THE BASICS
PERSONALITY
 type 7w8 ; entp-a ; extraversion

   adventurous, courageous, forgiving, loyal
   ambitious, decisive, optimistic, outgoing
   impulsive, impatient, short-sighted, selfish

though itsuki has mostly come to terms with his looming death (he's known about it for almost 7 years now), much of his decisions are still heavily influenced by it. ultimately, he just wants to live life to its fullest and die with no regrets. that means doing things that scare him, giving back to the people he loves and looking on the bright side of life. he wants to do as much good to the world as he can, learn as much as he can and have as much fun as he can with the time he has left.

in line with that, he knows what he wants and will do everything he can to get it. itsuki doesn't have time for petty arguments and conflicts. he is very outgoing and can make connections like it's second nature, so he does his best to create positive relationships with others, but if he finds himself in a conflict anyway, life is too short to be bothered by these things. so he always forgives if he can. instead he'd rather spend that time aiming high, doing better, doing more.

however, this also makes itsuki selfish at times and likely to put himself over others. even though he'll happily risk his life over everyone else's, he chooses himself over others unconsciously. whether that be taking the last pizza slice without asking, assuming that the hang out place will be the skating rink when everyone else wants to watch a movie or even just forgetting to say please and thank you.

he's also very impulsive and self-indulging in a destructive manner. he still remembers a quote very distinctly in his mind "you'll only regret the choices you didn't make" and so he always chooses to do, chooses to experience the things that scare him. but itsuki takes this too far, choosing to experience "alternative pharmaceuticals" (read: drugs), to try vodka eyeballing because it looks cool. he is the poster child of the tide pod generation because he doesn't care about the consequences.

in the same vein itsuki is also very short-sighted, he has no sense of future planning or being kind to his future self since he doesn't think he has one. he spends all of his money on mcdonald's runs, movie tickets and other luxuries. there's no "future itsuki" he needs to worry about. this also makes him stupidly courageous; always happy to go high-risk high reward, always the first to volunteer for life threatening situations and refuses to let his friends cut their lives short. he'd rather die early if it meant he could go on his own terms anyway.

BACKGROUND
tw: suicidal thoughts
 chapter i.
itsuki's first memories were of the warm sun shining on his back as he popped the tenth freshly-picked strawberry into his mouth. he still remembers his mother's exasperated sigh when he was caught red handed, "tomioka itsuki, how many times have i told you not to eat the strawberries! at the rate you're eating them we'll have none left for our customers."

"sorry, i won't do it again," he remembered saying as he popped yet another one into his mouth.

"i'm banning you from picking strawberries today, go inside and help your father instead," his mother said, rolling her eyes. he frowned, but didn't put up any further resistance when she gave him that "no more fooling around" look. instead he opted for stomping all the way to the shed to make his displeasure known.

itsuki had lost track of time as he rode on the tractor with his father and enthusiastically bragged about how much he was able to help his mother. when his father finally pulled up next to the house, they heard loud shout from inside "itsuki, come inside, quickly! your favourite show is starting."

with that, itsuki jumped off the back of the tractor and dashed inside, seating himself between the sofa and the television screen. just as the opening song was ending, he vaguely remembered seeing his mother enter the room and place a plate of strawberries on the table.

 chapter ii.
on one peaceful afternoon, itsuki was hiding underneath some bushes, eyes scanning for any signs of his father searching for him. their game of hide and seek was cut short when a loud scream pierced through their quiet farm.

itsuki hadn't even realised that it came from his mouth until he saw a rock had embedded itself in his palm, pinning him to the ground. an asteroid had broken up over their farm. when the were finally able to remove asteroid fragment in the hospital, the hole in his hand began to in everything in front of it, from medical equipment to pieces of the building and the people until his quick thinking father shoved the asteroid fragment back into his palm. thankfully there were no casualties, however the hospital was unable to treat him and they were referred to a specialist.

it was a whole month until their appointment. they traveled several hours one way into the middle of nowhere. the specialist spent several hours inspecting itsuki's palm and cut off a large portion of the fragment to restore its usage. he also remembered being left outside with the receptionist long enough for him to go through 3 lollipops. when they finally went home his mother covered his arm with a forearm sleeve with a palm extension that is kept in place through a finger loop. itsuki distinctly remembers her red eyes as she told him to never take out the fragment, no matter what.

 chapter iii.
itsuki was eleven when he first forgot to wear his glove. he had just taken a long relaxing bath after a grueling exam day and was just a little bit too excited to sleep. without the glove, the asteroid fragment was dislodged for just a moment before being back into place. when itsuki woke up the next morning, he found half of the house missing. the same half his parents were staying in. even a child like him could tell what had happened.

only a few days later, he found himself furiously knocking at the door of the old man he had seen a few years door furiously, begging for answers. though itsuki had been blissfully unaware of his powers for the most part, it was time that he faced his fate and take it into his own hands. he refused to be the cause of yet another tragedy.

