appearance and style
yue is pretty, of course she's pretty, she was once an sm rookie don't you know? she's stick thin, too thin. sm wants their trainees to keep their hair long and undyed so they can do whatever they want with it come debut so her hair remains long and black. she used to have bangs when she was in mickey mouse club but she deliberately grew them out. she's adept at presenting herself, is often seen looking neat and put together even in training clothes. she's learned to always prevent a perfect face.
 #1.58m #42kg
personality
yue is a workaholic, and one whose confidence has been shot to pieces. yue has learned to be her perfect self at all times, any kind of weakness is preyed upon by the vultures that make up the rest of the trainees. training at sm was tough, everyone saw each other as competition first and people second. she hardly made friends and every evaluation she was hyper aware that it could be her last. so yue has learned to always be perfect and to rely on only herself. she's learned to thrive under stress and duress and keep her feelings close.

now she knows that she can give perfection, she knows that she's highly skilled, she knows that she's an sm girl and that that comes with real credits. it has made yue arrogant, and when she comes to high rise she sees herself as above the others. they don't know what she's been through the past 10 years, they don't know what sm had made of her. they should be lucky to have her.

she's also incredibly competitive, something she was even before she went through the sm ringer. yue thrives off of rivalry, she thrives off competition and really puts her everything into winning. it can make her extremely infuriating to work with or against but it also gets real results. yue thrives when it's a solo competition since she doesn't do group work well, but she will also passionately get the group worked up if it means winning at a challenge and she can be extremely stubborn about it.
really, yue can be extremely stubborn about absolutely everything, and petty too. she doesn't like being one-upped and she doesn't like being challenged. it's so eas to get a rivalry triggered within her. but at the same time when it comes to management she's incredibly eager to please, yue needs that validation from those above to soothe her and tell her that she's not here for nothing, that she hasn't put all of her feelings of selth worth through a paper shredder for nothing. she's happiest when she's praised, when she's put on a pedestal of an example.

inside, though, yue is extremely lonely. she's given up on making any kind of human connection after her years at sm, and really she was to blame herself too. she was just as bad as everyone else in making the atmosphere at sm hell for any kind of friendship. yue is the kind of girl who scores a win in the afternoon and feels amazing and then practices alone until 3am and ends up crying in the practice room by herself. no amount of management validation can actually fill the hole inside of her that just wants real human contact.
+  hard working ambitious clever go getter easy to please
- stubborn arrogant closed off cold self concious competitive petty
pre-debut history
yue's life before being scouted was quite ordinary. she was a very bubble preteen, someone who loved getting attention or praised for her pretty face. her parents made her take ballet lessons and piano lessons because that's what girls were supposed to learn and yue excelled under tutelage.she always wanted to do a good job and be praised by whoever was in charge. she lived in a middle class household, her mother stayed at home to raise yue and her little brother while her father worked for the gwangju university teaching business ethics.
she was 10 when she was street scouted by someone who saw the makings of an sm visual in her. to yue it was something she'd never even considered, but she was a young girl an of course she loved kpop and had groups she adored (girls generation being one of them) and the whole idea was like a dream come true for her. she auditioned and was accepted.

