( elaboration ) : Oh My God Yes : Erika has a good imagination and comes up with good ideas, she usually comes up with symbolic meanings for stuff too, she seems to find a way to make up a story or meaning behind everything. When doing something she enjoys, she puts 100% effort into it and never slacks, even sacrificing herself to get the results she wants or expected of her rather than producing sloppy work at her own convenience. Chaos doesn't faze her and she always carries herself calmly, and won't be the kind to get excited over small things or scream and yell when she's angry. She always stands by her loved ones and prioritises them over anything else. When people make her upset, she will try to make her unhappiness known in a way that does not cause unhappiness to the other party.

No Oh Oh : Erika is easily upset by criticism but only shares her worries with a few trusted people. When she feels bad, she needs a lot of assurance from her loved ones that what haters say or what she believes is not true, and this is something they find tiring to deal with. I Don't Know, I Don't Know : Erika is a bit hesitant in getting to know people and it takes time for her to open up to them. She dislikes wasting time especially when she feels that the time wasted could have been spent doing more productive or meaningful things. She also hates waiting for long periods of time, whether it's 5 minutes or 5 hours, especially when she feels the waiting time was unproductive or meaningless, and waiting for confirmation for long periods of time makes her panicky. She does love her loved ones but doesn't know how to tell them and doesn't like being ostentatious in showing love and appreciation, but tries to show so through small gestures or just saying things like "I love my friends", and if she doesn't care for certain people at all, she doesn't bother faking concern for them.

 

( background ) : Erika was born in 1993 to a pair of doctors. Having high expectations for her to be better than other children, her parents sent her for ballet classes since the age of 4 and cram school in addition to her normal classes since the age of 7. Erika's mother contracted the SARS virus and passed away when Erika was 10 years old. Erika's father wanted her to follow in his and her mother's footsteps and become a doctor, but Erika had other plans. She didn't like school as she was unable to assimilate with other students due to her priveleged background, but on the other hand, she loved ballet. After passing her Grade 8 ballet exam at the age of 14, she wanted to go on to vocational ballet training, but her father disapproved. She was unhappy, but she was too young to do anything about it, and secretly practised ballet in the school dance studio during her meal breaks.

When Erika turned 19, she passed her college entrance exam with flying colours and managed to secure a place in Kyoto University's faculty of medicine, pleasing her father. However, as the days passed, Erika became increasingly dissatisfied. Dance was her only form of relief, but even that didn't do enough to ease her unhappiness. Wanting to fit in with the other students, Erika started attending college parties and going to clubs on weekends. That's how she ended up in bed with a stranger one night and becoming pregnant. At the same time, her grades had slipped so much that she was expelled from her course. She couldn't bear to have an abortion but she was too ashamed to go home to her father, but she knew she needed prenatal care if she wanted to keep the baby.

Luckily, she had an abundance of money that her father had saved for her since young. It was supposed to be for her university tuition, but if she didn't do something with it, the bank would freeze her account and she would possibly not be able to get the money back. After doing some research, she moved to the sunny island called Singapore, into a town where several other Japanese people lived. Adjusting to a country where she didn't speak the language was of course, hard, and Erika struggled learning English. Because of her weak English at first, it was hard for Erika to find jobs and communicate with her gynaecologist, and she had to ask a friend to accompany her as her translator. She later got a job teaching conversational Japanese at a community centre.

When Erika was 8 months pregnant, her baby's heartbeat suddenly slowed and she had to undergo an emergency C-section. Because she was unmarried, she didn't qualify for government benefits for mothers, and was only able to take one month off to recover compared to other mothers' three months before she went to work as a part time data entry clerk in an arts college (NAFA). However, that's how she rediscovered her love for dance, and decided to take their Diploma In Dance so she could work as a ballet coach. She also started volunteering for a political party in 2015.

