소개

BIRTHNAME hong jun 홍준
NICKNAMES

hongjun (홍준) - apparently, jun's name is too short for most-of-the-people-he's-met's liking, and now had collectively developed the habit of calling him by his full name. no worries here; he really doesn't mind.
 hong (
) - you could easily tell what type of 'friend' someone is to jun by the way they address him: family and relatives call him jun, childhood friends up to high school buddies call him hongjun, while college batchmates and  his upperclassmen call him hong, because apparently, hongjun is too long! which sounds insane to two-syllable-named jun! but it's okay, it's all chill.

BIRTHDATE 24 august 1998 (19 yrs)
BIRTHPLACE seoul, south korea
HOMETOWN seoul, south korea
ETHNICITY korean

FACECLAIM ateez' kim hongjoong
BACKUP txt's soobin, nct's doyoung
HEIGHT & WEIGHT 177cm, 59kg
APPEARANCE he may not have the most breathtaking beauty (of course, compared to his sister) nor be the prettiest guy you'll ever meet (again, compared to his sister), but everyone agrees that jun gives off the vibe that he knows what he's doing. he's neat, has clear skin, smells nice, looks like he puts time in dressing up to look presentable even with just casual clothing, and he isn't selfish with smiling when the situation calls for a bit of humanly affirmation, calmness, and support. his speaking tone is also slightly higher than the usual male pitch, clear and assertive yet still friendly and approachable like that one guy from customer service who actually cares
which may also contribute to the fact that he looks like he never gets mad. you can clearly see whenever he feels irritated or bothered, but actual flaming anger? one of earth's biggest mysteries. except for his work ethics, no one actually knows how jun looks or acts if he ever gets intense feelings or passion; he just looks like he has his life and emotions together.
FASHION jun keeps his look clean and bit minimalistic as to not attract a whole lot of attention, like a monochrome outfit paired with well-kept running shoes, though he can never be seen without an accessory or two. also likes to layer clothing even during the summer heat (he finds his ways), though he likes autumn and winter seasons the most just so he can wear thick jackets and pants that hide his skinny figure.

personality

reliable and observant. a man of his word. flexible and adaptable, as long as it's within his morals. one might even think jun has the longest patience in south korea.

the amount of self-control and perseverance jun has is... almost unparalleled. he does the same morning and night routine everyday, tries his best to start AND finish his tasks way before the deadline, easily dismisses personal food temptations (he's lactose intolerant), and keeps within his weekly budget. he has always been consistent with laundry day and never fails to keep a travel-sized hand sanitizer in case of emergency.

he takes silent pride on his perceptive skills—like how jun can easily guess upcoming dilemmas and conflict, or even spot others' personality traits like a sims 3 detective—because he, knowingly or unknowingly, looks into the details more than the big picture. even though he still does make countless mistakes, like forgetting the obvious signs or trying to control situations that are clearly out of his hand, he  makes it seem like he can handle anything as if he already has a backup plan in mind. for jun, if he can still think of some kind of remedy, truce, or mutual benefit, that's his cue to stop helping. only cue, to be exact. sometimes he doesn't even know when to stop, even if it gets detrimental on his part.

he's also big on respect and might even be a bit traditional depending on the circumstances, like respecting elders or having to immediately apologize the moment he realizes his faults. at the end of the day, he sticks with his morals, which is adjusting himself to situations and avoiding doing the opposite: having other people adjust for him.

this can sometimes lead to destructive thoughts that he'll once in a while let him consume him in his entirety. if he's suddenly a few minutes late, forgot to brush his teeth, or really just lagging behind, that's when you'll know something's up. this is why he likes, more so needs, to maintain order in his life: even if he looks (and wants to look) flexible, he can't actually handle variety that well. he relies on pre-planned words, rehearsed actions, and calculated, anticipated feedback. he notices the slightest changes that it makes him restless if he doesn't know how or why something happened; which is why he'd rather adjust himself than make others change for him, because what could possibly run into their minds, right? atleast he can control himself; he's fully aware he can't control others. he can only help them.

