WENXING
WENXING
FULL NAME yuè wénxīng (岳星)
STAGE NAME
애리스 ARIES his company asked him if he wanted to use his korean name as his stage name. wonsung was an uncommon name among idols and it wasn't something that slid off the tongue easily. still, wenxing wanted his name to be protected. on stage he wasn't wonsung, he wanted something else. the company decided to go with aries: the star sign embodied qualities of passion and confident — all the things that were good in an idol. it also helped that his horoscope sign is aries so he agreed with the name.
OTHER NAMES
악원성 YAK WONSUNG when wenxing first came to korea, most of the people he met couldn't pronounce his name properly. his ceo told him his official korean name was 'yak wonsung' and to introduce himself with that name as long as he's in korea. while s are supposed to call him 'aries' on-camera, most of them stick to wonsung once the camera turns off. however, most of s are getting used to calling him wonsung when the cameras are on too.
NICKNAMES
댄스 지니어스 DANCE GENIUS wenxing's spending most of his free time trying to learn choreography from other groups has given him this nickname on variety shows. it's mostly used by emcees of these shows or his own members when they're trying to introduce him, show him off or .
XING a shortened form of his chinese name. it's used by his family and his chinese fans.

BIRTH DATE 31 march, 1997
AGE 24
BIRTH PLACE sichuan, china
HOMETOWN sichuan, china

ETHNICITY chinese
NATIONALITY chinese
LANGUAGES
fluent MANDARIN born and raised in china, wenxing is definitely more confident with his mandarin than his korean. his voice is naturally low but he speaks quickly, making it difficult to catch what he's saying at times.
advanced KOREAN advanced. when wenxing first moved to south korea, he barely spoke the language. fast forward to 3 years later (after several intensive korean language classes and speaking to native south koreans), wenxing would lable himself as an advanced in korean. he is definitely more confident in listening and reading skills than his speaking and writing abilities.
basic ENGLISH he was taught basic english when he was in china and when he moved to south korea. however, his english is subpar at best. wenxing can speak random phrases but he has trouble with reading and writing in english.

EYES wenxing has perfect eyesight. he has never needed to wear prescription glasses or contact lenses but he does own a pair of glasses for aesthetic purposes. his eye colour is naturally black.
HAIR despite the fact that wenxing's hair looks black, he would argue to his grave that his hair is naturally dark brown. the shades of brown are most visible under the sun, though. his hair is still relatively healthy: he doesn't dye his hair that often for it to break off. however, currently wenxing has dyed his hair blonde because he wants to try a new look.

FACIAL FEATURES his almond shaped eyes, small nose and plump lips gives wenxing a very forgiving look. meanwhile, his sharp jawline, high cheekbones and structured eyebrows define his face a little better. these contrasting features make it easy for him to fit any concept thrown his way.
EXPRESSIONS most of the time, wenxing seems to have a very attentive facial expression. he always seems like he's very hyper-aware of everything that goes on around him. he's always glacing around, his eyes darting around any room as he steps into it. despite this, it is hard to read the expression on his face. at times it can be a blank, unbothered look and other times it'll be a cheerful and carefree smile.
GESTURES wenxing's physical actions are either very elaborate and deliberate or very subtle and unnoticeable. when the cameras are on him, he'd instinctly talk with more hand gestures and actions if he's telling a story or giving instructions. sometimes when the cameras are off, wenxing would still act this way if he feels very passionate or engrossed in what he's talking about. other times, when wenxing wants to fade in the background, he keeps his hands in his pockets and refrains from making much noise.

HEIGHT 180cm
WEIGHT 65kg
BUILD as wenxing was growing up, his relatives told him that he didn't look like he could farm. he was tall but scrawny and looked like he didn't eat for weeks. now, though, wenxing stands tall and proud. he credits this to going to the gym five days a week when he came to korea. when he pulls back his shoulder, they're broad — the kind of shoulders you'd die just to be able to lean against. his biceps are muscular and his legs are toned. while he can never seem to keep his abs for long periods of time, his body looks hard and solid. despite his efforts to hit the gym, wenxing's is disappointingly flat and he doesn't know what he can do to change that.

SCARS / MARKINGS
scar RIGHT BUTTCHEEK he has a scar on his right buttcheek after getting caned several times there. it isn't a deep scar but it's pretty long.

STYLE / FASHION wenxing doesn't really care about what he wears. most of the time he throws on a plain white tee shirt with black jeans and calls it a day. s say it's a pity that he doesn't try harder with his fashion because he has a good body structure. still, wenxing is a lot more comfortable wearing simple and cheap things. wenxing doesn't enjoy wearing clothes that reveal too much of his skin and much prefers wearing loose fitting clothing. he loves wearing oversized hoodies and sweatpants whenever he's lounging around the house on cold days. he definitely isn't the best at being able to colour coordinate his outfits (read: he once wore a blue shirt with orange pants to the airport), so he tends to stick to monochrome colours.

currently, wenxing is going through a baseball cap phase and loves wearing them when he leaves the house.