“that black hole in your palm will grow alongside you. when it outgrows your palm, you will probably disappear into it too,” the man had said to him.

itsuki pursed his lips, taking some time before he was able to speak again. “how long do I have?”

“maybe another 20 years, if there are no accidents.”

in that moment, itsuki felt his body seize, his life had barely just started and yet here he was, facing the knowledge of his own early death. he was terrified. it was irresponsible for the man to tell a ten year old this information, but there was no other choice, itsuki deserved to know at some point and there may be no more chances in the future.

 chapter iv.
itsuki would spend several month with the older man, experimenting with his powers and learning to cope with his new reality. at first he chose not to acknowledge his powers and its consequences, choosing instead to live his life as a normal 10 year old. but eventually the nagging fear grew too much to ignore and he became angry. why of all people in the work, did this fate befall him? why did the old man have to tell him? he would have been happier without knowing.

then when itsuki became too tired to be angry, he withdrew. what's the point of living if he's going to die anyway, just die now? it took a week before he let the old man into his room and then another few days to start eating again. something that was said had really resonated with him.

"you know, a lot of people die even after being on the earth for 80, 90 years. if you're angry, don't let fate win. live your life to its fullest and die with no regrets."

 chapter v.
not long after itsuki’s trip to the old man, he was taken into the foster care system where he would spent several years of his life. he was placed in a total of three houses before he was picked up by uvc to join the apex unit. but each time, the foster family was either neglectful outright malicious or both. each time he would get fed up and run away. and each time he would get caught and sent back. it wasn't worth wasting his life there

it was only a matter of time until he would get mixed up in the wrong crowd. he was 15 when he first tried to do deliver some drugs for extra cash. a dealer had approached him and even though he knew the risks, he didn't really think they were a big deal and took the job. however, during his deliver he invaded another dealers turf unknowingly and was caught.

it took only 30 seconds before he was complete surrounded by a group of five buff looking guys. "you think you're some top huh, trying to poach our business," their ring leader spat, saliva landing on itsuki's left cheek. before he could even wipe it off, he was jumped and there was nothing he could do but curl up and protect his head.

this too shall pass, so just hold on for a few more hours.

when he came to again, they had moved to a more secluded location and the men were waiting for him to wake. before the group noticed, itsuki was alarmed by the presence of multiple knives and pistols. he would die if he didn't do something. before the older men detected his consciousness, he jumped behind a nearby wall for cover.

"i'm giving you one last chance. knock it off before you regret it," he declared, garnering the attention of the assailants. he saw at least three of the roll their eyes and reach for their weapons. so in one swift movement, he unseals hs left palm, aiming for the five men.

he was eventually found by agent king in a back alley. he was fifteen at the time and had found himself in the midst of a very wrong crowd that was determined to hurt him for their own amusement. of course he tried to fight them off, but 5 big, older teens on one fifteen year old was never going to be much of a fight. but when he realised that this crowd might actually try to kill him, he grew angry. he was okay with dying, but not like this. not for such a meaningless reason.

IN THE LIFE OF ITSUKI
itsuki probably holds a record in the school for total number of classes skipped. it's not that he hates school, but instead he values other activities more and is on limited time. in his mind, it's not worth it because good grades would only help him get into university and then a good job, but he's never going to get anywhere in those jobs before he's dead so what's the point? he's not the type to skip and then do nothing at home, if there's nothing to do, then he'd rather just go to class, or train.

in general, he doesn't spend as much time on campus as other people do and sometimes his own classses don't know of his existance. thanks to this he has a pretty easy time slipping out to complete his hero duties, either they don't notice or they just assume he's skipping again.

after classes end for the day, he either spends time at team HQ, trying to give back by volunteering or crashing a nearby party. sometimes he'll head out to try a new extreme sport or attend a masterclass. typically, homework is done last, if at all. afterall, he's a bare minimum student that does as little as possible to pass (passing would mean repeating, and therefore wasting more time in school and not enjoying life.).

RELATIONSHIPS
genevieve king // 33
being the person that saved itsuki's life and then took him off the streets, he's forever grateful to her. however, itsuki is a headache for her and a relatively big liability for the team because he doesn't take training as seriously as he should. they probably heads constantly considering him being a regular skipper of training and overally not being the most responsible person despite being a super hero.

vincent wolf // 35
itsuki really likes agent wolf because of his sunny demeanor and respects how he was able to create a space where other apex members and himself could feel welcome and safe. he sees agent wolf a bit like a parent and feels comfortable with sharing his worries and fears with him.

apex skwaaad // 16-18
even though itsuki may not get along with everyone especially when he somewhat regularly flakes on team training or meetings, apex is his new family that he's determined to protect. he had been without a real family for so long that anyone wishing to harm them would have to do so over his dead body first. he wants to be a reliable figure that the other members can lean on, even if he's a little (okay, a lot) irresponsible.