that... and on a more light-hearted note, he's also kind of boring. and seemingly unenthusiastic. it may be because of his lack of extreme reactions and facial expressions, or how rare it is for him to retort a witty, but loving, joke back, but he's kind of predictable in that sense.

jun just isn't the type of person who teases people as a sign of affection, nor can he hold small talk to save his life. he can undeniably hold eye contact, but he hardly ever shows other emotions other than his usual reliable, 'big brother' presence. he'll lightly chuckle at his friends' jokes but almost never adds onto the fun and just lets his friends do all the talking. well, it's the way he loosens up; you'd know that he trusts you or the situation if he sets his worries free and lets everything go with the flow, unconcerned about how things will fall into their places. even though his main love language is by helping out, him being laid back for once, with his guard down, and finally dropping his supposed responsibilities are actually his ways of showing comfort. plus points if he actually shares something personal.

overall, he's unquestionably just a genuinely nice, humble guy who takes confidence on the fact that he has already mastered the art of helping others without expecting anything in return (other than personal, mental calmness). people may dislike him for being a no-fun party pooper, but his friends stay for him being himself: a man of dignity.

background

his mom and his big sister had a lot of influence on him growing up. it was always jun should be like this or jun should be like that, with his sister guiding and guarding him that he does what their mom says. he never really questioned it until he noticed that his dad would always be complacent about it. and so, 6-year-old jun asked him why, one spring night, dinner time, when their mom was busy washing the dishes, his sister was upstairs, and only the two boys were left at the living room, watching the nightly soap opera.

"it's just easier that way," his father says. "and look, you're growing up fine. you're doing well. i'm proud of you."

even though he grew up in a more matriarchal environment, his dad's words really stuck out to him.

but nothing would beat how influential the women of his life are. his childhood friends were all girls, with the exception of hwang minjin, who would mostly talk to him to ask about his sister, jin. jun immediately got why minjin wanted to become close to him, seeing how the boy would look at jin and how they were same-aged friends. he didn't mind him, though; it's easier to just help rather than try to push him away. minjin also seemed pretty friendly and genuine, so, really, jun didn't mind.

he and his childhood group of friends slightly drifted apart when they all went to different middle schools, and jun would mostly only talk to his big sister as he doesn't know how to approach his classmates, hardly adjusting to a new environment. thankfully, time heals everything, and by his senior year of high school not only did he had friends (who were, still, dominantly women) but he also knew what he was going to take in college. accountancy had a ring to him: details, preciseness, and money.

adamant about taking a business-related course, as old friends and neighbors, one way or another minjin heard the news. then jun heard the news that minjin heard the news. it was as if destiny arranged it all along, that minjin was planning on opening up a cafe and jun would gladly take up a part-time job to help him experience-wise. one way or another, jun's now a part of mp! gaming cafe's first lineup of workers.

his current living situation, spring 2018, is that he's residing on a small, cheap, but well-kept dormitory together with two other dorm mates he barely even sees (and he'll probably never see since he's mostly either in class, at the university library, or at work). his schedule as a freshman in yonsei university is also quite up to his advantage, with morning classes from 9:30am to 12:30pm, then 1:30pm to 6:00pm on mondays to wednesdays, and 1:00pm to 5:30pm during thursdays and fridays. the cafe is also only a few blocks away from his dorm, which is mainly the reason he moved there, and even though he already has steady work hours he tries to help out whenever he can (or whenever someone calls him for an emergency). his working hours are from 8:00pm to 2:00am, or whenever the last batch of gamers leave the cafe.

his parents call him from time to time, but his sister checks up on him a lot more. it's either she visits him during his work hours, or calls him after his classes end.