PERSONALITY
on camera, wenxing always seems to know something witty to say to get the camera's attention on him. while he isn't the loudest member or the quietest member in revolt, he leans more to the talkative side. wenxing isn't one that likes to share the spotlight with his other members and tries to stand out the best that he can. this is the same off camera where wenxing loves to talk to s and he likes to talk about his experiences and his day too. wenxing likes to have people around him. maybe it is because he grew up in a noisy family but he likes the feeling of having noises around him. it makes him feel as though the place is alive and he doesn't feel so alone. along with this, wenxing likes to keep himself occupied. he enjoys the feeling of being busy and having things to do. he would classify himself as the moodmaker of the group — when he's happy, the mood of the group is really good, but when he's not, there'll be a very sour atmosphere. wenxing is close to most of the members and it's obvious on camera as well. there's a comforting aura around wenxing — it's like you can keep your deepest secrets with him and he won't say a word.

wenxing isn't afraid of voicing out his concerns or opinions, no matter how unconventional they are. he isn't one to sugar-coat his words and delivers them in whatever way he feels like. at times, this comes at the cost of his friend's emotions. nonetheless, wenxing believes there is no use buttering someone up only to tear them down. his words might hurt but he believes that no one can get through life without a little pain. when wenxing is fixed on a certain mindset, it often causes s to get angry at his closed-mindedness because wenxing isn't ready to bend to change his actions or ideas. it's exceptionally difficult to get wenxing to change his course of action once he has put his mind and heart into it. he would do anything and everything in order to get his way. wenxing isn't afraid of failures. he doesn't see failed attempts as him being unsuccessful. instead, he sees it as a way to improve himself and try out something new (regardless of how much people might try to advise him otherwise). this might make him quite uncooperative when the whole team wants to do something but he's against it. he also isn't the best at listening to his friends' advises. if wenxing doesn't see the merit of doing something, he would choose not to do it unless he's literally and physically forced to by a figure of authority. still, if no one would be on his side, wenxing knows he can rely on himself.

while he is largely independent, he can do most things on his own without needing help from his friends and members. sure, he definitely enjoys the presence of having others around, but he finds it slightly uncomfortable to ask people for help. in turn, wenxing isn't the most helpful person. if he can do it himself, why should others not? while wenxing might not be the most helpful person, he can be convinced to help others if he's extremely close to the person or if he can find some gain to doing it (this portion usually falls into these categories: monetary gain, for the thrill, for his status or because it might be convenient for him. it also depends on the kind of help the person needs). furthermore, wenxing might not be the most reliable person, he often forgets to follow through with his plans or plans that others have made for him. he often would need reminders or a push to remind himself about his motive.

nonetheless, when faced in different situations, wenxing reacts immediately. he doesn't think many things through and his body often moves faster than his thoughts do. this makes him act impulsively at times or make decisions on the spot that he might regret in the future. he hates having to wait for other people to come to a decision and cannot spare any time for people who cannot make up their mind. so, wenxing tends to make instructions instantly, not thinking much of the consequences. he enjoys the feeling of the adrenaline rushing through his body when he does something risky or dangerous.

wenxing isn't the best with words when it comes to supporting his friends emotionally. he finds himself not know what to say when someone cries in front of him or when people come to him for personal advice. instead, he shows his support by being there when his friends need him. he tries his best to there when his friends need him and when he's unable to, he'd buy something for them that he knows they like to try to cheer them up. meanwhile, when something good happens to his friends, he's always the first one to hype them up and share the good news with others. he shows his affection and care through spending quality time with someone or buying them gifts. he's extremely frugal when it comes to spending his money and won't buy anything he doesn't deem necessary. out of all the members, wenxing would say he probably spends the least out of all of them.
BACKGROUND
MARCH 1997 TO SEPTEMBER 2010
wenxing grew up on a vegetable farm in sichuan and came from a poor family. despite being an only child, wenxing grew up in his family home with 3 other cousins, his grandparents, 3 aunts, 4 uncles and his parents. there was never a moment when his home was quiet. as much as wenxing liked to have people around him, he found his household quite unbearable to live in. his 3 aunts would often comment about how lazy and unintelligent he was. hearing words like "he's so scrawny, what good is he on the farm?", "why are we even giving him food on his plate if he isn't willing to help farm?", "his teacher called again because he was misbehaving! can you believe it?" were commonplace for him. it was just a matter of whether they'd say it in front of him or behind his back. other times they'd cane him if he refused their requests (such as going on the farm to water the crops or helping them pour water from the cattle). in the beginning, wenxing would try to defend himself but his aunts responded by calling him disrespectful and claiming that his parents didn't raise him right. sometimes, when they were really angry, they'd take the cane out to hit him. after a while, he learnt to hang his head low, bite his lips and accept their judgements. he hated that his dad never defended him. but wenxing understood that his father was the youngest of 5 children and that his father had barely any say in the family. there was something about this rooted sense of filial piety in his family that was unsettling to wenxing throughout his childhood. just because he was the youngest, did that necessarily mean he had to be at the mercy of the elders? he often thought about how someone's age didn't always define how much respect they deserved. but wenxing would never dare to voice that out to his family.

it wasn't that his cousins treated him any better. they had this weird sense of superiorty. maybe it was because they barely got scolded or hit by the cane. meanwhile, wenxing would often get hit. his cousins would laugh at him once it was over ("maybe next time you'll learn how to behave!" "wow my mother really used all her strength!"). they'd paint wenxing as the bad guy whenever they played games. sometimes his female cousin would draw fake tears just to get wenxing scolded ("ma! wenxing cheated again!" "wenxing pushed me!"). he remembers once when one of his cousins handcuffed him to the bedframe with a pair of skipping rope just because he had accidentally stepped on her blanket that she had left on the floor. as a result of the bias the older people in the house had, wenxing barely had nice things. any nice food or items were usually passed on to his eldest cousin. his eldest cousin wasn't the best at sharing. in fact, he often took some of wenxing's nicer clothes and always claimed them to be his. there was no way wenxing could fight against the prized grandson in the house, so wenxing would let it slide. he didn't want to cause any problems. but wenxing could only take so much.