In 2017, Erika discovered the girl group Loona after accidentally watching Yves' New MV on Youtube. She didn't understand Korean at that time but after googling for the lyrics she found they related to her wanting to have a "new" life away from her father. As she watched more Loona MVs, she started to like Loona not only for their catchy music but also their lyrics which encouraged others to love themselves and their MVs which portrayed non-ualised same- relationships between girls, both of which were not common in Japan and Singapore. Her upbringing had taught her to comform to others' expectations, but she now knew that living for herself wasn't a sin either. Because she was so inspired by Loona, she decided to go to Korea to try auditioning for Blockberry Creative, and she couldn't believe her luck when she was accepted as a trainee. She also couldn't believe one of her best friends was willing to move to Korea with her, even though she herself didn't understand a word of Korean.

Like : Erika looks up to Kevryn as she seems to always portray the best version of herself and face challenges without crumbling, something difficult for Erika to do. Kevryn not only believes in herself strongly most of the time but believes in Erika too, and always gives Erika the encouragement she needs. Kevryn also tries her best to maintain a positive outlook on life and happy nature in order to make her loved ones happy. ( love story ) : Erika got to know Kevryn from the 2015 General Election campaign. Impressed that Kevryn spoke up for single mothers' rights, Erika started volunteering with the NSP after the elections. Kevryn herself was a single mother, and this helped them to get closer. Kevryn broke up with her boyfriend in 2016, and during this time, Erika tried her best to spend time with her everyday. It wasn't a matter of time before they fell in love, but both were too shy to confess, furthermore the stigma against same- relationships in Singapore was strong. However, Erika discovered Kevryn trying to find a new boyfriend on Tinder and after a vehement quarrel, confessed that she liked Kevryn. To her surprise, Kevryn confessed that she had been on Tinder because she thought Erika wouldn't like her back.

The two dated happily for three years, until Erika decided to move to Korea to train. Kevryn wanted to stay in Singapore for her modelling work and campaigning, and due to Erika's busy training schedule and restrictions on cellphone usage, she couldn't spend much time to talk to Kevryn via social media. Furthermore, as a trainee and later a member of Spectrum, it would cause chaos if it was revealed that Erika was in a relationship, what more a same- one. It was a painful decision but Erika decided to break up with Kevryn some time after Spectrum's debut, but they promised each other if they eventually were both still single once Erika's idol career had stabilised.

( Introduce yourself to the viewers! ) : Hello everyone, my name is Sato Erika, I'm 25 this year and I'm from Blockberry Creative, and I have one daughter.

( HOW DID YOU FIND OUT ABOUT SPECTRUM AND WHY DID YOU JOIN THE group?  ) : I found out about spectrum when I overheard some of my coworkers and fellow trainees talking about it, I decided to give it a try as I think this will be a great chance to see if being an idol is the right path for me.

( DO YOU HAVE PREVIOUS PERFORMING EXPERIENCES, SUCH AS BEING A MEMBER OF A PAST GIRL GROUP, solo performance, mv cameos, eTC?  ) : I was trained in ballet growing up and I was a ballet coach, but I've never performed before.

( why should cj e&m entertainment choose you? what makes you different from other trainees we've interviewed?) : I would like to be a part of Spectrum as I would like to experience what it's like to be in a group with many members, and I believe there are things I can learn such as how to work in a team and resolve conflicts, and I think this will be useful if I debut in a group in the future. What I feel makes me stand out is my experience in ballet, as from what I see K-pop dances are usually hiphop inspired.

( how do you feel about being placed in a group of girls from other companies? ) : I think it will be a really interesting experience, we can share what we learn from our respective companies and each and every one of us will have something different to bring to the table which will make us shine as a group.

 Erika thought it would be easy for her due to her dance background, but she found out that K-pop dance was totally different, and it was a little difficult for her to get used to it. When Erika was chosen to be a member of Spectrum, she decided to use it as a chance to test the waters, and if she didn't enjoy being an idol, she'd leave BBC and go back to Singapore.