trivia

it's not that jun has no sense of humor, he actually knows when to laugh and when not to, he just prefers to stray away from saying inappropriate or dirty jokes. though he does have, if not one of the best reaction photos in their group chats, and has the most in stock.
he calls everyone by their first name. you'll rarely see him call someone other than their given name unless the person insists on being called by their nickname.
very un-ticklish, if that's even a word. don't even try, you'll only waste your time AND lose to a tickling battle.
always manages to look decent even in the most candid of photos. popular belief says that attractiveness really does run in the family.
never invite him to eat-all-you-can buffets, you'll only waste your money. though he wishes he could eat more and ultimately gain weight, that's just how his body works; don't worry, he'll understand if he's not invited to a gathering that involves extreme eating. even he'll advice them not to bring him to save money.
another reason that he doesn't get invited out more is that he doesn't drink! he hates the aftermath of drinking and gets severe hangovers. he'll gladly accept to be the designated driver and guardian, though. anything for his friends' safety.
he's quick on his feet. jun may not be physically strong but he's definitely agile, both in mind and body.
has a slight habit of cursing, but it only comes out whenever he's with a group of close friends.

he only learned how to brew and serve coffee a month prior to the opening of the cafe, with a friend of minjin teaching and helping him out. jun's actually really good at it now, and often mentors other workers who'll work behind the bar. it's also mainly the reason why jun is mostly either working with money or brewing up coffee, and almost never dealing with customers.
he's never really felt romantic feelings for anyone (but we never know if he'll do when he starts to work at mp! gaming cafe), so he doesn't really know how to respond to anyone asking him for romantic advice. as expected, he's also oblivious whenever someone is actually trying to flirt.

FACECLAIM nam joohyuk (chara by -churros)

RELATIONSHIP childhood friends, now coworkers

"...this is exactly the reason why i like you!"

not gonna lie, minjin only wanted to talk to jun at first because he wanted to become closer to his sister, jin. several playdates later, minjin realized that jun's pretty cool after all; he'd always share his sandwiches, he'd push him tirelessly on the swing, and actually made him talk to his sister by bringin up something they have in common. even though minjin lost his puppy love feelings for jin after 6th grade, he'll never lose the memories of jun helping him out whenever he needed to.

for jun, minjin was one of the people who encouraged him not only to be brave but also to be adventurous. he saw how nervous minjin would be whenever jin would approach them, but he still talked casually like how he talks to jun on a regular basis. seeing it on a young age, it meant a lot to jun, because even though they treat each other as friends minjin is still 6 years older than him; he sees him as a rolemodel in that sense. and who would have known that minjin would pursue something that wasn't originally in line with his degree—gaming! he took risks and survived, and jun respects that.

it wouldn't be a shocker that jun didn't think twice on helping out a friend with an aspiring business idea. as much as jun knows the benefits of having the job, it's still mainly to pay back for the indirect encouragement he got as childhood friends.

FACECLAIM itzy's ryujin (chara by -churros)

RELATIONSHIP childhood friends, now coworkers

"you know, thank god you're around."

it wasn't easy to befriend hanyeon at first, because if jun's already shy then hanyeon is ten times worse, though it did immensely help that minjin and jun were already friends. she saw that his brother trusted him, thought that maybe he wouldn't be a bad guy after all, and actually approached him first by offering an apple. funny enough, a few more games later, hanyeon trusted jun more with helping her on her homework and even with their own house chores than his own brother. well, atleast minjin didn't have to sweep the floor and wash the dishes. he also silently thanked jun for that.

hanyeon and jun's relationship wasn't also a really touchy-feely one, hence no one bothered to ask if they were dating or not because it was obvious that they weren't. but out of all the childhood friends jun had, hanyeon might actually be the one he felt closest to.

he treated her like a younger sister, tied her hair, helped her with homework (where the 2-years was at peak convenience), and most importantly, shared her his secrets. hanyeon kept them like a treasure chest with a lock that's nowhere to be found. she kept how irritated he was at his pe teacher, how he was sometimes bullied for being skinny, or how his sister jin was sometimes too busy for him to talk to. at the times he felt like he can't talk to anyone especially during middle school, hanyeon was readily available with open ears and open arms at a simple knock on the door. it's just a shame that they were both busy during high school; they barely even met up.

now that they're both working at minjin's cafe, they're trying to be close again slowly but surely. it's just taking a bit more time than expected.