wenxing and his cousins all studied in a village primary school about 30 minutes bicycle ride away from their home. despite having to study in the same primary school as his cousins, wenxing found a peaceful solace when he joined the choir at the start of primary school (he would later join choir again when he entered secondary school). at 7, his school forced their students to pick an extra-curricular activity as part of their 'holistic development program'. the initial reason for joining was because his parents had always sung him to sleep when he was still a toddler and he wanted to have voices as nice as they did. he believed joining choir would help him with that. in the beginning of his primary school years, wenxing would always go home around 3pm once practices ended. he'd take his bike and ride home on his bicycle with his counsins who ended school at the same time he did. however, when he turned 10, instead of going back home after school with his cousins, wenxing would linger around the choir room with his seniors to practice singing with them. he'd go back home for dinner and be greeted by his aunts' cynical remarks about how he doesn't come back home ("we give you such a nice and protected life. yet you choose to stay out?" "how ungrateful.")

he was 8 when he began to pick up the habit of stealing other people's belongings. he, too, wanted to know what it was like to have something to call his own. it started with stealing one of his friend's lunch. wenxing's mother prepared some fruits for him to eat during his break but it wasn't enough. when he saw his friend, ruihan, boasting about the chocolate wafers their mother bought, wenxing felt insanely jealous. wenxing saw the 20 wafer sticks ruihan's mother packed for him and thought: if i take one, he's not going to know. when his friend went to the bathroom, wenxing sneaked over to his friends bag and took out one of the sticks. on hindsight, wenxing could have probably just asked his friend if he was willing to let wenxing try one. it continued with wenxing stealing his friend's storybooks, stationary and watches. wenxing also began stealing food from his neighbours' farms. he was caught a few times when his other classmates noticed him taking things from other people's tables and bags or when his teacher would do spot checks. despite being publically caned and punished in front of the whole school, wenxing found stealing very addictive. there was a thrill he got everytime he managed to get a hold on something he really wanted. there was an even bigger sense of accomplishment when he didn't get caught. if he got caught, he had no one to blame but himself. and if he didn't get caught, he could proudly say he earned what he got.

OCTOBER 2011 TO DECEMBER 2012
soon, wenxing began steal from small street shops that sold clothes and other electronics. he's steal from the shop and never go back to it. when he was 14, wenxing was caught for stealing an iPhone 4S from a family-owned mobile phone shop near his place in sichuan. he stayed out late and waited for the shop to close before he broke in. unfortunately for him, the son of the owner came back to the shop while wenxing was just escaping as the son had left something behind. while he didn't need to be criminally punished because he was under the age of 16, wenxing was sent to juvenile home for six months and probation for another 3 months.

life in the home was tough. for the first few weeks, wenxing didn't dare to look at anyone in the eye. most of the boys were about a year older than he was and had a menancing look in their eyes. after the initial weeks passed and some of the older boys got used to wenxing's existence, his stay became slightly more bearable. after all, all the boys suffered the same in the home his time at the home — the dehumanising insults, mentally and physically exhausting exercise and seeing the other boys get caned if they broke the slightest rule. wenxing still has a scar across his right buttock from the time he was caught awake after lights were off. they were all running on fear of their officers, too scared to do or say anything that might be deemed as prohibited.

the home was also the first place where wenxing learnt how to dance. whenever they had free time (social time, as the officers called it) in their rooms, his cellmate, chen zongjin, would teach wenxing how to dance. it intrigued him whenever he saw zongjin pop his limbs or spin on the ground. when wenxing first started learning from his cellmate, wenxing was convinced that he could not dance. his body wasn't as fluid and he found memorising the dance moves a chore. still, wenxing found it fun. it wasn't so much the dancing but it was the company wenxing was glad he had. zongjin and wenxing would share stories about their families and what life was like before they entered the home. wenxing was shocked when zongjin told him that he came from a rich family ("what's a rich boy doing here!" "a teacher caught me for vandalising ' you' outside my school walls."). he was relaxed and learning how to dance cleared his mind whenever he missed his parents. he knew how much they'd be suffering back at home because he was sent to the home.

about 4 months passed and wenxing was finally out. his officer complimented his good attitude and said he would be released early.

the urge to steal lessened once he got out. sure, the fancy electronics his friends brought to school were very enticing to him but wenxing tried his best to not take them from his classmates. there was a negative stigma around him once he got back. his classmates were more wary of him and his friends started to distance themselves from him. they didn't want to be associated with someone who went to a juvenile home and they also didn't want wenxing to steal their things. despite all this, wenxing still stole things every now and then. he became more careful, though. he'd take things no one would really notice once it's gone. eventually, wenxing finished his probation period and he was free. he still regreted never finding a way to contact zongjin ever again. his cellmate was the first person wenxing ever considered a friend.

JANUARY 2013 TO FEBRUARY 2013
becoming an idol was never part of wenxing's plan. he always believed that he'd walk in his father's footsteps and become a farmer. so when someone came up to him on the street and asked if he wanted to fly to korea at the age of 16 to become an idol, wenxing was at a lost for words. it was about a month before the lunar new year and wenxing's family wanted to buy new furniture from one of the shops in town. wenxing was there to help his parents with carrying the furniture around. it was supposed to be a normal day for him until a scouting agent appeared. his parents thought it was a scam and chased the person away. wenxing, though, was fascinated by the idea and had accepted the man's business card. Go Eunseung. Casting Director (China). Noir Entertainment.

the address and office number was written on the card and wenxing was tempted to call them. and so, without his parents knowledge, he decided to give the man who had passed him the card a call.

