birthname hwang hanyeon
birthdate november 28 2000 (age 17)
birthplace seoul, south korea
hometown seoul, south korea
ethnicity korean

faceclaim shin ryujin
height & weight 160 cm, 46 kg.
appearance hanyeon's definitely not the shortest, but she's still placed on the short spectrum of humans. as never being one to eat a lot nor exercise frequently, she's only slightly under the normal weight standard. hanyeon's kept the same shoulder length haircut ever since the beginning of high school. middle parted and if she had the time to do it, the ends of her hair curled slightly inwards. her battle against acne is over ever since her mom had gotten her through the torment of accutane. still, there are slight acne scars speckled towards the sides of her cheeks. she tries to wear makeup, putting on foundation, mascara, and maybe sheer tint or lipstick. they're mostly, if not all, gifts from her friend chohee. so her main motivation to use cosmetics is that she doesn't want to waste her friend's money and let them expire.
fashion simply put: boyfriend fashion. hanyeon has an array of baggy pullovers and shirts that she tends to tuck into sweatpants or cuffed jeans. collections of flannels, bomber jackets, and beanies? yeah, she's got them too. she usually cycles between two or three pairs of slightly weathered sneakers. now, it isn't to say that hanyeon hates feminine fashion, but there's just something she likes about rocking the boyish look while still being feminine.

personality

[ pos. ] protective, open-minded, responsible, perceptive
assertive [ neu. ] neat
indolent, aloof, passive aggressive, moody  [ neg. ]

[ aloof, indolent, perceptive, neat ]
– Hanyeon sits back among the cafe employees as her brother plays yet another round of a card game she couldn't bother to remember. She'd been asked by different people to play with them, but for all times she was asked she rejected. Hanyeon's been quite the spectator when it comes to being in a social setting. When she's not interested, it's likely she won't even think about engaging with the person or subject at hand. While through a certain time she may start getting a little bit easier to talk to, becoming friends is a different thing. So if she doesn't deem you close enough, you'll have to do all the approaching and the talking first.
– Minjin whips his head to her and shoots her another look, almost making her flinch, "Come on, Hanyeon! Play with us, it's fun!" Hanyeon slumps in her chair, adamantly shaking her head and scrunching her nose, "Too lazy." That's actually half a truth. Hanyeon doesn't want to play the game due to the new information she would need to process in order to learn it. If she can't learn the game within half a minute, then she'll highly likely step out and just watch. In fact, most of the time people will have to drag her by the wrist to get her to be involved in things. When she does finally agree (begrudgingly), be prepared for her to glare daggers.
– She glances at her watch. 12:07 AM. Hanyeon wants to go home, but how can she get Minjin to budge? She spots Jikyung slumped over a few tables away, catching some sleep. "Minjin," Hanyeon turned to him, "we should probably give that ride home that Jikyung asked for." Bingo. Time to go home. Hanyeon remembered Jikyung had asked for it hours ago. Perhaps it came from all the video games she played when she was young, but Hanyeon was always sensitive to details and how they affect others. As someone who likes to step back and look at the picture and think, it's natural that she'd have insight on a situation (and maybe bend it to her advantage-).
– Minjin almost shoots up from his seat when he realizes he had kept Jikyung waiting. As Hanyeon got up to wake her, she reminds the others, "Don't let Jikyung see those bottles lying around tomorrow morning." 'Or me,' she thought. Hanyeon was always the good child when it came to cleanliness. She tends to seek efficiency when functioning in her daily life and doesn't like it when that's disrupted by an array of mess. Depending on the situation, she's either shaking over how apocalyptic the place looks (she's being dramatic) or she's happily yet meticulously sweeping every freaking corner.