BIRTHNAME + AGE hong jin, 26 yrs

RELATIONSHIP sister

"jun, you're such a virgo. you're virgo to the core."

jin is a scene-stealer, for better and for worse. growing up, jun really didn't mind it because he prefered not to be on the spotlight anyway, and up to this today he's still thankful than jin gets all the attention during family gatherings for her wit, gracefulness, beauty, and elegance; he just dislikes it when she diverts all those accumulated attention to him. her intentions are good, don't get her wrong when she starts her sentences with my brother this or my brother that, it's just that jun couldn't care less if he got recognition for the things he's done. it might feel great, but after a while, he'll just get bombarded with questions starting with why didn't you and ends with ...like your sister?

they're different. jun wants to say that and it's not even offensive, but he'll just have to find a way to politely redirect their attention to another topic.

jin is just so charming and upbeat, while jun is the literal opposite. they're both business majors but jin can actually persuade people, while jun? maybe he'll just continue to count the stocks. she says it's because she's a leo while he's a virgo, but jun just wants her to know that she can support him in a different way and vice versa. they can support each other in a way that their own love language understands. apparently, it takes time.

despite not having an intimate, heart-to-heart talk, jin isn't insensitive. it's just hard to adjust and meet his baby brother's detailed needs, but she's trying. she checks her up at work, and sometimes at school since she's an alumnus there anyway. it makes her heart warm that jun actually listens whenever she'd ramble about astrology, and even though he tries not to show that he's much more interested than he thinks he is, it's funny to jin whenever jun would intently listen to her about his own placements and how they manifest, as if he's actually taking her advice to heart. little things like that make her efforts, despite seemingly too simple for her, worthwhile.

BIRTHNAME + AGE gong minki, 17 yrs

FACECLAIM skz' jisung (chara by lagomorphic)

RELATIONSHIP minki's meal ticket coworkers

"OH SORRY IF I JUST SCREAMED LITERALLY INCHES AWAY FROM YOUR EAR I WAS JUST SO EXCITED—"

jun doesn't even understand why he and minki are close in the first place: minki's two tears younger than him, they have slightly conflicting working schedules (minki can't work as long as he does because he's a minor), and they aren't that much similar at first glance. minki can befriend anyone he lays his eyes on, but there's just something about him that makes jun want to keep an eye on the little sprout.

it may be because he's never had a little brother before, but he feels somewhat... responsible for him? he doesn't know the feeling either! it's weird! it's like whenever they hang out, he senses feelings that are quite contrary to what everyone sees. it's like there's a hidden meaning towards his actions that jun can't quite put his finger on. maybe it's just motherly instincts, but it alarms jun that minki's words and actions sometimes doesn't line up with his body language.

that being said, it's no mystery that jun has a special, soft spot for him. he'd give in for a piggyback ride to the kitchen, listen to his knock knock jokes, help him clean up, and tries hard to play with minki even though he's still at his working hours, though he's also mainly the one who pushes him to go home before his curfew. it also relieves jun that he's almost minki's emergency dial number for whenever there's something unusual going on at the cafe (no offense to the managers). other workers sometimes wish jun would stop enabling minki to keep telling his jokes just for some peace and quiet at the cafe, but let's all face it: they all have a soft spot for the 'lil squirrel.