"hi. i'm interested in becoming a trainee for your company."

the man quickly arranged an audition for wenxing in sichuan. wenxing had expected to go to south korea for his audition but apparently the company was hosting one in his city.

the audition process kept wenxing on edge the whole time and he really liked the feeling. as wenxing was filling up the form, one line stuck out to him.

have you ever had a criminal record or been convicted in a court of law?

a part of wenxing considered lying. he looked around to see his competition and felt scared. if he ticked the 'yes' box, he would definitely not get the posititon. he was sure none of these boys knew what it was like in a juvenile home.

even before the song he chose played, one of the casting agents asked, "what were you convicted for?"

the room fell silent. wenxing instantly regretted admitting to his record.

"stealing," wenxing's eyes darted to the ground for a moment before looking up again, making eye contact with the person who had directed the question to him, "but i promise i'll never do it again!"

"when were you convicted?"

"october 2011." wenxing felt his opportunity falling through his hands. he knew, he just knew he wasn't going to get the opportunity. was he even allowed to leave china with a record?

the man nodded in response and signalled wenxing to carry on with the audition. with his slightly above average singing and mediocre dancing, wenxing knew he was never going to get the role.

a week later, wenxing was surprised to receive a call from the agency saying that they had accepted him and that they would help apply for a visa for his visit. wenxing never knew what the casting director saw in him and he didn't know what made the casting agents accept him either but wenxing was glad that he was given the shot. he was finally going to leave the family home.

wenxing's parents were hesitant to let wenxing leave. after all, they had no idea if the company was real and if it was even safe to let wenxing go to south korea alone at such a young age. wenxing never knew he was this passionate about something until it was presented to him. and so, he tried to convince his parents that he knew what he was doing and that this was his dream and that this was finally something he was good at. his aunts were (surprisingly) thrilled to get wenxing out of the house. wenxing was convinced that they would give him a hard time. while wenxing was convinced that they didn't really care about his ambition and just wanted him out of the house ("let him go! he's never done anything useful in this house anyway." "maybe he can finally stop being a bum around the house." "he's already so big! you can't take care of him forever"), wenxing was slightly thankful that they managed to convince his parents to let him go. his cousins, on the other hand, were exceptionally skeptical ("didn't he go to jail? is he even allowed to step foot outside the country" "since when did he have any talent at all?" "if it was that easy to become a trainee, i think anyone can do it").

reluctantly, his parents allowed him to go. with whatever money his parents had, they paid for his plane ticket and gave him a small sum of money to survive for the first few months in south korea.
DAILY ROUTINE wenxing has never been a morning person. he can force himself to wake up at ungodly hours if he has a schedule. if not, wenxing finds himself sleeping for the most part of the day.

on good days, he's up by 11am and leaves the dorm by 3pm to head to the practice room. he takes a break for dinner and continues to train till 12am before heading back to the dorm.

on other days, he wakes up anywhere between 3 to 4pm. when he wakes up, he brushes his teeth, takes a quick 5 minute shower, has his first meal of the day. these are the moments he has to interact with s. after that, he heads to the practice room in the company. he stays in the practice room till late and leaves at around 2 in the morning. the only time he takes a break is to eat dinner. by the time he's back, he's greeted by a dark hallway with most of s asleep. he takes a cold shower and watches k-dramas for about 2 hours and finds himself asleep at 4 in the morning.

sometimes, wenxing would pull an all-nighter if he has a schedule that requires him to wake up early. on these nights, he often finds himself walking around his neighbourhood to kill time.

WEEKLY ROUTINE similar to above.

WEEKENDS
weekends are his self-proclaimed rest days even though he knows that not every idols feels that way. similar to the weekdays, he wakes up a around 3 to 4pm and gets about his day by watching shows or talking to s. he also goes to the gym from 6pm to 8pm on weekends. he also makes it a point to call his parents on saturdays just to update them about how he has been doing.

NEAT OR MESSY wenxing is pretty neutral when it comes to how organised his surroundings should be. at times, he wouldn't mind the mess and just ignore it. on other occasions, wenxing might feel extremely frustrated when he sees mess and would clean it up.

HOLIDAYS OR EVENTS CELEBRATED growing up, wenxing's family would celebrate the new year, lunar new year, mid-autumn festival as well as everyone's birthday. wenxing, on the other hand, isn't one to keep up with or remember any holidays or important events. as someone who isn't very good at memorising dates and numbers, wenxing has forgotten his own birthday at times.

currently, the only event he feels like would be worth celebrating would be the lunar new year. however, he hasn't been back to his hometown in a long while and has only been celebrating the lunar new year with any member that doesn't go back home during the holiday.

SOUNDS he hates the sound of people chewing as it reminds him of dinner time with his aunts and is sensitive to very sudden and loud noises as it reminds him of his time in the juvenile home.

THE YUE FAMILY
general relationship mostly explained in background section

YUE ZEBING, 1967
yue zebing, the youngest of 5 children, always wanted a son. so when the doctor said that his wife was pregnant with a boy, zebing was over the moon.

zebing knew that wenxing would have a hard time. being the youngest, he was often at the mercy of his siblings and zebing knew that the same fate would happen to his son.

behind closed doors when wenxing was asleep, zebing would try to stick his neck out for his son. protecting his son was something he always tried to do. but his age didn't make it easy for that to happen. still, wenxing loves and respects his father very much. while their father-son relationship isn't one that's filled with secrets and laughter, wenxing knows he can trust his father whenever things go wrong.

LI XUEJING, 1970 wenxing's mother, lee xuejing, doted on her son a lot. the two were really close. when wenxing was just a toddler, he would follow her everywhere. he found his mother's arms the most comfortable and reassuring place to be in. xuejing speaks in a soft and slow voice and she's always patient whenever wenxing gets angry or frustrated. when things get hard for him, he remembers his mother telling him, "things will get better. i promise."