[ responsible, assertive, protective ]
– The three greet the others off and eventually make their way to Minjin's car, only for Minjin to freeze in front of the car door. "I think I forgot my keys," he realized. "Yeah, you did." Hanyeon pulled the car keys from her own pocket, tossing them over to him. He left it lying around the cafe again. She's accustomed to looking after herself and is quite relied on by other people in her life. Hanyeon's always on track when it comes to belongings and is also good with keeping time, so she's quite punctual and carries out her own schedule (mainly because if she were late, she would have to run. no thanks.). With Hanyeon, negligence will not have a chance to let things spiral out of control.
– "Thanks, Nyeonyeon!" Minjin snatches the keys midair, prompting the girl to sigh. "You need to stop leaving your goddamn keys everywhere. What if someone steals them?" There she goes scolding Minjin again. Hanyeon may not come off as someone headstrong initially, but she has her moments when she's unyielding. Besides being stubbornly idle most of the time, this side of her also appears whenever she's concerned. Hanyeon shows that she cares through when she pesters about your bad habits. She'll lecture you about the problems you wouldn't be having if you had just not done the thing, but you bet now she'll be there with you to solve the damn problem while scolding you during and after. She's quite unyielding when it comes to things that she believes is for the good of her loved ones.
– Hanyeon huffs as Minjin once again shrugs off his terrible self-management. "Serously, you need to take account of your things more!" She's almost whining at this point. She just wants nothing bad happening to him. Combined with her perceptiveness, Hanyeon is the guardian who looks out for any trouble and would readily swoop in to help. While she tends to lecture those close to her as part of her protectiveness, it's not unusual for her to help them out without needing to be asked. To people she's warming up to, she's their silent guardian who secretly watches over them and their wellbeing. While she pretends that her loved ones are burdening her with their problems and flaws, Hanyeon sincerely worries about them. In fact, Minjin could claim he'd be coming home at 8:30 PM and if he's not there when it's past ten minutes, Hanyeon would already be itching to send him a text to make sure he didn't die in some sort of car accident. But nobody would know that nor will she ever reveal that she cares that much.

[ open-minded, passive aggressive, moody ]
– Hanyeon takes the seat directly behind the driver's and off they go. "So," Minjin turns to Jikyung, "I watched that Snape analysis video, upon your recommendation." Hanyeon's interest piqued. "It makes sense," he stated. Hanyeon decided to in, "Of course it does! Sympathizers are just stuck on painting Snape as the victim." She's a girl well-read on people's views. Amidst the chaos of differing essays of opinions, she sees to it that Hanyeon has the right grasp of things to form her own sound opinion. Before concluding to whether she likes something or not, she makes sure that her mind isn't getting clouded. Does she like Snape as a character? Not really. Does she condone the abuse Snape did? Hell to the ing no. She understands why he feels the way he feels, but the character will always be tier to her.
– "But some people clearly are too dumb to be able to see Snape as the he is." An ironic smile spreads on her face. Jikyung sniggers as she recalls, "Are you talking about that one customer with that screwed up opinion on the characters?" Oh, Hanyeon definitely stopped being chipper after the customer put the blame on the victim and defended the abuser. She hid her anger behind a tight smile, gave one-worded responses, and cut the conversation short and sent them off with a sickly fake greeting. She hates having to create conflict and confront the instigator, opting out to zip and let the anger boil silently. Depending on how despicable you'd been, she may unleash her fury through underhanded vengeance and/or shrouded words. But hey, it's better to be beat up by Hanyeon in her imagination that in real life, right? Right.
– "A bunch of people keep trashing James Potter when he's already redeemed himself," Hanyeon irritably remembers. The book clearly shows the character development, "But stupid fans like the customer are adding fuel to the fire by victimizing Snape. The fandom is such a mess and . . ." Off she goes. Her eyebrows are furrowed together, her eyes are rolling, and she has a scowl on her face. It's almost too easy for Hanyeon to get annoyed when she'd just been fine a while back. How is there this much stupidity? How can people be so rude? Narrow-minded? When will her mood swing to the other side of the spectrum? Even God does not kno- "Hanyeon, we'll be going to that new ice cream place tomorrow!" Minjin sensed her frustration elevate. Hanyeon immediately drops her rant, a smile replacing her scowl, "Yes!" There you go. She's all nice and smiley now.

background

– Hanyeon was born in Seoul on November 28, 2000. Right from the get-go, she had her older brother Minjin who loved her very much but would often have his screw-ups when looking after his sister. This resulted in then-traumatic experiences (now seen as comical) causing Hanyeon to be (playfully) distrustful of him. She grew up well and comfortable, playing with a lot of the kids in the neigbourhood at the park nearby. She gradually became responsible for herself as she couldn't count on Minjin enough to do so, and in turn would actually end up looking after him instead. Jikyung soon popped up into her life and became an influence to Hanyeon, learning how to get snarky and sarcastic with her brother.

– Even if she sometimes got aggressive with her brother, she still admired him and it showed. Hanyeon would be curious over the things that he did, peeking over his shoulder or sitting right beside him, especially when it came to video games. Minjin would always hand over a second controller that wasn't plugged into the console like any typical older sibling would. But after the complaints, Minjin showed her a new world, little by little. While she was bummed that she was handed down the old stuff, she quickly got over it as she engrossed herself with video game after video game. Minjin, at the time, had to buy his own video games with his money. Now that he got the younger sibling into the hobby, however, their parents caved in to buying some new video games every once in a while as they saw Hanyeon's eyes glint in fascination. She stopped going outside after that, but at that point it was hard to pry the games off her.

