Personality —
'sure, whatever.'
linghua has a short temper, and is quite impatient. she doesn't like explaining herself when it takes more than five sentences, and so she just become cold and almost bored when people talk to her. because she has a very short attention span, linghua gets bored after a person talks for a certain period of time, and becomes dismissive.

'go on. don't be afraid; you can do it.'
being the oldest sibling of her household and her parents not having the ability to support the family, linghua has long since taken up the mantle of being a mother to her younger siblings. add a couple of other neighbourhood kids she has to take care of, linghua is a natural at caring for other people. while she has no patience for people her age and older people (most of the time, anyways), she is very caring and responsible towards younger kids. 

'oi! yes, you; you.' 
linghua has a foul mouth, and she's not afraid to admit it. while she's not as extreme as to have a curse in every sentence she speaks, she curses very easily. with her short temper to boot, linghua gets very frightening when she's angry, especially when she's out for blood.

'don't worry; i will take care of this. just tell me their name and watch me kick their .'
linghua is a very protective person, and she's naturally very protective of her siblings and the neighbourhood kids. if she even catches wind of someone bullying or talking bad of her loved ones, linghua would be out for blood. and she won't stop until she has the other on the ground begging for forgiveneness. 

'what do you mean there's a fire? quick, get the kids out of the house and hand me a bucket!'
linghua reacts very quickly to dire situations; while it's mostly from her training, it's also because she encounters situations like these on a daily basis. thus, she can think very quickly on her feet and would remain unfazed when emergencies appear. with her ability to think on her feet, linghua also has leadership qualities, and can lead very well in times of emergencies. she would make an excellent leader. 

'don't worry; i can take care of myself.'
having the need to take care of others and survive on her own, linghua has since become very independent and tough from a very young age. she can be seen by herself doing a lot of things, basically running the household by herself. therefore, her independent side constantly shines through. 

'you took my childhood from me. freedom, happiness...everything.'
one thing linghua is famous for is her ability to bear grudges. while she doesn't form them easily, when she does, boy, can she form grudges. unless she takes the initiative to resolve them or the person she has a grudge with somewhat resolve things, linghua would hold them till the end of time. her bitterness is very obvious and well-known. 

Appearance — because of her having to live in district twelve, linghua naturally has a very slim stature. she is extremely tall, standing at a 170cm and thus towering over the other girls, but her weight also made her very agile and quick on her feet. 

linghua has long hair that goes to her back which she cuts whenever she has time (which is almost never). she ties these into two ponytails (as shown in picture), but sometimes into a bun when she gets annoyed and needs her hair out of the way. linghua has startling blue eyes, something extremely unusual and which she has often recieved attention for. other than that, she has no special qualities that may make her stand out.

Wardrobe: cheap and practical stuff. mostly hand-me-downs from her brother and parents. hence why she always seems to wear boyish clothes. because her family is so big, she often doesn't get to keep things. the only prized possession she has is her pair of leather boots from her brother.

Background — linghua is born to a poor family in district twelve, who did not have any means of supporting themselves save for her mother doing handicrafts and her father going into the mining business.

When she was little, she had an older brother whom she admired greatly. he was six years older than her, and after she turned eight, he started teaching her hunting, which he self-learnt. through his guidance, linghua beacme very proficient in hunting and one of the providers for the family.

Timeskip to two years later. her brother got reaped to the arena, and hey presto, he died in the arena. ten year old linghua was thus forced to become head of the household and earner of money. she then had to take care of her younger siblings as well as the household's finances. like katniss, basically, but with more siblings.

because she was one of the oldest in her neighbourhood, linghua found herself with the responsibility to take care of her neighbor's children when they are off mining the out of mines. anyways, she got cool hunting skills through hunting to provide for her family, like katniss, and life was fine and all that until she got reaped at the age of 19. oops.