ZHANG JIAQIAN, CHEN MEILIN, ZHAO YIYEN wenxing's three aunts in order of age. they gave him a hard time even for existing in the same space as them. he couldn't choose the family he was born into and hated them to the core as he was growing up but he was thankful that they wanted him to go to south korea. he knew it wasn't because they wanted to support his goals and it was more likely that they just wanted him out of the house and to see him fail, but at least their snide remarks convinced his parents to let him go.

YUE WENRUI, 1991 wenxing's eldest cousin and the favourite child in the household wenxing grew up in. he was hardworking and smart. wenrui was always willing to help out on the farm and listened to the elders very well. wenxing hated wenrui's conceited and arrogant aura but there was no denying that wenrui deserved to be that prideful. currently, wenrui is a dentist and opened a dental clinic in chengdu, sichuan.

YUE RUXI, 1995 wenxing hated his second cousin. she was manipulative and knew how to tug on the heartstings of his aunts with a single tear. he knew she would purposely lay out her things in places that wenxing would touch and once he did touch them, she'd cry and blame wenxing for touching her things. other times, she'd fall down on purpose while wenxing is walking behind her and claim that it was wenxing that pushed her down. he didn't know why ruxi hated him so much. still, as the only girl growing up, she was pampered on and protected by the elders in the house. ruxi graduated from xihua university with a bachelor's degree in economics and is currently a writer for Chengdu Economic Daily.

YUE WENHAO, 1996 wenxing's last cousin. while wenhao was probably the best out of the 3 cousins, wenhao would often be an accomplice to the two other cousins. wenhao would sometimes feel bad for wenxing and help wenxing with his school work whever the latter seemed like he was struggling. his mother would warn wenhao not to get to close to wenxing lest he get 'infected' by wenxing's unintelligence so wenhao would interact with wenxing without his mother knowing. currently, wenhao is studying computer science in sichuan university.

how could you talk to me like this?
[automated message] hi! this is wenxing. i'm busy now so please give me some times to reply.

CHILDHOOD FRIEND
after he came back from the home, wenxing didn't have many friends left in school. he was thankful that he had yuzhe who always had his back. yuzhe was on the basketball team and he was one of the more popular boys in school. sometimes wenxing is surprised that yuzhe didn't judge him. the boy came from a middle class family and he was exceptionally smart. yuzhe always topped the cohort while wenxing remained somewhere in the middle to the bottom.

currently, yuzhe is studying medicine in the university of beijing and doesn't stay in sichuan anymore. the two don't really talk to each other anymore aside from the occasional "how have you been?" and "we should definitely meet soon". they don't have much to say through text message but whenever they call on the phone or meet in real life, it's as though nothing has changed.

yuzhe has always offered a warm listening ear to wenxing and gives the best advice. they share thoughtful conversations with yuzhe always being concerned with what wenxing's plans actually are. meanwhile, wenxing's afraid yuzhe won't be free from the shackles of education and actually find himself.

FRIEND
wenxing doesn't have many friends who are idols. he finds himself with his group members more than socialising with other people. sometimes, he does introduce himself to others but he does so out of formalities. for minghao, it was different. the two met during an end of year show and became friends since then. maybe it's because they're both chinese but minghao made wenxing feel like he's at home. while minghao might be really sarcastic at times, wenxing appreciates his brutal honestly. the two often meet to practice dancing to new songs, creating choreography while spilling tea about what's happening in their lives around them. usually it's just about pointless gossip they hear and other times it's about themselves or their members. aside from meeting to practice, they also meet often to have mala xiangguo.

FRIENDS WITH BENEFITS
they had both debuted around the same time and met during an inkigayo music show. wenxing found her very attractive. she was small, petite and he loved the way she looked with blonde hair. he told one of s about her but the member advised him not to start any dating scandal so soon. wenxing didn't care. brazanly, he went up to jinsoul and asked for her number. the girl was slightly puzzled but she would be lying if she said that he didn't catch her eye.

what was supposed to be a first date watching a 2am movie in a quiet movie theatre turned into them kissing and making out throughout the last 15 minutes of the film. they slept together that night and decided to become friends with benefits. no strings attached.

wenxing doesn't really find himself telling jinsoul much about himself. while they can talk about the most trivial things, they don't talk about anything that really bothers them.

still, wenxing would consider jinsoul a friend that he can have a proper meal with and hang out with without any ual relations. they've ate out together before on rare occasions. wenxing and jinsol both do not want their faces to be on a dispatch article so they try their best to keep their meetings confined in her room with a movie on.

SASAENG FAN
during one of his vlives in 2018, wenxing received an anonymous call. he suspected that it was probably from a fan who had probably paid sk telcom and gotten his number. he ignored the call, not mentioning it to the viewers either. but he figured the person calling was probably on the live, waiting to see if wenxing would reveal that someone was calling to confirm the number. he's heard his manager caution against interacting with fans through the phone but wenxing wondered what was so wrong?

after the live ended, wenxing called the number.

and that was how wenxing developed a very toxic and unhealthy relationship with lin yongqi.

the girl just turned 19 when she received a call back from someone she idolised. her friend had bought wenxing's number from someone online and yongqi decided to call the number. she expected to be ignored but what she didn't expect was to receive a call back from the number.

yongqi would do anything for wenxing but unfortunately, the same could not be said for him. instead, he books cheap hotels to sleep with her and she's more than willing to comply. she's promised not to reveal their relationship and wenxing blindly trusts that just on the fact that she's a fan.

