18 - 12/10
District 10
liu renyu / su ruiqi
165 cm / 47 kg

Personality

positive : smart, resourceful, compassionate, cheerful, amicable
neutral : too trusting, too selfless, cute, polite,  pure
negative : sensitive, soft, naive, stubborn, somewhat broken

junhao flinches, his face pained when his younger sister appears on the screen, and he immediately feels his friends shooting worried glances in his direction.  they all knew too well how affected their entire family had been when his three older siblings had been chosen to take part in the games just years after one another,  two even part of the same game, and now that the baby of the family, just turned 18 not long ago, was selected, they knew he could break at any moment.

the boy draws in a shaky breath and waves off the concerned looks his friends had been sending him, an obviously fake smile on his face. he'd never been as good at hiding his fears as his sister had been, and when he sees his sister up there on the screen, the realisation hits him harder than ever.

renyu's cheerfulness seemed to radiate off the screen, her bubbly, pure, almost childlike aura emphasized even more now that she'd been all dolled up by stylists. her trademark bright smile is there on her face, and it's impossible not to notice the look of absolute wonder in her eyes as she steps onto the stage, with a bounce in her step. junhao knows she's nervous, he knows she's practically given up now at this point ( she'd already started to give up when we lost our siblings, he thinks to himself. he'd woken up to his sister's muffled cries way too many times when she'd thought everyone else was asleep, and he knows she's trying to act strong for their parents. for him. for her friends. ) but she's still smiling as if nothing bothered her.

"she's definitely going to be a fan-favorite," one of his friends pipes up when a series of fond smiles flash across the screen. he wasn't wrong. the rumors about the family curse was enough to get people talking about her, and with her cheerful disposition, ever-polite personality and childish energy, she was sure to be easily liked by the people in the capital. she was young as well, and now junhao could see that she'd probably been told to exaggerate that a bit to gain sponsors as she giggles in response to one of the questions she'd been asked. she doesn't deserve to be part of the games, he thinks to himself, and he's sure that's something the other people watching her are thinking.

her plan was obvious.

even though she was a lot more intelligent than she let on, and quite practical when it came to solving problems, her knowledge was limited only to survival skills. renyu was soft. the girl hated hurting anything, and even back here in district 10, his sister would always avoid the district slaughterhouse, saying that she didn't want to have anything to do with a place where the animals she'd grown up with would be killed. and now that she was a part of the games, a whole event based on the idea of killing, junhao wasn't sure how she was even going to make it past the first day. she needed to pull more sponsors than anyone else if she was going to survive, but that wouldn't be enough for her to make it far. she would need to team up as well, but that wouldn't be hard either, for the exact same reason why it wouldn't be hard for her to get sponsors. she's just too lovable.

teaming up would be the best strategy, junhao thinks to himself as he continues to watch her interview. but teaming up could also be the end of her.

renyu was trusting, perhaps too trusting sometimes, and she always acted in the best interests of other people. she was gullible, easily taken advantage of, and she would help anyone in a heartbeat if they'd asked nicely. junhao was sure the other tributes would realise that soon enough, and he was scared to death that renyu would trust the wrong person, that she would sacrifice so much for someone that would ultimately kill her in the end. she's always been one to be far too loyal to people that don't deserve her loyalty, and he knows that betrayal will make her give up faster than any sort of threat.

"she'll be fine, okay?" his best friend speaks up from beside him. "she wouldn't want you to worry. besides, she's a stubborn girl. she won't let herself get killed off too easily." that's only because she doesn't want to see the people that care about her being sad, he reminds himself. she's always thinking of other people, even when she's so close to breaking. she's always making sure people don't worry about her. she's always hiding her own feelings, always fighting because she doesn't want the people she loves to be worried about her.

another of his friends hums in agreement. "she's going to be okay. she has to be."

and even though junhao knows that renyu won't win, he lets himself be comforted slightly by his friends, watching as his sister breaks out into another bubbly laugh, knowing it'll be one of the last times he'll see her like this, even if it's just pretend.

Appearance — district 10 is one of the most impoverished areas of east asia, so naturally she wouldn't have the same access to beautiful material or bright colors like many of the other tributes would be used to. she normally wears a simple beige dress ( slightly too small for her but she can't afford a new one when she can barely feed herself ) and she often goes barefoot because again, she can't afford shoes that are her size.