- has a pet hunting dog that was adopted from the forest; she went there once and the damn thing was following her so she decided to adopt it (more on relationships section)
- she is really tough in real life but breaks down when she thinks no one is watching
- she misses her older brother a lot; her token is a necklace woven out of reeds made by him
- sometimes get into fights for the sake of it
- has the ability to craft weapons out of wood and stone; also knows how to identify plants and what substance can burn the best
- gets like, five hours of sleep each day
- likes watching the sunrise because she can't watch the sunset
- ties her hair into a plait when she decides to pay the effort to 
- fears: practically nothing except spears and water. her brother was killed by a spear to the heart, and she once had a bad experience with water (i.e. her mother nearly drowned her when she was bathing. not on purpose, of course)

Relationships — 


zhou tianlong / older brother / 100+/10 / before he got reaped and carted off to the arena, tianlong was linghua's favourite brother and person to be around. he taught linghua how to hunt, and basically survival skills, as well as how to keep the family afloat through the black market. however, after he was reaped, he was killed in the arena by the careers. linghua vowed to avenge him if she one day gets chosen to be in the arena. she still misses him deeply now. 'ling-ah, you need to learn patience.'

dong xuerao / brother's fiancee; close friend / 8/10 / before tianlong was killed, he was engaged to be married to xuerao. however, the incident happened and all they have left is a handful of ashes and precious memories. linghua at first hated xuerao because of how close she was to her brother, but after his death, they bonded over grief, and became close friends. linghua treats her like an older sister, and xuerao was there when it was time to send her off. 'my poor lingling...please, be safe.'


hwang xiuying / best friend / 10/10 / a girl from a relatively slightly higher class than she is, linghua met her when she was selling goods to her family. they bonded somewhat quickly, and xiuying tends to go to the neighbourhood to help her with 'the kids'. she's really good with them, and tends to be more motherly. someone joked that she's the 'mother' and linghua the 'father' of their tiny family, and it somewhat stuck. (faceclaim: JOy)
'why must it be you, linghua? come back..." 

zhou wenxiong, lin hua / her parents / 4/10 / linghua doesn't really have much love for her parents, which was quite understandable because they hadn't been really right in the head after their son's death. her father started cursing the fact that she was a girl, and her mother started to just outright ignore her. despite that, linghua tries desperately to love her family, though became closed off at the age of 15, when her father ultimately passed away. while she grieved, she admitted she wasn't sorry to see them go. yes, linghua has a rocky relationship with her parents.

zhou minhua, zhou yingfei, zhou qiansui, zhou ranhuo / her younger siblings / 10/10 / while she has no love for her family, linghua certainly loves her younger siblings fiercely and acts as mother to them. she protects them, make sure they are well-fed and properly cared for. minhua, the oldest, is 15 now, and has taken up the mantle of fending for her younger siblings ever since linghua is gone. (fyi, yingfei is 13, qiansui is 10, and ranhuo 8)


kim taeyeon / mentor / 7/10 / linghua doesn't...hate her mentor. not really. while she gets tired of the constant fussing taeyeon does, linghua does appreciate the effort. however, she is not used to being fussed over, and becomes very awkward around the older girl. though she wants to thank taeyeon, she finds the words stuck in , and linghua at the end gives her a hug. basically, linghua doesn't really know how to express her feelings.


goo hara / stylist / 7/10 / linghua likes the fact that hara doesn't force anything on her, unlike literally everyone else at the capitol. unfortunately, this does not mean that linghua is always on board for her fashion ideas, however, though she tries her best to compromise. luckily, taeyeon is sensible and knows when to tell hara to stop and when to go ahead. however, hara does take care of linghua in her own way and linghua is touched that hara sometimes does go out of her way especially for her. 


qian / companion / 100/10 / a dog that found linghua once when she was hunting, and decided to follow her ever since. he helps linghua a lot when she hunts, and basically follows her around everywhere. she feeds him scraps because she can't afford anything else, but occassionally tosses him more. when she has to leave, qian curled up and didn't move from his spot for a few days.