THE SECRETS & THEIR STORIES
FAMILY BACKGROUND wenxing isn't ashamed that he was from a poor family background. fans often say that they're proud of how far wenxing has come and how he's managed to face all the obstacles life handed to him when he was a child. what he wants to hide, though, is his strained relationship with his cousins and aunts. wenxing knows that his cousins would tag him in their instagram posts when they want to support his comeback. they'd say how proud they are and that he's bringing honour to the family name. sometimes wenxing is very tempted to expose them and tell the word how bad they were to him as he was growing up.
JUVENILE HOME since his criminal record has now been sealed, wenxing is less worried about people being able to find out about it. he knows his company is working hard to hide the secret by paying off some of the officers who worked at the home that wenxing stayed in.  sometimes wenxing wonders if he's worth all that trouble and other times he knows he is: the amount of money he brings in to the company should definitely outweight how much his company has to pay.
FRIENDS WITH BENEFITS his relationship with jinsoul is something he's been trying to hide from the media for years now. wenxing is prepared if he ever gets caught, he'd probably say that they're just close friends because they debuted around the same time.
SASAENG FAN his relationship with his sasaeng fan definitely cross the boundaries between fan and idol. he's seen video clips of other idols shaming their sasaengs or scolding them and he has definitely done the same to some of his fans that stalk him or wait outside his apartment building. despite this, he thinks yongqi is different. after all, he's been sleeping with her for close to 3 years now and she hasn't said anything. he reminds her often that she cannot tell anyone about it. "if you do, i'll cut you out of my life," and she blindly listens to him. wenxing has this power over her that he really likes having. it's as though he's finally in control of something. he expliots her — using his hold on her as her idol to get her to sleep with him. he definitely isn't the most careful when it comes to talking to his sasaeng fan through texts. wenxing figures it's nothing he should be worried about yet. would anyone really believe a sasaeng fan anyway?

PRESENT DAY
FAMILY SITUATION s know about his situation with his extended family and show him as much support they can when his family gets on his nerves. they let him complain to them about how much they annoy him and that "they have no right to act like this when they've been treating me like trash!" wenxing will probably take this to his grave. he has no place to expose them.

RECORDS since his criminal record has now been sealed, wenxing is less worried about people being able to find out about the fact that he was caught stealing and sent to a juvenile home. he knows his company is working hard to hide the secret by paying off some of the officers who worked at the home that wenxing stayed in. still, there always this gnawing feeling that someone will find out one day. his agency cannot possibly pay people to be quiet for forever. it was a difficult secret to keep but his company had been doing well so far. he hasn't told s about his past yet. he's afraid they'd be more wary of him once he admits that he used to be a thief. he doesn't want s to shun him like his friends did back when he came back to school after staying in the home.

RELATIONSHIP SCANDALS meanwhile, his relationship with jinsoul has been speculated by many netizens but his company hasn't made any statements about it. while there have been no photos of them together in public, an anonymous user tweeted out, i saw wenxing and jinsoul going to a seculded part of Music Core's back stage! i wonder what they were doing...

thankfully, though, not many people believed that tweet because there was no picture proof. since then, wenxing has learnt to be more careful with interacting with jinsoul in public. they try their best to make as little eye contact in person and act like they have never interacted before when there's a risk that a camera could be around.

s know about this but don't comment on it. after all, some of them are doing the same thing he does. meanwhile, his company doesn't know and he doesn't intend on ever letting them know unless he really gets caught.

his relationship with his sasaeng, though, has been suspected by s. wenxing usually covers it up by saying that he's going to meet jinsoul but it gets suspicious when jinsoul is busy with promotions. other times he would say he's going for a walk but when s ask if they can follow him, wenxing would always say that he wants to be alone. s do not know exactly who he is rushing off to meet so late in the night, but they know that some things are better left undiscussed.

LOVE INTEREST NAME cha soonyi (차순이)

FACE CLAIM lee yeoreom, wjsn
BACK UP hyunjin, loona

STATUS friends

AGE october 20, 1998

APPEARANCE soonyi has long black hair with short side-swept bangs. soonyi spends quite a bit of time on her make up before she leaves the house. she wears a light amount of concealer, lip tint and blush. she also draws her eyebrows and uses eyeliner, mascara and a bit of soft coral eyeshadow on her eyes as her standard look [current look is most similar to yeoreom 'hmph' era]

PERSONALITY TRAITS
positive: reliable, honest, loyal, patient
neutrals: introverted, humble
negatives: timid, insecure, gullible

PERSONALITY
her friend once told her that she's as plain as white paper and soonyi responded with a smile and an 'i guess you're right'. growing up in a patriarchal household, soonyi was taught to not not speak unless spoken to and wouldn't dare to say anything that could potentially be offensive. she's quick to apologise even if she isn't in the wrong and thank people for the slightest things.

soonyi looked up to her mother the most. a housewife who kept order and peace in the house, soonyi aspired to be like that one day. maintaining balance and harmony in the world is something soonyi values and she wouldn't do anything that would shake up the status quo. she values the traditions that she learnt when she was younger and is very reluctant to change her ways. change in general scares soonyi as she prefers things to remain the same. she's comfortable in her box and has no intention of stepping out of it.

she's patient and always tries to understand why people act the way they do before instantly accusing them. if she has to help someone in need, she will definitely do it. this makes it easy to trick soonyi into doing anything. she trusts people really easily and cannot tell when people are lying to her. it's rare to see soonyi get mad at someone. she always thinks that everyone is inherently good and that people wouldn't do anything with ill-intent. however, when soonyi does end up in between an argument, she tends to break down and doesn't quite know how to handle it when people fight.