Background

renyu was born and raised in the outskirts of district 10, the youngest daughter in a family of seven. she'd grown up in one of the poorer regions of district 10, and with such a big family she often didn't have enough to eat, but she didn't really mind. her life was simple. she went to school just like all the other people her age, helped out at her parents' farm whenever she had time, traded some of the livestock for food when they were running low on supplies, but that was it. simple as that. her life was stable. calm. she was sure nothing bad would happen to her family.

that was until her oldest brother was picked to be part of the games. junze was only 18 when he was selected, and when he never came back, her parents fell into a depression so bad that it affected their work, and so they were recommended to stop working for a while. renyu and her siblings refused to let their brother's death bring them down, and they worked harder than ever to make up for their parents. it slowly got better after a couple of years, and her parents even managed to get back on their feet. but then three years later, her siblings were selected again. this time, two of them.

it was worse for her parents this time round, losing both the twins at once, and again renyu found herself having to work harder than ever to support her family. it was difficult, but for the people she cared about, she could do anything. when her parents didn't recover this time round, she grew closer than ever to her one remaining sibling, the only other person who wasn't reduced to a shell of their former selves after everything had happened. they only had each other to rely on, and they were determined not to lose another member of their family ever again.

but fate was cruel, and renyu's name was picked out of the ballot this year.

Trivia
- she's very good with animals. she'd grown up surrounded by them, and so she has some sort of natural connection with them. she's not entirely sure what animals will appear in the arena or whether her ability also applies to animals that aren't bred for livestock, but she knows it might be somewhat useful.
- she's used to the feeling of starvation, and working on an empty stomach, so she'll probably last longer without food than the other tributes.
- renyu is afraid of thunder, losing the people she cares about and the games in general.
- because of what happened with her siblings, the 'liu family curse' is something that almost everyone in district 10 has heard of. her selection only solidifies the possibility of there actually being a curse in her family.
- she still has nightmares about her siblings' deaths, and often she wakes up having a full blown panic attack in the middle of the night because the dreams were so real. she tries to hide it though, because she doesn't want to be a burden to anyone.
- she knows her edible plants well ( she's poor and she knows it's against the rules to go past district borders, but she had been desperate at one point for just something to eat. since then, she had trained herself to recognize edible plants )
- she knows how to use a knife, but she absolutely refuses to hurt anyone, and that definitely is her biggest disadvantage in the games. even if she's on the verge of getting killed, she will refuse to retaliate.
- her brother had given her a bracelet  [x] to bring to the games so that she could always be reminded of her family.

liu junhao ( 劉俊昊 ) / older brother / 10 / fc : cai xukun / junhao is the only sibling she has left, and he's the person who kept renyu from losing her mind like her parents did when her other siblings had been picked for the games. junhao is the biggest reason why renyu even tries to survive during the games, because she knows how much it's killing him to lose one more sibling. she needs to win for her brother and for the other siblings that had died before her.

amber liu / mentor / 8 / renyu get along quite well with her mentor considering they didn't have much time to get to know each other before the games. at first she found it quite hard to open up to amber with how nervous she was, but she quickly came to realize that amber was really good at getting people to feel comfortable around her. amber treats her more like a younger sister than a mentee ( it's funny how they share the same surname as well. maybe that's part of the reason why the woman likes her so much? ) and it's clear that even though amber knows renyu doesn't have a chance, she at least wanted the last moments of her life to be sufferable.

lee sunmi / stylist / 7 / renyu isn't as close to her stylist as she is to her mentor, but that's probably just because they don't spend as much time around each other. sunmi is gentle and kind, and it didn't take much for renyu to decide that she likes the woman.

Hwang hyunjin
hyun, hyun-ah, the prince
19 - 03/20
District 1
hwang hyunjin / heo hyunjoon ( hwall )
179 cm / 65 kg

Personality

it's a common misconception that hwang hyunjin is quiet or scary or really really spoilt because he's from district 1. sure, he looks like he could be quite intimidating at first glance, especially when he isn't smiling, but he's actually one of the nicest and sweetest people you'll ever get to meet ( although renyu is probably being a bit too biased when she says that ). he's QUITE PLAYFUL AS WELL, and likes to use his cold looks to scare off some of the other trainees from time to time, BUT OF COURSE BEING IN THE GAMES HAS dialed down his playfulness by quite a lot compared to how he had been back in his district.

despite all that, though, years of training has taught him to never truly open up to anyone. anyone could betray him, anyone could kill him at any moment, and he just wasn't prepared to get attached to people if they were going to have to kill each other in the end. he knows what he wants, and he will try harder than ever to survive, even if it means turning his back against his allies when they're only down to a couple of tributes left.

Appearance — he's used to wearing expensive suits or other clothing similar to that, not nearly as expensive as what you get in the capital, but close enough to what you can get there. he'd grown up quite rich, so he can afford new clothes all the time.

Background

hyunjin had been trained all his life to take part in the games. when he was old enough to start preparing for the games, he'd been sent to the training centers almost immediately. he was taught how to fight, how to survive, how to kill, and he was trained to be the best of the best so that he could volunteer the year he was eligible and he could win the games. that had been the plan, at least. the year he turned 18, he'd gotten injured ( sprained his ankle bad enough that he could only hobble for a couple of days ) , and he wasn't allowed to volunteer, his mentors knowing that he wouldn't do as well with his injury. he was absolutely devastated when he'd been told that he couldn't take part in the games, but he knew that if he worked hard enough, he still had the chance to redeem himself. this year, hyunjin had been given the chance to take part in the games again, and of course, he volunteered. it was what he'd been preparing for all his life, after all. he wasn't going to let all those years go to waste.