– Her school life went smoothly, for the most part. Due to the neighbourhood kids growing apart and getting their own circle of friends, Hanyeon had a short but awkward time getting new friends. It was all thanks to video games that she was able to connect with others in her school. Her social life blossomed and she even joined the school's choir after realizing she enjoyed singing a lot. After getting pestered by her peers to step up, she even got some solo parts. Though her last year in middle school would be the last time she put herself on stage to sing. Someone ended up getting petty over the divided parts. On top of that, one of Minjin's friends (now former) made fun of her singing as she practiced her high notes. So with the club drama and the self-consciousness the guy gave combined, Hanyeon lost her interest in performing and sang noticeably less around others. Around this time, Minjin started doing YouTube and gradually earned success as he won viewers over with his upbeat, down-to-earth attitude towards both video games and people.

– So she had video games left. This ended up with her having no activities left to get her to go outside and meet new people. Chungdam High School just ended up being a place to do well academically (in which she is, relatively), then quickly returning home to just play video games and watch playthroughs to pass the time. It wasn't so bad, she still had connections with others as they had a common interest and would occasionally hang out somewhere. She didn't have much of a commitment to anything, however. Hanyeon, deep down, wants to return to singing but feels like she's lagged behind due to the lack of practice. Minjin, to her surprise, actually pulls through with the gaming cafe he planned. In hopes of seeing Hanyeon out more frequently, Minjin bribes her to help around with the cafe, all while she learns other skills and surrounds herself with new people.

– That's what her days have been for the past few months. School and video games on weekdays, then hanging around the cafe and occasionally helping out on weekends. Hanyeon does find herself going out more often, roaming around Hongdae District if not in the cafe. When the end of May rolls in, she's bugged by Jikyung to apply for a job once the hiring announcement gets posted. Well, earning spending money would be nice. Perhaps busying herself would also distract her from feeling the dullness she has ever since she stopped her commitment to singing and threw herself into video games.

trivia

likes:
- fantasy genre: "well, it's my favourite! far-off places, daring sword fights, magic spells, a prince in disguise!" belle is a mood.
- soundtracks: she's downloaded soundtracks of stuff she hasn't even played or watched. but soundtracks are definitely a factor to get her into things.
- snacks: there's a whole snack cabinet back at home that's always stocked up. highly likely has two packs of almond coated chocolate pepero in her bag.
- story-driven games: the main motivation for her to pick up and finish games.

dislikes:
- accusations: especially directed at her. she'll give one hell of a death stare.
- fruits and vegetables: with the exception of potatoes and carrots. any salad eaten in front of her will cause an attempt to hide an expression of disgust.

hobbies:
- singing: used to sing all the time, but now she sings when she's out of earshot.
- playing video games: has a whole library to distract herself thanks to minjin's youtube career.
- surfing youtube: playthroughs, cat videos, vine compilations, and all that jazz-

habits:
- gives a thumbs up, even when the timing is inappropriate.
- when sleepy, she glares really hard in an attempt to sharpen her vision (in vain).
- scrunching her nose when expressing disagreement, confusion, or disgust.
- smacking someone when they make a lame joke (while laughing at it anyway).
- smiling and humming to the plants when bored.

others:
- slightly athletically inclined. she loved playing with other kids back then, playing tag, manhunt, soccer, etc. hanyeon doesn't do those things anymore but would probably hide the glint that lights up in her eyes if someone asks her to join.
- does not dare to eat a huge breakfast, especially in the conventional breakfast time. her stomach acts in mysterious ways and cramps up when she tries to eat the average amount early in the day. an incident ended up with her wanting to faint right on the spot and landing her in the bathroom twice.
- has appeared in approximately ten videos out of the hundreds that minjin has on his channel, maybe slightly more than that if you counted brief appearances in frame (and then out the next second).
- doesn't use her relation to doogi as a conversation piece or a way to get people interested in her. if questioned about it or the subject comes up, then she'd mention it.
- has a usb microphone her brother handed down back when she used to sing. it's tucked in a box somewhere in her bedroom, collecting dust.
- gets really defensive and protests whenever she gets called a tsundere (even when it's nothing but the truth).
- her main in smash bros. is corrin. she's annoyingly good at using the fighter due to several hours of practice. in casual matches (which is most of the time), hanyeon ends up using robin. she whips out corrin when things get competitive, shocking unsuspecting people with her skill.
- hanyeon in co-op games is a 50/50 depending on how she feels. if she wants to be a little ? she'll make the game ten times harder by literally not doing what she's supposed to do and laughing at the other player's struggle. but if she plays properly, hanyeon is a valuable teammate.
- has drunk before, under supervision. a laughing and imbalanced drunk. she can handle alcohol better if she's ate something beforehand and she has water nearby. but on an empty stomach, half the bottle would get her not just laughing and imbalanced, but also sleepy.