soonyi is very in tune with the emotions of other people and makes a great counsellor. she might not have a lot of experience in what her peers are going through, especially when it comes to romance, but her presense and soft, calming words always makes things feel a lot better. to her loved ones, soonyi is fiercely loyal to them and will defend them to no end even if they are in the wrong. while soonyi might not be the kind of girl who would stand up for you in a fight, she will definitely be there to bandage your wounds or celebrate if you won. she's exceptionally hard on herself but treats other people with such softness that it's hard to imagine the amount of sadness she has in her heart.

whenever soonyi makes a mistake, she becomes very disociated with the world. she keeps to herself instead of talking about her feelings in a healthy manner. it's not that she doesn't know how to talk about her feelings, soonyi just feels as though it's not worth burdening other people with her problems. as much as soonyi hates it, she wears her heart on her sleeve and it's obvious when she's upset. and she knows she annoys people when they ask her what's wrong and she responds with nothing. sometimes, soonyi needs to learn that she doesn't need to carry all her burdens on her own shoulder and learn to let her guard down.

LOVE STORY
JUNE 2019
revolt had just ended their promotions for their first full album: the revolution. instead of going to sleep, wenxing decided to take a walk around his neighbourhood at 3 in the morning. his body was physically exhausted but there were many thoughts on his mind. he thinks back to when he was a poor farmer's boy in china and now he just finished a successful promotion of his groups first album. he found himself walking along the han river and found a quaint 24-hour cafe nearby. deciding that he deserved to spend some money on some cake to celebrate his success, he stepped into the empty cafe.

wenxing pushed the door open and saw the only staff in the cafe sitting at the counter painting an image. the girl noticed wenxing immediately and put her paintbrush down. wenxing could see paint stains on her apron and questioned the hygiene of the place. he contemplated on walking back out but she called out to him.

"hello! welcome to cafe miranda," the girl greeted him with a smile. "would you like to order anything?"

staring at the girl behind the counter from the front door, wenxing was sure she was harmless. she wore a soft smile on her face and an expectant gaze in her eyes. wenxing wasn't sure when was the last time she had a customer.

"i'd like a slice of red velvet cake please," wenxing ordered.

"would you like any drink to go along with that?" the girl, who wenxing noted wore the name tag with the name 'suni' (수니) on it, asked as she keyed in his order in the computer.

"nope. that would be all."

"your order will be with you shortly!"

when soonyi turned around to get the cake from the fridge, wenxing felt the urge to look over at what she was painting. he saw that she was painting a picture of a sunset over an igloo and thought that it was such a peculiar image.

"what are you painting?"

"it's for my art assignment," the girl replied as she layed his slice of cake on a white plate.

"you're an art student?" wenxing didn't know why he was suddenly so interested in the life of this cashier. it felt nice talking to someone who didn't seem to know who he was. being constantly surrounded by people who see him as an 'idol' felt slightly exhasting. he didn't know if she was pretending to not know who he was but he wasn't about to ask.

"yeah! i'm studying visual arts right now," the girl answered. "would you like me to bring this to your table or...?"

wenxing noticed he was still standing in front of the counter and shook his head. "that's really interesting. i wish i could draw," wenxing said as he took the plate from the counter.

as he turned around and walked to his seat, he heard her say, "anyone can draw."

wenxing found himself going back to the cafe more often. he really enjoyed his small conversations with the girl he knew as suni. he loved looking at her painting behind the counter and the food was good too.

OCTOBER 2019
wenxing found the nights he spent with her from the hours between 3am to 5am the best hours of his day.

he thinks he learnt a lot about her over the past few months. he also learnt that she was staying away from her family who stayed in busan. she took on this part time job in order to pay for her accomodation in seoul. he knew she was studying in the korea national university of arts and was two years younger than he was. he learnt that she really wanted to be a curator for an arts exhibition or start a small company selling her own illustrations (he told her that he'd be her number one supporter if she ever does this).

however, he never really shared much about himself. he realised she didn't know that he was an idol because she preferred listening to girl groups and the only boy group she knows were BTS, super junior and shinee. he wasn't planning on telling her that he was from revolt and told her that he was in hanyang university majoring in dance. he also told her that he'd come really early in the morning because he just ended practice. technically, it wasn't a lie.

does he think he has a crush on her? maybe. does he have inappropriate thoughts about her at times? definitely. he has no idea if she feels the same way about him so he decides to ask her.

"hey suni," wenxing asks on one october night.

"yeah?" soonyi replies as she dipped her paintbrush onto her palette.

"do you like me?"

JANUARY 2020
had wenxing confessed his feelings that night instead of asking how she felt, he knows they wouldnt be together in her studio apartment while she was crying over how the guy she liked ghosted her on a date.

they were friends. and wenxing was sure that that was all they could ever be.

he remembers her response down to the exact words. he's sure he has them memorised just to torment himself

"i think youre really nice but there's someone in my school that i really like."

"his name is moon bin and he's really cute!"

"he has this really cute smile and he's really smart too!"

as her tears stained his black t-shirt, wenxing wonders why he would get himself into this situation. he was yue wenxing. he was sure he could get any girl he wanted. except her.

he knew it wouldn't be a good move to try to hit on her after her heart's been broken by someone he will never meet. it was worse because he knew he couldn't even find who the guy was to fight him over this. all he could do was listen to soonyi cry.

MARCH 2020
"wonsung, i have a secret," soonyi says one day while wenxing was having a cup of matcha green tea.

out of all the possible things she could have said, wenxing was surprised when she said, "my name is actually spelt as soonyi (순이) and not suni (수니)."

wenxing didn't know whether this was her trying to get him to tell her a secret. he didn't meet her much in february and most of march because he was super busy with his album promotions. he tried his best to act surprised.

the rest of the night progressed and wenxing knew she still had no idea what his occupation was.

still, he has this nagging feeling that soonyi should have reason to believe that there's something suspicious about him. he can only meet her at awkward timings of the day and is surprisingly always busy at every other hour.