BIRTHNAME + AGE ko jihoon, 24 yrs

FACECLAIM nuest's minhyun (chara by seukor)

RELATIONSHIP life adviser coworkers

"you know, jun, that's why you don't have a girlfriend. i'll get one for you soon."

jihoon for jun is just... something, to say the least. they only meet, like, thrice a week* and it was a bit hard to get to know him at first, but by the time jihoon found out that jun wasn't atleast 26 years old is when jun's thursdays, fridays, and saturdays* got a bit more entertaining than usual. there wouldn't be a week where jihoon would say "dude i swear i thought you were atleast a year older than me that's why i was kinda scared of talking to you!!" and then proceeds to either (1) tell his first impressions of him, (2) give him advice as someone who has lived five years longer, or (3) ask to drink with him some time. there wouldn't also be a time that jun reminds him of that one second lead on almost every k-drama that doesn't do romantic for the heroine hence never getting the girl, and jihoon doens't want that to happen to jun! (even though he isn't in any romantic relationship at the moment.) it's funny how he'd sometimes get too invested in jun's life, and it's probably because they're on a night shift and emotions flow better than usual.

whenever the customers slowly leave and there would only be a few left, either with only one eye left to game and the other eye dozing off or studying hard for the next-day exams, you'd definitely catch the two boys suddenly talking about deep ing topics just beside the counter. it's not obvious but they actually have similar outlooks in life, like prioritizing diligence on work, looking more into the details rather than the bigger picture, or because of just the simple, automatic connection of being both introverts. even though jun is younger, jihoon feels comfortable sharing and talking about these kinds of topics, which for him is kinda new and different; it's as if they're same-aged friends.

still, whenever there's a mishap on the cafe that requires human interaction, jihoon still tugs jun's apron and whispers "huh? no, you talk to him..." leaving jun to do whatever it is that needs to be done. jihoon's communicating skils? still under construction. but jun? always available. it's as simple as 1+1.

BIRTHNAME + AGE kim minwoo, 19 yrs

FACECLAIM ateez' yunho (chara by whippedforhendery)

RELATIONSHIP coworker

"i'd understand if you'd kill for your sister. i'd kill for my brother too."

ah, finally someone around my age! is what jun thought of the first time their manager introduced minwoo to the crew, but he'd never expect that it's the only thing they have in common. that, and their politeness: jihoon always jokes about how the cafe suddenly turns into a five-star restaurant the moment these two boys share the same shift—they're that prim and proper when it comes to serving. after working, though, is where their contrasting personalities are finally put into light; if minwoo's like one of those big, hyperactive dogs who still thinks they're a lapdog, jun would be a goldfish. minwoo would be seen running around the cafe, trying to get to know the other workers and have a good time, while jun would be in the kitchen cleaning the dishes even if his shift has already passed thirty minutes ago (don't worry about the wage, he just can't tolerate the mess). despite their differences, they still get along quite well.

it would even be an understatement to say that jun and minwoo have a special connection—maybe it's because they're both 98-liners who have siblings, but there's certainly something that makes them get along better than expected. it actually intrigues jun how it's as if they fill each other's shortcomings, like how minwoo easily shows the reactions jun is internally feeling, or how jun gives minwoo a heads up on what they should accomplish for the day. the boys also understand each other's sentiments on how important their siblings are to them, although minwoo might be a bit more showy at that part. but it's all chill and okay on jun's part; there's some sort of satisfaction to see someone express exactly how they feel.

interview
NOVEMBER 2017
interviewer: hwang minjin
interviewee: hong jun

"so, hongjun. oh— don't get too nervous, okay? think of this job interview as, uh, you know— just for formality's sake."

sure thing, minjin.

"great okay. so, firstly, i am minjin. hwang minjin, you know, your neighbor! who's now one of the managers at mp! gaming cafe."

yes, i know.

"hey, i told you not to be nervous! c'mon, loosen up a bit! tell me a little about yourself! what made you apply? any experience? how do you feel being one of the pioneer employees in my debut cafe?"

okay, uh—wait, do i have to answer all of that or—

"yes, i'm very, very curiousi'm a curious man, you see"

okay—i'll answer them one by one.

"okay. i'm listening. i won't even interrupt you. i am all ears."

...thanks, minjin. so, uh, i guess—first, i'm hong jun, you can call me jun, but obviously, you can call me hongjun as well—

"haha, yeah i do... it's cute..."

