PAST ) gyeoul was the second-born in a pair of twins. she grew up with no real troubles, but she always did get the impression as a child that her parents liked her sister better. why wouldn't they? her sister was prettier and more outspoken, charmed everyone over with her sweetness, and gyeoul was just the ugly quiet kid reading in the corner. yeah, it shouldn't have been such a surprise, but gyeoul couldn't help the resentment from building up in her stomach.
when she was in middle school, gyeoul became friends with a japanese exchange student, who introduced her to the rising jpop scene. gyeoul never really paid much attention to pop music before that, but she suddenly fell in love with hey say jump and focused her time on them. as a result, her grades dropped, and her parents reprimanded her and grounded her, which made her feel like they liked her sister even more now.
by the time gyeoul reached high school, she knew that she wanted to be an idol. the only problem was, she was shy and unconfident and didn't even really know how to sing. sure, she took choir and she could play piano, but would that be enough to impress kpop companies? that's why she started a youtube company with her best friend, the japanese exchange student! they called themselves 'sixty second kpop covers' and all of their videos were 60 seconds of a kpop song. surprisingly, it gained quite a bit of popularity, and they ended up having over 500 subscribers.
during this time, gyeoul learned how to manage her time better and brought her grades up, and she also outgrew her inferiority complex. she realized that her parents didn't really like her sister better, but that she only thought that way because she spent her time alone instead of with her parents and sister. her sister wanted to become a doctor, and gyeoul wanted to become an idol, and their parents supported both of them. with this thought in mind, gyeoul auditioned for yg entertainment as soon as she graduated high school, and to her infinite surprise but gratefulness, she was accepted.