trainee history
training at sm was hard, she was instantly thrown into an extremely competitive environment with girls who knew they had to be better than each other in order to debut. debut assured success and riches if they managed so each of them would do anything to debut. due to her looks even as a kid yue was pushed by sm in appearing in cfs and taking small child sized roles in kdramas and movies and she laps up absolutely every bit of stardom she can get.
yue quickly rises in the ranks of trainees due to her looks and her pleasing personality. she becomes a favorite of many of the trainers and earns the ire of many of the other trainees here. she quickly finds herself mostly alone. when 2013 rolls out nobody is surprised that yue is revealed as an sm rookie. it was just another way for sm to put some of their traiees on a pedestal and sowing dissent and competition between the others. this is the cream of the crop, sm said. yue has never been happier but also never been more alone.
in 2015 sm starts to actively promote the rookies and yue joins the mickey mouse show. this is one of the happier times of her lives. the 8 months she spend doing that show gave her a kind of community belonging she's never felt before. with the girls it was like an unspoken truce, they never quite bonded but at that moment they could feel togetherness as the confirmed best of the sm girls. it was the boys yue got along best with. normally the boy and girl trainees were kept strictly separate but now she could interact with them and these were people she didn't have to compete with! she was especially close with mark and jaemin.
and after that was done the rivalries and competition returned. she did some singing for a kid's show with koeun and hina and mostly waited for sm to debut her. multiple times there were rumors that this time sm really had drawn up debut plans, that this time they were so close, that any day now a project group could be drawn up. there never was and yue just kept training and training, honing her skills, waiting for the time to be right. then at the beginning of 2020 finally, sm was ready to draw up a project group. yue wasn't in it.
to try and distract her damin took her to the high rise concert, something she already had tickets for anyway. by pure chance they ended up seated all the way in the back close to where the ceo of high rise also was. in a moment of complete shamelessness yue got up to him and asked him if he knew who she was (he did) and if he wanted her in his company (he did). and that's how she got here.

trainee life
yue is new to the company at the start of the story so for her her first mission will be reconnaisance and assert dominance. find out exactly how the company runs and who the important players are and how everything functions and then show every part of that equation that yue is what they've been waiting for to complete them all along.
she spends most of her time practicing or showing that she's practicing. back at sm it was a badge of honor whoever was the last to leave the practice room in the small hours of night and yue holds on to that practice. no one will leave after her, she must show that she is absolutely the most dedicated person there. she has to show that she is debut ready.
unfortunately she can't be the only one who's debut ready for her dream to come true and she regards the high rise girl trainees as an undisciplined lot, if they're going to show the company that they should debut them instead of the boys then they have to step up their game significantly.

relationships

kim gihyun / 16 / fellow trainee
(fc: lena)
gihyun used to be the newest entry to high rise, she's only been training for 3 months and she didn't enter with anything but her pretty face and cute personality. gihyun was initially very happy to hear there was going to be a new girl and she wouldn't be the newest anymore, she was a lot less happy when she met yue. gihyun is rebellious and stubborn and a little lazy but she has a lot of natural charm to show and she really is invested in this crazy dream she's following even if hormones and teenage stubborness don't let it show.

seo taeri / 18 / fellow trainee
(fc: minju)
taeri is the thorn in yue's side. she's beautiful and undoubtedly talented, but sometimes yue just wants to slap her and wake her up to the fact that training and being an idol is not a game. taeri more than anything spits in the face of everything yue stands for and her fast and loose attitude with training and complete lack of professionality infuriate yue.
ryeyeon and yue do not get along at all upon first meeting. yue readily underestimates her as someone who's reaching the edge of what she generally knows as debutable age (irene at debut is the maximum debutable age to her) and her skillset is completely different to yue's. she's no direct competition, but what she is is incredibly difficult to work with. still, ryeyeon might actually be the most professional of the group and while she's not likeable she does get her job done and, truth be told, likeable is worthless to yue anyway.
yue's opinion of youngae is a bit more complicated than just like or dislike. at first impression she definitely wasn't a fan of her clumsy and ditzy personality that at first seemed like an act to appear more likeable and charming. the more she sees of youngae the more she realizes that the ditz who can talk your ear off, sheepishly laughing at something silly that slipped out of is genuine. yue has her frustrations with youngae when she won't focus, when she does the same move yue just showed her 5 times wrong again, when she's trying to tell her when the group is meeting for practice and youngae does a u turn at the sight of her. most of all though, yue feels a pang of jealousy when she sees how youngae chats and laughs with the other trainees, her friends. when everyone seems to move around nam youngae, the axle of the wheel. when she's chatting to her siblings and yue so dearly misses her little brother. there's a bit of understanding when she finds out that youngae's siblings are both successful idols themselves, a moment where she understands that that pressure of having to live up to someone's expectations weighs heavily on youngae as well. more than anyone i can see youngae being the one to soften yue and get through her pain and anger and insecurites.
whenever it comes to choosing trainees to pair up with for evaluations, sarang is definitely the one yue tries to recruit first. aside from her stellar vocals, sarang is quite easy to work with. a little too saccharine for yue's taste but she's skilled and she's good at following instructions and she never gives yue attitude or delays practices.  yue might even be so bold to say that she rather likes sarang, the girl really has the uncanny ability to attract older friends, doesn't she?
in mia yue finds the rival she seeks. mia was the star trainee before yue came onto the scene, and yue is very invested in showing high rise that she's the real star now. when doing smaller group work for evaluations they're often pitted against each other and it sends yue's competitive streak aflame. on the flipside, mia is also one of the most professional to work with and yue admires her creativity and musicality (while also reminding her that her studio work isn't going to get her a spot in the lineup). in the end it might do both of them good to realize that they can much better team than fight to show high rise that with their two star trainees their future girl group is going to be a guaranteed success.