Trivia
- also one of the younger tributes in the games this year.
- he'd had some training when it comes to combat before ( career tributes often had more training than others ), and he's also quite quick on his feet, proving to be an advantage for him when he's in the games.
- hyunjin volunteered for the games.
- he's probably one of the tributes that is the most likely to get sponsors, mostly because of his face but also he plays up a kind of serene, princely attitude when he knows the cameras are on him.
- he's scared of failure, bees and not being able to prove himself.
- his ankle still hurts sometimes when he strains it too much, but it's not that painful.
- his weapon of choice would probably be some sort of dagger. he knows how to use it well and he's confident in his abilities of getting other people to trust him enough so that he could get close and kill them.

Relationships

kim sunggyu / mentor / 9 / hyunjin has been training with sunggyu and a couple of other mentors ever since he could remember, so he finds it quite comforting to have someone familiar coaching him for the games. sunggyu has high expectations for hyunjin, and he's determined not to let his mentor down.

ok taecyeon / stylist / 6 / he never really quite hit it off with his stylist but maybe that's just because he hasn't spent as much time around taecyeon than he had around sunggyu. he doesn't mind taecyeon, though, but their relationship is more professional than anything else.

Love Story

hyunjin and renyu were two people on pretty much opposite ends of the spectrum. one was a career tribute, born and raised to take part in the games, and the other was a weakling who'd never once killed another. one was potentially the winner of the next games. the audience were sure the other would not make it past the first day. but the audience would ship literally anyone over the smallest of things, and when the two were caught smiling at each other on camera and turning away shyly when they realized the cameras had been on them ( both of them think it's complete bull. they had both been smiling at all the other tributes to hopefully get on their good sides, and the cameras had caught them just as they made eye contact. it could've been anyone else, it just happened to be the two of them. ) the capital had gone insane over how well the two would look if they ended up together at some point during the games.

of course, when their mentors first heard of the rumors, they had jumped on the idea immediately, thinking it would be a good story to help both of them earn more sponsors. the two of them really had no choice in the matter, so they followed the instructions they had been given by their mentors, sneaking small glances whenever the other wasn't looking ( completely scripted, but the audience didn't need to know that ), giving shy compliments from time to time or looking out for each other in ways they hoped would seem subtle to the audience watching them on tv.

that's why nobody was surprised when hyunjin went out of his way to protect renyu during the bloodbath, but it did surprise some to see that he decided to offer to partner up right afterwards, saying that it would be safer for her if she teamed up with someone who had experience fighting. then again, everyone had secretly hoped this would happen, they just didn't expect it to happen this early on in the games.

during the time they spent together, they found themselves seeing each other as more than just collaborators to earn sponsors. they started to depend on each other, renyu helping to treat hyunjin's wounds whenever he came back from a particularly brutal confrontation with another tribute and hyunjin calming her down whenever she woke up crying because of the nightmares that she had about her siblings. their relationship was supposed to be an act, but as time went on, it became something more real, but neither of them said anything in fears that they were the only one feeling that way, and the other one was just using them to survive in the games.

Ending — it would be the saddest thing if one of them gets a near fatal injury and when it becomes apparent there's no hope left for them, they beg the other to put them out of their pain. the other person doesn't want to see them suffer but they're still holding on to the false hope that they'll be able to make it together, but though very reluctantly, they eventually get persuaded to do it. right before they kill the other one, they confess to each other, knowing that this would be the last chance for their true feelings to be heard.

habrxmania / rin / 9

Password — i think i kind of mentioned how i want one of them to die during the ending part and honestly i don't mind who dies first but i'm pretty sure the other one won't survive for long after that. if hyunjin get injured and renyu had to put him out of his suffering i think renyu would probably just give up in the games and let herself be killed by the next tribute who finds her, but if renyu is the one who dies first i kind of see hyunjin dying trying to get revenge on her behalf.

Last comments — okay so the personality bit might be a bit hard to understand so i can rewrite it if you ask me to?  anyway aside from that is it weird that i actually don't want renyu to win? like she's really mentally weak and even if she wins i don't think she's going to be able to live with herself so maybe it'll be easier for her if she just dies at the end haha. but i also want them to last long enough in the games for them to figure out their feelings for each other??? idk. i hope you like them and i hope their relationship isn't too cliche??? i feel like it's kinda cliche but who knows.

Scene suggestions
- hyunjin finding out about renyu's nightmares
- if the reaping is going to be shown please please please write the most heart-wrenching goodbye between renyu and her brother
- both of them opening up about their backstories??
- tba when i have more creativity oml