...yes. and i'm 19 years old, will be at uni starting in march, bs accountancy.

"that would be really helpful for my cafe."

well, i haven't actually officially started studying, but i've already bought the required books for reading. i've also started reading some of it... it's really interesting... oh so, anyway, back to the topic! the next question is about why i applied, right?

"you are—wait let me just double check the thing jikyung sent me—you are right, my dear friend!"

oh, that's good. well, i applied because i'd love to help out with your debut business, minjin!

"aw man— you, man! i'm actually flattered right now... you're telling the truth, right? you aren't applying because i told you, right?"

i'd help out even without you personally asking me, minjin! i got your back! but the job experience and salary would also be a great thing to have...

"yeah, that's true... even so, i ing know you, man! thanks for actually applying. it means a lot."

i really hope your cafe goes well, minjin. it's a nice business to have. it even has your personality written all over it. i personally appreciate the thought you put into it.

"oh man, what the !!! what the !!! this was supposed to be an interview but now i really want to catch up with you—oh by the way, do know how to play any of the games here? we're planning on teaching and facilitating some games!!!"

well, aside from the board games, i honestly don't know jack on any of the video games. i'll definitely help out anywhere but sharing video game knowledge.

"well, i for one definitely know why you're applying for the job. lmao"

... did... did you just... say lmao out loud?

"oh! well, anyway! it's an unironic, ironic thing i developed over the years. complicated stuff, i won't even explain it. it's just internet slang i that i got too used to saying, you know? it's so annoying!"

i see. it must have been.

ahso any events you want to suggest for the cafe? WE'RE OPEN TO IDEAS!"

oh, i haven't really thought about that yet. i'll definitely hit you up whenever i get to think of an idea.

"great! okay, thanks for your time, hongjun. you're hired! i'll see you in february, okay?"

ahwait what? we haven't even talked about my working hours yet... you do know that there's this law about worker's rights by the way i'm not sure if you're already aware—hey hwang minjin don't run away from me!

!

last words meet hong jun, the resident friendly npc who's actually a human and a real sweetheart after getting to know him better!!! he's mainly there to keep the cafe from falling apart, but at the same time add variety to the crew!!!

also i just wanted to share that its so in HARD to find hongjoong pics without, or atleast MINIMAL, accessories... or him not being TOO stylish... basically i made it hard for myself [clown scream] and i did not plan out that hong jun and hongjoong would rhyme like :0 because i got the name from a character in the webtoon cheese in the trap... i luv that webtoon so much.... and i wanted to use an ateez member as a faceclaim 8)

scene request

wingman!jun for minki, but hanyeon misunderstands jun and starts to think that he's hitting on her (we can't blame her jun doesn't know romance for and just wanted to help). once hanyeon confronts jun and tells him she's not interested, almost ruining their decade-long friendship, jun immediately gets the situation and, for once, was unsure of what to do, and then accidentally tells that minki likes her. jun and hanyeon's friendship might have gotten stronger, but we never know what hanyeon will think of minki after that out-of-the-ordinary day.
jun hanging out with the girls and one of them realizing that jun was the only male around. it resulted to slightly awkward exchanges and jun explaining how he's more comfortable around women. "maybe it's because he's low-spirited?" one of them bluntly says. jun just chuckles, and says something like "maybe. i am quite sluggish. i don't even really like sports that much."
another inevitable situation would be the newcomers who'd think jun is gay. after numerous, unplanned innuendos, when the right timing finally came jun simply replies "unfortunately, i'm not. but i do appreciate that you guys were concerned about my love life." don't worry, it's all chill; he gets it a lot.
jun being a part of the cafe's fossil line (aka the opposite of the maknae line) despite not being one of the oldest. everyone just assumed he's atleast a 93-liner

password "uhh... what the ? but okay, i'll take it—i'll take it! thank you—thank you so much. i won't dissapoint you. ever. and no turning back, okay? you hired me."