RELATIONSHIP
if you were on the outside looking in, you might say that the two have a suspiciously close friendship. the two care immensely for each other and wenxing knows he would do anything soonyi wanted at the drop of a hat. it's undeniable that they enjoy each other's presense. soonyi definitely appreciates the nights that wenxing keeps her company. she really enjoys talking about her art with him and seeing the occasional 'free' concerts he puts for her in the cafe.

sometimes wenxing is surprised that soonyi still cannot tell that he likes her. so, wenxing tries his best to suppress his feelings for soonyi. he knows shes still trying to get over someone she liked so he doesn't want to force her into liking him back. so, he's decided to pretend that these feelings don't exist. it also eats away at him that he doesn't want to tell her about his occupation. he's scared something would shift in the friendship that they have with each other. every time wenxing thinks of telling her, something inside him tells him to stop and he bottles up the confession once again. wenxing's biggest fear is that soonyi finds out by herself. despite all of wenxing's recklessness, he doesn't know why this is something he finds so difficult to do.

maybe because this is something in his life that he really wants to keep. something in his life he knows he can't mess up.

PLOTLINE the wild card

POSITION lead vocalist, dancer, sub-rapper

TRAINING LIFE
FEBRUARY 2013 TO DECEMBER 2015
coming to south korea for the first time felt really exhilirating to him. he thought he would have been nervous or scared. he was anything but that. the city fasincated him — the bright lights, loud noises and bustling crowd. he liked this noise and he liked that none of the noise felt like it was invading his personal space.

the first month was the most difficult. wenxing didn't know a word of korean and the basic korean classes only taught him how to say simple sentences like 'i am eating rice' and 'what are you doing?'. he communicated with most of the other trainees using body language and spoke mainly to the staff members that could speak a little bit of mandarin. he was grateful to the trainees who were willing to be patient with him as he was learning because he was slowly losing patience trying to learn a language he seemed to be horrible at.

the next barrier he faced was due to his deep chinese accent that often made it difficult for people to understand him when he spoke korean. wenxing tried his best to speak korean as much as he could once he got the hang of the language. sure, he was still awkward in certain areas and his accent made it painful to listen to him speak, but he was trying his best. he had to prove to his family that he was worth something.

other than the language barrier, wenxing would say he had fun as a trainee. his family would send him a little bit of money that was just enough for a months worth of food. wenxing always thought of the idea of working while being a trainee but he knew that training would take up a majority of his time. on top of having to do vocal, dance and rap training, wenxing had to take language classes and decided to be ambitious by taking acting class. he also had to be trained on how to carry themselves in front of the camera. wenxing knew it was the record: the company wouldn't want him to act out and reveal things he wasn't meant to. the company wouldn't want it to look like he'd actually steal anything.

on the note of stealing, wenxing wouldn't say he was completely free from the thought of it. some of the other trainees had really nice items that he knew he would never be able to afford. they were nice clothes to training and were able to eat good food during breaks. meanwhile, wenxing always wore the same clothes and ate pre-packaged food from 7/11. still, he was determined to turn over a new leaf and stop. wenxing wanted to make a new for himself more than he wanted the material items he was so tempted by.

his trainee days could be largely characterised by long days and nights in the practice rooms. wenxing was glad the ceo liked him — wenxing was objectively good at singing and dancing. the ceo would often note that wenxing was a good baritone singer and that he was good at controlling his movements (wenxing thanks the 4 months of learning how to do b-boy dancing for that). while wenxing struggled with rapping korean words, his teachers would often compliment him about his flow when it comes to rapping in mandarin instead. he definitely wouldn't be the best rapper but at least he had the charisma. the approval from his coaches made his choice seem more justifiable. at least he was doing well at something.

aside from the long practice hours, wenxing can also remember going out to explore south korea alone or with the other trainees. he's pretty much confined to exploring seoul (given his budget and time) but he doesn't mind. there's always a corner of seoul to explore and new places to visit where he doesn't need to burn a hole through his wallet. instead of going to parks and gardens, he enjoys walking through the city alone at night and enjoying the quiet buzz the city has at night. sometimes he'd find himself in unfamiliar neighbourhoods, pretty much lost. but he'd find a way by following road signs or (if he's lucky) asking someone else who he meets on the street.

he also reminders instigating 'bonding' sessions where he'd ask the other trainees to go bungee jumping or white water rafting with him. he saves up just enough money to go for one of them at least one every three months to give him something to look forward too. of course, not every trainee is always keep on doing these activities with him but he tries his luck to convince whoever he can. he finds these activities really liberating.
QUESTIONS i'm not sure if you need face claims for all his family members so i only added for his cousins. if you don't need them i can remove them too! also if this is a concern, i've googled and, in china, you can go overseas even if you have a criminal record as a minor. i'm not sure about the laws in other countries so i made sure before writing this! if you have any concerns with this please let me know.

COMMENTS
i saw that someone else applied using winwin for the wild card plotline so i'm feeling slightly scared submitting this application but it was really fun to do! it definitely took a lot longer than i wanted to do so i'm glad i finally found the time to sit down and finish this.

i was honestly considering not having a love interest but i'd only decided on that halfway while i was writing the love story so... if wenxing gets chosen feel free to not include a love interest if you see fit.

there will probably be a lot of mistakes and unexplained gaps so please feel free to tear my application apart!!
