jessica's university life can pretty much be often depicted in movies. those kind of lifestyle where viewers would chuckle and say, "that's impossible, bruh". jessica is blessed this semester with no morning classes; which means that she can attend her classes. for jessica, sleep >>> class. why would you go all the way to your class when you'll end up sleeping in class anyways? doesn't make sense to her. it doesn't matter though; because she's actuallty quite good with her studies. so far, she is on the dean's list every semester. not exactly a 4.0 student; but people still refer to her when they're confused on a certain subject.
she's also very active in extracurricular activities. she's in the sorority of delta gamma; arguably one of the biggest sorority in uclv, where her grand sister is the president. she's apart of the cheerleading squad, she's heavily involved in uclv's accounting association as a committee member. all in all, she's an all-rounded student in general.

delilah, or della, is jessica's big sister. the korean culture of senior-junior which has been ingrained in her brain is totally surprised by how nice delilah treats her. delilah treats her like an equal; where she actually teaches her how to survive university without sacrifising social life. she's super nice! she's also the one who introduces weed and recreational drugs to jessica though. bad influence? good influence? you decide; but as far as jessica knows, delilah is one of her favourite person in the university.

look, if there's one man that gets jessica ually frustrated, it's taeseong. who uses tinder to find actual dates? that's just stupid. anyways, they went on a few dates; but for jessica, taeseong is an authoritarian. is she going on a date with a fine man? or is she going on a date with her high school principal? for jessica, taeseong is old-fashioned. she knows that she's not going to get any action from him; so, she pulled out the "let's just be friends" card. they are mostly cool; now that taeseong confessed on how tired he is about her boba rant and how she's tired of going to a dog park for their date. they're friends now, but they can't deny that there is an air of awkwardness when there's just the two of them.

february 2019, 2am. she met owen at a frat party. his frat's party. she was too drunk to function, he was by the pool, lighting up his blunt. jessica came to him, tried planting a kiss on his lips but was quickly pushed away by owen. "it's because i'm ugly, right?" she asked before she cried her heart out. it's not owen's first time dealing with a drunk girl. some girl would come and pick her up, apologize and bring her back home. freshies. he thought. now, she was rambling about how unworthy she is, how no one cares about her, how she is no one's favourite and how she hates herself for having an unrequited crush on a frat boy who probably doesn't know her name.
it was 4 am in the morning. the party stopped; with a few drunk bodies laying on the ground, as usual. he can either a) take her to his room or b) leave her here. to be frank, the latter seems like an easier option, but owen's morals doesn't allow him to leave her there with no one she can turn to. he doesn't want to feel guilty if anything happens to her. so, he carried her to the couch, staying with her for the night.
the next day, jessica woke up with her head on his lap. she scanned around the room before muttering a curse word in korean. she gently woke owen up before curving her lips into a gentle smile. "hi. sorry, my name's jessica and i kind of lost my handbag. can i call my phone with yours? in case if someone's holding it for me for a while." funny how she's using one of her pick-up lines for emergency situation. owen's annoyed; but nonetheless, is still humane. anyways, it's safe to say that jessica used her budget allocated for monthly makeup to cater towards his needs; but it also gives jessica an idea of what owen is like. for example, he's a gamer; hence, the 400 dollars he spent for his video games' skins. and then, there's weed; another 300 dollars. but he's cool! they became close in a span of one week. surprisingly, owen can tolerate her. he never really throws a fit about the amount of attention she showers at him.
whenever she's bored, she'll text him about random things. bored? spam owen. angry? vent to owen. lonely? talk to owen. perhaps, it's the downside of having a busy bestfriend; but she's thankful for how owen would always be available to reply. even at 3.30 a.m. in the morning.
he's also nice enough to sneak her into the fraternity at nights when she just.. feels bored or basically, need someone to study with. owen basically became her therapist; and she is his gaming buddy. she's surprisingly good at gaming; and will accompany him while studying, joining him occassionally. plus, he's good at mathematics! he's good at calculating things when she's too lazy to do so. they smoke weed together; she brought him edibles in exchange of sneaking her to his room. she also helps him with managing the finance of gpa. what makes their relationship special is their late night chats though. maybe, it's the idea of not giving a about each other that well that leads them to trust each other. does jessica care enough about owen to talk about him with her sisters? uhhhh no. same goes to owen.

one month before formal. it was one of those super rare days where they actually went to grab dinner together. no weed, no games, just a decent lunch. it's probably one of those days where owen needs help with calculating the money of gpa. and then, there it rang. a facetime call by dearest grandmother. since he's driving, so, naturally, she helps him to answer the call. "owen has a girlfriend now and he doesn't even bother telling me," the elderly woman mumbled in korean; but loud enough for her to hear. "granny, i'm not owen's girlfriend! he doesn't like me because he said i'm annoying," she replied back in fluent korean, pouting as she said that. the conversation went on for long. her grandmother had a fourty five minutes conversation with jessica, or she introduces herself as jooyeon (owen doesn't even know her korean name until then). throughout the conversation, in which owen doesn't understand because it's in korean, her grandmother doesn't even ask for him.
that night; before her grandmother went to sleep, she calls again, mostly to ask for what he's doing and how he's coping up with university; however, one line stands out the most. "that jooyeon, i mean, jessica girl... i like her." he has never looked at her that way; perhaps, after his break up, he never really looked at girls to date specifically. so, when someone he trusts started giving him ideas, he became sensitive to everything that she does. how she'll bring some korean food for ashton (which he never tasted because she never offered), how the bed feels better with her, how enjoyable their late night talks were. oh, , he's catching feelings.
a week before formal. it was 5am and they're both on their phones, preparing to go to sleep before owen broke the silence. "oi, you're still awake?" he asked. jessica snickered, before replying, "no, this is her mother. of course, i'm still awake. stupid." owen cleared his throat. "you know about the formal? the one that you wanna go to so badly," he asked. jessica got defensive; he didn't let her come and he's showing off now? to put salt on her wound, isn't it? "uh, yeah, the one where you clearly said i can't come. because you don't want to take care after me. headass," she huffed, turning her back against him. "do you still wanna come? be my plus one," he asked; where he instantly earns a bear hug from jessica. "you're the best, owen." now, when is the best time to prove how much of a great man he can be than the retreat? hell, he can even be better than louis, or jeff, or gavin, or anyone of that matter.