hanyeon says
- "god, i'm gonna kill him."
- "i told you that it was cold outside! but do you listen to me? no, you never do!" *as she removes her own scarf and wraps it tightly around the other person*
- "doogi? my brother? siblings with that loser? nope!"
- "how's having the doogi as my brother? i don't know. he just locks himself up in the room and occasionally screams when filming. though it is nice that i get to tag along with him when he guests in conventions-"
- *mild inconvenience occurs* "i guess this is my life now."
- *tearing up* "why are they so stupid?"
- "healthy? what is healthy?"
- "your opinion is invalid, you killed connor in your detroit run!"
- "who was my first fictional crush? i don't kno- wait, that's a lie. it was legolas."

it's dangerous to go alone! take this.

relationships

brother. hwang minjin. march 07 1992.
occupation: gaming youtuber, owner of mp! gaming cafe.
personality traits: spontaneous, laid-back, determined, forgetful, understanding.
faceclaim: nam joohyuk.

"hanyeon, what was i supposed to do again?" "h-how am i supposed to know?!"

her dearest older brother. minjin and hanyeon have been looking out for each other as they grew up, though it would seem like hanyeon is the more trustworthy of the task. the fun-loving minjin has brought hanyeon more trouble than they could ever recount and it's not unusual to see minjin cackling and rubbing a numb spot that hanyeon had punched.

minjin understands that all that hanyeon is giving is tough love and would often smile when she gives a sharp lecture. while it doesn't seem that minjin is responsible enough to watch over hanyeon (combined with his forgetful nature), he actually commits even the miniscule details to memory and uses them to keep her happy. now, if only he could put his memory to other uses such as his own schedule and his car key placement, that would be also great.

MINI trivia
- funnily enough, the hwang siblings are similar in which they both got 'adopted' into friend groups. jikyung saved minjin's from a circle of superficial people when they were aged nine.
- proficient in english. he bugged a foreign friend to teach him english (since the korean style of teaching was no help at all). one of the common methods used was to translate the videos he did and provide closed captions. these days, minjin is able to do this by himself and gets his friend to check it over.
- this was one of the factors as to how he garnered more popularity in 2015 as it opened up his videos to a bigger audience.
- has developed a defense mechanism when he's around hanyeon and jikyung (which may apply to other characters later on) whenever they're about to smack him. his spidey senses get him to raise his arms up just as they lift a hand up.
- used to be a fashion disaster, but now he's just a fashion mishap. character development, hell yeah.
- graduated with a degree in business at yonsei university. initially, he had no idea what he was going to do beyond it, but when his youtube career grew well and mp! gaming cafe became an idea, it served him some help.

friend. lee jikyung. may 24 1992.
occupation: manager at mp! gaming cafe.
personality traits: organized, ambitious, caring. steadfast, witty.
faceclaim: lee sungkyung.

"you won't believe what minjin did- let me pull up a picture. he's so stupid."

minjin's friend since elementary school and hanyeon's childhood crush. at this point, jikyung's been in hanyeon's life so much that she can be basically seen as her older sister. hanyeon had quite the secret infatuation over the older girl due to how hanyeon thought how cool and pretty she was. she's outgrown it, but she's quite attached to jikyung even after years of trailing behind her as a kid.

the way jikyung acts towards hanyeon and minjin has a stark contrast. while jikyung is brutal towards minjin, she flips a switch with hanyeon and dotes on her like she's her own sibling. hanyeon easily approaches her and can be found hanging onto jikyung's arm for several minutes. they both bond over minjin's stupidity and their experiences babysitting him, often bringing up embarrassing or annoying moments he's went through.