THE SUPERHERO
ALIAS five + itsuki is uncreative so he just translated the first kanji of his name into english
SPECIES human
ABILITIES
» black hole ; five obtained a black hole located on his left palm that grows in size whenever it consumes material (aka whenever itsuki uses it) or itsuki grows in size. it's strength is determined by the size, the larger the hole is the more powerful it would be. it is really just a mini black hole that can consume anything within its reach.

itsuki doesn't have too many qualms about using it during missions because if didn't, he'd regret it. but generally will not use it outside of that. however i'd imagine that apex/uvc would rather have him not use it, because of the possibility of unwanted casualties, excessive environmental damage and the potential loss of a powerful
» combat ; having been a part of apex for two years, five has become quite proficient in hand-to-hand combat. he's also naturally quite strong and has a lot of real-world combat experience, giving him an edge over most humans and is one of the best on the team. he's also been trained in the use of most weapon types with a good level of proficiency, however he prefers to work dagger and specialises in this, allowing him to get up close and personal with the enemies.
» firearms; as if having 2 back up plans weren't enough, he has also been trained in basic firearms at the request of agent king. he's not a huge fan of shooting and skipped a fair amount of training sessions, but he has at least touched it a couple times and knows can shoot fairly accurately if need be.

SUPERSUIT
five chooses to cover hide his identity using a red oni mask inspired by traditional japanese masks as a nod to his heritage. to complete the aesthetic, he wears a black t-shirt tucked into some tracksuit pants and covered by a long-sleeved, red haori. this allows him to hide weapons under the sleeves and on the inside of the haori for easy access and a convenient way to hide if he ever has to unseal his palm.

one might ask "wouldn't that just give away the ethnicity of one member of apex?" to which five would reply "of course not, because surely there's no way a top secret organisation would allow one of their superheroes to expose themselves like this. it's a game of reverse psychology you see." he'd grin cheekily under his mask too.

IN THE LIFE OF FIVE
just as his palm was activating, he was quickly forced to seal it again when a sharp pain exploded near his wrist and knocked the tragectory off course. five more shots rang out, and his five assailants were immediately neutralised. a confused itsuki took this chance to flee but his injury and confusion meant that he didn't make it far before he was caught by the mysterious individual. agent king.

in general, itsuki's more of a frontline fighter and acts as a plan b if things go really really wrong and they need to get out in a pinch, but no one really wants to use the blackhole if they don't have to. he spends a good amount of time working out (or tries to anyway) to stay physically strong enough to stay on the front lines. he flakes on training sometimes and doesn't like the bureacracy involved but is very reliable when out on the field. he knows that the stakes are high and feels responsibility for all the members. if you have to take only one person with you on the field and make it back alive, he's your best bet because he will take a bullet for every single apex member (his survival not guaranteed though).
THE INTERVIEW
TIGHT FIT OR LOOSE FIT COSTUME "loose fit is more comfortable and generally looks better," itsuki shrugs, not feeling strongly either way. "it would be a little inconvenient in close combat situations but you can just get good."

CAPE OR NO CAPE "look when i said loose fit i didn't mean that loose" itsuki scrunched up his face in disgust. "no cape thanks."

BE A SUPERHERO OR A SECRET AGENT  "superhero," he says without missing a beat. "it's more straightforward and i don't have to think as much. i don't think i'd survive being a secret agent for one day"

POWER TO FLY OR TO READ MINDS "reading minds is pretty cool and useful for missions," itsuki says, considering his options, "but i'd much rather fly around and just explore so i guess that.

AGENT WOLF OR AGENT KING "agent king is a bit more intimidating. but uh, she did bring me here so i'd pick her." itsuki looked around the room in too big motions, "don't let her know i said that though."

FINISH YOUR FINALS TEST OR SAVE HARLEM FROM A RAMPAGING MONSTER? "who cares about finals?" itsuki asked. "a rampaging monster is both more fulfilling and more fun than doing finals. next"

YOU SEE YOUR BUS ABOUT TO LEAVE AND AN OLD LADY THAT NEEDS HELP CROSSING THE STREET, WHAT'S YOUR MOVE? "you call it missing a bus but i call it a sign to go exploring the local area," he says nochalantly. "i'd choose to help the old lady."