na jaemin / 19 / ex-sm rookie, nct member, friend
yue befriended jaemin during the recordings of mickie mouse club. both of them were so young then and yue had been so relieved to find someone who wasn't competition, someone she could befriend without strings attached. it was difficult to keep their friendship going afterwards because of how strict sm is at keeping the genders separated but there were lots of little chats inbetween switching rooms, smiles from across the hall, chats in the lobby of the dorms. of course the childhood friendship has cooled now but it still makes her happy to see him and his group do well (even with a pang of jealousy) and he's still hoping to see her debut so they can see each other backstage someday and meet as successful idols.

lee hyejin / 20 / ex-fellow sm trainee, rival
(fc: seoyeon)
for the entire time that yue was a trainee she's had a rivalry with hyejin. hyejin was jealous of yue for being an sm rookie while yue used feeling superior to hyejin as a way to feel better about herself and keep her confidence from crumbling entirely. now yue was dismissed from sm for not making the lineup for their new girl group while hyejin did.

park damin / 20 / best friend
yue has known damin since she started attending sopa. damin has rich parents who wanted her to get the arts education she desired and now she's studying to be a costume designer for theatre productions. a friend of a friend gave her tickets to see the high rise united concert and she dragged yue along to try to distract her.

ji yuseok / 17 / little brother
she's closer to her brother than she is to even her parents. they used to be super close and do everything together, yue has fond memories of tutoring piano when he couldn't grasp a section (he really was never musically inclined) or that time she scared his bullies so much they never dared to bully him again or the evenings when they were home alone and she'd make him instant noodles and they'd stay up late watching cartoons. it breaks her heart that she's hardly seen him since she started training, every time she calls him or she sees him she ends up sobbing because of how much she misses him. he grew up without her being there for him. she wasn't there to scare away any new bullies, she wasn't there to save him from the piano teacher's wrath, she wasn't there to support him through the hell that is middle school. she tries to call him once a week but there are many weeks where she doesn't even manage that and she feels so guilty about it. she always tries to call somewhere isolated cause she will invariably end up crying right after she hangs up.

LANGUAGES
aside from korean she's conversational in japanese thanks to sm's rigorous japanese training.

TRIVIA
❄ she replaces lami in sm rookies.
❄ she can play piano quite well
❄ she can choreograph a little bit. sm was never very big on honng the creative skills of their trainees, that was something they could only do in there own time, and yue never took time of her own. she wants to try it and learn more but where can she find the time?
❄ she could probably be a visual if she got her eyes surgically done but that's the one thing yue hasn't been willing to do for debut. she's wavering now.
she loves hot tea, she often drinks it with a dash of honey when she needs comfort.

love interest

i'm sorry i don't think i have time to write this since i'm struggling to finish it in time as it is but i would love for her to have a brush with a little bit of romance! you can pair her with any unpaired applicant or side character or otherwise do a sweet romance with jaemin from nct?

yue had been with sm for half of her life. and then they cut her from the future girl group lineup, she was at a loss for what to do until her friends decided to take her to the high rise concert to cheer her up, and who would it be that sits behind her? the ceo of high rise himself! a week later yue is a real high rise trainee all but promised a debut, but what if she can't get along with the other trainees?
