had served together at the Gangnam restaurant before she disappeared off the face of the earth. from the way everyone spoke such great things about the lee inree, seongi figured she was off succeeding at a place like a prestigious hospital or a well known doctor's office. what seongi didn't expect was to find his younger brother and sister spazzing over a girl group called idyll and a girl's—who is eerily similar to inree's—face front and center on the television speaking into a microphone. while his siblings began to explain who was who to him, seongi almost confessed to possibly knowing the eldest of the group, "i think she's the leader, maybe?" he replied when his sister asked who he thought was attractive. "older girls typically like her, maybe they'll be on the show you work for, soon!" she had responded before the subject was changed to another member. still gaping at the woman in a pretty, sequin number, seongi thinks back to the few times that he had last seen inree.
inree was always nice to him. especially, when he'd first started, she had been the one to help train him. however, seongi couldn't help but notice the darkening circles under her eyes, the little yawns she tried to sneak before anyone caught her, the constant need for coffee. none of it ever escaped him and the more he paid attention inree, the more he would notice. such as, the length of her hair over a period of tiresome months, the way her body would seemingly ache as she stretched out a stiff ligament or the way she would huff out some rather colorful wording under her breath whenever dealing with an irate customer but still displaying kindness.
he would pretend he didn't see her studying behind the hostess counter or warn her when another was coming close. he would cover for her whenever the manager was looking for her while she knocked out an assignment for class before the deadline. ki seongi did what he could for inree without either of them realizing the gravity of his actions but of course, she always thanked him. and he always appreciated the gratitude. but as the months carried on further, with seongi was soon to be graduating all while applying for jobs at local studios...inree, well, she had up and quit out of the blue without a resignation.
despite the two never really having called one another a friend, seongi found himself often thinking of inree. was she okay? how did school end for her? is she a nurse now?
late 2018, seongi is in the midst of adjusting the lighting and helping the cameramen prepare their equipment for the music show when one of the pds herself, johyun sashays over to him in her stilettos.
"change of plans," she begins while thumbing through some documents in her hand. "we're going to interview oh my girl in a couple of hours, this time we're going to interview another girl group that debuted earlier this year. they're comeback is today."
"oh? should we keep this background image then?" seongi asks as he shifts a camera stand over a few inches.
"oh, yeah, that doesn't changing. just the girls," johyun mutters as she winces at the throbbing pain in her feet. "curse these heels. but, do you know them, idyll? one of the members is your age—the leader (just giving her a different position, it's your decision) i think? her name is jinri or something like that."