MINI trivia
- cannot handle the horror genre well. she will clutch onto someone the whole time. good luck trying to pull her hands away from her eyes.
- worked two jobs before mp! gaming cafe. one at starbucks during high school and one at 3 concept eyes during university. jikyung, therefore, is highly practiced in becoming blasé when dealing with difficult customers.
- while extremely capable, jikyung's mind tends to go on autopilot while doing certain tasks. ".. did i already make those drinks?"
- is into the more casual kind of video games. she grew up playing kirby, nintendogs, animal crossing, and a few more. currently, jikyung is obsessing over mystic messenger and is about to finish all of the common routes (last one being yoosung) to move on to start the deep story routes.
- although seen as a sister figure in the cafe, she also holds the title of mom friend. or simply just mom. jikyung's got the crucial life skills in the bag (in minjin's words, "the adultiest adult to ever adult."). she can cook, clean, bake, and do all other sorts of household chores. looking for something and can't find it? tell jikyung and it's like the thing just magically showed itself to her. she can also sew like hella.
- and it's no wonder why she can. jikyung graduated with a degree in fashion design at ewha womans university. she wants to be a fashion designer, but she's put that to the side for the meantime to experience life a little more. besides, she likes working at the cafe.

close friend. im chohee. september 01 2000
occupation: third year student at chungdam high school.
personality traits: generous, knowledgable, lively, competitive, scatterbrained.
faceclaim: kim saeron.

"girl, hold up! come here, a trailer just released for resident evil!"

hanyeon's long standing friendship. chohee basically adopted her into her own friend group when they found out they both liked video games back when they were twelve years old. since then, they've been pretty inseparable. chohee commonly associates herself as a nerd, picking up video game after video game and breezing through their wiki articles.

while they're both going strong and talk about anything and everything, chohee notices that hanyeon really has nothing to do but video games. chohee has her own thing, she's into animation and concept design. but she misses when hanyeon used to just step up and throw herself out there and freely sing. chohee's seen her back then. there was a passion that burned bright, a passion that's now been dampened. chohee doesn't know how to make her way around it, only getting herself to drop hints that hanyeon should be, well- out there.

acquaintances. cho sion, april 13 1991. kang hyun, october 29 1992. baek yoonju, july 07 1994. son gaho, january 11 1995.
occupation: managers at mp! gaming cafe.
personality traits:
sion; loyal, social, nosy, adventurous, dictatorial.
hyun: cheeky, energetic, communicative, carefree, rebellious.
yoonju: ditzy, humourous, patient, soft-spoken, blunt.
gaho: courteous, passive, clever, forgiving, quiet.
faceclaim(s): to be decided.

due to hanyeon's nature to leave people be and mind her own business, she isn't very close with the other managers yet. of course, she does as they ask whenever helping out, but that's about it. although sion works at the front most of the time, hanyeon just tends to listen to her talk as she tends to be at a loss of how to contribute to the arbitrary conversation at hand. hyun is usually stationed at the kitchen, so she's had minimum interaction with him. both yoonju and gaho just breeze by and do their part of the work, so not a lot of interaction is needed with them either.

but, well, if hanyeon's officially going to work in the cafe, that'll obviously have to change. cue minjin dragging her to co-worker outings.

"hello, hanyeon! i'm jikyung, one of the managers at mp! gaming cafe. tell me a little about yourself!"

Hanyeon smiles questioningly, "You know who I am." When she sees that Jikyung doesn't budge, she sighs. "I'm Hwang Hanyeon, age seventeen. I'm a third year student at Chungdam High School. Thank you for taking your time to interview me." She almost deadpanned the whole introduction.

"what made you apply for a job here? any experience?"

"You told me to-" Hanyeon wheezed out as she suppressed a laugh. She slaps a hand down the table and stares into Jikyung's soul, "And oh, boy, do I sure have experience!" Months being bribed to help out on orders and drinks better count- "You've seen me suffer."

"know how to play any of the games here? we do tend to teach and facilitate some games!"

Hanyeon sheepishly scrunches her nose in response, chuckling a bit, "Not a lot, honestly." She'd spent her time behind the counters rather than beyond. She tilts her head, "Like, what's here? Cards Against Humanity? Jenga? I can do that, but God, there are more tabletop games here than I can list colours."

"any events you want to suggest for the cafe? WE'RE OPEN TO IDEAS!"

"I know it's not coming up soon, but can we have a horror game night for Halloween? Please? It's gonna be so fun to see how people react! We can bring in Outlast, Until Dawn, and-" Hanyeon notices Jikyung's exasperated smile. Hanyeon pouts, "Come on, I bet other people would love it! Not my fault you're a weenie."

you have reached the end!

Agreed. You killed Connor. Your point is invalid.
